They closed for 4 days back in March to redo the place a bit. New carpet, got rid of a few things, added a few new things, etc. In 30 years they'd only been closed 2 days. One was for Marvin's funeral (1-12-17) and one day was for a power outage. I was his first employee when it opened. I go back there a lot to visit and also did a video or two about it on my channel. Marvin was a great man and a very unique character. If you ever come back to town let me know and I'll show you all the things that Marvin loved there and some backstory on it. .... I'll let the know the cobra is broken. HA!
Even after going there for 30 years I still see things that I didn't notice before from the pinball ceiling in the entrance way to the posters over the main counter. As you may know, Marvin was a pharmacist by day and did this when he wasn't doing that. He loved making people smile. You can see him in your video the first time you were there. If you are still in town check out the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. The museum has the chair Lincoln was shot in, Rosa Park's bus, etc. It's an amazing place that you could wander around for an entire day.
I went here a long time ago, and then I moved to the south. It looked so familiar, so I asked my dad and he said that he used to take me and my sister her all the time. It was like a Ripleys Antique Arcade!
I can just imagine everyone watching your vid and screaming at your last box selection during tic-tac-toe, I mean who would pick that square, you're a monster!

Not sure what you mean by this comment but the majority of attractions in this place are extremely rare and extremely valuable. This place has an inventory worth 10’s of millions of dollars. I’m sure it smells great in there.
Cabaret Mechanical Theater is not the same type of Venue at all. Yes one of a kind automations but not the same type of off road shop. Marvins is 1 of a kind.
I forgot about this place--3 trials of terror was one of my favorite pieces here! I'm glad you got to do it and showed it, thanks for the memories! :-) 09:07
Yup. Little bit of background on this: The name "Tally Hall" is based off of a real place called Tally Hall in a similar area in Michigan. I guess it was some kind of food court, but really to me it just seemed like some sort of mall with a ton of shops/stores in it. The only "shop" left that's still standing today is Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, which now has its own standalone building. Tally Hall named their first album after this place in tribute of the original Tally Hall. Also, watching this video should give you a bit more background on some of their songs, specifically "Welcome to Tally Hall". Lines like "We're a marionette quintet" make a lot more sense after you visit this place.
I had the pleasure of being able to go to this place growing up and being able to enjoy it even more as an adult. I'm glad you chose this spot on your trip to Michigan! Hope you come back soon!
Okay, I think this is my most favorite places you visited. I was sad when it was over. You need a video of playing all the arcade games. OMG so many from my childhood!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this! I love animatronics like these but haven't seen any in decades. I can't travel due to illness and disabilities but this was just like visiting the place myself. Absolutely fantastic, thank you so much for sharing ☺
It was very sad when I heard marvin had passed. It didn't feel long since I last spoke to him. Very knowledgeable and charged essentially nothing for coins to show off the collection (with deals that they ran you could actually leave the place with MORE money than you came in with if you didn't use all the coins) . After that, they seemed to be hemorrhaging machines, with ones I remember being there disappearing. I think a family member is running it now and I wonder if they just dont have the same connections to get the things fixed like marvin did if they ever break. It is interesting that they have a few japanese rhythm games that are usually only at places like Round1 though, as those are always good fun.
Agreed. The og Playland location was before my time, I 1st encountered M.M. @ it's Ocean Beach Cliff House basement locale, then later @ it's current Pier 45 Fisherman's Wharf home. Crowded & loud, u never know which arcade attractions will be out-of-service on any given day, as they require constant maintenance, yet still well worth the trip. M.M. features some fantastically dated & obscure games, "movies," & mechanical marvels.
I was on a Tales From The Crypt binge and then I saw this video pop up and I clicked on it out of curiosity. I forgot that I was no longer watching Tales From The Crypt 6 minutes in.
The three birds are called the Warblettes, and pig I am pretty sure is a opera singing pig that I can't remember the name of, but she was part of a "Special Guest" series at Pizza Time Theatre which included a country singing coyote, and and a disco singing skunk named Sally Skunk. Edit: Actually, the pig didn't sing any genre of music, just HOGGED the spotlight and told joke and things like that. Her name was Madame Oink. The skunk was Sally Sashé and she did sing disco. The coyote was named Harmony Howlet. Also, the Warblettes went extinct for 1 year, and were replaced by three singing girls called the Mopsey Sisters. To anyone who wasted a small part of their time to read this out of curiosity, have a great day ❤
I freaking love, love, love this place!! Thank you so much, Mr. Carpetbagger, for the greatest coverage! Bucket list for sure!! Thanks again for another AweSoMe video!!! Always a fan right here!!!
This place reminds me of a place we had in Dallas from 1978 to 2013. It was a 1920s themed pizza place called Crystals Pizza. It had a cartoon theatre set up like a 20s theatre, a main eating area with 20s decor, arcades, live entertainment on Saturdays and a coin op mechanical fortune teller. Sadly it closed in 2013 due to the new owner not keeping the place up. About 6 months ago it was finally torn down. Happy memories and I was sad to see it go.
Back in the 60's Marvin also owned a drug store and my Aunt worked for him. We stopped in to see Marvin before he passed but was not at the museum. It's a fantastic place to visit.

I see here a few things I missed, or maybe some are not there anymore. There's so much, it would be easy to miss a few things. Love your channel! Thanks for all the props to this one of a kind place.
About the Chuck E Cheese animatronics, the chicken is Helen, the pig is Madame Oink and the 3 birds are the Warblettes. Oh, and if you’re ever in Michigan again there’s this place called Huckleberry Junction near Flint and they have a rare Daniel And The Dixie Digger’s animatronic band in amazing shape, they’re pretty neat.
these should be way less than 50 cents. I have to say I love the marriage machine, "press 1 for straight, 2 for gay, 3 for lesbian, 4 for best friends." Hilarious!
My older cousin used to work there! She would take me there regularly when I visited Michigan for family. When I was younger, she would sometimes unlock some of the games so I could get a little stuffed animal. It's a great place to visit!!
The vomiting machine was completely different! Never thought I would see something like that! These were all cool though.
haha Ikr that was pretty gross what did that dude on the table do before him ? just breathing ?
Rachael K I think that was a very old one so it was pretty basic. The early days of animatronics I guess.
That one was a trip. I filmed it when i was there.
That laughing sailor... Nightmare fuel!
