I saw on fb recently where a woman's friend was talking about her childhood. The woman said that when she was a kid whenever she spilled something or broke something her mother would say, " I love you more than the vase" or in your case, " i love you more than the rug". So the lady tried it with her kids. She said that it made all the difference between freaking out or yelling, etc... or understanding it was an accident and taking away most of the kids' stress and her stress. I love this idea.

Thank you! I’m so inspired by you. You keep it real. No obsession with “aesthetic”. No click bait (which is guaranteed to make many people lose trust and respect). No guilt. No pressure. No know-it-all attitude. No judgment.❤️ Just generously helpful.
Something else that helps me and my family that is really simple but makes a huge difference, is whenever I start to correct a child or disagree or feel irritated with someone, I quickly ask myself, “What’s more important, this issue, or the relationship?” Puts things into perspective fast! So easy to let it go or to be lighthearted and encouraging.

Always do what works best for you and your family. Just because decades ago someone decided that something should be done a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the correct way or that there is a correct way. Why do people care about how other people do things in their homes? As for being over scheduled, I think parents put their children in so many activities because they think they have to. Maybe friends and family will judge them if they don’t expose their children to everything in life. In my very humble opinion 😂😂😂 I think children are overscheduled these days and are suffering with anxiety more than ever before. Let our children be children because once they’re in highschool and beyond there will be little time for rest and relaxation. I think if we all could live a more simplified life and be content with what we have or at least not want as much we would be happier and healthier.

I agree! Especially with the part about kids being over-scheduled. I see kids that look so tired and worn out and I think it's because they are doing too much. I love that my kids have time to get bored and creative on their own, digging in the dirt, building Lego structures, making forts, riding bikes and so much more.

One thing that has really simplified getting ready is I just wear my clothes in order. I have "at home" clothes hanging separately from church clothes and then I just pick the next item at the start of the line. No thinking or decisions required.

Shannon, when our rugs get old or stained we put them in the garage to live out the rest of their usefulness. We live in Michigan so lots of snowy boots and wet shoes. The rugs help to prevent slips.

Simple living is so freeing. I stopped watching the news many years ago because I needed a break from the drama. I noticed that hearing about it or not, my life didn't change, so I'm not going back. Here's to living within your own community and feeling happy :)

What great video! Hopefully your followers will gain some knowledge from it. At 67 years old I can honestly say the more you get rid of the better and brighter your home feels. I had trunks of items from family members who had passed, I went through all that stuff slowly and now I have a few things from each person in a single standing curio cabinet. Freed up an entire closet and I actually get to see the things. When ever someone tells you that you have to do something a certain way, just ask them "who said". I love watching youandyour mom. Wish my daughter would do like you do.

So funny about the rug. I didn't have end tables in my living room to discourage any drinks on the sofa or rug. Now I have tables now but no coasters again to discourage drinks. Mom always says "you need to be flexible about your stuff." In my defense it's my first house where I make all the decisions.

Oh dear -- I'm chuckling no end about the eldest boy dropping the bowl of spaghetti two weeks in a row! My brothers and I used to do that sort of thing too at that age. They're clutzy then because they're growing up so fast. Not always in control of hand or foot movements.
So glad you stayed calm and did what you could to clean the rug, without buying 100 different rug cleaning products, which often have toxic chemicals. And -- the rug looks fine! Thanks for another great video, Shannon. You're on my Favorites list! (And as pretty as a young Sophia Loren.) 😊💜👍

Toward the beginning of today’s video, you showed a pretty still life picture with oranges, and I was thinking that a picture with lemons would also look nice in your kitchen to go along with your countertop colors. My children are long grown up but I now have cats who get upset tummy’s a bit and they would always be sick on the rugs. We have floor boards throughout so plenty of place they could have been sick but no always the rug. In the end rather than stressing about it I got rid of the rug because it was hard for me to clean with many artificial joint. I have never regretted it. The house is still cosy and if the cats are sick it’s easily wiped up and there is no stress. Wish I had done it when my boys were younger too.

Agree with you, mostly, about limiting news and social media. However, at this really crucial time in our political situation, I feel we need to keep up with what's happening. It's not just all about making us feel relaxed by ignoring what's happening outside of our little lives. We need to stay informed enough to make good choices at election time. We could face some very serious consequences if we don't pay sone attention!

Shannon, thank you for this video! This is exactly what I needed, I have been feeling very overwhelmed with 3 kids lately and have been wondering what I need to do to simplify. I will definitely be watching this video again and taking notes!

Thank you! Whenever I start to get overwhelmed I take a little time and think about what I can stop doing. This usually frees up a little time in my day and then I can focus on the few things that must get done.

Thank you Shannon for always inspiring me. Every time I watch your video I feel inspired to do something in my home and life. This is so much better than wasting time on less meaningful things. I've learnt so much since becoming a minimalist 2years ago. Shop my own home has become a favourite. And Decluttering as I go about my day. I get excited when seasons change to declutter seasonal clothes. I'm also inspired to get some art for my walls. Thank you ❤🇿🇦

Try the pink stuff spray on your rug! Also hydrogen peroxide helps pull up the red sauce!

Well said Shannon! Declutter your life and keep what's important. This can look differently for everyone. As we get older, we realize that the spilled spaghetti is just not worth getting upset over. It happens! I'm learning, it's not just the situation that happens, it's how we decide to handle it that's makes the difference. Thanks so much for your inspiring videos! Hi to Kathy as well!❤

What I really need to know is how you keep your plants happy. I'm desperate to have a house full of plants like you, but I can't keep them happy for very long! Maybe a video on that would be a great idea. ❤️

Through the years I have learned what plants are easy to keep alive LOL. I love pothos plants because they are so easy to keep alive. =)

    • @juliab628
      @juliab628 4 місяці тому +1

Exactly. It is impossible to kill a pothos, a philodendron, or a ficus. I stay away from dramatic plants. Also, a zanzibar plant and a clussia plant are super easy. My pickiest plant is my pilea ( chinese money plant ). Another trick to plant success is watering less over more. Overwatering is a death trap for sure. I love having plants over trendy decor that feels useless❤❤

My go-to stain cleaner is Biokleen Bac Out. Smells so good, gets stains out, and easy on the environment.

I love 409 foam carpet cleaner for spills. I also have a little green machine and use that but also use it to clean our couch and loveseat since we have pets. Helps keep smells down too!

I love the point you make about not getting kids involved in too may extra curricular activities. When my boys, both ADHD, were young, I decided one activity at a time was enough. Kids need time just to learn from their own play and creative exploration. Family time and time with grandparents is valuable. I enjoy your channel and finally subscribed!

#6 Limit extra activities- I wish more families would institute this rule - so much stress in my piano students who have so little time to themselves because they are in too many activities.
