I've fished for trout my entire life however I had never used plastics for trout before. After watching this video I decided to pick up a pack of these bad boys. I had instant success. I've caught bows, brooks, and browns on these worms both native and stocked fish. Thanks for the video
I should also mention that you can adjust the float so that the worm is around 12-18 inches off the bottom if the depth allows for it. Just another helpful way of getting into the strike zone!
I swear by these pink worms if you have a tackle shop that carrys a variety of trout worms/beads you can usually find some troutbead hooks sizes 4 -8 I use sz 6 and i kinda put it on the hook like you would a jig hook so the tail is waggling. also texas or wacky style like the video above. amazing bait.
Out here on the west coast we fish for steelhead and salmon in streams a lot like this and its super effective. Pink worms, roe, marabou jigs, yarn balls, all with or without sent, and all work well. I will say the floats we tend to use are longer, which helps fine tune everything. You not only can tell if you hitting bottom, but also if your presentation is drifting directly below the float. That effects how natural everything looks underwater.
Also if the water gets deep in a stream or river using a slip bobber setup is the way to go. Well to be honest in my opinion a slip bobber setup is the best way to go as there are no disadvantages and you don't have to fuss with a long line under the bobber potentially
the knot you use here is to me the best knot I've found to hold tight. You were very wise to mention not to trim the excess line too close to the actual knot. thirty years ago when I found out how to use this knot you wouldn't believe how many huge fish I lost not from breaking but from coming untied because I always trimmed the excess too close. another big plus I found is too moisten the knot before pulling tight. great video
Thank you so much for this video, I learned a lot about trout fishing from you, I'm a salt water fisherboy and your videos prepared me for my trip to a near by lake with a friend.
I like using clear water bubbles they let you cast far and the line can slip thru it so after you cast the leader on a stopper swivel can allow it to sink, so then you can kind of jig it back in.
I've been curious about using a 1/16 oz jig to Texas rig one of those trout worms and finesse it on the bottom. I might have to try it this weekend-they just stocked 7k lbs of rainbows. Like the vid.
Good video. Trout season has opened up here last Saturday I'm waiting for the streams to not be crowded before I go. One little trick that I discovered is that placing your split shots about 3-6 apart as opposed to next to each other on your line will help to avoid catching the bottom because even though you still have the same weight it's distributed across a wider area. Never used a float before I'll have to give it a try. Would be interesting to see how those power bait worms would stack up against a good ol American hand dug red worm.
Nice point on dividing up the weight. That's what I do naturally. I never even thought about stacking them up might cause more issues with the bottom. Very good point!
This dude is right! One of the best bait out there for trout fishing. However, try using the trout magnet hooks with it. Helps it look more natural while providing the weight that you will need for the worm to move fluidly.
Hey, thanks for the video, it's great ! I am in France and unfortunately did not have the time to find these wonderful pink lures... I did however find some similar looking ones but originally designed for the sea: they are purplish/pink sandeel soft lures of about 15cm. I am going to to try it out and will let you know if it was a good alternative. I am going fishing in the centre of France, in beautiful mountain creeks which are full of trouts so let's see ! Cheers and thanks again !
Thank you for this video. I got into a few using this info even in the winter and was very happy. Benefit of spacing the split shot is that the trout might not feel the full weight of both during the initial take?
great video, man - I had exactly these pink worms lying around in my tackle box forever, never got to use them. going on on a stocked trout lake here in MB this weekend, going to try your rig. cheers.
I've tried the pink worm on a weightless wacky rig, and on a stocked trout pond. didn't manage to catch one trout. Thanks for the tips on how to fix this rig. hopefully it will catch me some!
Hi Caleb, are you still doing videos? Also, how would you change your rig for a large river with a fast current. Depth is probable 4' to 15' of water. Thanks!
+Jennifer Stokker I do intend to get more videos out. Every time I say that something gets in the way haha. I plan on doing a bass series this spring/summer. To answer your other question on depth and current. I typically switch out that little float for one of the bigger clear floats that you run your line down through. I actually use the black bird phantoms. Then just bigger split shot. Other than that I rig it the same way. Hope that helps!
Caleb, What size float would you use? Also, I will be going for some very large trout in May. They could be 5lb to 15lbs, what size line would you recommend? I usually use 6lb but I am afraid if I actually get a monster trout on I could loose it with the 6lb test. Thanks again!
+Jennifer Stokker when I go to Erie to fish for Steelhead (trout), I use what we call around here a noodle rod. Essentially it's a 9-10ft rod and I use 4-6 pound fluorocarbon just like I would for normal trout fishing. The long rod helps absorb all the shock to the line and let's you get away with using lighter pound test. Make sure your drag is set properly on your reel and you'll be fine! As far as float size goes, that's more bait and water specific. I like the clear floats with the red tops for the Erie streams. Hope that helps! Best of luck to you!
Sure. You will just have to adjust the weight so that you’re matching the speed of the fast water. I honestly put a little more than what I think is enough then just remove some if I get stuck
Question: If the worm floats, and the split shot will take the bait down and then allow the worm to float up off the bottom - then why do you need a bobber? So you can set the rod down and fish with multiple setups?
+John Shields you don't necessarily need to use an indicator, but it does help if they are suspending at a certain depth, or maybe they're hitting really light that day and the indicator will give more away. I've definitely used this same method but removed the float. Just depends on where they are at in the water. Hope that helps!
Hey man, really liked your vid- Im curious; I live in NC. There are over 1100 miles of hatchery supported waters- many right here in the surrounding counties; ALL these waters are heavily fished. Cherokee is the most popular, the Tuckasegee River is the next most popular and biggest river around- it is fished very heavily and is on "delayed harvest" through the fall/winter months- I love to spinner fish; (panther Martins, rootsers, etc) but simply dont do as well with these stocker fish with lures. So, worms is the obvious "go to". The tuck is usually a little murky and in most areas is around 3 to 4 feet deep and the really good holes are loaded of course with "snags and wasted bait"! - would this set up your using work there in your opinion (murky, warm water in the summer months?) I mean, if they hit real worms, wouldnt the scented Berkley powerbait work even better? Obviously I could just try, and I will after watching your vid; but I wondered if you had any insight you might offer- I KNOW there are BIG trout in there, Ive seen em, missed em myself- you think this method fits my situation? Thanks for any insight : )
+Phil Sanders absolutely it will work! They see and smell this worm better in the murky water. The red is also another great color to use. I fish for trout all through the summer using this setup. Doesn't matter if it's clear or muddy. This setup just provides me with more hookups!
+One More Cast TV one thing I forgot to mention. If you get the tungsten weight putty, you can mold it to a longer shape. It tends to get snagged less. It's a little tricky to get used to at first, but for a spot like you're saying where there's lots of snags, it might just do the trick! Tight lines!
hey caleb nice video! havent tried this yet but I just wanted to say I live in the Cumberland County area. do you know any good places where trout are stocked? have you ever fished the yellow breeches creek im going there monday. But I dont fly fish so I use a spinning rod I dont really want to fish moving water so I fish lakes. I fish at Marquette Lake in Lebanon county near Fort Indiantown Gap. Do you know any waters near Cumberland County that this rig works for? thank :)
+Jordan Kim you want to throw up stream and let it float down while slowly reeling in the slack. If you watch my opening trout day video, you will see how I'm doing it.
Idk why no one uses or talk about it but to get the height right, change over to a drop shot( I use it with trout magnets) no floater, and just jig the worm to the height you want.... than let it drop and repeat
how do you carry your gear. I mainly fish on banks and I'm looking for a backpack that's not to buy because I don't have very much stuff. I'm trying to find one I the 30 - 45 dollar range
+Dylan Johnston I use this pack www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00QI8N8JI/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1517676737&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=fishing+pack it's only 13.99 and it does the trick for me. I plan to upgrade to a nicer chest pack eventually, but for that price you can't beat it. I have the lime green one. You can see it on me in my thumbnail picture of my profile.
Hey I'm going on a trip in 3 days and I need these hooks. FishUSA shipping is frankly just out of my price range to get them. What are the gamakatsu hooks (size and type) that I could use instead, because I could pick them up at a local store. Thanks man :)
+John Brand Hey, I hope this comment gets to you in time! You could use the Gamakatsu octopus hooks in size 8, 10, or 12. I prefer smaller sizes, but everyone has their own preference. If it were me I'd use the 10 and 12 sizes. I even use 14 sometimes. Depends on how clear the water is. Hope that helps! Good luck!
1. For easier bite detection. 2. You can adjust it to the level that trout feed which is about 12-18 inches off the bottom. 3. You definitely don't have to use an indicator. My buddy fishes them with out it and does very well with out it. I like being able to know I'm at a certain depth/not hanging up on the bottom the whole time. I hope that helps!
thanks buddy. I'm not too far from you, northern Md, and most streams here are not very deep at all. IE; Friends creek, Middle Creek, Owens creek. Maybe the float would help me more in the lakes and ponds?
I use it on some small creeks around here that are sometimes only 2 feet deep. Give a try see if you like it. But like I said, my buddy doesn't use a float and really likes it that way. It's completely up to you. You can definitely use it in ponds and lakes like that to catch them. We have a lake about 20 minutes from us that's stocked with trout and I've used it there and it catches them too. Good luck!
+Ant O more weight and a bigger float. I like the Phantom Floats from Blackbird. www.fishusa.com/product/Blackbird-Phantom-Floats-by-Redwing-Tackle?gclid=CJuu9rCRmtMCFdCNswodRiAOPA&gclid=CJuu9rCRmtMCFdCNswodRiAOPA
+Tony Larios thank you! I am definitely going to do that. I have a simple jig I tie that works great. I'll be making a video of that as it gets closer to the season!
+Aiden Park I usually don't. I usually just spool my whole reel up with Fluorocarbon line. I use 4 pound test sometimes 2 when it's really low and clear.
+Sliest Thread600 if you watch my opening day video I have the locations and coordinates in the description. Yes, these worms are definitely floating. That's why you want to use a split shot to get it to float along the bottom.
+josh militz sure have! They love it! I do best with this rig or a simple to tie jig that I make. I'll have a video up on the jig closer to steelhead season.
The only baits that I will ever use for trout 🎣 is none other then Berkley powerbait, Berkley gulp alive and Berkley gulp. These are the main three powerbait I will for trout and that I trust only. I do catch a lot more and bigger trout with these Powerbeats.
Pink neons are hot they steal the fish out there I was using I with a spray on bait shrimp 🍤 flavor and cast it and caught channel cat on pink plastic they strike for the color any fish I think just has to add sometime to the attractant bass with the pink neon to I makes them aggressive attackers
Overcomplicated and relatively expensive way to catch trout. My son and I have averaging 20 +/- trout a trip for the past 20 years on a much less complicated rig. All released.
Good, informative video, thanks for taking the time to put this together. A suggestion, though: you should try to condense your content a bit. 10 minutes was a bit long to tell us that you wacky-rig a pink trout worm with a split shot and float - this was more of about 6 minutes worth of content.
+Morgan Smith not all the time. But for the best drift action I prefer it. There are times where i take it off and let it drift without it. Just depends how they like it that day. Hope that helps!
+Racing Man 10 I've used it successfully in lakes however it ends up being changes somewhat depending on lake depth. You can throw it out there and wait using a slip float, or use a jig head and bounce it back to you. Good luck!
You mention this can be used o still water too... how would you fish it in that case? Still suspend it near the bottom and just give it some twitches to animate it?
I use a #8 blackbird sabretooth hook with a chartreuse Lucky Lady worm. Basically same setup but without the float. Seems like the Lucky Lady worms are a little more limber and give it more action wacky rigged. JMO
I've fished for trout my entire life however I had never used plastics for trout before. After watching this video I decided to pick up a pack of these bad boys. I had instant success. I've caught bows, brooks, and browns on these worms both native and stocked fish. Thanks for the video
+Charles Craft makes me very happy to hear! Tight lines!
I should also mention that you can adjust the float so that the worm is around 12-18 inches off the bottom if the depth allows for it. Just another helpful way of getting into the strike zone!
One More Cast TV what size hook did you use in this vid
I too would like to know what size hook you used. Thx.

Thx WEE LEE
No problem ! Happy Fishing!
I've been using the Berkeley floating trout worms for years. I've had a lot of success with the orange ones as well as bubblegum.

Thank you and I’m glad I could help you!
I like using clear water bubbles they let you cast far and the line can slip thru it so after you cast the leader on a stopper swivel can allow it to sink, so then you can kind of jig it back in.
A trout magnet with the trout magnet jig head works too if you don't have any powerbait worms
+JoeyGroux I agree. I love the pink with the gold head!
One More Cast TV , I kill them on the yellow with silver head, and i catch more by jigging them than floating them. 200+ trout in 3 months...
I've been curious about using a 1/16 oz jig to Texas rig one of those trout worms and finesse it on the bottom. I might have to try it this weekend-they just stocked 7k lbs of rainbows. Like the vid.

I'm doing my first trout fishing derby this weekend with my brother in law. I bought 2 packs and I'm excited to try this bubblegum worm!
+Janet Kramer that's exciting! I'm sure the pink worm will treat you we'll! Good luck!
Janet Kramer how did u do?
Question, how do you use this setup in a still lake? Do you just let it float there or reel it, or pop it back
Thanks for this rig. I never would have thought it would work on wild trout the way it does. BTW, nice video, very informative!
+BWayne96 You're welcome! Happy to hear you like it. I do very well with it every time I go out. I even use it to catch Steelhead. Very effective!
This dude is right! One of the best bait out there for trout fishing. However, try using the trout magnet hooks with it. Helps it look more natural while providing the weight that you will need for the worm to move fluidly.
Yup bro we went to school pardy lake this week we Caught 30 with pink worm
Thanks for the tips, I'm going camping next week and going to try a few of these tips out and hopefully can caught some good size trout.
+ItsCube I wish you tight lines out there!
Great video! Im new to trout fishing and this was very helpful! What size hook is that and does it matter if the hook is offset?
Thank you! I usually use 12-16. I usually use black birds. Size 14
Hey, thanks for the video, it's great !

This was exactly one year ago today that I was looking for trout tips before I went out in PA
+Yo Boy Parker I hope this helped you! I'll be getting my opening day video up after this weekend!
Why haven't you made more videos? your videos are the best!
Good Luck Man! Have fun and looking forward to seeing the video!!!
Thank you! Good luck to you too!
Thank you for this video. I got into a few using this info even in the winter and was very happy.

great video, man - I had exactly these pink worms lying around in my tackle box forever, never got to use them. going on on a stocked trout lake here in MB this weekend, going to try your rig. cheers.
Thank you! Good luck! I’m sure they will produce!
Did it work dude?
Been telling people about powerbait for years, I agree with you best bait for trout. Get some honey works too, by far the most catches for me.
I've tried the pink worm on a weightless wacky rig, and on a stocked trout pond. didn't manage to catch one trout. Thanks for the tips on how to fix this rig. hopefully it will catch me some!
Thank you! You're very welcome! Let me know if you have any questions.
Did it work bro?
I have had a lot of luck with chartreuse. I also live in PA
+Ritziershrimp9 gaming agreed. I also like the red a lot too!
Thank you I appreciate this video I'm from Pennsylvania never been fishing and I needed this video ty
Thank you! That's what I love to hear! That's why I put them on here to try and help in any way that I can. Good luck out there!
my buddy russ redfern lives in Easton and makes good videos too. going to the eastern sierras. will try your rig thanks
Great video. Do you think this rig would work in a lake situation with stocked trout here in NJ?
Sorry for the late response. But, yes I do. I’ve used in lakes before no problem.
My lake is 30 feet deep and the trout hang out at around 20 ft so how would I use this method? Thanks Bud
+Allen R you could utilize a slip bobber. If you are unfamiliar with them there's a ton of videos online that show you how to set one up
Great video on how too. I'm learning. It's really helpful. Thank you
+jimsmith1100 thank you! I'm glad I could help!
Hello,
Nice video!
Have you tested this berkley pink power worm in saltwater fishing?
Thanks a lot.
good video I'm going to tanycomo in MO next week I'll give it a try first time trout fishing
+Mr. Rotdog best of luck to you out there! Tight lines!
Thanks!
I'm going fishing in the sommerset PA area this weekend. Any tips?
Awesome video dude. That was really helpful
+OG Jugg thank you very much! Best of luck to you this season!

Will pink shad Berkley powerbait wormsnwork I have some of them already
If you wanna go simple, small bobber, small barbless panfish hook (trout are fragile!), 8 pound test, and worms
Great video! Going to go try this out this week for sure!
Thanks for the tips. Note made. Hope the Pinkies work here in Oregon
+Alan S. You're very welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
we have really shallow rivers, fast running water, would you still use a float in that situation?
Sure. You will just have to adjust the weight so that you’re matching the speed of the fast water. I honestly put a little more than what I think is enough then just remove some if I get stuck

How about easy and strong knots
+Colleen Lopez thank you for the insight. I definitely do need to do a knot video!
how do u fish them? just cast out and wait?
+Jordan Kim you want to throw up stream and let it float down while slowly reeling in the slack. If you watch my opening trout day video, you will see how I'm doing it.
thanks man looks like a good selection of products i'm going to try the exact setup
Thank you! You won't be disappointed! Best of luck out there and if you have any questions, just ask. Tight lines!
Worked perfect, caught a good size rainbow my first cast! Thank you!
That’s what I love to hear! Happy to hear it!
Idk why no one uses or talk about it but to get the height right, change over to a drop shot( I use it with trout magnets) no floater, and just jig the worm to the height you want.... than let it drop and repeat
hey how do i fish in a deep area do i fish on the bottom using a corkie to float the worm ???

My name is Caleb to I love power bait pink worms I calt my PB trout it was 18lb 3in
I iced fish in Washington for trout and perch some crappie best bait was a Swedish pimples with neon orange glow worms maximum scent
Going to have to try this. Thanks for the tip.
float , bobber and flyers(fly fisherman) call them Indicators. because it makes them smart.
+Trouta Holic haha yeah there's so many different names!
lols lets take it one step further.... "strike indicators"
Thank you! Great video, excellent communication skills. I feel confident I will catch trout with this method, thanks:-) Subscribed
+arduino hobbyist thank you! I appreciate the kind words! Tight lines out there!
But those mousetails!!! That's where the money's at, just like the worms but a little ball of something on the end! BOY LOOK 😂😂😂
hey I'm 11 years old and i love going fishing um what is the best powerboat eggs like whats the best colors you have i really want to know
+Adrian Hernandez I've always preferred a bright pink, orange/yellow mixture, or peach colored.
where in pa are you? i fish pennypack/fairmount park everyday in philly.
probably a stupid question but..., if the Berkeley Trout worm floats, why the need for an additional float/bobber?

Good luck!
how would you use this for a canal or creek ? like the D&R in pa, their about 5-6 feet deep
+Ant O more weight and a bigger float. I like the Phantom Floats from Blackbird. www.fishusa.com/product/Blackbird-Phantom-Floats-by-Redwing-Tackle?gclid=CJuu9rCRmtMCFdCNswodRiAOPA&gclid=CJuu9rCRmtMCFdCNswodRiAOPA
Could you use these off the bottom?
nice. you should make a rig set up for steelies
+Tony Larios thank you! I am definitely going to do that. I have a simple jig I tie that works great. I'll be making a video of that as it gets closer to the season!
Great video!
Do you use a leadeR?
+Aiden Park I usually don't. I usually just spool my whole reel up with Fluorocarbon line. I use 4 pound test sometimes 2 when it's really low and clear.
i see. thanks for the tip!
Opening day for trout, do you mean for weather?
I live In PA two and what place were you fishing at? And are these floating
+Sliest Thread600 if you watch my opening day video I have the locations and coordinates in the description. Yes, these worms are definitely floating. That's why you want to use a split shot to get it to float along the bottom.
do the worms float? and what line should I use? fluorocarbon or monofilament?
+Jordan Kim the worms do float. And I have a great video on line selection and how to figure out which one to use! Check it out!
Do you ever use this type of rig for steelhead?
+josh militz sure have! They love it! I do best with this rig or a simple to tie jig that I make. I'll have a video up on the jig closer to steelhead season.
Sounds great I look forward to it
What size hook do you use for Steelhead?
Hook em correctly llama and I’ll love it!
Where in pa do you live? I'm over in Pittsburgh area. Do you know any good places?
do they not have salmon eggs for bait on the mainland? they're a guarantee here in hawaii
yall got trout in hawaii?!?
there's a reservoir on the top of a mountain on Kauai stocked with little rainbows. i heard the record is around 5lbs
+seankoro they definitely do! They work very well. This is a rig that just out works salmon eggs for me. It's a trout slayer!
also, if 12-18 inches then why have splitshot at 8-10 inches?
You don't want to have it too close to the bait they will see it.
I was trying split between the weight I though it changed the drag in the weight when the fish pulled against it
does this work for brook trout as well?
Absolutely! I use it for all types. It is even effective for Erie Steelhead!
@@OneMoreCastTV Perfect, anxious for the summer to try this out
Will the suckers+sunnies steal the pink wurms?
+Eric Faist I have had that happen. Kinda just have to fight through it, haha!
I started fishing a week ago and what is the best lure to use
Worms on a bobber rig
love this vid! very well explained
Thank you!
One More Cast TV No thank you! I'm a newbie & have been looking all over UA-cam & this vid is the best explained! Thank you! 😊
HOW MUCH DOES POWER BAIT PAY YOU? I have used VELVEETA and it works. Much cheaper than POWER BAIT.
The only baits that I will ever use for trout 🎣 is none other then Berkley powerbait, Berkley gulp alive and Berkley gulp. These are the main three powerbait I will for trout and that I trust only. I do catch a lot more and bigger trout with these Powerbeats.
i use that worm all the time up in the Sierras in California but I've never wacky rigged it I'll have to try it next time I'm up there.
RayLow92 I'm going to intake 2 in July. then Convict and the Virginia lakes
What would you change if you were fishing in a lake?
+macheezm0 I would add more weight depending on the depth, or a jig head.
Does it works in the pond tho?
What region of PA are you in?
Pink neons are hot they steal the fish out there I was using I with a spray on bait shrimp 🍤 flavor and cast it and caught channel cat on pink plastic they strike for the color any fish I think just has to add sometime to the attractant bass with the pink neon to I makes them aggressive attackers
luna
Great video informative and good advise! Thanks for posting!
+Perfecto M thank you! Happy to help!
Sense its such a hot bait can and how would you troll with them?
+D Kat to be honest I'm not entirely sure. I don't do any trolling. Sorry I can't be more of a help!
well I will just have to put one on and give it a go...I will let ya know how it goes.
What is a fake bluegil lure for?
Grear video. Good luck opening day.
Pink worm for Clear or dirty water?
+KickAss17 Gaming I actually use it successfully in all conditions. It's honestly my highest catching rig across the boards for all trout!
I call it a bite indicator.
Do they float? (The pink worms)
+Fred Fable yep, they sure do!
oh..That's nice....
Thanks for the quick response!
10 minutes was a bit long to tell us that you wacky-rig a pink trout worm with a split shot and float - this was more of about 6 minutes worth of content.
how would you fish something like that on a lake?
Do you need the bobber?
+Morgan Smith not all the time. But for the best drift action I prefer it. There are times where i take it off and let it drift without it. Just depends how they like it that day. Hope that helps!
Will this rig/ bait work in lakes?
+Racing Man 10 I've used it successfully in lakes however it ends up being changes somewhat depending on lake depth. You can throw it out there and wait using a slip float, or use a jig head and bounce it back to you. Good luck!
would this work on a city lake
+erick medina it does. You'll just have to modify it slightly.
You should be sliding that work up to the top of the hook. By the knot.
Worm*
You mention this can be used o still water too... how would you fish it in that case?
Still suspend it near the bottom and just give it some twitches to animate it?
Great presentation
Thank you very much!
Where do I buy these
What size hook r u using
I use size 14-16
I use a #8 blackbird sabretooth hook with a chartreuse Lucky Lady worm. Basically same setup but without the float. Seems like the Lucky Lady worms are a little more limber and give it more action wacky rigged. JMO
