  • In today's Florida Food Forest video were chopping and dropping the Mexican sunflower.
Mexican sunflower (Tithonia rotundifolia) Compost and mulch - The fast growing plants produce lots of green material that can be cut back during the growing season to add to the compost pile. The chopped leaves and stems can also be used as a nutritious mulch around other plants

Love to chop and drop it, but I also leave some alone to flower…the bees absolutely go crazy for them

I've never grown Mexican sunflower 🌻. Looks like a great multi-use plant. Good to see your lemondrop making its way back.

I was going to do mine this week too. I hope that you will begin to feel better very soon after your heart surgery.

I appreciate that. every day is a bit better, it's just some days I am sapped of all energy. I force myself to work tough.

@@Floridafoodforest. I understand. I had covid in April and 2 cataract surgeries in June. I want to get stuff in my food first, but it can wait too. Prayers for you.

I have it growing as a boarder for most of my tree rows. I already cut back the ends of each row allowing most of the sides to bloom for the bees. I cut back any that overhang or stick out too much in the walkways. When the end caps grow back I'll rotate through the rest when the previous row grows back enough.

@@Floridafoodforest. thanks I'm in the process of planting 12 of those along a fence line 10 feet apart. I hope to make all of my own fertilizer from now on.
