    I have the Appalachian Jack and I love it, the D2 steel is sharp as a laser and stays sharp forever. I have no complaints so far.

    I would buy rosecraft if they are American made. I just have to wait for it. Nice comparison. Thanks for showing.

    I recently purchased an Arthur Wright. Being english, i thought i would support my fellow countryman. I sent it straight back! It was absolutely terrible.
    I bought the rose craft Kayak from the refunded money. It's an absolute gem. Same price as the Arthur W. It's sad but you can't even compare the two.
    Great review.
    All the best David.

      Supposedly, they are going to build them here. Unfortunately, I doubt the quality will be as good. Thanks for watching 🙏

    I saw dragon scales until Thrifty Kaniffy said they looked like deer tracks. After that, I see deer tracks. It is an excellent knife and I am very pleased with all the RCB traditional offerings. I would love to get a couple of GEC but they never seem to be available. RCB said they are going to start production in the USA...we shall see.

    I bought a couple Rosecraft models and I will probably get 1 or 2 more than wait and see if they will be making them in the U.S. at some point.

    I've liked every Rosecraft slipjoint that I've seen thus far. Haven't bought one yet, but I plan to. Thanks for the close look at this one, my friend!

    Great look and excellent comparison of 3 types of the manufacturing of pocket knives. Good observations all around though I'm a little surprised that you didn't call out the unfinished topside on the GEC's ricasso. Seems the Rosecratft did a better job on theirs and it shows when the knives are closed. Still the GEC speaks of better finishing quality overall.

      The GEC is a better knife. But the Rosecraft deserves a mention.

    A lovely knife, Rasputin:
    I felt those were deer tracks when you first lifted it. 🦌 that knife definitely deserves to be carried in a slip. 👍👍

    I wish Rosecraft would do sunken flush tang/shanks like some customer makers do and SAK. They are nice but I still like SAK 93mm Alox stuff better and they carry better and both around $40 to $50-ish. The Alox Electrician is my go to

    • @rasputinscastle
      @rasputinscastle  7 місяців тому

      I'm sure Rosecraft will do some higher-end knives. Right now, they're building name recognition/demand.
      The Chinese can make a good knife but they seem to struggle with SAKs. I've never seen a good one.
      I have a Wolstenholm SAK that's wonderful, built like an old utility knife.
      It would be tough to compete with victorinox . They've got the formula down and a huge fan base.

    Nice looking at these knives but until they make their US factory and start production, I cant consciously support an item that has been made taking advantage of poor labor laws. Case knives could realistically be much cheaper if the same labor laws applied here in the states (probably half to a third less) but I know I pay a little bit more for a American made product that is at least good enough for use and in theory shouldnt fall appart with practical use which isnt always the case with some other USA made brands not naming any brand since they do make some good products but the quality definitely suffers for the price when compared to case even.

    • @rasputinscastle
      @rasputinscastle  10 місяців тому +2

      It's complicated. It's more than a case that pays more in labor costs. They are owend by zippo. Corporations exist to make as much money as they can. I've heard Case executives say their knives meet their quality standards. That's a cost benefit equation. So, the case problem is that it is run by a corporation. On the other hand, there is doubt that China is dumping knives in the US. Selling knives for below the cost to manufacture them.
      I understand and support your decision not to buy them, brother. I hate the Chinese government.

      Thanks for stating your feelings. I agree with the sentiment. I hope Rosecraft hurries up and develops domestic production, whether their own, or a cooperative partnership with an existing manufacturer.

    Good looking knife. I wonder if it’s made at the same factory as A. G. Russell knives

    • @rasputinscastle
      @rasputinscastle  11 місяців тому

      I've never read a listing of factories in China. I have read of knife brands coming from a particular area or province. That said, it can be difficult to find where a knife in the US is made too.

    I don't know what makes you think brass is the most premium of liners and pins. Nickel silver is what has been used on traditionals as the more premium material and GEC almost refuses to use it. Daniels Family Knives are much superior to GEC but GEC has gotten internet social media over hype. Both GEC and DFK knives are overpriced and Rosecraft is fair and more heavyduty. I love what Rosecraft is doing but Andy could go the extra step and do sucken tang/shanks and they would be destroying everyone in the market

    • @rasputinscastle
      @rasputinscastle  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for watching, and thanks for your comments. You're absolutely right. Nickel silver is more premium. The comparison was between two knives. One steel liners and one brass. Brass is more premium in that case. Some knives were made with silver liners, which would be more premium than nickel silver even though nickel silver is much stronger.
      I haven't owned a DFK knife, but I would suspect they are far superior to GEC knives. GEC is highly regarded as the best production knife. I didn't say I believe that. I usually offer a lot of criticism about GEC knives.
      I don't think it's fair to compare Case knives to GEC. Case produces 1.2 million knives per year. GEC produces 30,000. They are in a different class. To me, DFK knives are custom knives. At runs of 50-60 knives per type, they are custom knives or at least simi-custom. So DFK knives are in a different league than GEC knives, don't you think?
      Generally, I agree that GEC knives are overpriced. I'm not sure I agree with you that DFK knives are. If DFK produces 5,000 knives per year and Gec 30,000, DFK has to recover cost on fewer knives. They have to charge more. On a custom knife I looked at recently, the maker said he spent 240 hrs. That's six weeks' pay. It's one reason why custom knife makers charge so much.
      I think we're on the same page, brother. You've made me want to get a DFK knife 😂

    Gec is way over priced…

    • @rasputinscastle
      @rasputinscastle  2 місяці тому

      The retail prices are reasonable. It's the scalpers that cause the huge price increases on GEC.
