Wow..this is an audio upgrade. I have the original show on a Betamax tape..dont have a working betamax and more. This was his finest live vocal of the 80s.
One of the best SNL episodes ever. Johnny Cash hosted and performed; Elton John at the cusp of his comeback; Eddie Murphy establishing himself as a star; Joe Piscopo did a sketch as Andy Rooney performing as Jackie Gleason. Tremendous stuff!
It’s a shame you can’t find the whole show. Remember when Johnny introduces Elton wearing some silly clothes to and glasses a salute to ej s costumes of the past. How about the Johnny cash test where the person shakes their head over Johnny to see if they have dandruff. Was a good episode.
By my estimation this is the best music video in history. I'm a long-time deadhead but there was never any denying the obvious talent of Elton John. I was in the audience for this show and have been searching. Thank you.
I've been looking for this performance for over a decade. 3:30 and on is among Dee Murray's best live performances. I remember watching this show on a bootleg tape as a kid and getting chills at the haunting bass progression that literally never shows up on any other performance of the song. Thanks for uploading this, I never would've imagined that SNL hosted this memory.
Here's the download link to the footage - mega.nz/folder/hlFRGBwa#8KYzYdJmCY3boXib3xoL0g
Thanks for this Ethan!
