Good choice! Try both…For the VHRT I feel better with Inferno, I could destroy in no time big ships, however this may change to Ion when I will reach the ERT…or maybe not…for the moment if you have both just switch between…;-)
Nice video, the top gun style video is cool and all but watching someone closer to my skill level is actually refreshing. I wa just thinking - maybe the superior range on the Ion means the best plan it so shut down shields with the laser and THEN use missiles to kill faster? Just a tough.
Thanks for your message…Indeed, nice idea to start with the laser cannon and when shields are done to finish it with missiles…Will test it and see if an average pilot like me can do it…
Amazing video. Both seem amazing but I love Gatling sound and spray. Plus you can go full power to shield/boost. Restocking doesn’t bug me, I know it bugs others tho. Gun go brrrrrrr me go yurrrrrrr!
Thanks for watching…Personally I like also more the Inferno. However somebody in the comments suggested that the Ion can be used to put the shields of the enemy ship down and then finished it with the missiles…You can try that…I will definitely do.
a year or two ago the inferno had just the slightest bit of gimbal to the gun, i mean like +/- 5 degrees or less, that is waht made that ship my absoluute favorite, but when they took it away i cant use it anymore, very sad
@@valsimgames unfortunately i just had to go find the quote, at 26:00 on sc lives feb 2 he says "if you look at a ship and theres clearly a very impossibly fixed weapon on it, think inferno, think vanguard with the nose, idris with the rail gun, those will not be gimbaled", to my great sadness, inferno is no longer my boy
@@apextitangaming1277 hello, to be honest I do not know. I stopped using it when they nerfed it again…I heard that it’s OK but only against bigger targets and unfortunately I think it’s not anymore the killing machine when I did this recording…
As others have said, the Ion is better used at a longer range than the Inferno. If you can control your range and land your shots that cannon is devastating. .. It would have been a fairer comparison if you had also gotten to fight a Retaliator with the Inferno. The retaliator is one of the tankiest ships in the game and on top of that you were getting some major desynch and hardly able to land a shot. .. Having said all that I agree that the Inferno is the better choice in most circumstances although I prefer the Ion when up against Hammerheads or Idrises simply because I can stay in the fight indefinitely and don't have to worry about ammo supplies. For anything smaller the Inferno is generally the better option.
Thanks for taking the time to share this information. That’s why I have both Inferno and Ion, but have a small preference for the Inferno…the sound when using the Ballistic Gatling gun is amazing (at least for me). Having both opens possibilities even to use them one after other on the same ERT Bounty Mission if you fail with the 1st attempt. Thanks for watching !
You're not using the Ion to its full potential. Against big ships the Ion can hit from up to 4000m away. The inferno is only effective under 2500m. The Ion struggle against ships in very close range, the Inferno is better in close range. In your exemple, you're using missiles at long range and then you close up, so obviously you end up with a better result with the Inferno. Also, you should let the energy weapon recharge completely, don't fire immediately with only 10 ammo. There is a cooldown before the energy weapon recharges it's ammo, then it recharges quite fast, so you should let it recharge fully and not spam fire or you'll be wasting quite a lot of DPS.
Thanks for the tip…you mean 4km or 4000 meters? I will try it, as an average pilot anything that can help me destroy the target as quickly as possible is good to be done…
@@valsimgames Yes, try to engage from 4000m to 2500m depending on the size of your target. Don't rush in, slow down and let the target come to you while shooting at it. If you like missiles, I recommend going full Thunderbolts because EM missiles are the best right now. You can send a volley before engaging when you're at 5000m.
Thanks for watching @jsomiller44. Sorry for that but as you noticed I'm not a good pilot and I found that by rolling I can get the pip on the target easier and also avoid hits...I was always using gimbaled weapons, so when I have fixed weapons is much more difficult, but I want to test and improve. If you have any simple tips that could help me improve my piloting skills, I will be more that happy to have them and for sure will try them in game.
Great, just the video i was looking for, grabbed both and not sure wich one to keep.

@@valsimgames Aye, i love this Inferno, it just feels good af to use. I guess ill keep the Ion as a LTI token or so if they change stuff abit.

Maybe this will change (or not) with the introduction of gimbal to almost all ship with patch 3.23…Let’s hope that the Inferno will be in the list…

is the inferno still good?
