I was driving from Trang through Wang Kelian checkpoint and back again some years ago. I did not have to leave the car, only showing passport, very easy and fast.
Great video 👍 i have a question.. where do we get physical drivers licence? As i asked JPJ officer the other day, he said no more physical drivers license
Hi. Based on what I found out there is still issuance of physical license. This news below is dated 4th Jan 2024: www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/01/996401/malaysians-can-now-renew-driving-licence-road-tax-myjpj-app-starting-feb Quoting from the news, it said "drivers and vehicle owners who are not yet ready during the interim digitisation period this year can still choose a physical driving licence and road tax...... the use of the security paper would begin after the existing stock of plastic card for driving licence and disk sticker road tax ran out." Maybe the JPJ officer was referring to the plastic card running out. When plastic card run out, security paper will be issued instead.
ASEAN License Holders: Drivers from ASEAN member countries (Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines) may use their domestic licenses in ASEAN Countries. But for your case I am NOT SURE it is applicable as whether it has to be your domestic driving license and whether you need to be a citizen from ASEAN countries
Iam confusing time zone of border Malaysia and Thailand. Because Malaysia and Thailand are different time zone. Like Malaysia 7PM after pass border 6pm in Thailand
Yes Malaysia and Thailand are not in the same time zone. Thailand is 1 hour behind of Malaysia. You are right that if it is 7PM in Malaysia, once you crossed the border into Thailand you need to adjust your time to 6PM.
Thanks for the explanation! 👍🙏 How long did it take to complete the border crossing procedure? O heard mix experience, some did it as quick as 30mins, but some did it like almost 3 hours. Does it depend on the time and luck? Some avoid mornings as it can be quite congested with busses, trucks, etc. We plan to stop at Alor Setar and drive early from there direct to Krabi town. And how about driving back from there to KL, any option you suggest? To stop at Hat Yai or back to Alor Setar perhaps? Thank you so much for your response. It'll be my first time as well, so I want to be well prepared. 🙏
Hi. Based on my experience it takes about 30~45mins to complete the border crossing procedures if it is not too congested. You should expect heavy traffic on weekend (Friday to Sunday). Please note that Friday is weekend holiday for Kedah. As the border crossing at Bukit Kayu Hitam, closes at 12 midnight and reopen at 6am (Malaysia time), it is common to see long queue at 6am especially on weekend (avoid early morning). I suggest to drive from KL early in the morning around 6~7am. You should reach Bukit Kayu Hitam around 1-2pm in the afternoon. You can then have lunch and get the necessary insurances sorted out at the border town. Then you proceed to cross the border. Stay a night at Danok or Hat Yai. Plenty of good places to visit in Hat Yai (and good food). The next day you can continue your drive to Krabi. Driving non stop should take you about 4~5 hours. I will do the same on the way back as it is more relaxing and can enjoy the drive better. Have fun!
I suggest you check directly with insurance agent. Try a few of them to confirm. You can find them by searching in google for "Bukit Kayu Hitam Thailand car insurance
Thanks for the info. Very helpful. May I know if we are using Malaysian car as Perodua Myvi, Can we get RON 95? Or got any specific oil. just for emergency purpose. Can suggest petrol station name.
Yes we can get RON95 in Thailand. Some station offer standard RON95 and Premium RON95. I used the cheaper Standard RON95 when I was there. You can easily find familiar name such as Shell and Esso in Thailand. I also tried brand that is only available in Thailand. They are as good.
Insurance can also be purchased at the Thai Thai Immigration office where we get the TM2 & TM3 forms for car documents right? I remembered did it there before covid when travelling to Pakbara
I was told the same but have not tried it. I prefer to do it at border town before reaching the checkpoint as I found some insurance agents quoted much more competitively than others
Hi. Thailand is temporarily suspending the need to fill out the 'To Mo 6' (TM6) immigration form for travellers entering and exiting Thailand at the Sadao Immigration Checkpoint in Songkhla starting from 1 November 2023 until 30 April 2024. That is why it is not in my video.
@@NeymusAdventure OIC. And 1 more sir. What if we enter to thailand thru bukit kayu hitam border but depart thru padang besar perlis border. It is possible ?
Hi, I have not done that before so I'm not 100% sure. Based on my understanding, it is allowed to enter and exit at different crossings. However as the regulations may change from time to time, it is best to ask and confirm with those insurance agents near the border town. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. Wish you a safe journey !
I have seen some cars in front of me with old passengers that just stayed with the driver in their cars. Their passport were stamped by the officers. I guess if there is a valid reason the officer will accommodate your needs. Have a safe trip!
Hi Thanks for the upload. i have a question. if i drive my mother's car, and she happens to be the owner of the car, however, she is now my passenger. is it ok ? since we are departed from passenger and driver . or the meeting point we can line up together @8:12
Hi I have another video titled "Guides to Driving your own car from Malaysia to Thailand (Eng)" that explain the procedures and documentation involves for Malaysian driving to Thailand. When the driver is not the owner of the car, you will need an authorization letter from the owner and a copy of owners IC. Some border checks need the letter of authorization letter to be stamped by commissioner of oath. Understand that you are travelling with the car owner but will do the driving. It is better to have the documentation in order in case of insurance claim. Insurance agent at border town may be able to give you a better explanation. Enjoy your trip!
Thank you, very informative 👍🏾 👏🏾

Hi. You need to pay THB25 for driver and THB5 for every passenger. Make sure you have some THB with you!
