how to catch trout with powerbait on a carolina rig

- a quick tutorial on tying a simple rig to catch trout with powerbait. the carolina rig is simple and easy to tie, and every angle should know this effective rig.
I was using powerbait with the rig to catch trout at foster reservoir. the powerbait floats off the bottom and in the strike zone.
best powerbait color for that day was:
1. chartreuse
2. lemon lime green
3. rainbow color
I was using a 6'6" light action rod with a size 2000 spinning reel.

thanks.
Great video! I caught tow trout this weekend while camping and enjoyed eating them even more!
Great video! Thanks for the tip about this spot. I'll check it out on Wednesday evening this week.
I love the Carolina rig. I use a size 6 circle hook on my leader and doughbait. Hooks them in the gill rake every time.
Octopus circle or just circle?
Love your trout videos
love your videos thanks for taking the time to explain things so well
Cool videos. Trout fishing is magical brother.
Great video, thanks! When I use power bait ( egg or dough) trouts always swallowed it, is there any good way to remove the hook? I ended up cut my line every time...
+Leyang Feng that's pretty common for bottom fishing. difficult to avoid. I sometime crimp down the hook barb, or use a circle hook, which tend to hook them in the lip.
Thankyou for this video i use the same setup at my lake
Thanks for the info. Going trout fishing again next week, will stock up on the powerbait.
Thanks for the egg riggin info.
Great video! Just found your channel. New subscriber👍
Eggcellent!
I enjoy your videos. One suggestion for your camera work at the table...angle the camera more towards where your hands will be the majority of the time. While you were setting up the Carolina Rig, your hands were in the upper 1/8 or less of the screen quite a bit and disappeared from view often. I appreciate you saying that you have a separate video for tying knots, otherwise folks might have been frustrated being unable to see how you are tying the knots you used for the Carolina Rig.
Craig Peters I'll remember those points. thanks for the heads up.
Ok thanks, do you think I should have braided line and a fluorocarbon leader or mono and a fluorocarbon leader? Also is Ultraclear the same meaning as fluorocarbon? Just wondering ahaha, always wanted to start a fishing channel and I might do trout and coarse fishing one, any tips? Thanks for your time.
+CoC With Bok never heard of ultra clear, so can't comment on that. mono is all you need for leader. fishing channel, I would focus on species that are found within your area. trout is a good one since they are quite popular. GL.
+PK Yi thanks for the info!
Any recommendations on leader line length Im going camping at big bear lake and wanted to do some freshwater fishing HELP !
Where over there did you go camping?
Hi. Could u please what do you for bigger size of trout like steelhead that hook size are 2-4 in that case the hook wont float ! Thank you
Excellant thanks you
Hi - Can you tell what size (and or brand) swivel you are using?
Great video man...thanks!
cant seem to find powereggs in my local tackleshop(s), however, the dough works just fine for me
Are these trout you're catching naturally self-breeding trout or stocked trout? Because where I'm fishing we always keep them since they would die by early Summer due to the shallow warm water.
so, is it always better to expose hook when you put powerbait on it? i always ball it up and cover enite hook with it.
For the PB eggs, I do like the hook exposed to get a better hook set.
👍
I'm new to fishing, and I recently tried this setup on a lake shore and seemed to have a lot of trouble with the sinker getting caught up in rocks and what not on the lake bottom when reeling in. Anything that can be changed up to make that happen less? Or is that just bad luck with a rocky bottom?
getting snagged is pretty common with bottom fishing. what I do to lessen this is when I'm picking up my bait to bring it in, I give a hard jerk with the rod tip and reel in really fast so the sinker stays above the rocks/snag as I'm reeling in. if you reel in slow and let it drag on the bottom, it will snag more of course.
Makes sense, thank you. :)
Just wanted to update, I haven't had a chance to do a lot of fishing this summer, but got out again yesterday with the family and tried this method again and had good luck. Two nice rainbows for me and one for my wife. :)
Another thing you can do is use a "bullet" style weight. I use them and never get snagged at my local stocked lakes. Not trying to sound like a know it all cause Im not, but look into the bullet weights.
Shawn Fennell Use 3 small split Shot weights near the swivel instead of the slider weight.
I use a power egg with wax worm
oh ok...what weight do u usally use for the braid?
hey i noticed on your other rod...not the celio...u had what looked lile braided line for your main line. if so wouldd u recomened braided or just your standard line...ive never used braided line for trout but i know peole that do
+outdoorsman 1862 I upgraded all of my reels to braid. I won't be going back to mono. but I still use mono for leader though. definitely recommended.
PK Yi what size braid should I use for local stocked trout in California
What size leader 4lb
Can I use a #1 off set hook? Also can I use the dough version of the powerbait?
size 1 hook for stocked trout might be a little big? but hey, whatever works for you. I normally use a #8 to a #6 with the dough powerbait.
Hi, the loch I fish at is around 7ft deep, how long of a leader should I use? 3-4ft? Thabks
Thanks*
+CoC With Bok for bottom fishing, I assume, probably 2-3 feet. the spoon method might be more effective. 6" leader for that.
Were you using braided line on both reels? If so what lb test. Thanks.
+danyi2170 yes, I use braid on all of my reels. 20# test powerpro - but I believe I used a 6# mono leader at the time.
You use alot of braided line, any brand you like more then another? Also, does the weight get cut by the braid?
+James Hart I use power pro and spiderwire, which ever is cheaper. never had any problem with braid line cutting/wearing down the sinker.
help! how do u know when to set the hook? shouldnt u just set the hook when the bell is ringing becuase that means the trout is biting on it?
Jordan Kim noo that’s bad. Take the bell off and pickup the rod and then wait until you feel a fish in your line the. Set the hook. When the bell is ringing the trout could just be nibbling at it.
With this rig do you leave lots of slack in the line?
+Austin Campbell no, I keep it taught for easier bite detection
will these work well for both stocked and native trout?
+darren lambert yea, we've caught a lot of native cutthroat trout with them.
+PK Yi ok great, thanks.
Is pink a good color?
+Joe Carpenter never tried pink so not sure. colors that I've had a lot of luck with include chartreuse and rainbow.
Pink is extremely popular with Power Bait 3" Trout worms so I would say that pink dough would be successful. Don't forget about good ole salmon eggs too!
Where did you find those
Would these baits attract carp ?
Probably .... not. I've never heard of anyone using them for carp, but who knows ....
what model is that on the penn battle reel?
+FrankN beans penn battle 2 size 2500.
what pound main line was he using?
I think 10 pound braid
I just got into fishing and I was wondering why I need a leader
Van Kiani you don't need any leader line so =_ruvsru
Van Kiani One reason is that if you get snagged, your hook will break off but not your backing. It also helps the bait float better, from what I seen that not having a leader just sinks your doughbait down.
Why release when the fish is dragged on the logs? Trout have a 80% death rate when released because improper handling is used, not trying to be rude just saying
Not sure why I feel compelled to reply here...but I feel compelled to reply. The guy said MORE THAN ONCE that he's going to keep them. So the little fishies can bonk a few rocks. They're gonna get eaten.
I just went trout fishing
I really enjoyed the video 👍🏼 however it makes me cringe when I see people let the fish bang around on the rocks. I understand sometimes it is unavoidable but come on bud
Can I use this a Lake Tahoe off the bank ?
Sneaker head 123 definitely. the carolina rig isn't specific to an area and can be used anywhere. it's a great rig for bottom fishing.
Thanks bro
DUH! been using the slip sinker rig for over 40 years nothing new to me!
Okay, old timer. Calm down.
LOL
Check out the video on my channel for a better tutorial !
any body know how to use a carolina rig
Me
Yes, Uni-knot !! People who use a clinch or improved clinch quickly lose all validity with me.
WHY do you let the trout flop around on the gravel then release it . They have a slime film to protect their skin and you just scraped it off and tossed fish back in water to slowly die . Pretty much everyone knows this who has been fishing for a while .It's disturbing to see how you don't care about if the fish gets dragged over rocks and sticks before you let it go. Knot tying video part was great..watching you mishandle trout wasn't. Try a catch and release net...your fish will thank you.
