This video is about choice and who should have it.
Most general dentists are taught to do exactly what Polly’s dentist did, nothing. Rosie, her mother
pushed for a referral to the local Maxilofaical surgeon, which happened to be at the world renown
John Radcliffe in Oxford, only to be told exactly the same message. Do nothing, completely miss the opportunity to guide growth.
This is based on the assumption that class III is genetic. The orthodontic profession want to believe this, as it support the current status quo, but there is no good evidence for this.
Ask your dentist why they do not refer at 4 to 7 when it is usually obvious that something is wrong? Ask them if they have used the skills that they were taught in university to read the actual research and make their own mind up, or are they just accepting the opinion of a profession with a natural interest in preserving the status quo.
    Best wishes,
    Orthotropics video team
This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A nonprofit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.
Disclaimer; We regularly post discussions and debates from guests and colleges. The IAFGG is not responsible for all the opinions, statements or content of the material posted, especially that from guess lecturers.
The organisations web site is; www.orthotropics.com
Can you fix an underbite without braces? A; in theory yes, given that there seems to be such a large non-genetic influence. May be the question should be; "can you change your posture" since this is the hard bit.
How long does it take to fix an underbite? A; if you have a large underbite and are too old for orthotropic type methods then it can take several years 2-3 often with surgery.
Can you live with an underbite? A; the position of the teeth make little health issues, but the problem as a whole could have major implications.
Do Underbites get worse? A; Clearly it depends on what you do, the causes of the problem, then seem to stabilize at around 16.
Can an underbite fix itself? A; Not if you don't affect the causes of the problem.
What is a Class 3 underbite? A; The front teeth biting the wrong way around.
At what age do you correct an underbite? A; We believe that the younger the better, but this is controversial. The orthodontic profession tend to prefer people to wait until they are older and use surgery.
What causes underbite? A; predominately the environment, habits and soft food, but there does seem to be a genetic contribution.
How can I fix my underbite naturally? A; Mewing. Correct your oral and body posture, chew well, stand up straight.
Does underbite affect breathing? A; almost certainly, but this does depend on the presentation. Our worry is that this can affect expected life length, facial form and cognition.
    The underlying pathology of malocclusion and the related symptoms is referred to as Craniofacial Dystrophy;
    www.nature.com/bdj/journal/v21...
The association feels that it should be possible to prevent or at least minimize the level of craniofacial dystrophy through simple public health measures. Please consider supporting the campaign; preventcrookedteeth.com/

@@prince_sach50 3 months and you are expecting to see changes in facial form? Really? Percentage wise how many months in your entire life so far did you have poor oral posture + function and how many months do you have better OP&F (I would be shocked if it was close to perfect for much of the time now)? And you are expecting to see dramatic changes. Give it a year or so, continue to work hard and you will certainly get somewhere, but otherwise I only answer this question as an example for others to gain a clear understanding of the situation. NOTHING is going to occur in 3 months. It would make no sense that it does. You have started a path, keep going and in time you will see or feel benefits, but it takes time.
This is possibly one of the most important things that you do in life. You do it for appearance reasons while I want to see the health benefits, either way it is really important that you take this message to spur you forwards. Make this the way that you are, change yourself for the better. But don't expect results in 3 months.
Best wishes, and enjoy the journey. Mike

However side sleeping provides the effect of the glypmatic system by using CSF to clear out plaque and toxins in our brain. So I should do Side sleeping one benefit or Back sleeping for the other 🤔

Beautiful work man. You’ve got my admiration both as a professional and as a human being. I’m 44 years old, and I don’t expect much change in my facial features. But you know what the best part is? It doesn’t matter. What matters is that I do my daily practice, and that I’m happy to do it. Slowly, slowly, everyday I move from an unconscious posture to a conscious one. That makes me happy. And if I can give my children a positive influence, a good example, and help them grow and develop well on their path, I’m much more than happy. Thanks for the great work.

Hey! Not so much on my teeth (that have always been a bit forward), but for sure on my tongue and jaw muscles. After a couple of years, I can say that my tongue has shifted positions to the "ceiling" of the mouth pretty much for good. No need to think about it, it's just there (even though I still do my practice out of maintenance's sake). About the jaws, I haven't seen much visual difference, but it certainly feels strong. And about "not seeing much change in my facial features", perhaps that's a good thing considering I'm 46, and not getting any younger 😄 Idk, perhaps there's a correlation there, between getting older withou having our facial features drop to the ground. Id love to hear what Mike thinks about that line of thinking. Hope you're all doing good. Cheers!

Mewing absolutely changed my life. I am eternally grateful I have found out about this. I used to hate myself. My appearance and everything. The right side of my face was absolutely underdeveloped. I had an awfully assymetric face.
Then I started mewing and I'm sure that that helped me to like myself more. Who knows the effects that TMJ, and craniofascial dystrophy have on mood. The connection between the vagus nerve and the digestive system... And hence serotonin production. Idk. But however, since July last year I've been stable. And my mental issues were heavy. I'm not saying it was the only thing that helped me, but I wonder how much of my recovery can be attributed to mewing and its positive effects. Now my face is almost symmetrical, I still have crooked lower teeth, but I'm finally content with who I am.

VikingTheDude pretty happy. My teeth fit together now and so my smile isn’t as awkward. Also, because I had an underbite and cross bite before surgery, my face is more symmetrical now. Breathing through my nose and chewing are easier. My profile is better looking. I just wonder if mewing would help me at all to get more forward growth, or if the plates and screws that are now in my face would prevent that.

    • @vikingthedude
      @vikingthedude 4 роки тому +7

@@reaganhadaway6619 I see. I was 13 when I first noticed my class 3 bite developing. It had probably been developing way before that. It became very obvious by the time I was 15. Being a teen an all, I was so embarrassed for having it and would try it hide it from others as much as I could. I would keep my jaw slightly open 24x7 because that way, it wasn't immediately obvious my lower jaw protruded forward. I kept myself in denial that way till I was 21. Once I had come to terms with it, I felt so liberated. It was only then that I realised my self confidence issues hadn't just come from out of nowhere, that it wasn't an inherent flaw in my personality. That's when I decided to seek treatment. I'm 23 now. I'm 1.5 years into my treatment using braces. When I had to choose between braces and surgery, all the dentist's I consulted said my condition wasn't bad enough to warrant surgery. Now nearing the end of my treatment, I feel a lot better. The treatment only fixed my teeth, so my lower jaw still clearly protrudes outwards, and my upper jaw is still set back a bit. But I feel less awkward when I smile. When I'm out with people, I no longer feel like a piranha whose lower canines are jutting out. I sometimes wonder what would've been if I had gotten surgery. But I'm happy with even the progress I've made. Now I'm trying to build my confidence back up again.

In the end I gained nothing. Im mewing everyday now. And I love difficult challenges. I wish you were around when I was a kid. You are doing God's work.

if you have an actual malocclusion that is skeletal in nature rather than dental, then braces aren’t going to fix it. neither is mewing. the physical bones are malformed therefore they need to be corrected with surgery. if your malocclusion was only dental, then there’s no reason they would shift back to where they were unless you were not wearing your retainers correctly, retainers need to be worn nightly for life to retain your teeth’s position.

I love how this unconventional orthotropics not only changes the appearance of a person but also set them the right mindset about correcting posture in everyday life. Usually, people who used normal orthodontics will only rely on the technology and not make actual attempts to stop bad habits causing dental and facial problems, because they have always thought that facial abnormalities can't get better without operations or high technology methods. But prevention is better than cure. What really matters is awareness, since awareness results in actions to refrain oneself from having bad postures again. Those who have been through orthotropics and mewing, and those who simply believe in this whole theory will have an overall awareness of their tongue posture, sitting posture and sleeping posture; therefore, they strive to enhance them by themselves

skeletal malocclusions can be GENETIC. you cannot “prevent” getting a gene that causes abnormal growth in your jaw bones????? 3 other people in my immediate family have this skeletal malocclusion. no amount of correct “posture” could have changed this for me. posture cannot move your fully grown malformed adult jaw bones. this is so misinformed. there is a reason that surgery is commonplace for severe skeletal malocclusions in adults, thats because it is the most reliable, precise, well studied, and least risk of relapse.
