    The fact that you have everything right there to mulch that tree is my favorite part!

    I didn't know that locust were nitrogen fixers. I learned something today.

    Well that made so much sense. I planted comfrey for the first time this year so I know exactly where to plant more from now on. And I won't forget about the Black Locust either . Thanks as always for teaching us something new.

    I think I heard you say that the locust was volunteers? Man when I was young, those trees were everywhere around my parent's place. We used to eat the inside of the pods. Tasted similar to sweet tea to me. We always hated them because they grew in our pasture and the thorns would eventually get in the four-wheeler tires and tractor tires.
    I guess I need to look at adding a few around my fruit trees and maybe a few mimosa trees too. BTW, you have a beautiful view my friend. Love it.

    Just two days ago my neighbor was trying to convince me not to plant any black locust, ever. I said “ where did you say you had seedlings that you wanted removed?” I need some comfrey. Nice demonstration 👍 Thanks for sharing!

    Excellent video!!! What I've been doing is moving the mulch away from an area putting my cut flowers/plants directly on the soil like your doing and cover it back up with the mulch. Of course the 'chop and drop' can be the mulch itself too. I just get some mulch through Chip drop... so I got to put it somewhere. Thank You.

    Is that comfrey around the trees? The ultimate chop and drop🤩 Cant wait to get my seeds in so I can grow it everywhere. Bahahaa, just got to the point you mentioned it🤣

    And here I've been mowing over all those thorny saplings around here, not knowing what they were. Now I do and won't be so quick to mow them down.

    I watched this video a few times and I have read some people on other posts that say not to plant comfry too close to the trunk of the tree. I guess the theory is that comfry will rob the tree of nutrients, but if one is chopping and dropping like you have then essentially you are just giving it all back, plus the mined mineral from comfry. I also read that comfry won’t grow to its full potential unless it 5-7 feet from the fruit tree. In your video I think you stated that typically you don’t plant comfry that close to the tree. How far away do you usually plant it from the tree or does it not matter?

    • @PermaPasturesFarm21
      @PermaPasturesFarm21  3 роки тому +4

      I’ve planted a very very close and as far away as 6 feet. In all honesty I’ve never seen a difference in growth of the tree either way.
      I typically don’t like to be any closer than 3 feet but space limitations force me to do otherwise at times.

    Wont you have problems with powdery mildew because of the poor aeration and extra humidity because of the mulch?

    • @PermaPasturesFarm21
      @PermaPasturesFarm21  3 роки тому +1

      This tree was a 2ft bare root that we got from Ty Ty nursery in Georgia.
      All but one of those grafted trees are working out so far. We plan on getting them into the ground pretty soon.
