Excellent review both nice knives. One thing you missed with the comparison. I believe GEC pins all their shields. That is something a lot of traditional collecters look for.
Hey Michael I think from my stand point I would choose the RCB because of price point, both knives being some what equal, but that's just me because I will not pay over 100 for a knife. All that said, its up to personal preference and what you are willing to pay I think you have done a excellent job on the comparison of the two knives. Thanks so very much for sharing 👍👍👍
What a shame 🥲 Maybe one day the knife fairy 🧚♀️ will bring massive money 💰 to GEC, and they'll expand putting out 100,000 knives a year. But then-would they be the same 🤔
I failed to mention what makes the biggest difference to me. especially on a single bladed knife, is the difference between the blades. Yet another Wharncliffe vs a super bowie style clip point but I'm not without prejudice. lol
@@rasputinscastle I hear you it's a useful blade, just very tired of it being the exclusive blade for so many patterns the last several years...from everyone. My first wharncliffe was in '59 then I saw only one or two others over the years until about 5-6 years ago when we started to get inundated. Now you can't escape them.
Really enjoyed the video. I like RCB but there always seems to be just one aspect of the knife thats weird or off the wall. Like the Appalachian jack & the prybar or the beever creek barlow and the weird looking swedge. However, for the $, RCB is hard to beat. GECs are my hands down faves tho. I like how they are "traditional" traditionals. Anyways, great video. Keep it up
Yep, I prefer the vintage traditional, too. But they can be weird also. We just don't often see them. I'm looking for great things from RCB. They are a hungry company. Driven, inspired. GEC are great when you can find them. Enjoyed your thoughts, brother. Thanks 🙏
I look forward to Rose Craft being retailed in the UK .And wish that GEC were available with less hassle .I would have liked brass liners even if at additional cost but no doubt they wanted a price point.
Thats possible .Loved the scrimshaw knife too,Did you once mention you did not have an example of a ww2 British army clasp knife? or am i thinking of another youtube contributor .@@rasputinscastle
Great video! I like them both but as to the quality would give a slight edge to the GEC. One thing I notice concerning the price is that the GEC looks like a substantially larger, heavier knife. I’d expect that might factor into the price difference given the GEC consists of more material and has a larger blade. How much closer do you think the price points would come if the RCB were the same size and weight? 🤔
How is the quality of rosecraft if you bought 10 of them? Are they all as good as your model? I have 6 gec knives and they are all consistently nice knives. If rosecraft is like case knives then id say there's no way they are comparable to gec. I think you'd see the price double if they started making them in America. People don't understand the costs associated with manufacturing in America vs China. My take is to always support American companies when you can.
Yes your right, even if you take away consistency. It takes time to put the quality of GEC into a knife. And time is money. I have two Rosecraft knives and both are high quality. The GEC is superior. The video was meant to convey that its remarkable Rosecraft could even step in the same ring as a GEC. Thanks for your comments. All good points.
Great comparison! I'm more of an affordables guy, and for a hundred bucks less, Rosecraft wins! Hope to handle a GEC in the future, just to see what the fuss is about.
I have a new Taylor eyewitness that's better than a GEC, but it was made by one person, so it's basically a custom knife. As a production knife, GEC is hard to beat. You'll love it.
GEC seems elusive and after a few tries, I gave up. I have all the RCB traditional knives and they are well made and beautiful....Don't care for where they are made but that is the way things are in today's world. When I was younger, there was the same hoopla against a different country. Folks should spend more time looking into where things that goes into their bodies comes from or sourced. Start with your daily vitamins and medications. I can get three RCB for the price of one GEC and all I have to do it click Notify Me.
Rasputin put that turtle back in the water before you make some knife handles out of him! Awesome job of comparing David vs. Goliath,I think Rose Craft wins the battle of economics, no doubt. Let GEC try and make the Rose Craft for 50 dollars and see what they can come up with. Then we’ll have to see what Rose Craft can do for 50 dollars when they move to USA. But right now for the money, I love the Rose Craft!
100% agree Johnny. Lets see where the price points fall when they are being produced here the USA, I suspect they will fall in line with the mighty Great Eastern.
Great review.its not surprising the rose knife is such a low price.they use slave labor in china.i myself will never put a China knife in my pocket.god bless america usmc retired
When I think of a traditional knife, I see different categories. You have ones made using tradition construction using traditional materials and exact patterns. The rest are copies using modern construction machines. Many do not conform to the original design. If you buy a China, copy stamped using a Trademark not from the original maker it is less valuable than an original. If the copy does not conform to and original pattern it is a modern traditional. The fit and finish of originals knives compared to modern copies made with precise computer controlled machine manufacture is unfair. Knives made before the invention of computers, internet and computer machine production have historic importance over current copies. Old knife models from the past set the fit and finish rules that people talk about all the time today. Copies are less collectable than fresh new ones will ever be. 🤔
A very nice comparison, Rasputin. They are both beautiful knives. But I’m simply a budget knife guy and can’t afford to get into the GEC mode. Also, the way I’m wired, there’s no way I would ever jump through the hoops in order to (possibly) acquire a GEC pattern that I’d want to own. Similarly, I never camp outside a restaurant for an hour in order to partake of the fare. I resent the process too much. 😊
Aesthetics alone I do prefer the Rosecraft to the GEC. Thanks for the comparison.
The French Broad jack is cool 😎
Excellent review both nice knives. One thing you missed with the comparison. I believe GEC pins all their shields. That is something a lot of traditional collecters look for.
My words exactly, I have a Rosecraft Appalachian Jack which is an excellent knife, if the shield was pinned I would say it was as good as GEC!
You're right! How'd I miss that 😕
Great comparison Michael! thank you so much!

Totally agree and I'm looking forward to spending time with mine. ATB paddy 👍☘️
Great video sir. Rosecraft is catching up, if they can start producing the traditionals in the U.S. they will give GEC some competition.
GEC for the win, but RC is fantastic!!!
Hey Michael,
Love what RoseCraft are doing, great knives at a fair price 👍🏻
Love those apple red covers 😎👍🏻
Thanks for this one brother 😎👍🏻
it blows me away that Rosecraft is even in the same ball park. Thanks Sean.
Rose Craft Blades are very well made! And everyone can buy one! GEC are very hard to buy!
What a shame 🥲 Maybe one day the knife fairy 🧚♀️ will bring massive money 💰 to GEC, and they'll expand putting out 100,000 knives a year. But then-would they be the same 🤔
I think you are spot on with your evaluation. The RC blade is very well made still the GEC speaks to me as a better stronger knife.
Mmmm

Mate, you should try buying GEC's in Australia! Now that's hard..
Can you buy them on eBay 🤔
I can believe that. @@warwickmudge4114

@allancrotch2953 yep, I have examples
Don’t have any GECs yet, but I’m a huge fan of RCB and I really love them a lot!
Good stuff as always, brother!
👊🏻
Thanks,Tim

The RCB is made in China. RCB makes modern folders in the 4inch range that are priced in the $50 range.

Wash your hands and stop eating your fingernails………… Please
Ha ha. It's the knives eating my fingernails. Sometimes, my fingers. Thanks for watching John.
