Finding one available for sale is like winning the lottery. Biggest issue is they are not available unless you have a connection. Love them but they are unattainable.
Beautiful! I can only dream of those Northwoods, but over here in England UK I've managed to get some GECs (including one of those DIW Whalers!), and absolutely agree they are the finest production traditional pocket knives being made in the world right now - the day always feels that bit better when you've a GEC in your pocket.
So I was surfing UA-cam today and ran across this video. After hitting play I was like hey him and I were friends on Facebook years ago. I'm Rob F. I sent you a Kershaw Skyline back before you went to Africa. Talk about a small world!
Good Story, You know one day about 10-11 years ago I found knives ship free and they were announcing the Introduction of this beautiful slim knife called "The Presidential" and I remember thinking this would be the kind of knife you would have in the Breast Pocket of your suit on Dress Occasions! I was able to take my time and Pick Out the Presidential in my pick of Blue Camel Bone,I think there were like 12 left to choose from!
I don’t have very many GEC. Only like 4 of them and I bought one as a gift to my dad in 440c steel because he prefers stainless steel. Picked them up before them became scarce. And their prices were reasonable back then. The Farm and Field used to be between 50-60. Comparable to the Case but nicer.
Stefan Schmalhaus is where you saw the video on the whaler. An outstanding channel with high quality videos on traditionals, often with a European focus.
Well, if they cant produce enough knives so we "other guys" to get some to keep all the rich guys or re-sellers from getting them to sell on the 2ndary market for 3x's what they paid, every time I want to buy one they are never in stock....ever.
Hey Caleb great video brother and awesome collection of GEC! I have recently been getting into the GEC knife brands and have been watching videos of them, you have a beautiful collection there! Thanks for sharing!
Well it certainly has become a challenge! Most of my collection was acquired before the days of the frantic drops! My biggest advice is pay attention to retailers
Trapper , canoe and barlow have always been my favorite carry knives and I have just recently discovered the half hawk/Loom fixer knife from RR and have one coming in the mail and from the size and look its going to be my new favorite.
GEC’s are the best production knives on the market. The fit, finish, walk and talk are absolutely second to none. Yes they are more expensive but the rule applies, you get what you pay for. 👍
GEC knives are usually pretty great. At least the ones I have been able to get.....but they have been virtually unobtainable for several years....you have to be an insider on a list to have any kind of a chance of buying one and the price is always nuts. Speculators sweep them up and jack up the price for resale...pushing the average Joe out of the market....so I am no longer interested for that reason..I'm focusing on knives I can actually get my hands on...Bear and Son and Case(not so much anymore) yes the fit and finish are not up to GEC usually but they are in production, obtainable, affordable.....and American made with good materials. I no longer wish to play the 'Artificial scarcity' suckers game....paying stupid $$ for bragging rights for knives i will probably never use because they are too rare and expensive...just doesn't float my boat...But to each his own.

That’s it! Yep I love his work
Knife prices are way out of whack…
Exactly, it is infuriating. And the whole knife industry loves playing that game.

Nice! Maybe next time you can give us some solid tips on how to regularly score the GEC knives.

What watch are you wearing
Looks like a bronze Glycine Combat Sub...
I wonder if it would be alright to run whale oil in my truck engine?
Try it and let me know lol

Nothing wrong with knife hipsters.
Why? Because you're allergic to having a bank account balance lol
