    I agree with most of what Joshua Becker as well as you but there are 2 things I don’t agree with: We need more than one pair of scissors, there’s nothing more unnerving (actually there is but still) than not having scissors right where and when you need them. I even have 2 pair of scissors in my kitchen ! 😅 Also my long term memory has always been bad and I don’t agree that memories are within you, they’re not always ! To me memories are in photos, as long as I take photos of events and people I will be able to remember, I don’t need the object with I still need a prompt.

      Absolutely 2 pairs of scissors in the kitchen! One for food prep and the other for opening food packages.
      I have a 3rd pair on my desk and a 4th pair in the garage (I use that one to cut open birdseed bags, soil/sand bags, etc).
      I use all 4 pairs all the time.
      I think simplifying your home is a very individual and personal thing. There's no item limit that applies to everyone because everyone has different needs and lifestyles. I have 4 pairs of scissors but I have a capsule wardrobe and I've gotten rid of loads (literally truckloads lol) of clutter, and my home feels so much more peaceful now--and so much easier to keep clean!

    This week I have finally gotten around to shredding at least two years of paperwork. I usually just throw them into a fabric bin but then I don’t get to them cuz usually I just don’t feel like shredding. So, I decided to set a timer on my phone for 2 hours and all I do is shred papers. I find out I can get a whole box done in 2 hours.

      Wow 2 hours!!! Why don't you just burn it?

    • @boog.2751
      @boog.2751 3 місяці тому +4

      Great job. We are banned from burning in my area so often especially due to dryness here lately. And my special needs son likes to shred, so that's an added blessing when he helps. God bless

      @@boog.2751 I live in South Louisiana and I’m not sure if we are still doing a burn ban. My husband doesn’t want to start a fire outside in the barrel so I have to shred. It’s fine but I don’t know how much longer my shredder is going to last.

    • @micheleohmer4117

      We only shred paper with our name/address/personal info on it, otherwise we put it in a bin and when it's full, we take it to the recycling center.

    For me the Minimal Mom, Clutter bug and yourself are tops as far as getting rid of things.
    I’ve learnt so much and truely wish I had known all this yrs ago. It’s sad when you’re in your 60 and learn that is ok to let go and not the end of the world. Not saying it’s easy but my home is starting to breathe a little easier.
    Thank you 😊

    I love Joshua Becker! I so agree with all he says and you!! I don’t always comment on here, but my husband and I are both handicapped and are getting ready to downsize again. (We downsized six years ago and I got rid of tons of stuff!). Now I’m on another journey, being ruthless and, surprisingly, loving it!!

    What motivates me and my sisters is knowing one or the other is declutter (for e.g) their storeroom so it encourages the other and we send each other before pics. During etc and after. Even timelapses.
    Or if you don’t have such an option call up a friend or family member and while nattering away have a little declutter.
    Another great way is to invite someone close who won’t be judging you and have a clean up together!

    5 or 10 minutes timer is such a good start. You will find that you get started and that is half the battle as you say. I am passing on items that others will use & enjoy. Joshua Becker is very good & worth watching.

    Joshua and Ronald L Banks. Im decluttered, minimalist. One item in, one item out. Room to breathe. Even downsized sentimental stuff. Like joshua says its great to see all the things i do not need to buy. Sort of feel bad for people with shopping carts over flowing with junk.

    My hardest part is getting the stuff out of the house. I always want things to find a good home with someone who could use those things, and I hate the thought of perfectly good items going to the landfill.
    I've seen a couple of videos by Joshua Becker. Haven't read any of his books.

    • @ellie448
      @ellie448 2 місяці тому +2

      You just have to donate it and let the donate place find the best home for it. Don’t make that your responsibility. Just be more careful in the future about what you buy from this point forward so stuff doesn’t end up in the landfill. You just can’t let stuff sit in your house “as the landfill” forever. I had the same problem. Let it go. It doesn’t have to go to the “perfect place”

    • @micheleohmer4117
      @micheleohmer4117 3 місяці тому +4

      I agree, I had that problem. What helped is to either plan when to take it, just as I would going to an appointment or I put it directly in the car, so I remember to drop ot off when I am out running errands.

    • @FancyThatwithCandice
      @FancyThatwithCandice  3 місяці тому +2

      Putting it into the car immediately helped me a lot. Every time I drive by the donation center, I would stop in. It did help that I had one nearby!

      @jeanschnur5856 2 місяці тому

      Right into the car it goes for me too. Most times I forget what I’m donating by the time I drop it off. More validation I didn’t need it!😊🎉 Love your videos!!!❤❤❤❤

    I agree with the actual donation. I have truck scheduled to pick up at house but getting empty boxes. I do not shop online or from Amazon so no boxes coming every day. I have lots of glass baking dishes and cups, mugs, etc….glass is hard to get boxes and hope they make it to the center.

    Yeah. He’s part of my regular YT repertoire. 😬 My most recent thing was clearing out the basement, which was a lot of “projects” I’ll prob never do (such as being honest about how much time and energy I really have, where my current desires are and so on). Mostly it’s stuff I am well able to do, it’s just that there are too many of them. I think a lot of my clutter was tied to “potential activity” clutter..such as what all I THINK I’m gonna do or would LIKE to do vs what all I’m REALLY gonna be able to do or how hard I REALLY want to work on a thing…or not. Lol (most was related to refinishing/rehab/restoration of various wood items). Good at it. Enjoy it…but it does take a lot of time and work and decision making for each item. I guess like anything else. Limits. Such as I love cats, but I can’t save them all. Etc. Just comes down to how much of a thing I want to or am able to take on.
    Yes. I think I’m one who would be more likely to take on too much “to do” vs just having a lot of random stuff laying around….or maybe just trying to “save” too many “lost causes.” Lol. Really gets down to it tho doesn’t it? Putting a check on some of my codependent tendencies I guess. Prob doesn’t help that I know an awful lot about “trash” or “old diamonds in the rough” that can be transformed into beauty, but even if it can, doesn’t mean I have to always take it on.

    Hi, I've watched many decclutering videos. All good with great ideas. However, from listening, watching and doing it there is a great big gap. I've managed to get started, however, I feel stuck in some areas. It's not the videos, it's me. I know I need help because it's deeper than the clutter itself. Not to mention, I also need to prepare myself to get the physical help I need. I've had offers, but turned them down with an excuse because I'm not prepared to hear, you don't need this, no one wants this, it should be thrown out when I see whatever they are talking about the item is useful and someone could use it if I can only let go.
