    Dude I've watched several of your videos this morning and you are a working machine! I have several mexican sunflowers that I grew from cuttings and I placed a couple in pots temporarily until I could figure out where to pot them. Don't be like me, LOL. Yeah they set roots through the pot. I was about to dig them up today until I saw one of your other videos suggesting to use them for compost tea. So now I will let them be and begin the process of making tea instead. Thanks so much for this amazing tip.

    I’ve seen people take those tips, put them in water to root, to then speed up that multiplying and spread. Trying to figure out if this will grow in Arizona. Started some moringa, and this one is next on my permaculture/fertilizer list

      Hi Kellen, I been doing it this way for a while, I never had any problems with them growing leaves and rooting fast. just make sure you keep them moist. after I clipped them the leaves and stems grew back within a week or two, even more busher, which is how I like them because I use the leaves for compost tea.

      Just be carefull when planting this. It's great for biomass but spreades out really quickly if you leave pieces of woody cuts around... Here in my place some people say: you cut mexican sunflower and throw it away and it sprouts before hitting the ground

    Thank you for this video! May I ask how often you apply it, and do you apply it to all your plants? And, how does it compare to comfrey as a fertilizer? Also, where in Florida are you located? Thank you!!!

      Hi, I'm in North Central Florida on the East Coast. I use both the Comfrey Bocking 14 and Tithonia Diversifolia, I do not know to compare them because I use both on the same plants. I apply to all my Banana and Fruit trees around my property. I do my Palm trees around two to three times a year. I do all my Banana plants every three to four weeks,, (or when I have the time), especially when bearing fruit. I always have around five barrels full, and ready to use, by using Comfrey Bocking 14 and Tithonia Diversifolia saves me literally thousands of dollars a year. (Comparision) I use AgroThrive in my Vegetable Garden) it costs around $52.00 for 2.5 gallons. you do the math. There may be better fertilizers out there, but I'm the Frugal Hugel Gardener, and Free is Free. and it seems to be working well enough to stick with it. If I came across some other fertilizer plants that grew good in my area that the deer did not eat, I would add that to my list. Hope this helps you out. Thanks for your feedback. Sam

    Could you let one flower and set seed and collect that? Does it flower like a traditional sunflower with lots of seeds?

      @@TheFrugalHugelGardener i never saw exactly what barrel looked like when full of leaf material (how tightly packed, shredded, etc) and then after adding water. Seems like THE critical step. A picture worth 10,000 words.
      What does final end product look like? Any big pieces left? Small ones? Floating or sinking mash? How fo you filter that out for spraying?

    How long does it take in the barrel before the tea is ready to use?

    • @TheFrugalHugelGardener
      @TheFrugalHugelGardener  Рік тому +2

      Hi Jack, that will depend on the size of the barrel, how hot it is outside, and how full the barrel is. however, I fill mine completely with leaves, then add water, and let them sit for three months. sometimes longer. but you can start using it whenever you see that the leaves turned to liquid and the water is brown. the longer it sits the darker it gets. Hope this helps.

      @@TheFrugalHugelGardener can it sit too long? Like over winter for 5 months and then use in the spring?

    • @TheFrugalHugelGardener
      @TheFrugalHugelGardener  Рік тому +2

      No, I let mine sit until I use it, yes over winter. I make lots of 35 - 55 gallon barrels full so that I don't run out, so yes it can just sit for as long as you want.
