Writers trying not to torture Peter (it's impossible)

Good times.

Good times.
Remember the Spider-Men storyline? Good times.
Remember when writers didn't need to push Peter to the point most would commit suicide in order to tell a cool story?...Good times.
I always believed that Superior Spiderman had a lot of potential and that they have continued with Doctor Octopus Redemption and Journey as a Hero and realize the importance of with Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.
@@rivaldovillegas3725 i loved superior spiderman storyline. Easily my second favorite run! But towards the end what I thought would happen was Peter and Otto's minds would merge and though peter would tecnically be back, he now has many of Otto's beliefs, traits, and mannerisms. And in the end have this be the new status quo. I knew it wouldn't happen but i wish it did.
@@madladexe9450 I have some issues and even some issues on Ultimate Spiderman, not gonna lie I wish they did a better job on some characters, but the story is still well, Ultimate! It's the reason why a lot of people still see Peter as that Highschool kid.
@@rivaldovillegas3725 i agree, it wasn't perfect but i've never seen someone say they disliked Ultimate spiderman. And for good reason! The storytelling was Amazing, superior, and spectacular! 1610 peter remains as my favorite version of him
People did not like superior because of the whole body swap thing. But the run ultimately solidified Peter Parker as a hero with indomitable will that refused to perish EVEN after his life was stolen before his eyes. For me, it's a solid story both for peter and doc oc that could have pushed their characters forward. It's such a shame that they threw it all away. The icing on the cake is the superior octopus suit is so badass.
What’s puzzling is why MJ would get with Paul after he pushed away Peter. If I was her, I’d hate him for it and wait for Peter to return.
Must've been a dreadful case of Stockholm Syndrome.
YEAH LIKE ANY SANE PERSON WOULD DO
Because that’s not what happen. The op who made the video lied or didn’t read the story himself. Peter wasn’t pushed by anybody the device he made can only transport 1 person back to their world and he was gonna send mj but the bad guy while goal was to kill Spider-Man and when he was about to kill Peter MJ activated the device and put it on Peter to get him away. Paul was pushing the bad guy in that scene not peter
@@godsfavhitman5814 Still seems wrong on MJ and Paul’s part, she was dating Peter but then they had an affair like they weren’t expecting him to comeback.
fact like it just made her a hoe that she saw Paul push Peter her supposer lover and what she decided to do have kids by the same man and when Peter finally do save her dumb him and stay with Paul, like MJ alway be a bad lover in Peter life and this just made her top 5 worst of character of all times
So basically it's not Peter's fault, it's actually Paul's fault. Peter tried to save him from that dimension, yet he refused and he's the one who's pushing Peter to the portal and went back to his normal 616 timeline, leaving him with MJ. I bet my money that Paul is actually the main villain in this storyline and those kids are actually fake. This is basically a continuation of One More Day, but the writer's decided to add the NTR in this dog shit storyline

With modern writers' obsession with postmodernism and subversion, you'd think by now someone would have given us the ultimate subversive Spiderman story by actually letting Peter be happy for once. But no, the one aspect of Spiderman everyone wants to see go is the only thing certain to remain
I actually think it’s more on marvel and DC’s part than other comics,
Invincible is a good example but a more recent comic called SHAKARA has a very interesting post-human setting. Then again it’s made by 2000ad so of course it’s weird anyways what I’m trying to say it’s more on marvel and DC.
@pnorbert2222 that's words in a order which I now have alot of questions
I got so annoyed at modern writers, I became a writer myself because I want to fix the shit they mess up. I'm working toward my Master's in English Creative Writing and I'd love to take a crack at Spider-man. Like, I don't know, maybe let Peter have a family and let Mayday become Spider-woman/girl. Between Peter, Miles, Miguel, Ghost-Spider, Jessica Drew, Ben Riley, Kaine, the Avengers, she'd have plenty of mentors to learn and succeed.

@@falserizufferezek9394 Thanks. Hopefully I can get to where I might be able to do that. But part of the reason it has been so static is because of executives being scared of change. And what they do allow to change just isn't good.
It’s official, it sucks more to be Spider-Man, than to be Howard the duck.
It sucks to be Howard the Duck? Isn't he like actually super powerful and stuff? I didn't really peg him to be the one to suck at life the most.
It sucks more to be Spider-Man than Batman at this point. Cause, even the dark knight to some extent has life in order better than Spidey does, and he’s no longer rich anymore.
@@kennysemper2719 honestly the only hero I’m on the fence about having a worse life is Bruce banner and the hulk.
And then I’m only on the fence because the two are heroes in the classical sense.
At times banner can be just as much of an inhuman menace as stark, pym, and Richards. And the hulk well when actual satan sees you as a prime vessel for universal genocide maybe general Ross isn’t so off.
Bruce has a worse life but he’s a worse person than Peter so it’s at least proportion.
Peter doesn’t do enough to warrant the crap he gets.
@@biecie LOL, no, unless something DRASTICALLY changed in the last few years that I'm not aware of, Howard is literally just a humanoid Donald Duck who gets treated like a weirdo by a world of "hairless apes" and seems to attract strange creatures like a magnet. Howard the duck is just a cameo character that barely appears in the guardians, wdym? He also appeared in GOGV3 posser
The thing I don't understand is why the comics are so hell bent on keeping Peter and MJ apart. Stan Lee loved the relationship, its the main relationship in the Raimi Trilogy, in the Insomniac games and in the Spider-Verse movies and as far as I am aware, Renew Your Vows is a fan favorite because it ignores One More Day and lets Peter and MJ be happy with a kid. Clearly this is what people want for the character if every popular version of the character ends up with MJ. Besides that, they have Miles now, a younger Spider-Man to take on the ropes so they can literally have Peter settle down with MJ and have Miles fully take on the role but for some reason they aren't taking advantage of the fact that they can have their cake and eat it too. Instead of actually allowing the story to move on, they continue to torture Peter Parker with the same old shit while for Miles, all they can do is have him copy established characters, first Peter himself as he gets a Spider-Verse event, a clone saga and even a Gwen Stacy to date but now they are making alternate Miles who are other Marvel heroes instead. How is it that everything BUT the comics, the originator of these characters and stories, able to be creative and move the character forward? Its so baffling and from what I have seen from the Spider-Verse 2 trailer, everyone's favorite Peter B Parker truly did get back with MJ and has a kid so again, beloved version of Peter, much like the Tobey McGuire version, is with MJ yet the comics are bafflingly opposed to this.
Joe Quesada was the most vocal opponent of Peter and MJs marriage. Wouldn't shock me if he's still pulling strings at Marvel.
Stan didn't like MJ. The fans liked MJ, so he jammed the Peter square into the MJ round hole. Stan himself always preferred Gwen Stacy with Peter, I mean, look it up before you start spreading lies. This is why some writers split up Peter and MJ they share Stan's opinion, as do I. MJ and Peter makes no sense, Felicia and Peter makes more sense, Gwen and Peter, now that is the OTP.
@@Harrison0411
Stan Lee didn't want Peter and MJ tougher. He preferred Peter and Gwen.
@@ryancarter8134 Fair enough, I just looked it up and you are right. I remember reading that he liked the Mary Jane pairing and that's why his Cameo in the PS4 game has him saying "You two were always my favorite." My mistake on that front.

Tbf, it was more likely the editors fault. If the writer made a decision so bad that the editor warns them not to go to conventions, it was prooooobably the editor's idea
Editors have always been a problem in superhero comics
blame them both.
The editor is paul
@@zemox2534it especially sucks cuz editors’ are fucking cowards and they let the writers take the blame.
I wish Zeb Wells responded to Nick Lowe telling him to avoid cons, that he (Lowe) himself should have been avoiding cons longer than he ever has, since Lowe’s been consistently fucking with Peter’s love life long after Joe Quesada (the architect of OMD) had any real (provable) influence on Spider-Man comics.
We might be wrong in assuming that getting rid of Nick Lowe would get rid of all the obstacles In between Peter and MJ, but at this point it wouldn’t hurt. And frankly he’s been on the book too long anyway, very few writers/editors have the kind of stamina to stay on a line of comics as long as Nick has without starting to burn out.
If disappointment came in comicbook panels 🙂

Stan Lee wanted Peter to end up with Gwen Stacy in some way. I know making Peter and Black Cat end up together was the wish of some fans as well and I like that but at the end of the day from the 3 girls to be honest Gwen was the best one. MJ have some comics where she is insufferable, Black Cat in some comics only likes Spiderman and not Peter Parker. So I share the same opinion Stan Lee had, that Peter should somehow end up with Gwen Stacy at least in one comic run at least one it could even be for example Spider Gwen since she lost her Peter Parker.

@@symphonixblades Rather see Parker with Betty Brant or Jennifer Walters...
My biggest issue with this is that, Peter did absolutely nothing to deserve any of the bad things that came his way. Absolutely none of it was his fault and none of it progresses his character. Marvel isn’t smart enough to write a story that intricate, not anymore. Think of your worst case scenario, then double it and you’ll probably have the writing decisions down to a T.
Worse than the man pretending to befriend and later betraying and outing Peter's identity to the world and putting him in a position where he cannot think clearly and thus making him break the multiverse and then after that losing his aunt May and his friends (the latter because he needs to cast the memory wipe spell to fix the multiverse).
A great out for Marvel. Print it!

Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to turn Ben Reily into a villain? Did the writers see Batman comics and when they saw the Thomas Wayne from the Flashpoint timeline coming back as someone trying to break Bruce, though "hey, this looks dope, maybe we can pull something like this..". Two things:
First, Peter Parker's weird mandate of being single/having rock bottom worked at first because he was just a teenager who got a chance in life to get better but sacrificed it for the greater good, the man has earned his well deserved happiness. For those who say that it's impossible to be a superhero and a happy successful character freaking Reed Richards & Sue Storm are proof that it's possible (granted Reed has done a lot of questionable things during his tenure as a father/husband) also the best example I can offer you it's actually from the Distinguish Competition: Wally West; the man recent run is basically asirt of compensation for all the crap he was given for so long (Specially that God awful Heroes in Crisis...Jesus that storyline was terrible) and it's now a happyly family man with a newborn just recently arrived (and stolen because this is comic book land) has a decent job, he's respected by both the community, His superhero friends and considered the best one among his Flash Family, so if Wally can why is Peter not allowed to?

There are so many ways to undo this, my only concern is the Quesada acolytes inside Marvel passing from the scene, which may take a while. Look, I'm gonna say what I've been saying : Walk away in silence. Don't light up the forums, and give them a laugh. When the next series comes out, wait to hear that it's gotten good again before heading back. Don't reward them with sales, don't reward them with shouts. As the old joke goes, pay them no mind, in fact, don't pay them at all.
I will indulge by saying: A random comic book-depiction cultist is responsible for all this crap? You couldn't have it all BE Norman?
But that's just it. That's the nature of superhero comics, even if the next writer advances a character into the next step or gets fixed or whatever, they'll only just get regressed or have a soft reboot or go back to basics with either the next run coming after or some time down the line, Immortal Hulk is a perfect example of this. So it's ultimately worthless, that's why I advocate for superhero comics to start ending, it's time (but only after, if necessary, having a run that wraps up all loose ends and everything into a bow i.e. a cartharsis/epilogue) and then yes end it. Otherwise it's the same cycle of advancing a character and then setting them back over and over again. Not to mention most of them are already creatively bankrupt anyways lol.
Superhero comics should not end but writers need to stop regressing characters after they take over a comic. The need to go back to status quo is only hurting the characters and their development. Move forward not backwards.
@@zemox2534What you're describing won't work, though. The second people get their big win and our characters are allowed some closure once in their lives, you've killed off a ton of reader investment.

I lowkey have a theory they are making Peter’s stories so trash that Miles becomes the default Spider-Man in the mainline books. Wouldn’t put it pass them!
I had the impression they were always actively and openly attempting that and playing the long game until an entire generation grows up on Miles first and sees Spider-Man as the older outdated Spider-Man like Jay Garrick and Hal Jordan.
@@knightofkorbin888 that can easily be cured with a viewing of the 90s spiderman cartoon.
They can try all they want. Unless they can somehow erase peters greatest stories from existence they'll never make another spiderman that popular.
It's like new Disney star wars. In their attempts to kill the past they destroyed their future and create a plague of nostalgia for the old days.
Nah they wouldn't do that
@Balmung ever seen that taco commercial with the girl who looks like dora the explorer?
The tag line was "why not both?"
@Balmung bro this is the marvel editorial staff we’re talking about? Don’t try to understand their logic…it’ll just hurt your brain 😔
This "Nothing goes right with spiderman's life" is literally the most over use concept in fiction
And that's saying a lot because I've read Wattpad amour shipping fanfics a few years back☠️
I read a Reddit comment that said, what if this whole arc is just Chameleon and Mysterio messing with peter and MJ. and honestly i hope someone would write that. It would erase this clusterflip and give them a traumatic event for the two to get over together.
Geez, it's like every time Spidey gets handed to another writer, each one goes "How can I make his life WORSE than the last person did?"
One of my main gripes with this is why did he steal from the fantastic four instead of getting their help originally sure their busy a lot and depending on the writer Reed is basically a robot, but I’m sure if they knew the situation they’d help out! They plus these guys go through dimensions on complete accident so often it wouldn’t surprise me if they were at one point in the dimension Peter was. Not to mention he’d have help from the thing and human torch, and protection from Sue.
The plot needed it to happen so logic be Damned. Honestly most of the characters that tried to do him have done the exact same thing.
Why didnt he asked deadpool for help
@@alchemistofsteel8099 pretty sure Deadpool had his memory wiped plus dunno what he’d do
its crazy to think that zeb wells has written spiderman comics since 2002.... how do you have that much expertise and still mess up?
This comic decision is very frustrating. Zeb Wells is making me miss Dan Slott. That's how bad he messed up. I find it hilarious how John Romita Jr has now officially worked on the best and worst modern run of Spider-Man. I miss the writing of J Michael Stracyzynski so much.
Writers have often complained about Peter and MJ's relationship, especially him being married. They seem incapable of writing him as a mature adult.
They're a bunch of white beta male geeks who can't get a women. As are most you lot in the comment section no offense
Imho huge opportunity wasted. To me the best thing about Spider-Man in many adaptation is that is one of the most relatable superheroes because he's the one that more than many others have to balance being a superhero and his normal life with problems that anyone in real life can have, and yet it seems that most of the time the writers make up the worst shit to picture Peter and MJ's relationship after marrying as a bad one just for the sake of it.
And in the end, it's just on HOW you write it, just look at Into The SpiderVerse, where Peter B. Parker and MJ are separated, that is one hell of a way to write a breakup because it's realistic, it was caused by a conflict that many people have in irl relationships and had a (we can assume) mature fix to said conflict, it fits the character so well.
Here we have that a random guy basically pushed Peter in a different dimension so he could bone MJ, ffs....
@@alessandromazza4557 Not the first time either. A while back, Marvel retconned their marriage out of existence, just so they could have MJ work for and sleep with Tony Stark.
don’t let them cook. DONT LET THEM COOK!
So, he does anything to save, not only the woman he loves, but two innocents, from a villain and a weird magical dimension. Not only them both, but the entire marvel universe now hates him for that. Woah, this guys just wants an excuse for torturing him. Amazing
Edit: also now that I think, mary jane with the guy that trapped her there? Is this some kind of joke?
So basically Zeb not only made a mediocre to bad run….he broke one of the most fundamental rules of writing….don’t create false expectations to sell something
I feel like as an editor, if you know a story will Cause enough fan out rage that you need to tell the Writter to avoid social media and conventions, you should Step in and make him change the story to avoid said out rage.
Unfortunately, I think the thought process at marvel comics is different nowadays, as it seems like they are chasing that outrage so they can get more sales...
#boycotttheamazingspiderman if a comic is this bad, why keep buying it. You’re rewarding marvel for intentionally making bad stories. So don’t buy it. Marvel even admitted that this was a bad story when they told Zeb to not go to any more comic cons while writing this. Don’t reward intentional bad work.
@@YourGuyMax Betting on outrage for sale does not seem like a solid long term strategy
I for one, don't mind if characters suffers in any media, but apparently some writers mistook suffering for character development. I believe Invincible suffers more than most heroes, but fans don't go for the writer because the suffering is the part of the storyline that engages and develops the personality of the characters, it pushes them forward. And don't even get me started on manga like Berserk, and majority of seinen manga.
A apparently these writers got it backwards, give the hero more suffering and then undoing their character developments. From what I know since I've read One More Day, Spider Man got more suffering just for the sake of it, because the writers think more misery is cooler or better or something. imagine undoing character development just for the ake of more suffering.
Don't forget how he massacred my fav character Ben Reilly
Right!!!!
You would think Marvel would treat their biggest character with a little more respect than this.
imma be real he shouldn't just not show up at conventions I better not see him in a dark alley either 😔✨
I’m pretty sure Paul just wanted MJ for himself, so he sent Peter back on purpose for this exact thing to happen.
How was Paul strong enough to push Spider-Man through a portal being a normal human man?
I mean it’s pretty easy, Peter is about 167 pounds if he’s not really focused on planting himself on the ground anyone can push him.

Technically, they RUINED the franchise during OMD! That was pretty much the end of any growth for Peter . They should have just pulled a DC and just started the franchise all over again .
Marvel apparently does not do reboots and they're gonna die for it mark my words.

The only part that was good was Tombstone tbh. Genuinely good writing for that character who’s usually pretty one-note
The worst thing they could do now is make Paul a canon event that occurs throughout EVERY Spider Universe.
What a mess. Looks like Marvel hates Peter Parker almost as much as they hate Ben Reilly. I stopped reading after the Beyond storyline and now I’m glad I did.

I’m currently collecting all the Nick Spencer spider-man comics. A waaaaaaay superior run for spider-man and marvel shot itself in the head getting rid of him. Especially cause the invincible art fits the spider-man universe so well.
This is how it always goes lol. Spencer's run started beind disliked halfway through. I am sure that if the next run is bad, there'll be some people saying they want Wells back. Same thing happened with Spencer and Slott, Slott and Straczynski, Straczynski and writers before him. This is not defending Wells run, I think it is utterly stupid (though I do think people calling for him never to be allowed to work on a comic again should really read any of his other work, this is his first real mess up), but people just have this cycle of nostalgia for something a few years ago that was hated when it came out.
Zeb Wells best never come to Australia or I’m throwing snakes at him
You guys know that the writers at marvel actually hate the fans, right? I'm serious. They've said as much in interviews.
What exactly did they say?
How close this is to Invincible's soft reboot which became an illusionary recap is uncanny even down to the love interest raising kids as the twist.
I guess he really was that big of a fan huh? I hope Spidey fans are also lucky enough to get the takeback tho'

I don't claim to be a good writer, but in my upcoming Spider-Verse story, Parker is a leader. My story doesn't focus on his personal life too much, but if you've watched Spectacular Spider-Man, you have an idea of how he acts in my story
I think linkara hit the crux of the issue the marvel editors want Spider-Man to be in his early years forever but are too cowardly to reboot him so he lives in a cursed loop that only gets more and more obnoxious with time

Freaking Paul...
They couldn't have just let Nick Spencer fix the series. Marvel editorial and many of its writers DO hate Peter Parker, or at the very least they resent his continued popularity and the fact people still love him. He's a "toxic straight white male," and they resent the fact they can't just reolace him entirely with Miles Morales bscause Peter Parker basically carries the entire publishing line on his shoulders at this point because of the collectors, so if they can't just discard him, they'll do whatever they can to ruin him until they make the audience hate him. That's almost certainly true for some of them. Others simply can't admit that they made a massive, character breaking mistake with OMD, adamantly refuse to renig on that decision, and choose to instead go out of their way to thunb their noses at the audience by doing these things to Peter and MJ. I personally take it as a malicious display of dominance, bragging that they have the toys and can do (just about) whatever they want with him, and no amounts of protest from the aidience us gonna change that. Naturally, they can afford to be idiotic in their lack of good business sense because they have Uncle Mickey fronting the bill. They're so irrelevant in terms of overall profit that they don't need the audience to exist. They exist to maintain Disney's IP farm.
Modern mainstream comics are trash, and thank God there are still at least some good stuff out there at all. Unfortunately, this book definitely isn't one of them. I'm resigned to just reading the good stuff from the past and supporting the original comics being made indeoendently at this point. Hopefully the big 2 will get back into shape, but I'm not holding my breath.
You're right. Most likely, there's also a political component in all this mess. And so much arrogance by the writers and editors who keep ignoring the fans' requests.
I just think it’s a shit story I don’t politics have anything to do with it

Just don't be so sure. 100% i bet they will ruin that relationship too. They just thing Peter being sad and miserable is something good for the business, but itbis not, they just don't understand the conception of Spiderman's character. All these problems, sadness and misery in Peter's life are not just only to make him sad, miserable and ruin hus life. They are there to be obstacles in his life, which he overcome every single time. That's why his comics always were inspiration for better futute in someone's life, inspiration that no matter the obstacles and problems there is always hope at the end, there is always hope for happy end.
