This may be one of the best shows ever made. It is a master class in writing, directing and acting. Nothing is by chance, there are no throw away lines. Everything has intention and meaning. The way Mike Flanagan picks every shot and moment is meant to make you feel what he wants you to. Honestly it is 95% tension and suspense 5% horror. It is not that scary, but it is a masterpiece.
I agree wholeheartedly Midnight Mass is close to perfect, I absolutely love and adore everything about that show, it's been a few years and I still get giddy thinking about it.
So excited you are reacting to "The Haunting of Hill House", guys. Once finished these 10 episodes please react to the remaining Mike Flanagan series, "The Haunting of Bly Manor" ( 9 eps ), "Midnight Mass" ( 7 eps ), and "The Fall of the House of Usher" ( 8 eps ).
Good on Corey for spotting the face. There's tons of ghosts lurking in the background of shots all throughout the show, some more easily seen than others. The show is billed as a spooky, horror but it's really an amazing family drama that's wrapped up in a ghost story.
When the siblings woke up, the clocks show that they all woke up at exactly the same time. The clocks that read 3:03 were the siblings on the east coast, and the ones that read 12:03 were the siblings on the west coast.
Another thing I might add. In Hill House, if you look carefully, you can spot the ghosts. Sometimes they are obvious and sometimes they are hidden. And it's terrifying once you see them just staring. Also I love the back and forth transitions between the characters when they were young and the troubles they face as an adult.
Hi guys, be on the lookout for statues that change direction (in the mansion), and as Corey, who seems to be the most observant of you, saw the face, you'll see the moving statues ;-)
The opening narration, with "whatever walked there walked alone," is the opening to Shirley Jackson's original novel, and probably one of the most famous opening quotes in horror lit.
The dad in this movie is the boy from ET. Also child Nell is in the movie Megan. Child Luke is in WandaVision. Child Theo has been is sooo many shows too.
I didn't recognize young Luke was the same kid from WandaVision. Adult Luke was in the movie The Invisible Man (2020) and he played the Scarecrow in the cancelled TV series Emerald City (a show about The Wizard of OZ).
Oh, gods, where to begin... Theo's actress is Mike Flanagan's wife and she appears in Hush and tons of other Flanagan projects. Steve plays the second Daario Naharis (after the first one got recasted). The mother is Carla Gugino, who also plays in most of Flanagan's other projects (from a big role like Verna in Usher, to a very small role like the judge in the first episode of Midnight Mass). Shirley's actress plays Edward's adoptive mother in Twilight.
Glad yall are checking out the Mike Flanagan world in Haunting Of Hill House. Hope yall check out the rest of the world!!! It’s the suspense that make this show so terrifying.
My favorite show! So glad you’re watching. The scares are just a tiny fraction of what makes this show so great. Here’s a little bribe to keep Blake watching & I may even join Patreon. Next Mike Flanagan show to watch is Midnight Mass, or Haunting of Bly Manor. Probably Bly since Love Quinn is in it too 👻
Thank you!! ❤️ We'll definitely watch all of the Mike Flanagan shows if everyone wants us to... And based on all of the comments on this video, I think everyone does! 👻 -Corey
Also, just a bit of fun trivia. The mirror in the house when Nelly is dancing in the house is the mirror from another Mike Flanagan movie called Oculus. The mirror makes an appearance in anything he makes somewhere. I’m always looking for it.
Corey, three of the Crain children woke up at exactly 3:03 am well the other woke up at 12:03 am across the country ( which would be 3:03 am ) where they were living, meaning simply they all woke up at the moment of Nellie's death.
This is one of the most well written produced performed directed shows ever. So excited to watch with you guys, once you have the entire picture of all the episodes it’s just outstanding
Horror has never been a genre I enjoy, but this show is SO much more, it should have won a ton of Emmy’s but wasn’t even nominated bc, I believe, they don’t take horror seriously. It’s very deep.🖤
i’m so glad y’all are watching this show!! i think you’ll really enjoy how the story develops because it’s so much more than a horror/ghost show. it’s genuinely one of the most well written shows from the last couple of years. i wish i could watch it for the first time again :’)
After watching this masterpiece of a show multiple times, I'm just now realizing that Nell starts to see the Bent-Neck Lady again when Luke is sober for 90 days. It's a twin thing.
Been binge watching your guys’ channel and I have been loving every video 🥰 and I also notice that color coordination and loveee it. You guys are awesome, nice reaction
21:16 - FUNNY THING Blake, This was her FIRST professional acting performance, EVER. Her SECOND Acting Role was in The Haunting of Bly Manor 😂…. So, if she was “type cast” it was in whatever you saw her in.
Saw a reference to the show today and was like ah, it’s been awhile since I watched this, let’s find a new reaction. I think maybe this time I’ll be ok watching this. And then that first line hits and I’m already tearing up. Excited for another ride, happy to do it with you gents

Regardless of a poll, after this you really need to watch The other two show’s in the series, “Midnight Mass & The Haunting of Bly Manor”, different stories, but same actors and all three show’s are some of the best writing you’ll ever see.😊
Great reaction! I won’t pretend it’s not scary, this show terrified me the first time, but if Blake can continue, it’s so worth it, it’s so much more than a horror show. It’s a beautiful story about grief and pain and family. Not sure how far in advance you guys will be watching as you’re filming but in episode 6 there’s a series of 1 take shots that are insane. The show opens with I think like a 14 minute one take shot that is so impressively filmed.
I'm constantly surprised and pleased by the amount of people that haven't seen this fantastic show yet. Surprised because its so good and been out for a while and pleased because i keep getting to enjoy all these great reactions to this masterpiece. Enjoy!! You're in for a wild ride!!
The present day dad, played by Timothy Hutton, won an Oscar in 1981 for best supporting actor in the tragic family drama Ordinary People. He was only 19 and it was his first major film role.
Hi guys, I'm new here and this show is one of my favorites. When this show ends Blake will understand why some people say that this show is not scary, because it is something more, deeper, complex. Great reaction guys. Greetings from Chile.
This is an absolutely incredible show, the scares are brilliantly done and the story is beautiful! Excited to see these reactions! Also, the kida names are Steve, Shirley, Theo, Luke and Nell!
One of not only the best horror shows but best shows I’ve ever seen. The acting, story, character build, jump scares, depth. You’re in for a treat guys ❤
This show is an absolute masterpiece. The first episode is kinda a slow burn, hard to catch all the character names, but it really hits its stride by episode 3, and 5, 6, 8, and 10 are just utterly jaw-dropping. Can’t wait for you guys to take this journey! FYI, the first 5 episodes are centered around each of the 5 kids, in descending order of age (Steve, Shirley, Theo, Luke, then Nell), although you get a lot of info about the others along the way.
Awesome how you guys noticed the face hidden in the background. I think i remmeber there being around 30 hidden throughout the whole story in various places, which jjst afds another layer of fun to watching!
It's so cool that you guys are checking out this series. It's definitely worth checking out. I love Mike Flanagan's work. I just finished watching House of Usher last month and it was really AWESOME. I'd say Hill House and Midnight Mass are my 2 favorite miniseries of his, though, they're all so spectacular!
So glad you are doing this show! One of the best things I have seen on TV! 1) Whoever told you this show was not scary is lying to you. In fact, I venture to say each episode gets scarier. All of us who have seen it will be waiting for one episode in particular-sorry Blake you may pee your pants. 2) one thing that makes this show satisfying is that pretty much all questions end up being answered so hang on boys, 3) it is “inspired” by the book “The Haunting of Hill House” with some basics at least similar but a completely different story. There is a 1963 film version called “The Haunting” and a terrible 90’s remake. One of the cast members from the original film will show up in this show so that’s kinda cool. Enjoy!!! I am already looking forward to the future episodes.
Holy cow! Never have I ever clicked so fast! This is my favorite horror series of all time. It’s the best, really. I have been watching your content for weeks now. And I’m hooked. Aside from you guys reacting to my favorites like Scream Franchise, Final Destination and the GOT binging, I stayed too because of COJO. Lmao I am in love 😜😂 Anyway, more power to you guys. 😁
You guys! Holy shit I cannot believe you haven't seen this! But I'm also super super excited that we get to watch you react, especially so long after it was hyped up so much. We get fresh eyes. And personally I'll watch anybody react to Mike Flanagan, his stuff is just that good. So excited for this.
This show is phenominal, so glad you're giving it a watch. It's probablyone of my favorites of all time, its so haunting in its atmosphere and its message. If you want, you guys can watch another one by Flanagin called The Haunting if Bly Manor.
This remarkable show can be considered part of an anthology along with "The Haunting of Bly Manor" as well as "The Fall of the House of Usher", all worthy of your attention. Keep up the good work fellas you're much appreciated.
Hiding in plain sight. The first time you see one, it’s wonderfully terrifying.❤ ETA: And then every shadow or movement in the background, you think it’s a ghost. And on this show, it probably is lol Happy hunting!
Stay with us Blake! 😂 there’s jump scares here and there but you’ll be so invested in the family drama def by the end of ep 3 so it’ll make the scares worth it. Thanks for reacting to this guys, it’s one of my fave shows 🫶🏻
So glad you're on the "Hill House" train. WOOT WOOT!! Blake, if you don't watch this show, I'll never speak to you again!! LMAO Funny as we don't speak at all...I'm just sayin'...YOU GOTTA WATCH. You'll kick yourself if you don't watch this masterpiece. No joke, it's AMAZING.
So excited to see you guys watching this series! Mike Flanagan has an amazing mind! Please check out the other shows: Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, & the most recent Fall of House of Usher! I’m sure someone else already said this but the siblings represent the 5 stages of grief! Steve is denial, Shirley is anger, Theo is bargaining, Luke is depression, & nell is acceptance!
The best ghost story ever put to film. After this, you need to watch Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass and Haunting of ably Manor. All by Flannigan. All amazing!
GUYS…. FUN FACT: In 1999 a movie (remake) was made, also based on Shirley Jackson’s same book The Haunting Of Hill House. The role of Nell aka Eleanor was played by Lili Taylor… who also played Carolyn Perron, the mom in the first Conjuring movie!
Which reminds me, I don't know if you guys watch older movies, but the first version of THE HAUNTING (1963, Robert Wise) -- a reasonably faithful version of Shirley Jackson's novel -- is definitely worth checking out!
Well the first time I watched the series, that Neil ghost scene was super scary but now after rewatching it again, the scary image just makes me tear up and so sad about what happened to Neil. The show is scary but not its main focus, it's all about family and love. Try watching until the end you know what i mean.
The first episode is probably the scariest in a "traditional" sense. Mike Flanagan probably put a few jump scares and more cliche things to draw in the typical horror crowd, but then it's the family drama that sucks you in the rest of the episodes. There are still a few jump scares ahead, but not as many per episode as on this one. There's one scene in particular that is absolute GOLD for reactions 🙊
In case you haven't found out, it's the same creator too, and he has 3 other shows with significant tonal and casting overlaps too, Haunting of Bly Manor, Mignight Mass, and The Midnight Club
One of my favorite shows of all time! 👻 Excited to watch your reactions to Hill House and the other Mike Flanagan shows. I predict Blake covering his eyes alot in these reactions. 🙈😂
For some reason I really appreciated Cojo calling the ladies a.holes instead of the b-word 👍 The series is based on a 1959 gothic novel of the same name btw. I know lots of people have already commented you should watch the other Flanagan series, so I'm here to recommend the movie adaptation of Stephen King's "Gerald's Game", which is also directed by Flanagan and involves the same actors as Hill House.
5:02 OMG, Igli! All my rewatches and I never noticed that the statue is missing in that shot!! You are not crazy, there was a statue. Makes since... the statues are a reference to the Weeping Angels on Doctor Who... you'll see later.
You glorious bastards what a great choice. One of my favourite shows for years, and my favourite "horror" anything. Nothing horror has ever come close to this when it comes to caring about the characters and getting genuinely emotional
this series is such a great watch! the story, dialogue, editing are all just fantastic. the layers the keep adding with every episode just builds and builds until thew final 2 eps and i just loved the journey and the ending. cant wait to see yalls reaction to it all!
I subscribed to watch you go through this mindblowing journey. Mindblowing when it comes to acting, writing, cinematography, sounddesign, transitions ... You guys are in for a ride! I can't wait. I have watched so many reactions to this, It doesn't get boring and I really like your thoughts on the episode. I'm always happy when UA-camrs discover this series and react to it ♥ This show just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for sharing your reactions with us!
GUYS… When you’re done with this series, you really should consider: BATES MOTEL It’s absolute GENIUS… Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore both are FANTASTIC (Honestly, Freddie Highmore as young Norman Bates should win EVERY award in existence!) It’s surprisingly fast paced, and obviously FULL OF PSYCHOTIC SURPRISES.🤯
I think maybe someone would say this show isn't scary because it's not scary to scare you, it's scary to tell a story, and once you understand what that story is, the scary makes sense.
I'm so excited to see you guys reacting to this show. HoHH has an amazing story line so in order to understand what's going on, you need to pay close attention to conversations. To Blake, I promise, this show is much lighter on jump scares than most shows of this genre, so I hope you don't get scared off watching it cuz you're an integral part of the Raggedy crew and it wouldn't be the same without you. I can't wait to see how you all progress through this show. It's so worth the watch! Oh, and the next show in the series, The Haunting of Bly Manor, stars Victoria Pedretti along with several other members of the Hill House cast.

I have been watching your content for weeks now. And I’m hooked. Aside from you guys reacting to my favorites like Scream Franchise, Final Destination and the GOT binging, I stayed too because of COJO. Lmao I am in love 😜😂
Anyway, more power to you guys. 😁
Mike Flanagan hides ghosts throughout the series. It's like the creepiest game of where's Waldo finding all the background ghosts.
You guys! Holy shit I cannot believe you haven't seen this! But I'm also super super excited that we get to watch you react, especially so long after it was hyped up so much. We get fresh eyes. And personally I'll watch anybody react to Mike Flanagan, his stuff is just that good. So excited for this.
This series is hands down amazing.
Mike Flanagan knows how to create an atmosphere.
I also suggest his movies. Gerald's Game is a good one.
The first time you see one, it’s wonderfully terrifying.❤
ETA: And then every shadow or movement in the background, you think it’s a ghost. And on this show, it probably is lol Happy hunting!
Stay with us Blake! 😂 there’s jump scares here and there but you’ll be so invested in the family drama def by the end of ep 3 so it’ll make the scares worth it. Thanks for reacting to this guys, it’s one of my fave shows 🫶🏻
every couple months this show gets resurrected on the reaction side of youtube and i eat it all up every time
Same.
Running over to Patreon for this! 😱
Thank you for making the sacrifice for us Blake 🙏🏻😂 you’ll be glad you made it thru by the end!
The best ghost story ever put to film. After this, you need to watch Fall of the House of Usher, Midnight Mass and Haunting of ably Manor. All by Flannigan. All amazing!
Don't give up on it, Blake! It's such a good show and the story is so great.
GUYS….
FUN FACT:
In 1999 a movie (remake) was made, also based on Shirley Jackson’s same book The Haunting Of Hill House.
@@mckeldin1961 AGREED!!
I only have one statement to make. Blake is going to love this 😂😂😂
Well the first time I watched the series, that Neil ghost scene was super scary but now after rewatching it again, the scary image just makes me tear up and so sad about what happened to Neil. The show is scary but not its main focus, it's all about family and love. Try watching until the end you know what i mean.
Yeeeeees, I am so excited for you to dive into the world of Mike Flanagan! This series in particular is an absolute masterclass in writing.
3 o’clock is also the start of the witching hour. 3am-4am is the time when they say the vail to our world and the paranormal world is thinnest.
I never realized these are the same actors from "Fall of House of Usher." You should definitely watch that next!
In case you haven't found out, it's the same creator too, and he has 3 other shows with significant tonal and casting overlaps too, Haunting of Bly Manor, Mignight Mass, and The Midnight Club
The younger version of the father is played by Henry Thomas, the little boy from ET.
Henry also played a teenaged Norman Bates in the 1990 tv film "Psycho IV: The Beginning".
Did y'all see the Easter Egg for E.T.? In the tree house when Luke was coloring...next to Luke on the floor is an E.T. lunch box.
One of my favorite shows of all time! 👻
Excited to watch your reactions to Hill House and the other Mike Flanagan shows.
I predict Blake covering his eyes alot in these reactions. 🙈😂
You guys really keep coming out with the hitters. Loving all the series you guys are reacting too.
This show is Notorious for so many hidden ghosts -- it's actually quite fun and you can start a drinking game 😅
Omg yall r doing Hill House?!!!! Hells yea! I'm ready. Blake, I send you love and light 😂
For some reason I really appreciated Cojo calling the ladies a.holes instead of the b-word 👍
The series is based on a 1959 gothic novel of the same name btw.
I've seen this show several times and I'm always finding something new.
Actually it’s just because it’s looking down the hallway the other way. The statues didn’t disappear just a convincing camera switch
*Easily* one of the 3 best limited series I have ever seen. This show was absolutely phenomenal.
Just found yalls channel and see yall are doing this series, so excited! Hope you guys enjoy it, its fantastic
Glad you found us!
GUYS…
When you’re done with this series, you really should consider:
BATES MOTEL
It’s absolute GENIUS… Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore both are FANTASTIC (Honestly, Freddie Highmore as young Norman Bates should win EVERY award in existence!)
It’s surprisingly fast paced, and obviously FULL OF PSYCHOTIC SURPRISES.🤯
I think maybe someone would say this show isn't scary because it's not scary to scare you, it's scary to tell a story, and once you understand what that story is, the scary makes sense.
I'M SO EXCITED FOR YOU GUYS TO FINISH THIS SERIES CAUSE THIS IS THE BEST SERIES I'VE WATCHED. I WISH I CAN FORGET IT ALL AND WATCH IT FRESH AGAIN.
YESS so excited for yall to get into this series. Not only is it scary, but it's quite sad and emotional. I hope you enjoy the ride.
