Couldn't you call in some favours ? You are always helping others 😊
Love how Lightning talks to you. He’s such a great companion.❤️
My same thoughts! ❤
I just heard Lightning clearly say " Hello"!!!😮
I love that you talk to your dog and he/she answers back .❤
talking dog is a sign of intelligence, lucky you. sure enjoy him in the videos.
Phil, don't ever be too proud to ask for help
That machine you're using to clear up the yard is called "bush hog" in the US. What a great job it does!
Have no fear of your creatures [whatever the heck those are!] Just remember, YOU'RE the boss! No uninvited guests allowed!
Look like Muskrats….
The invasive animals are nutria and have attacked his dog.
Angela and you work so hard in the beautiful sunny room this creature can destroy your chateaux can you get trap to capture them and drive them kilometers away
@@danielleboely6820Angela has long gone from his life.
Those little creatures aren't even cute, I am an animal lover but when they damage your home it is time to convince them to move.
Oh dear You didn’t need this setback More work more expense more frustrations
Hang in there 👌👍
Surely Phil "the authorities" could do something about the water rats.....they are pests & must be controlled.
The 'authorities' do do something, they tell you to get rid of them.
The mayor's office has been working on extermination of this invasive species.
I've seen videos of people who flush out clogged drains. They use high pressure hoses and rotating cutters, and they've unclogged some real messes. Time to call in the professionals!
Professionals cost big money.
Yes I need to do that every year because of roots of trees that create a blockage..🥹
Yes, high $$$$!! I did see a video/short where a man use a heavy tire attached to a heavy metal pole and pull it using a machine from the other end. I know Phill can push a tire thru that drain. But use that concept to attempt to break it down. A high powered pressure washer can probably help to get it started.
@@annaibarra3447 Professional unclogging and repair of the drains won't be cheap, but repairing the damage to the chateau won't be cheap, either.
Yes, I used to work for a drain company that sent cameras down drains. Jetted, used a rotating cutter to clear roots and relined the drain if necessary.
I would turn that patch of land into a mini meadow with wild flowers and woodland bulbs
So sorry about the morning salon, Phil.
Sheesh! Will you fit a grill over the discharge end too to keep them out?
One of the more common nuisance critters for our riverbanks and farm ponds around here is the muskrat. Our local agriculture dept offers a bounty on their hides and it is quite common to find young school age boys willing to come out and trap for them for free. If their populations aren’t kept in check it creates a plethora of problems for farmers and livestock, etc. You sound a bit exasperated at all the new tasks you are uncovering to add to the list of tasks already at hand. Here’s to hoping you find someone to work for you or with you to keep up with the load… I always seem to accomplish much more myself, when I’ve got someone around.
Love that machine you have for cleaning up the yard. It really has made all the difference. Very satisfying to see. My goodness those horrible creatures destroying the moat bank and your drain have really taken over. I hope you get that sorted. Thanks for the video
A Chateau Master’s work is never ending! What a smart man you are, Phil!❤️
Those pesky critters are causing you trouble.
Time to clear them out xx good luck
These animals have got to go. They are doing so much damage. They have attacked and injured the dog. This is madness
They’re only nice, cute critters if they’re not causing damage. Look what they’ve done already then take action… they’re critters out to cause damage. 🎯
@@Wren9 you obviously have never seen one up close. I did while visiting Mexico. They are very large rats with big teeth and claws. I would never call them 'cute' and certainly not 'nice'.
@@beckysimeone4882 yes I know them
Time to rent a drain auger or snake. Or consider purchasing one so that you can use it to perform quarterly drain maintenance. Too bad the nice work inside that was done, now has to be redone. It's time consuming and expensive.
Love the clearing! I'd be so tempted start a new business...."rent a gator" a live alligator to make the rounds of all the moats and ponds!
More to mow ❤love that your puppy talks to you!
Love how you are solving the drainage problems. And identifying the trees contributing to it. Great sleuthing skills. Living with and understanding the environment of your property is crucial. You are inhabiting your space. Embrace it. You aren't flipping a property you are creating a home.
Phil, you have the prettiest flowers!
I’ve rented big fans and heaters that the carpet cleaning companies use to help dry things out.
Sounds like the drain exits will need "future-proofing" to prevent animal access after you have dissolved the mud plug. Wishing you luck in tackling this dirty situation.
So glad you have professionals coming to get rid of the coypus. Don’t want them attacking lightening. Nasty things. Good luck sorting the damp out. Ironic with the moat side being the driest. Being the star you are it will soon get sorted. Bon chance❤❤
Oh I just knew they were gonna cause problems😑 Hope its manageable Phil
At least Lightening doesn't mess with them since he had his nose bit. Do be careful Phil taking that grate cover off. Nasty critters have got to go. With all the rain and the moat was almost flooded over a couple of times the water may have backed up through the drains also causing water damage, if the water table has risen and the drain is under the water level that might be a new issue that needs to be sorted, cleaning out the bottom of the moat to make it deeper or adding additional drainage above the water level?
Leaks are the worst. We currently have a roof leak around our chimney - again. 😢
I’ve had 3 male roofers to deal with one damaged tile but they were all cowboys. 😫
You should contact a local wildlife animal rescue and get them to relocate the cute water rats.
You also should have had you own Simon and Yanis.
You’re always the first to help others, I wish that a gang could come to your place and help you out for a few days or a week .
Later on I hope you will consider taking in volunteers, I’m sure some people would love to come and help out.
Of course without expecting you to host and cook all the meals . And people with real skills!
You really deserve help , as I said ; you always are happy to help others - a man with a big caring heart and humor, one needs that to bite over as much as you do😅
The Nutria (water rats)are a very diatructive invasive species the local government controls the dispatch and removal of. There isno relocation. One of them attacked the dog.
The cute water rats are an invasive species (called Nutria in the US) that the Mayor office in his area is eliminating. These are animals the French are actively trying to kill.
Problem is he doesn’t want to share his house with anyone/volunteers etc. he doesn’t want to employ others either . So he just has to soldier on his own
did you miss the episode when those 'cute water rats' ripped up Lightning and he had to have a Vet stitch him up? I have seen these critters close up years ago while visiting Mexico. Nothing 'cute' about them.
In France Coypou (Ragondins) are pests. They are exterminated, not sent rescues/sanctuaries. Phil's local farmer's wife would make a lovely rillette from monsieur Coypou.
Snip your cable ties Phil 😁
😂I noticed that too!
What a catastrophe! Those critters have got to go, they are causing a lot of damage to the chateau. It is a solvable problem which will take a bit of a think and perhaps some professional advice. Good luck going forward Phil.🙏❤️
Or a pew pew.
Hope you get it sorted ❤
I am sure you will get the Chateau grounds looking great. What a joy having spring pop up. I think maybe get Billy over to look at that problem. You're onto it Phil.
Phil i wish you luck and hope the professionals can help is there a way to create a wirebasket to fit over the drain to block their access,?all the best 😊❤😊❤
Bugger! Pesky varmints. The professionals need to help you get rid of them in that drain by the moat. Best wished and good luck that all are caught quickly. Lightening is a wonderful dog. Hugs and kisses to him please. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
As the saying goes "Old house Old Problems". Wish I was there to help you with the upkeep of the groundwork .
😢oh dear lord Phil, what a conundrum 😮 I’m so sorry for you and hope you can rectify the problem very quickly before further damage occurs. As per other comments, can you call in some help from friends? Best wishes for a successful and speedy resolution 🙏💝
Hope you get this issue sorted, perhaps metal drain covers in the future x wishing you all the best!
Thank you for sharing hope it’s soon sorted 😊
Damp is such a mare. I would do as you are saying but also look at some sort of grid over the output hole so they can't get back in again, its not like there is no other space for them
Lightening is so cute saying hello! You have a lovely place
Good afternoon Phil hope your feeling better.
Oh my goodness Lightning totality is saying Hello 😎 to you !! That’s so Awesome 🤩💗
Phil install some sort of metal screen over the moat entrance...after you clear the pipe...maybe a power washer can assist in rinsing out the mud out of the pipes.. have fun...
I seem to remember that the water levels were really high a few weeks ago. The water may have made it easier for the Coypu to access your drain and block it up. It really is time to get rid of the critters before the water does even more damage to your lovely chateau. I also think this might be a job for a professional team. It would be good to get a plan of the drainage system so that you can maintain it properly.
Wishing you lots of luck in getting rid of the creatures, hopefully it will be easier than you think!
Put a high power water hose down and set up your camera at where you think it will come out so you can see how much and what comes out. Better warm weather on it way and will dry things out. Good luck!
Set more traps, you need to get that drain cleared!good luck!
Can you roto rooter out the drain pipe? I was wondering if you set up motion lights ... Though you mentioned they are out during the daytime, I was thinking they were nocturnal. I am sure as time permits clearing back the cover of plants around the moat might help. Bless you Phil 🙏🤗💖
I was laughing so much ,as you were talking the dog was looking at you as if to say " ,I know right ? the pesty buggers "
Electric eel. Is your go to every time we get tree roots in our drains…
Will running a dehumidifier help dry it out and then figure out how to put in a water barrier?
The mote water has to b drawing in somewhere! Yikes, a constant problem I’d think?
I hope the problem isn't too major and you can sort as easily and quickly as possible
High pressure water forced through there should be able to clear it. If not, you'll need to auger it and then flush it I suspect. Alternative, is to locate the drain at various points and if you can get access into it, use the high pressure water at each point working back from the moat. Flush the muck and varmints out at the same time. This is going to get ugly lol.
Regardless, whenever you get the drain cleared, you need to put up a barrier to keep those pesky critters out of the darn drain in the future.
Put a garden hose up inside the drain, from the mote, and turn it on, eventually it will clear out what is stuck inside. Good luck
Phil our local Marie always arranged the culling of the coypu, even on our private lake. Hope this is the case in your area.
You can buy a high pressure drain hose attachment for the pressure washer that will help to loosen up the dirt. If not then drainage rods with the screw attachment on will also help loosen it up
That mower is doing a good job on cutting the grass.👍 Maybe with the seeds that area will be nice and green at some point like the other half 👍
Dang, the morning salon damage makes me sick. Sorry that is happening!
Phil you have worked so hard to make your home beautiful. Hate to see what the water is doing to your morning room. Could you dig out that drain or use pressured water to clear it out. The other way is to dig out the whole drain and replace it. If you can get it cleared out put a screen were it is going into your moat. That would stop anything crawling in. Also can you trap the river rats? I know my neighbors would shoot them. I lived in the country up north. How ever they might have a nest in that drain with there young. You need some of your friends to help you. I wish you luck with this! Please let us know what happening. The Mrs. USA Atlanta Georgia
Power washer! Then put a grate on the moat side. Good luck!
Use a high pressure water hose for the drain, and trap the water rats. The garden is looking good beautiful flowers.😊
I am enjoying this new perspective on maintaining and renovating the chateau
Check roof again & chimmney keep eye out for asian hornets this spring. Seems you repaired the roof during or b4 the virus. Glad the mower working for you rye grass for season. I check fadhia boards every spring but sm across the pond in tornado alley. You caught it! Well done!
Hope u can get things worked out.
Please film this epic battle between you and the river rats. I know you will somehow sort this out because now they’ve really invaded your space and are damaging your house. It’s frustrating, isn’t it? We feel your pain but we’re rooting for you, Phil.
Stephanie at La Lande , and she had her fixer uppers clear out space between wall and courtyard and put some water system in
I am glad you are still working to improve your beautiful home and the grounds there. Those critters are everywhere in Louisiana .They are called Neutra I think.
OMG 😲 that's not good hope you can get this problem sorted
Soon 🙏
Love Sue ❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Best of luck Phil.
Lightning is adorable and love that he talks to you 😂❤❤❤
I know how disheartening it is finding problems. Our farm house is ONLY 123 years old, but there are constant issues. You’re younger, you can deal with them. We’re all on Team Phil!
can you use a rotorooter service?
Maybe you can put a French drain above the existing drain and bypass the old one?
Daffodils are lovely. You seem more cheerful but another problem with the damp 😣 get some help… loadsa people owe you favours. Hope you can sort it 🫤
Phil you are always helping others, can you notcall in a couple of favours?
Could rodding the drain force them out & clear the blockages at the same time possibly? Just an idea xx
After you get it cleaned can you put a screen across the opening to keep them out?
aswell as the drain being blocked up planters on the facade might also hold water that will come into the building. i also notice the driveway seems to have been slightly raised higher than originally intended and covers the bottom step to the entrance. a higher ground level may also contribute to water coming toward the walls
Phil, pleased to see you are wearing a tee-shirt with my surname on it and spelt the same. Shame I do not have shares in the company ;-) agree with the fir trees causing so much damage our friends had fir tree damage in their garden roots going through sewage pipes cost thousands of pounds to repair. Could you hire company with a high pressure water pipes to flush out the drainage pipes?
Hi,Phil
I recommend you block the entrance to the drain pipe that the rodents are now using for a den. If they are inside after you've blocked it ...great! Leave a few days and then place a live trap( with food )inside the drain and wait overnight. The critters should be in the trap by morning. Relocate or give them a magic pill. A high pressure hose( ie fire hose) could be used to blow out the dirt and clear the drain all the way to the pond. That should work at least part way. You might still have to shovel the worst of the dirt out of the grated end of the pipe.
Question...do the rodents have a flat tail( like a beaver) or rounded tail( like a rat)? I think you might have muskrats....they are mean and will attack and bite. Be careful.
Argh ! Drainage can be such a big problem and sorting it out so difficult on older properties.
I just love you’re dog so 🥰
Oh the joy of home ownership!
Perhaps an auger bit attached to a drill to break through the mud in the drain. Then a truck that could pump water forcefully through the hole. Similar to a fire truck. Then cover the entrance with a grate as well so they can’t get in there. Wear a mask with a respirator and eye cover because you never know what kind of disease or bacteria is in there. Is there anyone that could help you ? Hope it works out. Good to see your buddy Lighting. So cute when he talks .
We had the same, but we had an old horse pond next to the property; a natural source. Might be an idea to check the old cadastral to see if the moat went all the way around and where the water routes to now. You can sort it. 💪💪💪
Edit to add: Coypou - that’s all you need!
The moat still goes all the way around
@@ChateauLifePossible to create a pond? Give the water build-up a route elsewhere? French drain?
Can you Literally flush those pesky little blighters out? maybe from the other end? If water can loosen up the nest they might move on.
This is is now my 4th video I have watched on your series. ❤. Cathy, Mansfield ,Ohio U.S.A. 🇺🇸
Pressure washer in drain and a cage at the other end.Rinse and repeat until mud and rats are gone. Add drain covers to keep rats out.
Phil, you need to hire someone to rid those varments permanently … poison or bull- ts
I think that spout needs a few more zip ties 😄😄
Can you dig some out and try a jet wash to push the soil out though the drain
Pressure washer will flush that drain right out.
Looking great!
Phil I understand not wanting to hurt the rodents but if left unchecked they will create some serious damage as you have seen with the drain. If they are allowed to continue they will do a whole lot more. Contact the wild life people and get some traps to relocate them because Spring is the baby making season so you will need to act quickly and very soon. Wishing you the best of luck with the rodents. Have a great day
He said he had called someone in and they had laid traps.
Seems like a job "Roto-Rooter", as we would call it in the US. I'm sure they have the same service in France. Just an auger on a motorized cable that scrapes out whatever is filling up the pipe - "cute animals be da**ed!"
Hi Phil
Good morning. Good to see you again.☺️👍
I will pray that all things work out for you.☺️🙏
