  • a quick tutorial on tying a simple rig to catch trout with powerbait. the carolina rig is simple and easy to tie, and every angle should know this effective rig.
    I was using powerbait with the rig to catch trout at foster reservoir. the powerbait floats off the bottom and in the strike zone.
    best powerbait color for that day was:
    1. chartreuse
    2. lemon lime green
    3. rainbow color
    I was using a 6'6" light action rod with a size 2000 spinning reel.

    thanks.

    I love the Carolina rig. I use a size 6 circle hook on my leader and doughbait. Hooks them in the gill rake every time.

    Great video, thanks! When I use power bait ( egg or dough) trouts always swallowed it, is there any good way to remove the hook? I ended up cut my line every time...

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  8 років тому

      +Leyang Feng that's pretty common for bottom fishing. difficult to avoid. I sometime crimp down the hook barb, or use a circle hook, which tend to hook them in the lip.

    I enjoy your videos. One suggestion for your camera work at the table...angle the camera more towards where your hands will be the majority of the time. While you were setting up the Carolina Rig, your hands were in the upper 1/8 or less of the screen quite a bit and disappeared from view often. I appreciate you saying that you have a separate video for tying knots, otherwise folks might have been frustrated being unable to see how you are tying the knots you used for the Carolina Rig.

    Ok thanks, do you think I should have braided line and a fluorocarbon leader or mono and a fluorocarbon leader? Also is Ultraclear the same meaning as fluorocarbon? Just wondering ahaha, always wanted to start a fishing channel and I might do trout and coarse fishing one, any tips? Thanks for your time.

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  9 років тому

      +CoC With Bok never heard of ultra clear, so can't comment on that. mono is all you need for leader. fishing channel, I would focus on species that are found within your area. trout is a good one since they are quite popular. GL.

    Are these trout you're catching naturally self-breeding trout or stocked trout? Because where I'm fishing we always keep them since they would die by early Summer due to the shallow warm water.

    so, is it always better to expose hook when you put powerbait on it? i always ball it up and cover enite hook with it.

      For the PB eggs, I do like the hook exposed to get a better hook set.

    I'm new to fishing, and I recently tried this setup on a lake shore and seemed to have a lot of trouble with the sinker getting caught up in rocks and what not on the lake bottom when reeling in. Anything that can be changed up to make that happen less? Or is that just bad luck with a rocky bottom?

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  8 років тому +2

      getting snagged is pretty common with bottom fishing. what I do to lessen this is when I'm picking up my bait to bring it in, I give a hard jerk with the rod tip and reel in really fast so the sinker stays above the rocks/snag as I'm reeling in. if you reel in slow and let it drag on the bottom, it will snag more of course.

      Another thing you can do is use a "bullet" style weight. I use them and never get snagged at my local stocked lakes. Not trying to sound like a know it all cause Im not, but look into the bullet weights.

    help! how do u know when to set the hook? shouldnt u just set the hook when the bell is ringing becuase that means the trout is biting on it?

    • @juansalas2194
      @juansalas2194 6 років тому

      Jordan Kim noo that’s bad. Take the bell off and pickup the rod and then wait until you feel a fish in your line the. Set the hook. When the bell is ringing the trout could just be nibbling at it.

    • @seanrodriguez8881
      @seanrodriguez8881 7 років тому +1

      Van Kiani One reason is that if you get snagged, your hook will break off but not your backing. It also helps the bait float better, from what I seen that not having a leader just sinks your doughbait down.

    Why release when the fish is dragged on the logs? Trout have a 80% death rate when released because improper handling is used, not trying to be rude just saying

    WHY do you let the trout flop around on the gravel then release it . They have a slime film to protect their skin and you just scraped it off and tossed fish back in water to slowly die . Pretty much everyone knows this who has been fishing for a while .It's disturbing to see how you don't care about if the fish gets dragged over rocks and sticks before you let it go. Knot tying video part was great..watching you mishandle trout wasn't. Try a catch and release net...your fish will thank you.
