Steve Perry was a comet in our lifetimes, burning brightly and flashing through our lives for a brief period before flameout and gone forever - especially for those of us who grew up in the '80's and remember these songs and albums when they were new. Steve retired at the top of his game for his own personal reasons which only adds to his lore. For those of us who grew up listening to SP and this band, these songs - pure magic and brings back times and places we used to listen to them. Sweet memories, almost painful nostalgia for those days gone by as we grow older. There is no music like this anymore. Oh, and Journey isn't Journey without SP. God Bless you, Steve - and thanks for the memories! Godspeed!
Anyone in their peak is awesome. But nature takes its toll on ALL OF US. His last tour concert was 1989, so we just saw all undying old clips that never aged his voice. There are a couple of new vids and just like everyone else, he sounds like a 70 year old man. Ageing is an inevitable process.

Can’t believe this song hasn’t gotten the recognition it deserves. Should be on the top of the playlists. Just went to Journey’s Citi Field concert on 8-7-24 and if they had performed this one it would have probably been perceived as a new hit single.

Steve has maybe 8 old souls living in that voice. There will never be another. W.O.W. Still now at 50 years old, I have never heard better... this was the voice of my youth.
Dodger...you are right on the money about Steve Perry's Voice...he was the voice of our 50 something year old generation!!!! This is my favorite Journey Song...their old stuff with Gregg Rollins was awesome too!!!
Another Song from Steve that should have Won A Grammy So Much Talent, Songs that made sense and told of our human feelings and timeless meaning! Sad that this Fabulous Band never were on a Grammy Stage they should have Ruled the Grammys and had many many when others far less talented were winning ! I will never understand . I LOVE STEVE PERRY!
OMG Dianne, you're so right! It's irked me forever that so many Grammy winners in the past, pale in comparison to Journey with Steve Perry; with that voice and phenomenal musicianship not to be on the Grammy stage and awarded times over is unacceptable. They write their own lyrics, their own melodies, so much talent! I, like you just can't understand it either but I often question who are these people? Obviously they can't see true master class talent if they tripped over it. Thank you for sharing these thoughts!
It's 2023 and I was holding and just sang this song to my beautiful 10 year old puppy while she was going into the twilight to go to sleep. My heart is broken and my eyes are full of tears because I loved her so much. She was my best friend and had cancer. I stayed up all night with her just loving her but I had to let her go. My beautiful gentle white German shepherd was a beautiful lady. Thank you for this beautiful song it's another memory for me to cherish. 💖

Truly hope Steve Perry realizes how many people's hero he is. Wishing him a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY. May he have such joy and happiness as he has given to all of us, his fans, throughout the years. Lots of best wishes and love, Steve Perry !!!!!
Journey and Steve Perry have written some of the most beautiful music the world has ever heard. Truly amazing! Steve's beautiful voice brings tears to my eyes!
I was born in the 50's and grew up listening to music and rock bands from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. I was a "classic rock" music fan and I saw a lot of the classic rock bands in concert live. My girlfriend back in the early 80's literally dragged me to a Journey concert because they weren't really my cup of tea. It only took that one concert to convert me. I had never heard a band or a lead singer that sounded better live than they did on vinyl. I was blessed to see them 5 more times live. Speaking from experience - NO ONE was better than Steve Perry and Journey. When my kids turned into teenagers they asked me if I wanted to go to a Journey concert (because they grew up listening to Journey in my car and in our house) with them. I asked if Steve Perry was singing - if it ain't Steve it ain't Journey. Reply
Same. It was my best friend who took me to see them in 1981 when we were 15 years old. Months before the concert, I was asking her what's all of this about Journey suddenly?? I had no idea what I was in for. Literally a life changing experience!! My jaw was on the floor (metaphorically of course). We were more than blessed in how many times we saw them in the next several years. I can't imagine how life would have been without the love I have for Journey and most especially Steve Perry and his Voice!! Steve Smith was a really nice guy, btw!!
Green Hornet I feel the same. I have even more of an appreciation for his voice now than I had in the 80's. It's not even an appreciation now, it is such an unbelievable awe for what he was creating.
My wife and I had the fortunate opportunity to see Journey on the “Frontiers” and “Raised on Radio” tours and one of the great times of our life together and at our wedding we had this song as our first dance together as husband and wife….that was well over 30 years ago with 3 awesome children and 3 grandchildren children later and all of them know this song and it’s meaning…Thank you Journey and especially Thank You Steve for giving us a true song that means as much to us today as it back then!!!
In the 25+ years since this video/tour there has never been a voice like his. Is that even possible? Love Cain and Schon, but Journey is nothing without SP and SS on the drums. Thankful I was a child of the 80s.
Not taking anything away from Jonathan Cain, But Greg Rollie was a great contributor to the vocals and keyboard. There will never be a band of gypsies like this again the stadiums that they sold out , they were a dominant force of the late 70s and all of the 80s ! Damn the were Awesome.
Love songs tend to do this...have found 1 or 2 running down myself whether listening or writing the finish on a song, which has been far too long for me to write...but...MUCH HERE LATELY LISTENING TO JOURNEY...T-H-E JOURNEY😏👍❣🎶💧AINT NOTHIN EMBARRASSING OR WRONG WITH THAT...JUST MEANS YOU'RE FEELIN WHAT YOUR'RE HEARING OR PLAYEN👍❣🎹🎹🎹🎼🎶👏
Just reading about the reaction to this song has song has me tearing up. The memories of concerts when I was young along with Steve's voice and knowledge that it's long gone........😢😢
I so wish this Journey could have gone on forever. No one, and I truly mean no one can come even close to having the voice, energy and talent of Steve Perry.
Agreed. And didn’t even move into falsetto! He pulled this off night after night while touring on the road. Very, very difficult, and eventually, Steve just had to stop and take a rest.
every note is dripping with emotion .... there are other vocalists who may have wider ranges, can do all sorts of vocal dynamics, but no one comes close to Steve when it comes to passion. He doesn't need to do any kind of trickery - just the pureness of his voice is enough....
I can't think of a single vocalist with a wider range than Steve Perry, or one more capable of vocal dynamics and acrobatics. Have you heard some of the things he did live back in the late 70s? And yes, the emotion is just off the charts. His voice penetrates all the way into my soul. Always has.
Robin Vigil , truth. Every time I here his amazing voice, it brings back memories of the 80's...crystal clear! Some may disagree but nothing compares to the 80's!!!
+Charlie Evans They are, Charlie, but it's a ripoff-bad covers- shitty triubutes nightmare. It's seems that all the great music are already done, dude.
Saw this live on the "Raised on Radio" tour in 1986 in Lakeland FL. Steve was sporting that red cape in style.. Great show..great times.. Steve Perry is Journey.
I love this beautiful song so much, but it makes me feel like crying, because I feel like Steve was saying farewell. His voice is so breathtakingly beautiful. He is the best of the best and such a rare talent.
Actually he was saying hello after 3 years off! He would spend the next 10 years with them before saying goodbye for 30 years! You must check out traces the album!
@@paulwojnilowicz5265 Thank you very much for your comment. Actually, I have the FTLOSM CD, the Trial By Fire CD, both of which I love, and I also have a copy of Steve's Traces CD, which I had bought from his official website. Traces is a beautiful album too and I love it, and Steve's voice is just as amazing as ever. I am, and always will be, a fan of Classic Journey, and of Steve Perry.. Have a great day.
You know what? I felt that same fear of him leaving Journey when this gem hit the charts, regardless of the lyrics. I didn't get it then, but I was suspicious. The way he delivered it was kind of different from the previous ballads. I would've loved to be wrong, but finally I was right. Journey and SP parted ways after that song. But thank God we still can go on to enjoy The Voice, either with the good old songs with Journey or in his solo career. No voice like his, sui generis. Regards.

Steve Perry is so great period. So many great songs by this man. Journey was nothing until he walked in, and people want him back. I understand that but he is 75 now, who out there can do anything like they did when they were young? Love and respect him so much.
I saw Journey twice in Memphis. They sounded better live than any other band I can remember. Steve Perry. Wow that voice. Always gives me chills. Love it.
Faithfully is the best Journey song , by far. The irony in the above statement is this... Jonathan Cain wrote FAITHFULLY all by his lonesome! And get this! He didn't have to share ANY of the publishing royalties with his bandmates-just the publisher, which is 50/50!
Little did they know that this would be more of a nostalgia video and while at the time it was the moment to be alive, it’s now but a long distant memory.
Perry at his most absolute zenith on this record. One of the most underrated records of the 80's. Journey's best musical effort from an arrangement and production standpoint

I'm 58 I remember the disco era. Thanks Timothy, I read this I had a smile on my face. Last few days been hard but I needed that smile. Long live Journey.
I saw Journey in 1986 on this same Raised on Radio tour and refuse to see them again without Steve Perry on lead vocals. We love you Steve!
I too was at this concert tour for Raised on Radio. Decided to ck out Augeri, disappointing, but went to Peoria to see Arnel. Left show early, couldn’t stand the showmanship. Why see a counterfeit when we still have the real thing on video! Just a loyal Steve fan who won’t waste the money anymore.
@@pamjohnston7473 Exactly Pam. Glad I didn't make the same mistake with my money! 😂
The footage, along with Steve's beautiful voice, takes you back in time, to a place I miss!
Me.2..wow
I'm there and it's amazing god I miss the 80s
I know this is overly nostalgic but sometimes I feel like I would give up everything just to go back and watch them live onstage. If I could pick my Groundhog Day…. This would be it. And endless loop of that voice and this wonderful band
Me, too. It was such a better world back then.
That’s what makes this song so beautiful and emotional for me, what you said here Catherine. I think we feel an emotional connection.
My apologies...meant to type Gregg Rolie (spelling?)
Yea, I am with you - love the old stuff with Gregg Rolie. Their voices were great together.
Dodger Dogz Sam Cooke has an amazing voice too. You could argue that Sam and Steve have very similar vocal styles.
Sean Rooney You're absolutely correct. Sam and Steve do have similar styles, I agree. Sam belongs in the elite group, too.
Met Steve Perry a few years ago coming out of a deli (he lived just a few blocks away). What a delight to speak to this great talent!
100% agree. Too much competition back then. Michael Jackson , Madonna , Lionel Richie etc. shows you how good music was
COULDNT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF!!
He’s from my hometown Lemoore California
OMG Dianne, you're so right! It's irked me forever that so many Grammy winners in the past, pale in comparison to Journey with Steve Perry; with that voice and phenomenal musicianship not to be on the Grammy stage and awarded times over is unacceptable. They write their own lyrics, their own melodies, so much talent! I, like you just can't understand it either but I often question who are these people? Obviously they can't see true master class talent if they tripped over it. Thank you for sharing these thoughts!
I will never understand either. The best band of all times, and never come back
It's 2023 and I was holding and just sang this song to my beautiful 10 year old puppy while she was going into the twilight to go to sleep. 💖
@Steve Perry not good I am so so heartbroken and I want my princess back. Can't stop the tears and keep playing the most beautiful song in the world I sang to her while I was holding her I rescued her from a terrible life and I just wish I had more time. What's in our hearts there's never time to say 🕊️ I was playing our song again and again and I will always love her dearly it is kind of you to reach out especially now
I am so sorry to just be thinking about my grief thank you kindly from the bottom of my heart for this most beautiful song with lyrics that will forever be locked in my ❤️ thank you Steve for mine and princesses special song
Absolutely heart breaking :( Been down that road so many times myself, you are not alone.
Virtual hug. Just went through that as well.
Can't believe this wasn't a huge hit for them....Fantastic song
Truly hope Steve Perry realizes how many people's hero he is. Wishing him a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY. May he have such joy and happiness as he has given to all of us, his fans, throughout the years. Lots of best wishes and love, Steve Perry !!!!!
Been listening to this song multiple times a day for a couple of weeks. I can't seem to get enough of Journey. Steve Perry's voice is mesmerizing.
He is a legend...
I feel the same way!!!!! I have to listen to it every day!!!!!😍😩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes it is! I have a daily dose of it!💕
Same here. This song has been on repeat for days.
This video is amazing... the scenes, the song lyrics and melody, the instrumentals, and of course Steve's incredible voice...
ASOLUTE PERFECTION.❤
Journey and Steve Perry have written some of the most beautiful music the world has ever heard. Truly amazing! Steve's beautiful voice brings tears to my eyes!
One of my all time favorite vocalist/ singer and hero I've had the privilege to grow up with and enjoy in my lifetime!
I had a great opportunity to see them in 1981. I will never forget it. That’s all I can say .
Perry has a soulfullness that can't be touched.
First time hearing this song! Another awesome power ballad. And I NEVER get tired of Steve's amazing voice ☆☆☆☆☆
Gypsycyn same x
milsey teresa same
Green Hornet I feel the same. I have even more of an appreciation for his voice now than I had in the 80's. It's not even an appreciation now, it is such an unbelievable awe for what he was creating.
Sounds like an angle wow perry
I love steve perry, too. But you gotta admit, that arnell is pretty good.
+Cyndi Rowan you are soooo right!!!
Not taking anything away from Jonathan Cain, But Greg Rollie was a great contributor to the vocals and keyboard. There will never be a band of gypsies like this again the stadiums that they sold out , they were a dominant force of the late 70s and all of the 80s ! Damn the were Awesome.
I love Voice love love love steve
The.best.band.,ever.is.jounrey.with.steve.perry...!..4.ever.
Please check out an album called traces! Even at 74 I promise you will NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
I have tears in my eyes. My friends are looking at me like I'm crazy. Love him and this song.
Ann Sebastiano ..be crazy for Steve its always ok
Love songs tend to do this...have found 1 or 2 running down myself whether listening or writing the finish on a song, which has been far too long for me to write...but...MUCH HERE LATELY LISTENING TO JOURNEY...T-H-E JOURNEY😏👍❣🎶💧AINT NOTHIN EMBARRASSING OR WRONG WITH THAT...JUST MEANS YOU'RE FEELIN WHAT YOUR'RE HEARING OR PLAYEN👍❣🎹🎹🎹🎼🎶👏
RIGHTFULLY♡♡♡
Just reading about the reaction to this song has song has me tearing up. The memories of concerts when I was young along with Steve's voice and knowledge that it's long gone........😢😢
Crying is ok. Music is supposed to bring about emotion!
I so wish this Journey could have gone on forever. No one, and I truly mean no one can come even close to having the voice, energy and talent of Steve Perry.
True...
Just wow, sustained tenor high C#s and topping out at E5, that takes a lot of skill and effort, Steve truly is one in a million!
Agreed. And didn’t even move into falsetto! He pulled this off night after night while touring on the road. Very, very difficult, and eventually, Steve just had to stop and take a rest.
This is the greatest ballad ever written by Steve Perry for journey and all the fans around the world a beautiful song 👍👍⚘
better than "Patiently" or "Faithfully" ?
It's 2024.
This is still an awesome song.
Steve Perry is still The Voice and will always be.
Time....has not changed this!
Very true it's just awesome
every note is dripping with emotion .... there are other vocalists who may have wider ranges, can do all sorts of vocal dynamics, but no one comes close to Steve when it comes to passion.
Always has.
ua-cam.com/video/MxGEVIvSFeY/v-deo.html
I agree completely. One only has to scroll to about 2:30 to see a fine example of his range!!😵
Robin Vigil , truth. Every time I here his amazing voice, it brings back memories of the 80's...crystal clear! Some may disagree but nothing compares to the 80's!!!
@@SamsaraSings from my hometown in Cali Lemoore
Tho only other couple singers I would put in with him is stevie nicks and there's a few more but Steve is way up there for sure
Why can't the 80's go on forever?
+Charlie Evans They are, Charlie, but it's a ripoff-bad covers- shitty triubutes nightmare. It's seems that all the great music are already done, dude.
Sure seems like it.
+Charlie Evans i know right?????
I agree, and I wasn't even alive. this generation sucks.
Saw this live on the "Raised on Radio" tour in 1986 in Lakeland FL. Steve was sporting that red cape in style.. Great show..great times.. Steve Perry is Journey.
One of journeys most underrated songs I love this song
So much heart and soul in Steve’s voice. This song & video always brings me to tears 😭😭😭😭 We wish Journey with SP could have gone on forever!
A lot of us were there when this music was "now".....that was an amazing time. Still is.
Regards.
Holy smokes what a beautiful song! Steve Perry... wow... I mean just WOW!!!
Steve Perry....we are 52 and 55..
Teens when in the 80's.your voice and music has touched our generation first and now touching my kids generation.YOU...MY FRIEND...ARE A LIVING LEGACY!THANKS 4 THE MUSIC !THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER STEVE PERRY🎸🎤🎙♩🎶🎵💕🕇🕆
Steve Perry is so great period. So many great songs by this man. Journey was nothing until he walked in, and people want him back. I understand that but he is 75 now, who out there can do anything like they did when they were young? Love and respect him so much.
FROM THE TIME WE STILL HAD GOOD MUSIC ! 🤩🙌
I saw Journey twice in Memphis. They sounded better live than any other band I can remember. Steve Perry. Wow that voice. Always gives me chills. Love it.
Happy Birthday! You’re so wonderful.
I think this is the best Journey song by far. Steve Perry voice performance is outstanding. One of my favorite 80's songs.
Steve Perry's vocal range is insane - I just adore this song throughout but from 2:25 onwards it's breathtakingly stunning, brings me to tears 💜😢✨️
Chills just go up my spine everytime I listen to it. Steves voice , just wows in this song. One of my favorite Journey songs.
So you like this? Check out traces the album!
Perry at his most absolute zenith on this record. One of the most underrated records of the 80's. Journey's best musical effort from an arrangement and production standpoint
And that's just one of the reasons why he is the VOICE!
Back in the day.... Nothing better.
This this day, nothing better.
@@davidb.8948
This is simply made for Steve's voice...those high notes at the end just get me every time. Still waiting for you to sing again, Steve....patiently.

Steve's BACK !!! 2018 New Album
yaaay !!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
and Traces is fabulous !!!!!!!!
Traces !!! Great album even at74 years old! He is as good as he ever was!
The magic of Steve Perry, He sings with such feeling that he makes us all fall in love with him. Tell me that yall didn't wish that you were "Sherry"??? The most beautiful Vocals ever, and Elvis but of course. MY 2 FAVORITES!!! I know he has lost his Love, but she will be there when it is time for him to go home. I pray you have Peace within, Happiness and Joy Mr. Steve Perry and THANK YOU for all the LOVE you shared through music. God Bless You!!!
There will never be another singer like Steve Perry, his voice is iconic and his range is unbelievable but it is the passion and feeling he put into every song he sings is unparalleled. There will never be another and that's why his voice is still being played 30-40+ years later and that's why we are all still listening. God Bless You Steve and God Bless your Amazing Singing!
One beautiful song after another from the Masters - Journey.
I love Steve Perry’s singing absolutely beautiful 👏🏻
It's such a shame things went bad between them. You can see the joy in performing and the bond of friendship between them.
not even 2 million hits this song deserves 200 million!!!!!!
Truly does
It's 6 millions now
Only chose can experience that and we are them...
I still can’t believe that I had to be home before BEFORE midnight on 12/31/86 Long Beach Arena -CA never have been able to see that concert in full - at least I gave up my stub to someone outside to see it he offered $$ but no way - here go have fun❣️if thinking maybe I should have had him get me their program - didn’t have enough money to get it - oh well
I’m feeling chills, goosebumps, this song is so beautiful ❤
"Tell me secrets that make you cry," the pure emotion in those words, Steve Perry you are the Greatest Of All Time❤
Listening to this makes me sob.. I had bright dreams and thoughts of a beautiful future of my life back then. This song brings me back to the most beautiful times of my life , I wanna go back so bad 😢 I miss it
