something really neat about this series is that all 5 siblings get an episode. Episode 1 was Steve's, Episode 2 is Shirley, Episode 3 is Theo, Episode 4 is Luke and then Episode 5 is Nellie. giving each sibling a back story for the first 5 episodes working from oldest to youngest. Perfectly setting up them all up for the rest of the series and giving us everyones backstories

Theo is one of the siblings, they show her in the beggining of the first episode, when Nellie is crying, she gets up but Steven tells her to go back to bed cause he got it. Also, Shirley is played by Elizabeth Reeser, Esme from Twilight, so on episode 2, which is her episode, they have a couple Twilight easter eggs. @@Okgrandpa Nah, Bly Manor best aspects it’s the relationships but the writing is not as good and real as in Midnight Mass and the cinematography of Midnight Mass is way better than Bly Manor, the acting in both shows are tied. There’s a reason Midnight Mass has slightly better reviews and it’s ranked by almost everyone as Flanagan best second show. On top of that Midnight Mass is an original screenplay written by Flanagan and not just an adaptation from the books like Hill House and Bly Manor so that takes even more credits. I predicted almost the whole plot of Bly Manor by episode 5 if anything I will give you that the pacing of Bly Manor is better than MM and I wouldn’t mind lowering MM to 7.5/10 but it’s definitely slightly better than Bly Manor.

It makes me sad seeing the kids and knowing how they'll grow up after that trauma. The show really makes you care about what's happening to them. Most haunted house stories focus on the haunting in the moment only. I like that this one is answering the question of "What happens after you've survived the haunting?" but from a family dynamic position. To me, the show gets even stronger as the epiosdes go on because the beginning laid solid groundwork for some impact.

This is my favorite show of all time, so here are some fun facts:
    - They actually built the house for this show. It's a real two storey structure with actual hallways and rooms.
    - The younger version of the father is played by Henry Thomas, who you may know as Elliott from E.T.
    - This was Victoria Pedretti's (older Nell) first big role and this catapulted her to stardom.
    - In the background of nearly every shot inside Hill House, there are "hidden ghosts" who are spirits trapped inside the house. If you raise your brightness and look closely, you'll see them. There's a video on youtube showing a bunch of the really popular ones, though I recommend watching this when you finish the show, as there are definite spoilers.
    - Theo is played by Kate Siegel, who is Mike Flanagan (the creator/director's) wife.
    - All of the Crain siblings represent different stages of grief, which will become much more apparent in later episodes. Steven is denial, Shirley is anger, Theo is bargaining, Luke is depression, and Nell is acceptance. When you finish the series, you'll see exactly how/why these work!

I love this show so much. Still my favourite Mike Flanagan show. The writing, the acting, the cinematography. Nells story is heartbreaking and some of the best storytelling I've seen. I haven't seen if anyone else mentioned it but Henry Thomas was Elliott from E.T. which I adore. ❤

Man, this was so much fun! Watching you piece things together, watching you forget about Theo - I binged so I don't judge (I didn't keep up with the number of kids! I just let them explain it to me) - your commentary, jokes, and general attitude: TOPPPPPP! I believe this is my first video of yours, and I'm hooked. Can't wait for more Hill House reactions!

Oh you are in for a real treat with this series. AMAZING
When my grandmother died I did her hair, my mom did her makeup and my sister did her fingernails. It was our closure and we knew how particular our grandmother was with her looks so we didnt want the funeral director to "mess" that up for our grandfather. Its not an easy thing to do if you are not "comfortable" with death or dead bodies...for sure.

Cracks me up how everyone forgets we see Theo right at the beginning of the show. A couple of things to keep in mind. There are no fast answers in this show, but every question you have will be answered by the end. It pays to pay close attention because so many things are connected and there are a lot of parallels in the timelines. I love this show so much.

One of my favourite things to do when rewatching this series was to go back and find all the ghosts hidden in the background. There are actually like dozens of ghost found in scenes that you wouldn’t notice unless you were looking which I found really cool. It kind of shows how they really were living with so many different ghosts. Some that were obvious and some just hidden in the background. Almost every scene in the house has a ghost hidden!

I always describe this show as an amazing family drama that can only be told through horror. That's the only reason why it classifies as a horror show for me.

  • @mycroft16
    @mycroft16 Рік тому +1

Oh they did such a good job with this. For a horror anything to be properly scary you have to care about the characters. You have to be invested in them in some way otherwise who cares when the bad stuff happens. And this show makes you care about them all very well. They are flawed. They have issues. Relatable issues. They're just trying to get through. So when things happen, it's scarier because you have a connection to them. This isn't a spoiler, but in shots of The House when they are kids and all, look in the backgrounds of shots. Down halls, in other rooms, behind stairs, etc... there are nearly ALWAYS ghosts lurking. Peering around corners. Standing in plain freaking view. When you notice them it gets way creepier. Because they are always present. Nearly every scene has one.
This show, for being primarily psychological and exploration of family trauma etc, does contain on of the all time greatest jump scares ever. And they managed to make it a legitimate part of the story, so it isn't just a scare for the sake of scaring. It legitimately comes out of left field. I'm not going to say anything about when or where.

It's about time you guys watched this, one of the best shows ever made. You have 8 more episodes of peeling back the onion layers. I have read thru a lot of the comments but here goes: This series is taken from the book The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson (1958). When I watched the first 2 episodes I was dubious about it but by episode 3 I was completely hooked. Characters, events, the house and even things mentioned in passing come directly from the book, like the opening lines of this episode. They took so many threads from the original book and rewove them into this masterpiece of storytelling. In the tree house Luke has his crayons in an ET lunchbox, a nod to Henry Thomas having been in the original movie. The mirroe Nell dances past is a prop from Oculus. Episode 2: Theo is reading The Lottery when seated outside, another book written by Shirley Jackson. (Character) Shirley's role in life is to cover up the truth, make things look like she wants them to which is the background story about the masks. She insists on doing Nell as her way of saying that she is sorry for sending Luke away and that when Nell called her she never called her back. The lights across Liv's face in the funeral home are the lights from the house when Nell went back to the house.
