- A TENS / EMS Unit can be a great tool for helping to relieve tennis elbow & golfer's elbow pain. Here are some pad placements to relieve different types of elbow pain. Purchase a Healthmate Forever TENS/EMS Unit here: amzn.to/2LYI5rL (affiliate link)
Some other common elbow injuries that may benefit from a TENS/EMS unit include things like sprains, strains, tendonitis, bursitis, and general arthritis.
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is used to help reduce pain and increase circulation. Basically the vibration of the TENS follows the same pathway as the pain pathway to the brain and helps cancel it out. It is a great alternative to pain medication. A TENS uses two or four electrodes with cross currents to surround the area. The deep vibration/massage helps relax the muscles and allow for healing. You should not get a muscle contraction when using TENS.
EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) is designed to treat more of the muscle area than the nerves. It helps activate the muscles to help healing, and regain strength in that muscle. EMS is uncomfortable, and you should get a contraction with this. To help with elbow strengthening, placing the electrodes over the wrist extensor muscles is a great option.
Healthmate Forever has a wide variety of TENS/EMS Units and pads. The unit I'm using in this video is the Pro18AB and the W19 wireless units. Check out their full line of products and learn more at: amzn.to/2LYI5rL (affiliate link)

I used a tens unit three times a day for four days and I'm glad to say my golfer's elbow pain has gone completely. Highly recommend getting one of these.
This is true or not ?
How long was each session that you did? Thanks
Twice a week
@@superstar_evi each session 10 minutes? Or 30 minutes? Or more? Thank you
Approx 10 mint
Thanks for the detailed information and advise. I ordered the same unit from Amazon. Hope it helps my tennis elbow problem.
You're welcome.
Thanks Dr Jo.I have Golfers elbow but I have been ramping it up,whereby my arm contorts. It has improved but am I doing more harm?
Thanks Jo, is there a best arm position to get the most benefit? Arm up, down, lying down, sitting?
Where should I put it for a groin tear?
Hi DR Jo, How many treatments does it take on average to get rid of the pain for golfers elbow, as I've had this since November last year. The pain is low, as I've just purchased a tens unit and used it three times so far.
Is this also good for an triceps tendinopathy or tendinosis?
I've been suffering with golfer's elbow for about 4 months now. A friend recommended a tens unit which I just received today. After reading some of the comments about their successes with theirs, I'm looking forward to getting rid of the pain in my elbow. It sounds like ~15 minutes, 2 - 3 times a day would be the schedule to follow. Would that be correct? If so, and I realize everyone is different but, how long does it take to get relief and healing?
Would this work for cubital nerve irritation?
Thank you thank you
You're welcome.
can you use on lat and med at the same time? I have pain issues for each.....and on both elbows.
+AskDoctorJo,
Thanks for the video series on using the TENS / EMS units. Could you give some advice on the length of time for use on the different areas?
You're welcome. As far as the TENS, you can use it anywhere from 10-30 minutes (though most units will go up to 60-80 minutes). Some people use it longer, but I feel like your body starts to get use to it, and it takes away from the benefit of it. I usually suggest 15 minutes, 2-3 times a day. As far as the EMS, it really depends on what your injury is and how severe it is.
+AskDoctorJo, awesome. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Hello, recently i have been have some problems with my UCL. Any time i am doing a tricep exercise it starts to give me a painful feeling. Coukd this help with that pain?
Mine started as golfers elbow..
Now my pain is right in the elbow bone where I cant even masage the pain out..
Numbness in fingers at times..
Will this work even if pain isn’t on tendon anymore ?
Can tens be used on injected elbow
I used TENS/EMS for my back pain, and it was cured (ontop of PT) but pain didnt dissappear until I started to include TENS/EMS in my routine.
Tens for BPI?
Thank you Dr Jo
Do you recommend this TENS EMS device for a jammed swollen finger?
It might be a little tough to get the electrodes on just a finger.
Doctors told me .....Mild ulnar nerve neuroprexia across elbow on left side ..... Please tell me about excerise ......or give me link to see excercises ....
When i place pads on elbow , with current pay little finger also start moving with current ...is it normal ?
Dr Jo, the is the TEN/EMS for stroke patients to make the elbow move
It's possible the EMS would help, but it really just depends on how much damage was done from the stroke.
Is it ok to use on both sides of the forearm at the same time if you have both tennis and golfers elbow?
Yes. That should be fine.
Which setting would be best for tennis elbow ?. Also I have subscribe.
Thanks for subscribing. If you are using it for pain control, TENS would be better.
Wao it's very useful
Thanks.
AskDoctorJo welcome

Is tens needed for all golfers elbow ??? Did get that at my therapy ??
Not everyone uses them, but it might help if you aren't getting much relief with other treatment.
hi doc, i have the type HM8GL device to use for my shoulder pain . How can i use it for ems purpose??
The setting that looks like a dumbbell (7 I think), is the one for ems.
@@AskDoctorJo thank u so much 😊
You're welcome!
Nice Video Doc Jo! Quick question tho.. aren't you suppose to place the electrode directly on a bony prominence say on the lateral epicondyle? (at least that's what it says in my book). Thanks!
Thanks. Every unit is different, so I can't speak for all of them, but in general, no. Unless there is just one electrode (that is really the only exception), the current goes between two electrodes, so they should be placed around it, not on it.
@@AskDoctorJo okay, thanks for the clarification! :)
You're welcome!
Does TENS help promote healing and reduce stiffness?
TENS helps improve circulation which can help promote healing, and it basically distracts you from feeling the pain, so you can do the stretches and exercises needed to help.
Hi Dr. Jo...can you use the criss-cross method on the hand and wrist to eliminate pain?
The criss-cross pattern can be used on the wrist.
Thank you so much for responding, Dr. Jo. 🌝
You're welcome. Good luck!
Hi Dr. Jo...one last comment... maybe you could consider doing a video for those who suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or other diseases that plague the hand... just a thought.
I have several videos for both. I have over 700 videos, and you can find them on my channel: ua-cam.com/users/askdoctorjo
Can I use this for Cubital tunnel syndrome?
Yes, it might help relieve the pain.
Can the tens 700 help with tendonitis in the wrist
TENS in general can help relieve the pain temporarily so you can do the stretches and exercises needed to heal.
Hi Doctor Jo, my elbow pain came back two weeks later while doing light weightlifting. I went back to the gym the day after the pain went away but unfortunately, it has come back, so my question is how long should i wait once the pain has gone.
Longer the better

I went to Amazon to purchase this unit for the wireless probe use, but it is making me create a BUSINESS ACCOUNT? Is there a place I can purchase this unit retail?
Thanks! That's weird. Maybe try their website directly: healthmateforever.com
@@AskDoctorJo Thank you..
Just ordered from website!
@@AskDoctorJo My unit arrived today... but I think (dang it) I got the wrong one. I don't know if it is similar to the Tens/EMS combo unit as seen in your video.
This is the one I ordered: Healthmate Forever TENS & PMS HM24AB.
Can you tell me the difference between the EMS and PMS? And will this unit I have now, still massage like the EMS? I pray I didn't waste $130.00 (and yes, it has 2 wi9 kits with it).
EMS and PMS are basically the same thing. It's just what different brands call the muscle stimulation part of the unit.
@@AskDoctorJo Oh ok.. got'cha... Thank you!
❤
Does it also help with range of motion?
It really depends on what is causing the limited motion.
@@AskDoctorJo too much tennis?
If the limited motion is due to pain and/or inflammation, it might help, but if there is a specific injury, it just depends on how severe it is. So unfortunately, I don't know that answer since I can't evaluate you. If there is any way you can see a physical therapist in person, they should be able to help answer your questions.
@AskDoctorJo it's just overuse cause it slowly gets better I'm just hoping for a quicker recovery. I'm headed to chiropractor today. Thank you for your quick responses btw.
I have tanish elbow since 1 year..
With therapy should i use???

6-lmmunotherapy
??? Wich therapy should i use ??
I'm from Iraq and now I understand more about the writing bar
..good job ❤
Thanks.
Hi, great video! I have tendinitis on my right arm from the upper wrist to lower biceps from tennis and golf, and it's not tennis elbow... No tears confirmed by MRI.... Will this help, and how is this effectiveness finished to the Bemer?
Thanks. It might. Unfortunately, I don't know if it will help you since I can't evaluate you. I have never tried the Bemer, so I don't know.
And is this much better than the standard electric still pads which look exactly the same?
I don't know what you mean by "standard electric still pads."
Sorry electric stim pads, that just send electric current to the muscles to help build and recover from conditions like atrophy etc
TENS is different. It's not for muscle building, it's for pain control, but the pads would be similar.
Natural please
What?
