Seiko's QC Deep Dive: • The Shocking Truth Abo...
There is no excuse for Seiko or any other brand to not fix its quality problems immediately! Quality is synonymous with Japanese manufacturing. The price increase is a different matter. Inflation is running high worldwide. Oil is up so it cost more to run the plants. I assume workers earn pay raises. Unlike the food industry which can put less product in a bag, watch parts cannot be left out. BTW, Citizen Watch Group is consistently delivering new watches over the last few years and at reasonable prices!
Actually, I've seen some long term projections for oil to go down. We'll see.
Looks to me like Citizen is starting to take over Seiko’s status as best bang for buck value with their releases the last years
Yeah I love their eco drive myself
@@mywatchjourney6579 Not just the Eco Drive but their recently automatics such as Tsuyosa and Promaster
I've bad luck with citizens. Both my Eco drive movement and the automatic movement died by itself. Both divers and worn carefully. Never knocked, dropped nor abused.
These days at least, on a limited budget, Tissot and Orient are hard to beat.
I still haven't gotten an Orient yet. Maybe the 38mm Bambino.
Yeah I mean shitty silicon escapements are great bang per buck
@@danieleporeba. The QC of your so-called "shitty" movement Power Matic is pretty bloody reliable, and extremely accurate from day one. If it came to replacing the movement rather than fix the thing, for cost purposes, they would do that anyway for something that is far inferior from Seiko.
I think Citizen and to a certain extent Tissot are the new Seiko when it comes to being the perfect combination of heritage and affordability. For pure innovation, Citizen is perhaps king. Their Eco-Drive movements are 👌
I love the eco drive
Been wanting to add a Seiko to my humble collection and eye balling the new 62mas but will all these call outs, I am now on the fence. Love my Orient star with so much value
Orient is another great value brand, plus they have heritage.
Hardlex added to lack of QC. I gave up on Seiko
Yeah, that's hard for me to take too. I def prefer sapphire. It's prob a mental thing, but it's there.
Customers actually decide what is the best watch for the money, especially in this market's segment. For many years, misaligned dials have been a serious topic for SEIKO. But nothing changes, and it is really sad.
I really do think they need to fix this. The damage to their brand is showing in the data.
Seiko's primary feature was it's price for acceptable quality. Now what is it?
There is the heritage. I myself still value that about Seiko.
Overpay for lower quality is Seiko's new selling point.
In the past, yes. Now it's their interesting dials.
@@lamentate07 So interesting they get misaligned, hah.
@@androidaccount7743 For the dives yes. Not the dress watches.
I collect Presage, Prospex and 5 series, but this year, I haven't purchased one hoping for EOFY price drops. 625AUD for a SRPK91k is just far too much! Hopefully the July sales will bring them down to around the 400AUD price point.
I'd always wait for discounts. It just makes sense.
I just have my one OG SKX007 and that's enough Seiko for me. Their prices are just stoopid now - I'd rather go Chinese homage than Seiko.
Yeah, I get into that in this video.
I won’t even consider Seiko now since they keep putting their low end movement and selling at a premium. Don’t be a Seiko snob
I have the 009 and the 011, and I'm glad I got them when I did
@@TemplarLovenow you're best off buying a homage with a Seiko movement
Totally ! @@bigfootsburneraccount9160
Im sure they know what they are doing, you need to specify which segment of the brand is having QC issues...
Sla lx sje as the highest end segment i believe is delivering tremendous value vs the swiss brands .
Now again, jf i were to buy an entry level seiko , knowing that theres qc issues, i would inspect the watch before paying ( new or used ) and see if theres any misalignment for example.
It's funny how every established brands are increasing their prices , but we go here after seiko ...
Seiko is pushing to go higher in the brand perception, and in fairness seiko relased a lot of really nice models over the past 6 years... My 2c
I'm analyzing the overall brand damage due to defects. I did a now detailed break down in my Seiko QC video.
Everyone is interested in charging more but giving lesse. The consumer must speak with their wallet. I am a life long Seiko enthusiasts. I own two and have purchased many others as gifts. but their price is out of alignment with value. My next watch will most likely be a microbrand. In that segment there are more options at great prices many woth seiko movements
That's a sensible choice. I'm partial to San Martin myself. Their on the fly adjust bracelet is great
I always said Seiko should only focus on watches over $2k and move all their models with 6R and lower movements to their other brand, Orient.
Their heritage will make this move possible.
In this way they will be able to keep high quality standards that will only add to the afford mentioned heritage.
Seiko has upped their game. Most people complaining are not big Seiko guys. There is a huge difference between a guy buying low-end models vs middle-range models. There is a difference. The bezel alignment thing never bothered me. I do dislike shitty accuracy, but I expect that on a $1500 automatic or less. I love that Seiko still makes good quartz models. The Swiss brands stopped offering quartz in men’s models, so it is nice. I love my Seiko Astron. That had a $2850 price tag a decade ago, and it was worth it.
Seiko right now does not make a good watch for $200, but they make great watches in that $800 to $3500 range.
I would also recommend good micro’s like Formex and Monta.
Yeah, if you really care about accuracy you would get a quartz. Of course, we already have our smartphones so there's that haha. I love my Monta btw.
well explained video, I'm always looking for 30-50% off rrp on second hand market, helps make it a better buy with new pricing
How do 2nd hand market prices affect Seiko financially? I would think their (primary & only) concern is only with the new watch sales. Most consumers don't buy multiple number of watches. They would buy one, and that would be it. Seiko collectors like us probably account for a tiny percentage of their customer base. On the collectors, Seiko would use the "Limited Edition" method in order to instil FOMO & exclusivity.
You're right. Seiko is really focused on the casual buyer, no doubt. That's part of the reason they think those price hikes might slip past some people. It's only collectors who are savvy and complaining.
Seiko is no longer the best bang for buck watch brand.
I see some people moving to AliExpress brands. I do think San Martin a good option.
I wanted to buy a watch as an investment and my choice was one Rolex or 15 Seikos, this was around the time of their announcement of their intention to go more prestige which I took to be more expensive so I went with the Seikos and I think I made the right decision.
Buy shares for investment not watches.
@@thegorn Shares, gold, silver, Bitcoin and other cryptos and watches.
Some Seiko models have risen in value. But that's still rare.
Seeing watches as an investment is just downright foolish and you to make matters worse, you went for Seikos. Haha
Seiko is severely overestimating themselves. I will not be getting one, Seiko can go screw their own overpriced hinds.
Overpaying for misaligned dials too! Time to boycott Seiko.
My SKX 009J Pepsi is a solid investment!
Seiko is number one watchmaker in world.... i dont care if prices are high. If something is not worth for me i will buy other brand. No point of whining.😂
I agree. They are still the most vertically integrated watchmaker. Everything made in house. Including growing their own quartz crystals.
all prices went up... food, gas, homes and watches ofc😢
The weakening of the Yen should also contribute to price falls. Seiko must have been a beneficiary of this & can afford to give some back
Good point! They are being really greedy
Seiko have problems, but I don't believe that brands like Orient are cheaper and better. Seiko's dials are practically impossible to beat under 800-1000 USD, and that's ultimately what you are paying for. Take the Presage Sharp Edge series. Who makes a better dial in blue or red than that for 700-900 USD? Not Orient or Citizen or even Tissot. And that's what you are paying for.
The QC issues are a different story, but sometimes I think people want great specs for nothing or can't accept that some features are actually design choices.
That is a good point. Even the detractors do acknowledge that Seiko does great dials. I love the blue dial on my mini turtle.
Sorry buddy all watch companys are dropping. Rolex and all
Yes, the entire market is down.
I did the video first hehe
???
Paying retail for Seiko is just stupid there's 100 website at there with at least 30% discount..
Yeah it totally makes sense to shop around.
I like watches, I like Seiko, I want to care; but, it's just jewellery.
I still love Seiko but prices are unjustified at retail
Seiko has a dilemma because the Chinese are now better at making watches, and they are of very good quality. The game is up; the Chinese will take over. I bought one recently, and it's better than any Seiko I've previously purchased.
Yup. I bought a Cap Willard homage from Steeldive due to this. And the inside is a Seiko movement. But most casual buyers have no idea about Aliexpress brands.
I never bought a new seiko. In my area you can find random turtles and coctail times for 250-300 EUR, and tons of seiko 5 with 7009 and 7s26 movements in good condition for 60-100 EUR. Now, a new Samurai might be worth 50% price hike based on finishing, but movement is the same and I never buy that at retail. It just feels like a bad decision. Recently I had an eye on a first 62mas reissue watch, never had any of them. And I chose an older cheaper version and its great.
