Oh my goodness, I so enjoyed putting this video together! Hopefully, you are encouraged to take steps forward in your current space. It's an ongoing process and such a labor of love, but worth every minute! Let me know what you are working on this summer to make your home feel like you are stepping back in time!
Your home should be in a featured magazine. I am so tired of grey & white farm house decor that all looks the same. You have a beautiful, unique style. It should be showcased!
Speaking of leaving some gorgeous piece behind when you move..... When my two sons were young, I took them with me thrifting, relentlessly. On one adventure I had found a huge tole chandelier with leaf motif. I brought it home, my husband installed it, and it presided over our foyer for several years. In 2016 I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and my husband was traveling extensively for work. When he would leave I would get worse so he moved us back near our parents so my mother could help me. Our home where our chandelier hung was two story and we didnt have a ladder tall enough to safely remove the chandelier, we had to leave it behind. Four years later and after beating cancer with the Lord's help, we were building our dream home on the bluff, in the forest on a mountain. All I could think about was how perfectly wonderful all those leaves would look on our dining room. I started looking to see if I could find the person who had bought our house and asked her if she would sell it. I offered her quite a bit more than I had originally paid, and my husband and I borrowed a very long ladder from a friend and went and took it down and replaced it, as a courtesy to this young woman who now owned the house with a light fixture that was more to her taste, that I had also thrifted. I am still on disbelief that we were able to buy this chandelier again, and it is hanging in my dining room now, presiding over this next chapter of our family's life.
We are very similar in what we love. I would put a germ filled bird nest in a cloche on my mantle before some tchotchkes from Target. 😂 You know? Always thrift. Always antique. I love old black and whites and old post cards and string etc. Antiques are so much richer. You used that word and it’s the perfect word! The old items have a different energy about them. It’s important. I think my soul longs for a simpler time, honestly. My mom taught me that your surroundings totally affect your frame of mind. She was so right! ❤️😊
Yes, I have an old wasp nest under a cloche with a porcelain butterfly jewelry box holding mother of pearl chips. My husband saw it the other day after it being there for a couple months, lol and said "why do you have that"? I think natural objects are beautiful.
I live in a condo and it has been my goal to make it not look like one. I love vintage and antiques and have used them in all the rooms. On the walls, in the cabinets, etc. Next is tongue and groove for my bedroom. And wallpaper!
I love LOVE this video! And, I need to add my name to the waitlist for the retreat you do next year. Thank you for the peace, beautiful video. It blessed my souls after such a rough week of sorrow.
Thank you Sara for sharing with us your insights into creating a heartwarming home, vintage is so satisfying to my soul. I love French decor and have curated a home that makes me happy. Since my home is small, I always after finding new treasures, find items that need to move on to another treasure hunter, I have enjoyed the piece but have found an upgrade. I do get the his question often, “I love this piece, it speaks to me, but it is not the style/era I am collecting, what do I do?” If you love the piece, it will always work in your home because it represents you love of creating a beautiful environment. Thanks Sara, have a lovely weekend.❤️❤️
One of the most beautiful homes I have been to in my life was a very small two bedroom, one bath home with white painted exterior wood or asbestos siding. This was in the early 1970s. The teenager's bedroom was painted a very soft pastel pink, the shears and bedspread were gathered soft pastel pink and were the same shade as the walls. The room was uncluttered with a couple of throw pillows on the bed. I wanted my bedroom to look like that room. I was a young child and asked my father to paint my bedroom pink! He bought pink paint the same shade as Pepto-Bismol and painted the walls! It was so pink!
Your advice on decorating is simplified with adding the right touch to groupings with different elements. All your rooms are beautifully decorated and I always comment on your bathroom, (😊) it’s perfect. Surrounded by nature, antiques and other objects makes it so charming. Thanks for saring your story. ❤🪴📚🕯️
I need to say I have been introducing more of the vintage look I have plastered walls with beautiful coves, ornate wood trim, 0ld pictures, Bronze and touches gold and brass loving baskets vintage woods, and bookends. I think it’s looking on the European side. I decorate with things that tell a story of who I am. Love what I have things Passed down from grandparents found treasures along the way. You have helped me put it altogether here and there. Love your channel your soft voice and you are a treasure to behold.❤️🙏🌹@@SheHoldsDearly
I love old books, but my personal bar is I need to have read it, or want to read it!! In a small space, I have limited myself to 12 linear yards of books, which equates to 2 tall bookcases. I can pull individual books for styling throughout the year.
Did I enjoy this video, does a bear sleep in the woods?!!! Every minute was cozy and comfortable. I try to use items that I love, many from my Grandmother and Mother in law. I said before in a comment that I feel very nostalgic watching your videos. Thank you so much for your lovely content. God bless you always. 😊
Adding that piece on the ceiling is beautiful, because the house and its architecture is beautiful It would not look right in a suburban square box of a room with 8 foot ceilings. I do try to make my space fell curated over time. Love tarnished silver, old brass, vintage books, art, mixing patterns , textiles. Lots of little things that make a home cozy feeling.
Your videos are always so good and enjoyable and helpful, but this one I LOVE! So so helpful and I love seeing the details all put together. Thank you for your time of putting this together. Slowly working on my home to be like this. I am in love with antiques and home decor from the early 1900’s
Just a little edit needed: No. 4 Antique Furniture... a misspell on Antique! You have an R instead of a T! Lovely video! I would also add family photos in black and white, from old photo albums (grandparents, their parents, their old farms...etc.)
Hi, Sarah. Absolutely beautiful styling and visuals in this video. One of the things I like most about your work is that you show styling in a way that gives ideas no matter what one’s décor preference is. Creating moments. Yes, so lovely.
You have a beautiful curated home 🏠 love all your vintage decor ideas and architectural designs in each room ❤️ You are such an inspiration…always enjoy your videos !
Sometimes, I see pictures of the Mayhurst or glimpses in your videos, like today, and I still can’t even believe I’ve actually been inside and walked those historic rooms…touched a banister that a long-ago family touched…looked out of windows that infantry used while commandeering the Mayhurst during war time. The Bespoke Experience was just so surreal. Dreamy. I even got stung by a fancy little Mayhurst bee! I imagine it has its own silver tea set back at the hive somewhere on the grounds. 🐝🫖 These are wonderful reminders to decorate joyfully. As always, you inspire us. Like you said, “even Ma Ingalls” and I love that analogy! My most recent addition was a pair a French inspired ladderback chairs with rush seats, as well, alabaster grapes…which I’ve been on the hunt for ever since I found the onyx horse head book ends on Antiquing Day while attending Bespoke!
We’ve always lived in the Southwest. Although it’s not vogue, I find myself decorating different themed rooms with second hand items. I guess I can’t be put in a box. 😂
We live in an 1800 cottage on a farm and I personally love the cottage look, so our home is period as much as I can have it. We are putting in a new kitchen floor as the old was extremely worn and have chosen a wood look vinyl for reasons only a person on a farm might think about. A lot of wear and tear on these floors. I have found over the years I pretty much stay with the colors I love the best and sprinkle in some other colors in specific areas to break up the neutral colors I keep year round. I’m enjoying the real look of woods in my furniture and decor right now. Wicker in the darker shades has caught my attention for fall. Using baskets for doors and even walls. Your ideas give me such inspiration! ❤
I completely believe you can make the inside of your hour feel like you. I have a log cabin but love my interior vintage with a bit of glam. I call it rustic glam.
The perfect way to think of decorating in any era…what would have been important to people at that time? What would they have surrounding them? To me, your words switched around my mindset. I’m not searching for decor, I’m just trying to outfit my home. Thank you.
I love these kind of videos, I say, "oh yes, I have done that", and "oh I need to do tbat." You didn't mention carpet, and I know you use them. We are blessed to have wood floor in our 1940's Colonial, and I have found some good deals on marketplace. They really set a tone in the room.

My home was built in 1900 but was stripped to the studs and redone (character was stripped too). Recently we’ve been adding millwork that I see in Victorian mansion museums in my area. I’ve also invested in legit vintage oil paintings in vintage frames. Ps, I have that wallpaper that’s in the Lincoln room in my laundry room
Really enjoyed this video - made me want to go thrifting! One of my favorite finds is an antique, English copper kettle. It adds a lot of cozy. I enjoy using it and the atmosphere it creates.
As always, Sarah, it’s a joy to watch your videos. I loved revisiting your home-the living room and the bathroom are so beautiful-and that gorgeous mansion! Have you ever considered recording or live-streaming your workshops for a fee?
@@SheHoldsDearly I was interested because my disabled son is living with me now and traveling for any length of time is difficult. All of my close family members have passed. My area of New England is famously unfriendly and the churches are really dead, so I have no one that could be there for him. I was just dreaming of being able to enter in your retreat without the worry of leaving him alone. With your every success I do imagine that interest will grow!
I would so love for you to do a video on cookie cutter houses and ways we could style them. I have the hardest time decorating mine because i love farmhouse but it doesn’t match the style of my home. Any suggestions would be appreciated.😜💖
Exteriors: We have a gas lantern on the front of our house which is always burning. It adds so much warmth , soft flickering light and charm. So if you have a way to install a gaslight , they can very inviting. Wisteria vines , ivy, boxwoods, geraniums, inpatients, old variety of roses, and ferns all grow well here in Virginia. I also like iron gates, old brick , wicker furniture , bird houses, sundials, bird baths, small fountains and little fish or frog ponds . 🐸
Never really followed trends & have always bought what I love so my home has that old world chic vibe that's so popular now. My problem is I'm having to downsize & that probably means an apartment. I'm not sure how to go abt decorating a "standard apartment" & still make it feel like a real home & not spend a lot. Plus most places don't allow for certain changes. Thoughts?!
So beautiful and inspiring 💞Just wonder if you have separate a video of the sitting bench with the window in your living room. Did you make that yourself? Thank you 😊💞
What an intriguing video! I recently bought a condo built in 1913 so this video is such an inspiration. Two questions: I want to add a wallpaper mural in my foyer similar to the one you have. Where’s the best place to order them from? Secondly, I’m trying to figure out how to deal with the corners so the scene is continuous. Any advice? Where did you find the leather recliners? I love them. Thanks!
Thank you! Your mural idea sounds like my bathroom. Here is the video and sources ua-cam.com/video/4YfNyz2ggyo/v-deo.htmlsi=x1mXGSO4MQId1QuH The recliners are from Overstock, but they are discontinued. :(
I adore you and your decor aesthetic! Quick question, I love and have many vintage baskets (all sizes). Some of my thrifted ones have beautiful antique look and form but ugly modern yelllowish stain color. Should I white wash them or stain them with mix dark gel stains for a true vintage look? I notice you don't use many white washed baskets in your decor. What would you do??
I'd love to see ideas of how to work in taxidermy to cottage, Victorian and European style. My husband hunts and we have two bucks, a bear, two ducks, a pheasant and turkey tails. I have trouble working them in. I feel like the taxidermy usually looks like cabin decor then my stuff is victorian/cottage and I'd like them to blend better. Surprisingly I haven't found many ideas on pinterest.
I wish I lived in an area where the FB marketplace was decent. If I find an antique that needs a lot of work they will charge 10x what it is worth. Mostly, what we get are bedbug covered bedding or stuff that came out of the garbage that people are trying to hustle as new for drug money. Why oh why can't we have antique tables for $150?!?!!? Ours would be $1000.
Good Morning! I know you probably have your Bible Study all planned out, but if you are ever looking for a life changing "Gospel Gorgeous" lesson, Kristi McLelland's "Jesus and Women in the 1st Century and Now was a life altering, mind blowing, made Jesus so much more than ever to me experience that I can not recommend it enough. 😊
Totally valid if you are uninterested in her religion and have no desire to have it mixed with interior design. She Holds Dearly has always made it clear her heart for decorating stems from the God she serves being a lover of beauty and she should be totally free to share that without being accused of not being welcoming. Like I said, if you're not into the religious side of things that's totally valid and you have every right to leave, but please don't accuse such an obviously gracious woman of being unwelcoming.

❤Antique frames for prints. Antique gold leaf frames have a patina that new ones can’t match. They dress up a room and add to that European feel.

I don’t know if you mentioned rugs… mirrors . Except for my kitchen, I have a mirror in every one of my rooms and in the hallway.
Yes! Such great additions to our list!
I really appreciate this video. Thank you! Could you tell me the color of paint on the walls and door in your living room please?
Thank you, Jennifer. Its called "Slate Tile" by Sherwin Williams
I would try a gel stain or this technique sheholdsdearly.com/brass-to-faux-raw-wood-chandelier-makeover/
@@SheHoldsDearly I just watched it and I will definitely try this. THANK YOU!
I have hides hung, and we have a deer beside the fireplace. I love the academia of it!
Search for dark or light academia on Pinterest, taxidermy looks fabulous in both of these styles!

Thank you for watching!! 🤍🤍

I do have everything written for this year, but I will totally look into this recommendation for next year! Thank you!
I'm sorry but I'm going to have to unsubscribe. I don't feel welcome where home design is merged with a specific religion.
♥ You're always welcome if you'd like to stop back by.
