I’m so pleased our paths have crossed! Thank you, thank you for watching and subscribing, your enthusiasm is contagious. Let me know in the comments below your video requests for future inspiration, I would love to accommodate!
sheholdsdearly...
Come on over, my dears! I’m ready to show you the fireside room that we have been working on all year! This will also help you understand how to style a room that is a glorified hallway.
Sarah, I absolutely LOVE what you have created!!! It’s beautiful and so inspiring. I agree with your husband! I would love to just sit and sip tea, read a book in your beautiful space!! Thanks for sharing 🥰
I so enjoyed this! Everything you added looks awesome! If your son used the band saw and cut the table for you himself, I would cherish that forever! Great job!
You are so right, I love this perspective! Thank you!!!
That was one of your best videos, not just the content, but your cute humorous personality really came through ❤️
Hi! Your profile picture is very cute! I Just decided to stop by and say hi. I hope my compliment is appreciated...
Me opening containers every single day!!!
Funny story. I have the same ruggable as a hallway rug. I have had it a while. Just yesterday our adult daughter was visiting. Her shoes were off. She told me the rug felt like silk!
We have a walk through room, it used to be a dining room. The previous owners enclosed a porch and gave us a beautiful sun room which holds our dining table, and created this walk through situation.
We extended our kitchen into the awkward space, simply with furniture. The smaller wall area holds our spinet piano. We love that since it keeps all music in the center of our home and living space.
I love your imperfectly perfect table top. It coordinates with the imperfect shape of the hearth across the room. And when James eventually moves out you will still have the table top he cut for you in shop class. It will always be a reminder of him. I think adding antiques and thrifted item are not supposed to be perfect just add character. Stay Safe and Have a Blessed Week.
You read my mind exactly
Someday that tabletop will be a precious memory every time you use it.
As soon as I saw you washing that cast iron base I was like , Oooooh, she’s going to be sorrrrry! NEVER wet cast iron. If it gets wet dry it and put it in heat to make SURE it’s dry. To get rid of rust, use a wire brush and some Naval Jelly. Works every time. Good luck.
What is naval jelly? Currently dealing with this issue, but living overseas. Thanks!
I thought the same thing! I hadn't heard about naval jelly but was thinking oil since that's what I use on my cast iron cookware although it would probably get on the rug.
Its painted water doesn't matter.
Oh, its not painted, it looked so shiny, I thought it was painted.
I haven't heard of naval jelly since I was a kid. Do they still make that stuff? My dad used it, not sure what for but he was a mechanic...maybe on his tools?
I think now the table has a story to tell and will be passed down one day. Sometimes perfection is what makes the piece perfect with the few flaws. Oh, the love of a son to cut that for his mom. Please never change it. That is what a home is. Stories and perfect imperfections. Love marks and love dents, Love scratches and whoops. It like the awe moment in a movie but it is real life. Touches the heart and gives a memory. Peace!
This is exactly how good decorating is! A kernel of an ideal, hard work, trial and error plus preservation! It's beautiful and comfy!
Thank you!
*Great Outcome to an Awkward Space* . In this video you demonstrated persistence, trial and error, vision and execution. It all takes time. You've created a lovely sitting space for year round enjoyment.
Thank you!
I love the “ruggedness” of the table!
Thank you for being so real! Sometimes this is exactly what happens at my house. I find decorating for others much easier. Lol I guess I am aware that millions of options exist.....and I'm really picky, beautiful room!
You made my heart smile Sarah, as always....
....This has to be one of my favourite episodes. ....So many things look like " it's supposed to be there" ... I don't comment often, even though I'm subscribed ( was led to your Channel by Pine and Prospect Home, I adore her Channel) and thank you for taking us on your quests and adventures. Lol.
I am a big fan of recliners as long as they don't look like a recliner and you know what I'm talking about so those actually look wonderful my recliners gave out so yes I am on the search for a few and of course a matching pair and when I saw yours I thought ...." hmmmm I may have to get those..." ,lol.
And what a nice thing to have that table cut ,your son doing that... what a cherished memory and to know that he did that ....that is just so neat. Good job , he should feel a sense of accomplishment. ...even if not " perfect " it's a wonderful thing.
That lamp. Love love love.
I change my rooms up quite often, and I move my furniture around , I move my Decor around ... I just think that you know sometimes you have to do that in order to get the look that you actually are comfortable with and that you're feeling as soon as you walk into the room.... You say - and feel - " Yes, ... this is this is what I was aiming for.... " 😊🙂✨️💛🍂🍁🧡
Thank you for this Inspiration and the way you filmed it.
It looks like “light academia” style, which I ❤️ love 💕 !
Sarah - it is so so pretty!!! I love it! What a journey this 'room' has led you on! Lovely to finally reach a happy destination!
Sarah I think this was my favorite video I've watched from you. Love that your son cut the table in class! Imperfect is perfect in this case (IMHO) 👍🏻. I created gallery walls my my powder room (even added a printers tray) after seeing your home and I smile every time I walk in. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Love that, Brenda! Thank you for sharing! :)
Hi! Your profile picture is very cute! I Just decided to stop by and say hi. I hope my compliment is appreciated...
I love everything about this - the cat slap, the struggles, the orange polka dot dress. Perfect 👍
Thank you! :)
Sarah, I love the length of this video! It's like we are on the journey with you! Thanks for taking us along!
Watching these older videos. I love your style . ❤Old houses are so much fun but they do have some quirky features. Mine sure does, lots of space that’s not useable because of random doors ( off living room) , un balanced on the wall, etc. but so much fun
Wow, that looks great! A great spot for a cuppa, maybe a snack, and either a good conversation or a good book!
I think so too!
Every design decision you made in this room is *chefs kiss* The table proportion and shape is so perfect for the space. Love, love love!!!
Thank you Julie!
This may have been my favorite episode. Persevere is the word. It all looks so charming.
Thank you, Deborah!
The third table is definitely the best choice.
I think the table came out great. I love the imperfect shape. The whole room looks gorgeous.
Thanks so much! 😊
Goodness! Each space is curated with such a thoughtful, charming and cozy flair. It draws you in. I'm sure to see it in person would be even more so!
Ok loved this!! Love love the table! And the fact that your don cut it down is even better! It just adds to the family history now of that piece. It looks brilliant!!!
I am so glad that someone else has problems redoing things too! I hate those push down and turn lids! I have gone round and round with those lids.
Love the table…it’s imperfections add an antique quality that it wouldn’t have otherwise!! It’s also a sweet reminder of your son…such a treasure!! It’s perfect!! Your fireside room is beautiful and cozy!!
Sarah, I Love your staircase.🤍 Your eye for decor is ✨👏🏻
Your vision for the room turned out very well.
Omw, love and enjoy so very much! You made me laugh when you couldn't get the bottle open, hahaha! Your tenacity paid off with the table. We would have given up a long time ago. I have considered making my own ruggable. On board? Hugs
Rust Restore or any rust converter spray paint is sold by all major brands: Krylon, Rust-oleum, etc. and is easy to use. I leave as is for a matte look, sometimes. Don’t let rusty items sit outside when damp- dry and bring in overnight. Inside I’ll dry and oil metal items if not painting or finishing.
For the table, send it back to “ Woidshop” not Construction class. I’d paint that top black after shellacking. Then ask woodshop to make a thick wood top, or salvage one to leave wood tone.
You made it work beautifully. Kudos!
I just finished a 10 piece patio, lots of rust, I sanded each piece well with a 80 grit and then 150, painted with Rust-Oleum 2x flat paint and primer in black two coats, everyone said it looks like new. I use it all the time great results.
Excellent point about walk ways. In my experience you really need to think about walkways first in every room. This was thoughtfully done. thank you :)
And that skirt and matching heels!!
I agree one day you will look back and be so happy to have a table to remind you of a son who loves his mother and wanted to please her! You scored on the alabaster lamp too!! Not so much on the copper pot but hey I’ve been there too! Enjoy your channel!! Ps I love the recliners!!!!
So true!
I love your channel. You make me laugh... you're so down to earth and real. I can't get caps off either...lol. Thank you!!!!
That area turned out so cozy and welcoming
Hi! Your profile picture is very cute! I Just decided to stop by and say hi. I hope my compliment is appreciated...
Oh Sarah! This is marvelous! I hope (and pray) your husband loves it as well! Thanks also for sharing with us the struggles along the way to make your dreams a reality! All of life is really that way anyway!! Love you!
I absolutely love it all . love The little lamb on your table , it is sooooo sweet. It is all darling. Love it all .❤❤❤
Absolutely love the fireside room it is perfect, the shutters, the wallpaper, picture collages in both areas brings warmth and those recliners give a nice bit of a regal vibe perfect cottage look.P.S. and let’s not forget the rug, GREAT JOB…….
Thank you!
Love this room, so beautiful. Now I want an alabaster lamp...lol. Kidding not kidding.
Best of luck on your search! They're so beautiful!
I absolutely love how everything looks!! I love the table and the art work on your walls is dreamy. I bought the recliners right after I watched your video using shoe polish to age them. My husband put the casters on but I haven't tried the shoe polish yet....I bought the 2 colors you suggested but haven't gotten around to it. My husband has never had a recliner but he loves them and it makes my heart happy to see him actually sit down. He's such a hard worker and he deserves to relax. Thank you for such inspirational videos.
In the Victorian home I grew up in, we called the room the reception hall.It contained a settee, an antique school desk, an organ , and a hutch full of good dishes etc,. There was a double door entry to the living room , a stair way, and a doorway to the hall.
Love that name, sounds so regal!
So pretty! And all of your decor is well curated...you have much more patience than me. Lol!
It's always so worth it, Diana!
I loved seeing all the different iterations up to this point! I think you nailed it with this one!
Love how everything looks. Hate those push and turn bottles. (Or am I just getting old?ugh). The English cottage look…spot on!! Your home makes me want to make a cup of tea and snuggle up in one of the chairs.
Thanks for sharing the process of your creating such a cozy space.
You're so welcome!
Absolutely gorgeous!! I love how the space turned out, and beautiful editing on this video. I loved the vlog style of this video and felt like we really got to go along with you on your journey decorating it 😊
Glad you liked it!!
I love when you show us the full process!! Very nice room!!
Thanks so much! 😊
You've created a very lovely and practical space. I like the cognac leather plus the copper; the cast iron burner with the table pedestal of the same; and the blue and white carpet with the similarly-colored tableware on the shelf.
Thank you, Gina!
LOVE, the look of the space. The big comfy chairs, the table, lamp, pillows and blanket make it looks so cozy!
New your channel from Canterbury Cottage, I really like how you take thrifted and DIY 's and designed them today to make a beautiful home.
Very impressed!
Thanks so much! 😊
You and that table. So funny. The room turned out beautiful.
Thanks so much! 😊
My favorite video so far. Love seeing the glimpses of your family.
Thank you for sharing that this doesn't just happen overnight. But really, where would the fun be in that. I very much enjoyed this post.❣
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sarah, Thank you for sharing the challenges you experience when you decorate. It makes me feel hopeful when I encounter those myself!
You are so welcome!
I have two alabaster lamps, my husband rewired them for me! Also one with green veins, all thrifted. Your fireside room came out gorgeous!!
That is awesome!
Looks great! Don’t let the imperfect edge of the table bother you, it makes it that much more special 🥰
So true!
I love that you are working outside, sanding, hosing & stripping in a polka dot dress lol! I love your aesthetic & creativity. You made me laugh & the room looks perfectly curated & fresh! Nice work!😊
And the earlier red skirt and heels and apron! ♥️☺️
Right?! I'm like a poster child for the hot mess express when I'm working around the house! I will never not be amazed by Sarah! Lol
I love the rough edge on the table👍
That table looks perfect to me 💖
Haven’t watched your video yet, but I discovered your channel by searching for a different topic and have been going through videos, really enjoying it. Just watched the video you did a year ago about the name of your channel, and it made me cry. It was so encouraging. Reminds me of a Sarah Groves song from years back when she sings about the beauty of the beauty… how it matters (from her song “Why It Matters”). Very encouraging. Thanks! So glad to have discovered you.
Glad to have you here! :)
Looks Great. What a nice sitting area to sip a cup of coffee or just read a book in the coming Winter. Sometime you just have to try things till you hit the right mix.
So true!
OMG my favorite is the alabaster lamp !!! Beautiful room as usual !
I always enjoy my time spent with you. Your ideas helpful hints and suggestions help me to create a cozy well balanced room..., which I never knew how to achieve.
I love your style, all the things you fill your home with. I see the Salvage Store is mighty handy when looking for that perfect vintage feel. I enjoy every minute you spend in there I sure love your commentary your sense of humor is the best. Thank you for your charming content!
Thank you for the sweet words, Lynn! Glad to have you here!
I love the table and the rustic top! Thank you for all the awesome decorating tips.
You are so welcome!
The room is so cozy and time appropriate. The new rug is beautiful.
I just love you! It is a shame you do not live near me because I have all the things you need for your home in my Barns.. I have been collecting my entire life I have tons of China, copper, all paintings well you name it I have it. Also marbleizing is very easy to do I highly suggest you try it sometime. I did all of my countertops in my kitchen years ago and they have held up very well. Opening the bottle was a hoot! I can so relate! Love your channel!
Your fireside room turned out beautiful! I love the table, lamp, the chairs...well everything! I'm glad you show real life...problems with the rusty table, not getting the bottle open (lol...happens to me as well), damaged pot. I loved your longer video...keep up the great decorating content.
That lamp is gorgeous!
Ohhhh how enchanting!!!!! Just so incredibly welcoming, I love your videos, thank you ever so much for sharing!!!
You are so welcome!
Happy birthday!! I really love this setup, I've seen the videos when you had the others and always liked them but this!! I love it!! That table is super cool, I struggle to work in cast iron but I do love it so much! Props to your husband for the wallpaper, it looks amazing!
Thank you so much!!
I love all of your videos but I think this has been one of my favorite videos. I laughed so hard when you said, "$400 or $40. Gee let me think". That is so me. We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel. I've always wanted a Viking range. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THOSE THINGS COST!!! Well I didn't until now. I've decided to stay with my original 30" gas range. This way I'm not losing several upper and lower cabinets. It's was a no brainer because I don't really like to cook THAT much. I am getting a pot filler over my stove and getting rid of the over-the-range microwave so I can replace it with a nice pretty wooden vent hood. Your space turned out beautifully. Oh and that table that James cut for you is perfect. That is something you will cherish forever! My son, James, made a quilt rack for me in his shop class years ago. I use it in my living room to hang throws on. I love it!
Great decision, Marian! I hope you love your new space, and I love that your son made you a cherished quilt rack!
That sounds perfect with the shutters because you could always frame them to make them fit 😍
I guess I should of watch longer before I wrote 👍
Beautiful ! Thanks for explaining about the placement of items diagonally, great tip ;)
Glad it was helpful!
I used to use what they called Naval Jelly for rust. I’m not sure they still make it. It worked great on rust. I love Ruggable!
I've been seeing this same suggestion! I'll have to try it next time!
Oh, it all looks great!!! And that lamp is so beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
It’s so cozy and beautiful! Enjoyed the new style of this video and laughed with you at the all too real frustrating moments of DIY. I think the rough edge of the restaurant table is charming and could stay! But of course will be happy to see its journey going forward. Sending lots of love 🤍🙏🏼🤍
Thank you so much, Erin! ♥
Love that table so much!
Oh my. Absolutely love how this room turned out. Cozy and functional. I am seriously thinking about those recliners. We, too, had the fabric wingchair recliners and I loved them. However, we live in hot Florida and also had a cat that loved the chairs too much. She was part Siamese and had an oily coat. Anyway, I hated that we always had sheets on those chairs, finally took them off, regretted that, and was not going to tackle slipcovers. These chairs would be perfect. Thank you, Sara, for showing how to put together a beautiful room and most importantly, that designers also struggle. Gives the rest of us some hope.
I'm sorry to each there own but skirt and heels ? No way I could do that you go girl ! Love the gallery wall! Love the table cut perfectly unperfect.
This was great! I was in your class for a year so I know the history of the room. I love the restaurant side table. Personally, I think a faux finish on the side table would be less authentic and lose something. I’d say cut and polish the natural wood. - ha ha you can see I commented before the video finished. I love the copper on the hearth area!! Lovely room
Thank you, Claire! :)
I really liked the little transitions you created from night to day in this video they were cute haha
Thank you!
I LOVE this room! It makes me just want to be there. Good work.
Glad you like it!
Love it!! What a cozy room. Was a little frustrated with YpuTube during this because of the excessive ads but otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed your video, so many great ideas. Such a lucky girl to have a hubby willing to do those things for you, getting mine to do those things is like going through a root canal!!! LOL!!
That's the only problem with this longer format video - more ads from UA-cam. But I appreciate you sticking it out, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Every detail is perfect!!!!!🧡🍁🍂🤎
Yes also love that you cut the table top! Awesome
Thank you! 😊
Your fireside room looks so lovely. I like your style. Blessings.
Thank you so much!
Happy Belated Birthday! Loved this video! From the difficulties of opening the bottle to a dented copper pot, your vision persevered. I think the table top is charming & unique. Nice job by your son. This is what real life looks like.
Thanks so much!
I love everything you have done in this room. You took an awkward room and made it warm and comfy. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome!
Girl it looks so good, there isn’t one thing I don’t love 🤗💕🍁
Thank you! Such a nice compliment!
Looks very English Cottage,Beautiful.
Your pot damaged in shipping, I'll say! What the heck, was it sent in a bubble mailer or did the mail truck run over it? I can't believe you straightened that out so nicely. Way to go. I live near Seattle and now I want to go to that salvage yard, so fun!
Thank you! Earthwise has a second Seattle location!
Sarah, I am such a fan! Keep doing what you do.
Thank you! Will do!
Absolutely love the lamp! It’s gorgeous! And the little lamb on the stack of books. A lovely outcome
Just loved this video! You do a great job of just being real! A gift!
Thank you!
It turned out so pretty! I like the new vlog format!
Yay! Thank you!
I love English cottage, just changed my dining and living room to the that decor, you achieved that look very well. The trick it seems is either to accumulate furnishings ,art and accessories over the years or thrift shop and shop the house like you did. Your room looks charming . Great job.Hugs🫂💜🦋
Absolutely beautiful and cozy! It was interesting to see all the different things you tried, and also to hear your thought process. Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sarah I so loved this video. You always inspire me to want to make my spaces more calming and beautiful!!!!! Thanks again🥰
I'm so glad!
Everything is so perfect and beautiful, what a journey. I love it when an idea comes together!
I love the book case the most with the tureens and I see some are Pfaltzgraff Heritage collection which I have as well.
I wrestle with editing them, you have given me inspiration!😊
