I have only drove from KL to Krabi. There was no toll road up to Krabi on Thailand side. The road are of good condition. I have no idea for other destinations.

Hi I have another video titled "Guides to Driving your own car from Malaysia to Thailand (Eng)" that explain the procedures and documentation involves for Malaysian driving to Thailand. When the driver is not the owner of the car, you will need an authorization letter from the owner and a copy of owners IC. Some border checks need the letter of authorization letter to be stamped by commissioner of oath. Understand that you are travelling with the car owner but will do the driving. It is better to have the documentation in order in case of insurance claim. Insurance agent at border town may be able to give you a better explanation. Enjoy your trip!

Hi. Based on my experience it takes about 30~45mins to complete the border crossing procedures if it is not too congested. You should expect heavy traffic on weekend (Friday to Sunday). Please note that Friday is weekend holiday for Kedah. As the border crossing at Bukit Kayu Hitam, closes at 12 midnight and reopen at 6am (Malaysia time), it is common to see long queue at 6am especially on weekend (avoid early morning). I suggest to drive from KL early in the morning around 6~7am. You should reach Bukit Kayu Hitam around 1-2pm in the afternoon. You can then have lunch and get the necessary insurances sorted out at the border town. Then you proceed to cross the border. Stay a night at Danok or Hat Yai. Plenty of good places to visit in Hat Yai (and good food). The next day you can continue your drive to Krabi. Driving non stop should take you about 4~5 hours. I will do the same on the way back as it is more relaxing and can enjoy the drive better. Have fun!

Yes we can get RON95 in Thailand. Some station offer standard RON95 and Premium RON95. I used the cheaper Standard RON95 when I was there. You can easily find familiar name such as Shell and Esso in Thailand. I also tried brand that is only available in Thailand. They are as good.

I have seen some cars in front of me with old passengers that just stayed with the driver in their cars. Their passport were stamped by the officers. I guess if there is a valid reason the officer will accommodate your needs. Have a safe trip!

Hi most rental cars are not allowed to cross border. For confirmation it is better you check with the car rental company as to cross the border you need to buy insurance for the rental car and perform temporary import/export for that car to get it into Thailand. It would be easier to rent another car after you crossed Thailand. You can cross the border by taxi.

ASEAN License Holders: Drivers from ASEAN member countries (Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines) may use their domestic licenses in ASEAN Countries. But for your case I am NOT SURE it is applicable as whether it has to be your domestic driving license and whether you need to be a citizen from ASEAN countries

Hi. You need to pay THB25 for driver and THB5 for every passenger. Make sure you have some THB with you!

Yes Malaysia and Thailand are not in the same time zone. Thailand is 1 hour behind of Malaysia. You are right that if it is 7PM in Malaysia, once you crossed the border into Thailand you need to adjust your time to 6PM.

Hi. Thailand is temporarily suspending the need to fill out the 'To Mo 6' (TM6) immigration form for travellers entering and exiting Thailand at the Sadao Immigration Checkpoint in Songkhla starting from 1 November 2023 until 30 April 2024. That is why it is not in my video.

Hi, I have not done that before so I'm not 100% sure. Based on my understanding, it is allowed to enter and exit at different crossings. However as the regulations may change from time to time, it is best to ask and confirm with those insurance agents near the border town. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. No toll from hatyai to krabi and plenty petrol stations along the way. It is better to get a Thai SIM card and use waze or Google map to find your way.

This news below is dated 4th Jan 2024: www.nst.com.my/news/nation/2024/01/996401/malaysians-can-now-renew-driving-licence-road-tax-myjpj-app-starting-feb Quoting from the news, it said "drivers and vehicle owners who are not yet ready during the interim digitisation period this year can still choose a physical driving licence and road tax...... the use of the security paper would begin after the existing stock of plastic card for driving licence and disk sticker road tax ran out." Maybe the JPJ officer was referring to the plastic card running out. When plastic card run out, security paper will be issued instead.
