I had an albino male and a female who was greenish in color. Sorry that I don't know what type they were. Either way, they loved each other and mated for 9 years. I gave over a 100 fry fish to the pet store from these two. I watched the whole process of her attaching the eggs to the wall of the tank and I assume him fertilizing them. When my big girl died, my albino boy died soon after. They loved each other

Almost certainly they were both bronze cories. There is an albino version of the bronze Cory and some bronze cories are quite green.
That or peppered Cory. There's an albino version of that too, and sometimes there's a greenish version without the spots.

Great info! I would also like to add that you should probably put their tank in an area that doesn't have high traffic. My corys used to have a tank in the hallway where people always went past and they were quite skittish until I moved them into my room - now they come out a lot and aren't as scared of people. Now they're calm, explore their whole tank and have no problem swimming to the higher levels to see what's happening.
But when I started keeping corys I did have a few problems with them because I didn't know how to keep them. Now that they're in a better tank with lots of cory friends they look so happy and breed all the time for me! I currently have a batch of 50+ peppered cory fry that I got from corys I bred myself from my first few.
I keep peppered cory in a heated tank (about 22⁰c) with two young goldfish I also bred myself. I wouldn't normally do this combo but my goldies unfortunately have some deformities, especially around the mouth, so they can't even suck up juvenile corys. In fact, the goldfish and corys hatched around the same time as each other so they've been raised together throughout their whole lives (I only had one tank available to raise fry so I just stuck them in together). It worked out pretty good!
The tank has some plants but they're mostly large amazon swords. I still need to get some smaller things like moss and guppy grass. It has soft gravel but it's larger than I thought it was so next payday I'll be getting sand to have a layer of something the corys can stick their noses into. Will also need to get a few more hiding spots for them but they still have wood they can hide under right now. The tank just needs a few more things to make it into a cory haven.
And if I remember correctly I have 14 females and 5 males. Though I will be selling a few of those females just to give them a bit more space. All but one I bred myself (that one is the father) and two are albinos I got lucky enough to get in the batch (they are still peppered cory though).

Great Review. I have a Betta tank. The Bronze Cory was suggested because of the Betta. I am buying an adjustable Thermometer where I can adjust the water temp to a mid range as opposed to the higher 78°F as with the standard Thermometers. This will allow the Bronze Cory to be a bit happier.

  • @discordiacreates6669

Great timing for this video as I was just thinking about trying to breed corys soon. Have had eggs once but wasn't on purpose so it could've gone better. Current are a few green and an albino, the albino girl being the only one that bred so far, a couple of pandas (might need to do smth different with them when I can afford more) and a small group of tiny dwarf corys. Idk if these three all need different temp parameters but i tend to keep all tanks at 76°F, home at 70°F so if the lower temp is a good one for them I might consider moving one species into an unheated tank, though that already has a pair of darters and idk how much they'd like neighbors so this is definitely a job for next month when i can upsize the unheated setup and replace the fish in the smaller, currently cory free tank with some inverts instead

  • @c.a.t4607

    Great information..
I have a couple groups of Corydoras.. my 40 gal is a bit of the Noah's ark type but I have 4 different groups of 5 fish each. My 55 gallon has two groups of 6 orange and black venezuelan.
They love cover and caves, on a sand substrate it will look like a little zen garden with the way they leave tracks through the sand. smooth pebbles and stones are good too because they like to dig in the crevices for food.
I noticed that when my Corydoras are spawning and laying eggs, they love to do it in a current stream. In my 55 I have a internal filter that I direct the flow the length of the tank with it bouncing slightly of the front glass with a thermometer in the tank at the deflection point, where the current is strongest is where my Corydoras lay their eggs every time they spawn.

Thank you for this information. I have four schwartzi corys and also four Julii. I intend to add two more of each to the tank. I have a very heavily planted tank, and the other residents are all nano fish (including two honey gourami which I think are classed as Nano? They don't bother anyone, though. I love my tank because since I added the Nano fish, the cory cats are far more active.
The images of your cory catfish are so beautiful! Thank you again for sharing and for the tips and advice. Best wishes!

Nice video. It's good to know they can handle 23C temps. That's about what my house is and I am trying to start a 29 gallon with fish not needing a heater. I've got 7 very small white clouds and 2 albino corydoras that I bought over the last couple days. I'll get a couple more corys soon, but I didn't have much of a bacteria base and don't want to shock them (have a couple amazon sword plants and am using bacteria supplements as well as some decor from an established 55 gallon goldfish tank to hasten the cycling process). I have some driftwood for cover, but after a month submerged and a couple boilings they are still floating which only serves as hiding for the white clouds and darkening of the tank a tad for them.

I have some corydoras hasbrosus and they are my favorite little fish. So much personality. I just added sand to the tank to give them a big area to sift though in the front. Unfortunately, I've had 2 of them die from some sort of bacterial infection that caused reddish spots and some fungus-y looking stuff form on them. I don't entirely know why and info online about the hasbrosus species specifically is hard to find. But that said, they definitely enjoy their food, and they love being in their little schools. I have 9 now (started 3 months ago with 11) and they are a joy to watch and feed.

If anyone is interested in finding your own botanicals, know that maple and oak leaves are safe for your aquariums. Every fall i collect two paper grocery bags worth of fallen leaves. I try to grab ones that aren't too decayed or too fresh. You can hang them overnight to get them fully dried if they are a little too fresh. Then just let them soak for a day or two and bam -- free and plentiful botanicals!

Hi Nick! I know this is an older thread but I'm trying to determine if I may have a problem with one of my Julii's. I picked up 5 (one didn't make it home unfortunately, was a baby & he got squished by the other 4 chunkies before I could get him properly in the tank). So, now I have 4. They're all chunky & active & eat well. One of them though, flashes in the feeding area (never anywhere else). I have Betta sand in that area. Water parameters are good. No ammonia, no nitrites & nitrates at 10-20 ppm. They've been in the tank for 2 weeks & are the newest additions. No other signs of sickness, gills are fine, no spots, breathing good & active. I don't want to run out & treat them un-necessarily if it's just gill cleaning or food searching. I know it's hard to "just diagnose" fish diseases so my general questions are 1. CN this behaviour be normal & 2. What can I look for in the body/behaviour to ensure I've got the diagnosis close to what it could be? Water temp is 75 degrees. Have a Fluval 407 in a 50 gallon so very good water movement.the only caveat is my PH is about 7.8 despite an enormous log of grapewood in the tan. Thanks!

Breeding them is fun, and they actually make a tasty little snack once they are mature.

the only food I can get my corydoras to eat is bug bites. Is this a good option for them longterm? Or would you have any other recommendations I can try to add for them to have a variation in their diet.

I love my pandas. They hide in a ornament log and under some grass and also driftwood I have under my automatic feeder. Unfortunately I've had 2 die on me.
I'm unfortunately going through an ich outbreak which I've seen on my tetras sharing a tank with my pandas. I've raised the temps to 28c for a few days and also using medicine to try and treat it. Hopefully my pandas will be okay. Do you think they'll be fine for around 4 days in 28c water?

    • @NM-jo3fi
      @NM-jo3fi 2 роки тому

@@PlatinumPlopper I ended up using medicine and it has worked great! All the tetras no longer have any white spots. I've stopped treatment for now and have reduced the temps to 26 (will keep it there permanently).
Will see how the next few weeks and see if any white spots appear again.

Hi, I’m from Italy so..sorry for my bad English! Anyway I’m searching for a “right “ cory for my acquarium. I’d like to introduce some neon and a couple of apistogramma Ramirezi and a group of Corydoras but I don’t understand what is the perfect temperature for these species of fishes. I suppose is around 26 Celsius… but I’m not sure! Is Julii Cory (with neon and Ramirezi) ok? Please can you help me? Thank you very much.

Hey there, I am a big fan of yours. I have been breeding mixed guppies for a while. I found two really good guppies among them, they are 1 female albino koi guppy and a male fancy guppy. These are the only two guppies that I found that were good. The rest are just normal guppies. So, I was wondering if it is possible to create my own line of guppies with only these two guppies. I heard people creating their own line of guppies with a few pairs of guppies, but I never saw anyone create their own line with only 1 pair of guppy, 1 male and 1 female. So please help me out. Please let me know if it is possible and if so, how should I do it.

I had a fire and it killed every fish in the tank but 2 Cory's. The tank even cracked from the heat and the water drained out almost all the way, but the Cory's survived laying on their sides. Sadly the 2 pet shops near me closed, the nearest pet store is 4 hours from me. Wish I could order Cory's safely online.
