- Welcome to my deep dive into the Mexican Sunflower (Tithonia) - my ABSOLUTE favorite flower to start from seed! 🌻
Reasons this beauty has stolen my heart:
🌺Ease of Growing: Believe it or not, I grabbed these seeds from Dollar Tree for just $.50 Yes, you heard it right. These magnificent blooms started from super affordable seeds.
😬CORRECTION: I said the seed pack was $.20 in the video and they were $.50.
🌺Stunning Color Transition: Watch in awe as the flowers shift from a deep, fiery red to a vibrant orange, with the underside flaunting a dazzling yellow.
🌺Nature's Favorite: Not only is it a feast for our eyes, but birds, hummingbirds, and a myriad of pollinators adore this sunflower. Whether it's the seeds catered for the birds, or the rich pollen for our buzzing friends, Tithonia has something for every winged visitor.
🌺Low Maintenance, High Reward: Once planted, this gem is remarkably easy to care for. Just ensure it has ample room because this giant can stretch up to an impressive 15 feet!
🌺Extended Blooming Period: Get ready for a floral show from late spring all the way to the first frost.
🌺Winter-Proof: Another reason to love Tithonia? It's undeterred by cold temperatures. You can easily start winter sowing, even when the mercury dips below freezing.
Join me as I walk you through my journey with the Mexican Sunflower. Whether you're a gardening pro or just getting started, this flower is sure to enchant you as much as it has enchanted me. Let's bring more color, vibrancy, and nature to our gardens!

I’m in deep east Texas and had planted these from seed for a few years. When they’d be done for the year I’d take them out and toss them on a pile and just leave it. This year I never planted any and the stand of them that came back from the years of piled plants was mind blowing!! They reached at least 12-14 feet tall and flowered in yellow to red!!!
Simply stunning!! I have video where it looked like leaves were raining down from the trees…..it was BUTTERFLIES!!!
Every color of the rainbow-hundreds of butterflies❤❤❤❤❤❤
The hummers loved them, they were alive with beautiful insects like bumble and honey bees. Also, you can stick a piece of the stem into the ground and it’ll grow. They’re an incredible source of potassium and nitrogen as a fertilizer and are so good for erosion control.
They are a gift from God to us.❤
11:01 😊
Love this!
Exactly, God amazes me all the time!
One of my favorites to grow. Butterflies love them. I remember one year I walked outside to find butterflies swarming around them! It was almost scary because I had never seen such a large group of butterflies. The flowers are a beautiful, brilliant shade of orange. I grow them every year. I almost always get a 'volunteer' every year from last years seeds re-seeding themselves.
I love this and can visualize it so easily. We are so blessed to have such beautiful plants to attract such beautiful creatures 🥹
Be careful! There are 2 different Tithonia’s, rotundifolia, which you have, and the diversifolia (yellow) which is extremely invasive. Thank you for sharing the rotundifolia! It’s quite extraordinary! Can’t wait to add it to my garden.
I threw some seeds in dirt outside in a location where nothing else has ever grown.
These plants are now 10 feet tall surviving full all day Phoenix AZ sun! They are amazing!!
Ps- can we talk about how suuuuuuper soft the flower stalks are? They’re like sweet little puppy ears soft!!❤
@@zoni36They are beautiful! A guy at work gave me a seedling in spring so I put it in my vegetable garden and it finally bloomed yesterday! I noticed this evening it turned towards the sunset! 🌻
@@basedkaren51 that’s awesome! I love that they will be great fertilizer when they’re done growing. One of my stalks has grown to over 12 feet. In awe at how amazing this plant is. Happy growing!
Look at this!!!!
Yes, I didn’t even think about talking about that but you were absolutely correct. They really do lol
OK, you sold me! I think I will try them this year. My neighbor had a giant brick wall built around his property, so I have a brick wall on one side of my backyard I will try them along. One year I planted giant sunflowers there, and the neighbor told me all the women around the area loved them. I had no idea. Maybe they'll love these too!
No doubt they absolutely will 😊
Couldn't agree more. In fact, I picked up a packet of discount seed and planted it and oh my gosh, I was in love with it instantly. It eventually reached 7 ft in height and my gosh, the buzzers and birds were in nirvana. I've never seen a plant attract butterflies quite like this. Since it is tall it will blow over with high winds so I put the largest tomato cage I can find and run two 6 ft. stakes zip tied to the cage. As it grows you'll need to train the center leader to stay inside the cage (yes, it gets that big) so it's got good support.
I didn’t know what kind of sunflower I had planted, because I got them as seeds and just threw them in the ground. I came outside one morning and, saw the most beautiful flowers I took a picture on google ,and now I know what kind of sunflowers I have. Some are red some are orange some are a mix of red and orange. I live in Alabama so it’s doing wonderful.
Sounds like a Mexican sunflower to me. Now save those seeds!!!!
Because of your enthusiasm for this plant, I tried it,holy cow batman it’s 8’ tall and probably 4’ wide, everything you say is true, and that’s here in Minnesota.Thank you for sharing. 🌻❤🦋🐝🪲🕊️
YAY Tina! That is fantastic news. I am so glad you loved it and it's not just me being a crazy plant lady...which obviously I am lol. I am so excited that it is putting on a show for you too. So much fun.
I have been working with with particular group of plants since 2007... 😅 Started as a teenager!
32 now.
Perhaps my sunflowers will also benefit your wild animals as well!!
My yard is a wildlife wonderland!! Its great
I have 8 planted along the front of my veg garden. Very easy and awesome flower. 👍
That is amazing! I know it must be quite mesmerizing to see all of the wildlife enjoying your 8.
I tried growing mine about three years ago and have since collected seeds to replant every year. It is the easiest to grow from seed for this non-gardening person. I generally plant peonies and shrubs that require little to no care. These are the first real annual flowers I planted and love the results.
Do they all produce seeds?
@@basedkaren51 Yes. I googled how to collect and plant seeds from my flowers that I had started the first year from a packet of seeds I bought. Since the first year, I just wait until the flower dies off and collected them. Just google how to collect the seeds and plant early spring to have flowers from July to the first freeze, here in Tennessee. Good luck.
I have several in my flower beds. Can put in full sun or part sun. But blooms profusely in FULL sun.
I agree! It does seem they bloom more in full sun for me also. Do you love them? Thank you for adding this to the list of why I love them. They are also versatile. :-)
@@thesoutherndaisyllc Major pollinator magnet!! I do some dead-heading on them to encourage lasting blooms.
I grew one of these one year and loved it. I don't have a space for it now, but I'm working on it. Can't wait to have it in my yard again.
Me too!!!!
I’m in 7a and if you grow it near your house, on a south facing wall….you might get lucky and get some to come back from seed😊
Oh that is fun. Thank you for the tip :-)
Grew 4 of theses for 1st time last year- in middle of veg garden. Like you, I had no idea they would be so large. But they were really beautiful! Loved watching bees & butterflies enjoy them. I'm winter sowing & putting them in a new wildflower bed this year!
I’m so glad that I’m not alone. I couldn’t figure out why these dwarf plants were growing so huge. I was thinking my soil must really be amazing 🤪
I have been growing this for the last 5 years and it’s my favorite! It is a magnet for monarch butterflies. I now save way too much seed (I had to watch several UA-camrs explanations as they are sharp). I see seed packets at many garden centers or big box stores. I plant the seed directly in the ground in late May and I get blooms in August through the first frost in mid October. Mine are only orange. If I plant them along the fence, the squirrels enjoy them, too. I used to plant many along my fence as we usually get a couple strong wind storms and I tie the large stems to the fence with just a little twine as they can blow over…but don’t worry, they will continue to bloom and grow up from the ground level. So happy to see others love this stunning plant. I am in northwest Ohio 6a.
How far away from the fence do you plant them?
@@Ceejc not far…4”…maybe 8.
One of these voluntered in our garden this year- I’m so glad I didn’t cut it! It is the crowning flower of our garden:)
Right???? It’s an epic plant that deserves all the attention (in my opinion of course lol)
After watching ur winter sowing vid back in the winter.. you convinced me to winter sow some. And wowser. 😂 its in the center bed of my veggie beds garden. 1 plant survived my winter sowing diaster and Its like a living tower of orange blooms everywhere beaming over the garden. Magnificent! Better than statue. Haha Also, it's so drought tolerant! The variety of wildlife is a beautiful thing. Thanks for recommending! Ill be planting these along my fence line next yr. Haha ❤❤❤
I love this. I did the same this year. I loved it so much I planted it along my fence and next year I am going to do even more :-) How awesome to hear that you love it. Thank you for telling me.
Yes! One of my favorites, too. I did not know Dollar Tree carried the seeds, definitely will look next spring👍
Be careful - make sure seeds are not from China as they are treated!
They do and they have them out now. Check them out
Walmart does too! 50 cents!!
The birds are snatching the flowers head balded. I started planting this two years ago and feel in love too.... I love this flower too but so does all the bees, butterflies and birds..... I am planning to continue growing it... it grows amazing in my garden too... zone 7a
❤ love your video, I grew the Mexican sunflower this year and I absolutely love how you magnified all of it's natural properties and beauty. Thank you
Oh that’s phenomenal. Thank you so much for sharing that with me.
I've been growing these sunflowers for years and years all on 1 pkt. seeds. I love the color but I have not been able to find the yellow in seeds however, , I keep looking and I sooner or later I will find them. Mine grow to be about 6 ft. in height. I just can't get over the bright orange/redish and I think they will be forever my top flowere. Happy planting.
I most definitely will try that next season. I love nature.
You are in for such a great experience. I just sit and stare at it and get lost watching all of the different creatures enjoying summer :-)
Thanks for sharing! I just bought two pots yesterday! One is dwarf another one is tall! I grow them closed the fence! We are in Globe AZ (mountain area). Hope it will get healthy for beautiful gardens! Thanks again!
Im so glad I found you on here , I’m just starting to learn and your videos really help me a lot. Thank you so much. I’m going to try the Mexican sunflower 😊
Some guy gave me a seedling at work, he said it was a Mexican sunflower. I didn’t know what to expect but I took care of it. Finally bloomed and it’s beautiful! 🌻
He gave you a big gift!!!!!
I will be growing it now because of you,and of course the bees and birds and butterflies and… thank you.
So nice of you!!! You will not be sorry. Trust me when I say put it where it won’t block a view you want to see. They get super tall and absolutely stunning!!! Yay!!!!!
Just found your channel. I'm In SE Michigan. 24 years ago I lived in a friends ranch style apt. building, 8 units, so long southern exposure brick wall on one side. Roses, cut flower, veg., and butterfly garden (for nectar and host plants) Opposite side northern exp. So shade loving plants. I grew tithonia with great success and also had seeds self germinate. The brick wall elevated those beds to the next level zone wise. I'm once again living in a situation where I can a garden and want to start some tithonia, went on a search and found you. Liked & subbed😀 Thanks for the great content, Willie from Michigan the Great Lakes State.
Love this!!!! Thank you for finding me and taking a chance on sticking around 🤗 how’s the weather in Michigan these days?
Thank you for this one! I just found your channel today. LOVE it. I have been planting for the birds, bees, and hummingbirds. Not sure how I have never heard of this plant. I ordered seeds today but now see Walmart in the next town has them so I will be headed there tomorrow. I have never had luck with seeds till this year. I planted a thousand poppies seeds and they all came up and just started blooming. I am so excited, so now on to planting more seeds. I am in north Texas I still plant for zone 7b.....I don't believe we are really a zone 8a. They are so wrong.
I have seeds for orange milk weed. I'll have to get started on planting flowers I didn't think I'd like. Thank you for your joy of seeds🌻
I LOVE Mexican Sunflowers! They are easy to grow and the Monarchs here LOVE them (I live in the bay area, California). They are my favorite annual flower besides zinnias. I plan to plant a lot more next year. : )
I love these flowers also. Definitely a favorite. Pretty easy to grow also.
Me too!!!
Fine fine fine, your enthusiasm for this plant convinced me to grow it! I always steered away from those cheap seed packets... For no good reason! Now I always try them out, Dollar Tree always has 4 for 1 buck seeds which are great quality, too!
YES!!!! I love this! So I have the mentality that if the seeds are cheap and don’t grow I have nothing to lose. I fell in love with the American Seeds so much that I literally found the CEO on LinkedIn and sent him a message professing my love. For the seeds of course. I didn’t get arrested for stalking 🤣and actually got a response from him! Glad you are living the inexpensive seeds and trying this beauty 😊
*loving
@@thesoutherndaisyllc Bahaha, autocorrect always mixes up living and loving! 😂
I should do the same, but also ask them to marry me, for more seed access, of course! Lol
25 cents worth of Radish gourmet blend from Dollar Tree, and I have a large pot of forty+ plants growing in my utility room! 🥂
I have about 10 started. THEN looked up videos… lol I just love how pretty they were on the package. I had no clue they got so big! It’s gonna be awesome! Gonna hopefully use them as a privacy “hedge”. Glad I found ur channel :)
Hey just remember they are an annual so they won’t come back after the season ends
@@thesoutherndaisyllc idk I’m in zone 10 central Florida. They might go on forever! Lol
I also planted these my first time starting flowers last year without having a clue how absolutely stunning they are. The leaves and flowers have a velvety texture. Just lovely.
I love your energy❤❤ I have 8 or 10 🤔 tithonia that are about 4 -6 inches tall. They are growing beautifully and loving my grow room. I cant plant them up til the end of May here in 5b. I did start these because of you 😊❤ So excited! I think I got them at Epic gardening. The variety is “Torch.”
Your video is first time Ive heard of these and seen anyone talk about them so thank you so much for that! I will definitely be trying these! Ive already started a bunch of flowers in trays in my basement. So many have sprouted already!
I had never heard of it either and just happened to pick up a packet of them and was blown away by the beauty of it but just remember it gets very very big. Let me know how you like it if you grow it.
Im 14 days deep and im excited.🎉🎉🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️
Ahhhhhh I am excited too
Fun fun!
I had a friend that was growing this last summer up in Wisconsin. I was there for a visit. I grabbed a seed pod from his plant and brought it home to Georgia!
I just started the seeds! I can’t wait!
Your garden is beautiful!!!
You’re going to have your own and I know will love it so much. Thank you for saying my garden is beautiful!!!
Your video convinced me , I got some seeds today. I’ve got a 1/4 acre garden and last year I really got into planting native and other beautiful flowers. Tried diff types of sunflowers for the colors/height but sadly ya know the flowers don’t last very long. This variety checks all the boxes I’m interested in at the time. Once again thank you for selling me on this flower. Hope you have a great year
Brace yourself for the beauty! It blooms non stop until frost here. I didn’t dead head this year and I do recommend that to keep it flowering longer.
I love MSF and have grown it for years. Right now I am growing the gold ones.
What are your thoughts on the gold ones? I want to try them but curious how they compare.
awesome video! how hot do your summers get, do the tithonias have any issue with the highest summer temperatures?
It seems like they like it the hotter the better. They don’t miss a beat and it’ll get high 90s and insane humidity. Thank you!!!😊
I grew from seeds and planted in mid summer Am harvesting some seeds Saved a lot of the blooms when dry Will be planting in April In TOMBALL Texas Beautiful plant Butterflies and bees do love it
But man! Didn't it hurt your fingers? I kept pricking myself so much to get those suckers out lol. Probably just me but so worth it :-)
😊😊😊just got my FIRST Tithonia bloom and I'm ALREADY in LOVE ❤❤❤
My favorite flower. Easy to grow and beautiful. The butterflies and hummingbirds find them every year.
First year growing from seed, so excited can hardly wait to pop them in the garden. Thank you for such an inspirational look at Tithonia
I’m going to plant this for the first time today!!!!
❤❤❤❤
You will LOVE it.
This is my first year planting this flower , sowed a couple months ago.
Just got my first bloom 😍😍
I know you're gonna adore yours too.
🤗 Happy Growing, Friend
Ive been trimmin the bush off. No more than waist high but bloomun crazy now and today 4 orange flutterie butterflys the most ive had yet ones smaller like its a baby
Oh wow, that’s such a great tip. I’ll have to try that next summer.
I want to try this next year. It might be a good alternative to my zinnias which get dusty mildew.
Do you need to stake them and how do you do it? Thanks
I have 2 I started from seed and going to grow in pots. Might not get as big but I’m sure the pollinators will love it either way 🦋🐝
Hi Kim 🌺. I have this plant in my garden . I love it's pretty deep orange flowers .
when it blooms it attracts attention like yours . Have anice day .🌺🌻🌺
Hi Lina, I am so happy to hear that you also have it and love it just as much. It does attract so many different types of wildlife. Have a great day :-)
I love your videos on this plant! You are the reason I am going to start growing them! ( I live in Norman, Oklahoma zone 7)
This is awesome
I got Tithonia this year. Going to try starting it in April. I'm in 8b
Yay!!!! This is great
I saw the mexican sunflower in another video. I was amazed by it that I ordered some seeds from Amazon. I couldn't find the and the stores. I am ready to plant them in late fall. Love your flower garden!
I'm so glad you found some. Depending on your zone make sure they will do well in late fall. I am in zone 7b and they are a summer annual that fizzles out when the cold hits.
I started winter sowing because of you and i also bought these seeds because of you. Can't wait !!! Thank you for sharing 🩷🌱🌷🌸
That is so sweet. I hope you love it as much as me!!! It’s spectacular 🥰
This plant is AMAZING.
I learned a lot about it and decided to grow it.
It's fantastic!
Its everything you said and ALSO a GREAT fertilizer for my other plants.
Its leaves have been serving as food for my garden.
❤️❤️OMG these are the best! One year I couldn’t find any seeds so I’m diligent about saving some now. A garden without Mexican Sunflower just isn’t the same!
I so agree with you
Do they grow easily from the saved seeds
I bought a shaker with supposedly "mini" wild flowers in it to just spread in a certain area. The bottle says nothing about what type of flower is in there. Well these grew! About 15 feet high right now. Crazy!
Wow that’s amazing!!!
I love this video. I feel the same, the more creatures I can help with my garden, the better. I am in zone 6 and have four little plants ready to go in the ground. I don't know if they will get this huge for me, but I will put them someplace where they will have room to grow as big as they can. Thanks!
I planted 2 of these in Minnesota this summer. I love them!! Mine did not get very tall nor wide but they both reached about 3-4 ft tall, one of them is still blooming now. I think they are so pretty and you are correct, you need to do nothing to them. I nearly forgot I had planted them since I planted sunflowers near them but animals ate those 🤦♀️
That is awesome! You know this year mine didn’t get very big so maybe it wasn’t a crazy growth year 😘
I created a Tithonia forest in my backyard one year and have been hooked on them ever since.
I'm in central NC as well and have grown these for the past two years. I don't even know how I discovered them last year but was very surprised with how well they did. Last year they were grown in clay soil and this year in a drier area and they preformed perfectly both years. As an added bonus for me, the deer have bothered them one bit!
I discovered these seeds a few years ago. Like you, I don't remember how I first purchased and grew them, but now they are a must-have. Northern Ohio.
That's good to know about the clay. I live in NW GA, and I think that's all we have is "GA red clay". It's not user friendly, imo. So coming across something beautiful, easy, polinator- loving AND grows in clay...??? I'm so trying it!!
Tú me convenciste totalmente! Actualmente estoy usando el winter sowing method y está funcionando! No puedo esperar a ver crecer mis Mexican sunflowers! También sembré Moonflowers (the vine you talked about it in another video) y no podía faltar Forget-me-not. Esas tres plantas no podían faltar en mi jardín después de ver tus videos! Gracias por compartir tu experiencia. Abrazos desde Houston, Texas.
Thank you so much. That means so much to me that you have been inspired to start your seeds in a way that you love. I think it is one of the greatest garden gifts I have ever found and I’m so happy to share it with all of you. You chose three of the best and I hope this is just the beginning of a very beautiful season full of flowers for you. Hugs.
Mexican Sunflower attracts ( bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and finches) and that's all my wife she wants !
You’ll be the hero forever 😘
Yes, you've convinced me to try this out! I've spring sowed it in a milk jug. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
Update: It's Aug and the Tithonia is absolutely stunning. It's a showpiece in the garden. The bees love it. Thank you for your suggestion. Growing in zone 8a Vancouver, BC, Canada
Watching your video convinced me, have some seeds going to plant some in pots to put out once our winter is over!
That’s amazing. 🤩
These sound wonderful! I have just added a package of them to my cart. 😂 I think they'll make a lovely privacy screen.
This is great! Have you started them yet?
@thesoutherndaisyllc I haven't yet! I did order the seeds that day though. 😂 Thanks for the reminder. :)
Thank you for the pollinator and bird info on tithonia. I wanted to try it anyway, but now I definitely will. 👍🏻👍🏻
I couldn’t find it last year when you demonstrated winter sowing. I’m glad you made this video to remind us about this beauty. I will search for it- it would be wonderful in my zone 9 garden.
I'm so glad too. Yes, it is one the best and seems to be even better this year. You can also buy them through any the seed suppliers.

Thank you! I just got some seeds and plan to plant these next to my Greg’s mistflower today! Im so excited! 🎉
I’ve tried direct sowing it the last couple years with no luck. I know it’s late but we are in California so I tried putting some in seed trays a couple weeks ago. They have germinated. Going to plant them out soon. We won’t have a frost until the beginning of December. So I’m hoping to have some success. I’ve heard such great things about it. Thanks for sharing! I always love your videos and enthusiasm!
I have never tried to direct sow them. I have zero luck direct sowing the regular sunflowers here. The birds just think it's a personal buffet for them. I started some in seed trays in late June and got them to germinate and now they are planted and about 2' tall. I imagine you are going to have amazing luck. Please keep me posted on how that works. I would love to know more. Thank you for saying such sweet things. That made my day! I appreciate you watching and taking time to leave a comment :-)
I have a bunch of those seeds and going to growl them along my fence line in my backyard. Thanks so much for the tips.
Great idea. They are so awesome. You’ll love watching the birds and bees all over then.
SOLD!!!😂
I'm doing it! Thank you very much ❤
Anytime 🤩
Any idea how they hold up in wind? I LOVE your garden and your enthusiasm is truly inspiring (I bought these!)🙂🌻
Hi! So enjoy your enthusiasm and bright smile. You have won me over and I will try these exceptional annuals. I’m in North Texas, zone 8b, and I hope they survive our triple digit weeks of summer. I had orange trumpet vines years ago, along my back fence, and regretted ever planting them, since they were horribly invasive, and 30 years later, I’m still pulling the occasional one out. I’m concerned that these might be invasive as well 😬, but they sound like they are worth a try!!
Thank you so very much. What a beautiful message. I appreciate your sharing this.
I think they actually thrive in the hotter the better triple digit temps. They are not invasive at all for me but def do your research!! Let me know how it goes!
Love these flowers.
I just got a couple of dead Mexican sunflower heads at a seed swap and I just planted in a few places I'm so excited!!
That's AMAZING! I've never been to a seed swap. How does that work? How incredibly fun. There are TONS of seeds in one dead flower head so I hope you picked it apart first lol.
@thesoutherndaisyllc there's a local church downtown Baton Rouge and every few months farmers/gardeners give away seeds. The LSU AG center comes its really interesting. They encourage us to save seed!
@thesoutherndaisyllc and yes I have baby Mexican sunflower now!!!
I grow the other variety, Tithonia Diversifolia with yellow flowers, I use them predominantly as a natural fertilizer but I also want to attract beneficial wildlife, they are loved by bees and Butterflies as well
I am interested in growing that also. Is it the same growth habit as the orange like 12 feet tall? Also people have mentioned it’s super invasive. Have you had any experience with that? I don’t have an issue with that as I’m happy to have things self seed, but just wanted to be able to educate myself on the yellow one.
@@thesoutherndaisyllc I believe they get to around 6 to 9 ft tall, and they are only invasive if you neglect pruning, they can produce air roots if it's humid like it is here in Florida so if the branches touch the soil while it's still on the plant, it can spread from the branches, I'd say even without air roots already they will produce them fast because they are in contact with the soil, I have had no problems with the invasive side of it because I use them to fertilize my plants so they are constantly pruned every other month or so, also it is very hard for them to self seed based on the research I have done, the seeds are inert and have a very low possibility of germinating, but so far I have had no issues with the 11 plants I have in my yard, very easy to grow and propagate
You talked me into trying it next season!
YAY! This is fantastic. Promise you will let me know your thoughts when you do!
@@thesoutherndaisyllc will do! I'm always looking for new pollinators for my yard, and I love watching the birds play with the plants, too!
Plant a lot of flowers on the place, but never saw the Mexican sunflower. I’m going to try it this year coming and this pack says it only gets 4 feet tall. We’ll see. Thank you very much and God bless you.
Just a heads up for my fellow Floridians, make sure you get this variety (Tithonia Rotundifolia) as opposed to the potentially invasive Tithonia Diversifolia. These have orange flowers and are Florida friendly where as the T. Diversifolia have yellow flowers and is being watched as it has a high invasive risk and is not recommended by UF/IFAS. If monitored though it’s better for chop and drop, but you have to be very vigilant that it does not spread.
Thanks for sharing that info
I'm going to give it a try. Thank you
That’s amazing!!!
I'm planting some seeds today.
I'm growing them for the first time in the middle Tennessee area. Absolutely gorgeous flowers so incredibly bright. Butterflies and bees are all over them. Mine are about 8 feet tall and wide. Had two huge ones 12 feet that a storm blew over. Next year I'm stalking them better. Fantastic plant anD so easy.
YES!! So easy and so worth it. I got smart this year and put a tomato cage around each one and it has saved them from crazy winds and even a flood. Maybe try that next year.
@@thesoutherndaisyllc that's good info about tomato cages. I'll use them from the start to give plants a better chance. Thanks so much for the tip!
THANK YOU I WILL PANT THE MEXICAN SUNFLOWER NEXT YEAR

I have seeds for this. I am going to try it out this year but after your video I’m not sure where I’m going to put it. It’s huge! LOL
It’s beautiful, and I’ll figure it out. Thanks for your vid!
Yes, definitely don’t make the same mistake. I made my first time planting and thinking it was a dwarf plant. You won’t be sorry for planting it. I hope all goes well for you.
I’m sold! Thank you!
YES!!!!!!!! You'll LOVE it!
Yes!!! What a wonderful plant. However, do deer eat it? Also, can it take any shade. Thanks!
Deer do not eat it. I have groups of 2-4 deer that regularly walk right past it.
I agree. I have deer that walk right past mine as well (where it has grown over and through the fence). They don't touch it. I did see that someone said they have theirs in part shade. I would give it a try, you never know.
I'm trying it. It is so hot here. I planted Spring in West Texas. Only one has come up so far. Have to water daily or it wilts. It is hot, hot, hot here.
Can you go over how you planted them? I just bought a ton of seeds and I’m so excited to get started!
I planted the seeds about half inch down...full sun, the more sun the better. First few days sprinkle with just a tad of water but once it gets going do not water. It's a Mexican flower...likes drought.
Sold. You are an amazing salesperson.
Do you know what’s crazy about that statement you made? I was a business developer in my prior company (sales) and hated every single second of it. I feel so disingenuous and that I was being fake lol. I wanted to make friends and not make people feel uncomfortable lol. So I take that as such a huge compliment bc I felt like I was so bad at it even though I believed in what I was selling. Now this plant is my heart. And I want everyone to have one because it’s that impressive. 😂 probably way more than you ever cared to know.
@@thesoutherndaisyllc seeds are in the ground as of yesterday. I'm zone 8A. This year i'm going to winter sow.
This is beautiful and would look so good in our garden… does it need trellising? I’ll definitely give it a try!! ❤
Nope it’s sturdy! Doesn’t Climb but i did put a tomato cage (it quickly outgrew) early on to keep it sturdy.
I plan on growing this!

Is this an annual? Does it die off where you have to reseed it? Such a beautiful plant though.
It is an annual and does die off. It’s worth it though. 😊
