Does this only happen with weight on the car? You can reproduce it lifted? In my FWD Promaster City (only 20k miles), i got stuck in deep sand and heard a very loud pop while trying to get out. I drove home 300 miles with no noises. But the next day reversing from parked heard the single pop. It does not happen while driving or when the car is hot or taking off at stop signs.. seems only when parked for a while and reversing. What might this be? How can identify which side?
@Anthony Cant I was in hurry.. was my engine mounts. Dealer did all 3 at discount for $1k.. can get cheaper. Do just the transmission one or do it yourself..
I didn’t wind up figuring it out. I sold the Jeep a few months later. I believe it only happened when switching from D to R and maybe some preload building up in that scenario caused this. Never was an issue when just driving normally. Sometimes I tend to hyper focus on things until I worry myself about a problem that isn’t really a problem. Jeeps are noisy and clunky sometimes haha.
@@chriswilliamson3376 thanks. When my auto trans is downshifting around 20 miles an hour it will buck a little and make the same noise. Been doing it since I bought it. But seems to be a little worse now. Recently got a lift, so maybe the new angle is making it worse? Who knows. But yeah, sometimes it’s just easier to turn the radio up
@@YounesProduction I put on a new driveshaft on front and rear since I got a lift. Still does it. So, probably transfer case. But, doesn’t seem to mess with anything performance Wise.
@@apwrealty it is the shaft when it falls apart inside thats the exact noise it makes . easy repair for you husband . tons of videos on how to fix it here on youtube
You mean universal joints i think….yeah if needle bearings are gone itll clunk driveshafts and make noise as you drive. My 98 tj needs all u joints replaced currently
They seem to say that about every scrubbing or popping noise when placed into reverse. I have an older unlimited sport. 2016 to be exact and that’s what they told me but I don’t hear many doing it. I’ve test drive some and been next to others around my year. Doesn’t stop me from driving but the noise is embarrassing
thank you for this video . God bless
Was the issue diagnosed and fixed??
What was the cause of this?
Well, what was the cause?

Hello, did you find the problem?
@Anthony Cant I was in hurry.. was my engine mounts. Dealer did all 3 at discount for $1k.. can get cheaper. Do just the transmission one or do it yourself..
Did you figure this out? Mine does it too. New driveshaft maybe?

@@apwrealty same issue here exactly as you explained

Pretty sure its the cv joint. Bout 50 bucks. Replace both while you're there.
You mean universal joints i think….yeah if needle bearings are gone itll clunk driveshafts and make noise as you drive. My 98 tj needs all u joints replaced currently
Mine sounds like that too 2020 jlu. Dealership says to let vehicle warm up then reverse, says its normal operation...
Same they told me , jeep only 4 years and it never made that sound before so how is it normal now

If you look closely you can see the pinion yoke move on the rear end
Where the dust shield is watch the yoke get pulled in when you put it in reverse
You sure can. That is not normal. Not enough preload?
