Brought a PS3 super-slim from an eBay auction for £30 including £10 shipping, purely to run the play tv software for a cheap freeview recorder for my room with the media remote. The auction clearly stated 12GB PS3. So I thought okay it’s probably got no HDD in it and I’d put my own in. Some one on the market place on FB, had a spare compatible HDD that was 320GB that I was going to pick up as it was local. But when the PS3 arrived I took the side panel off and saw it had a HDD, so I removed the blue screw and to my amazement it was a 500GB drive. 😮 I’m guessing it’s a 12GB PS3 super slim, that had a 500GB drive put in at some point. How can I tell it was originally sold as 12GB?

Very informative, dude. I only have 1 question, apart from the rubber tipped gloves(What's up with that?)...Why is the 12 GB flash disabled? Couldn't that be used for save game storage?
Nah there's no move system、 the PlayStation automatically save save data to the hard drive、 you can't change that without jailbreak and you can't move the files to a flash drive also the rubber tipped gloves are unnecessary, considering this is the only video of this channel i've watched it could be a thing he just does

Alem beats You can use your old hard drive, but it will be re-formatted when you put it in your new PS3 and you will need the system update on a flash drive. But if you have an extra $50 you really should upgrade to a 1TB HDD, I'm actually thinking about a 1.75TB HDD since I was reading that they can work (still don't have conclusive proof if this is true), since I am running out of space on my 1TB SSHD (solid state hybrid drive) (which I would not recommend because of slight complications that could cause trouble if you don't know what to watch for). But that loading speed is worth it for me, I just have to supervise anyone that uses my ps3 to make sure no one does anything my SSHD doesn't like. So, yeah, use a regular 1TB HDD if you have the money, look for one with 64MB cache for slightly improved loading speeds.

My friend has some funky 6TB HDD adaptor for his PS4, but like my PS3's SSHD, it has some issues and is one of those "do I really want to bother with that" choices that you will have to make, I know 2.5" 2TB HDD work in PS4 no problem. And I think there was something about an update for PS4 to be able to use a USB external drive like the Wii U, meaning the 6TB funky adaptor is an unnecessary complication, but I think my friend might be trying to make his a 12TB PS4 now, since he has the 6TB adaptor for his HDD bay. TLDR just get a 2.5" 2TB HDD in your PS4 and wait for the patch for external hard drives for the additional 6TB, unless you need 12TB because 8TB simply isn't enough. @Tiredofdumbfuks it's kind of a waste of money tbh (unless all you wanted was faster download speeds、 that's all it really does for a ps3) also、SSHD is no faster for the same reason. The ps4、 however 、does have an improvement when using these.

+Hriday Gohel (Hr.G) It needs to be FAT32 and to use an internal FAT32 drive usb on a PC/Laptop you need to use a hard drive caddy. In FAT32 in a single individual file(say a movie mp4/mkv file) must not be more than 4GB in size but you can copy as many files sized less than 4GB as much your HDD has. Same is applicable to any storage media on FAT32.
@@blulere No, I'm just a guy who replaced my PS3's HDD with a 1TB SSHD drive for maximum performance! Hey I have a old har drive from laptop and it fit with bracket and my old hard drive have some information. So PS3 will earse it or keep it. Please help
If you have a bracket, then you probably have a 90-120gb model. Yes, it will erase the PS3's boot data. You'll have to install it from the web (or if you have SATA wire) plug it into a computer and copypaste the files.
You dont need a USB drive with the 12gb Flash model because the storage is the built in 12gb memory card like an SD card, and for other systems you also dont need to wipe your USB drive either. All you need is the PS3 and UPDATE folders and your update file. You can use either Fat32 or Xfat.
Karima Hamza well, almost all games need to install additional data to be played, and save games are also a thing, and DLC (but optional of course). 12 Gb will not cut it for a lot of games, and it will also help the speed of the console (especially for digitally downloaded games) when loading.
12 gigabytes to 500 gigabytes will not stop freezing and lag in games, but you will be able to download games slightly faster (due to higher grade and the mechanical stangeness of hdd's) and download more games to your ps3

yes, make a backup to a flash drive
A 64gb flash drive will work?
I Just did What you did but ik i start my ps3 nothing shows up
To move the data to the harddrive
I Still in flash drive mode
How do i getoond to the 100 gig harddrive???
Are you sure you have the 12 gb version? Any of the versions with a hard drive already installed will require the OS to be installed again after replacing the hard drive. Otherwise I'm not sure... it should ask you to move the data over by itself once you've started the system again.
Great vid. Mate im Dylan from Australia and i have a lil queation dude if i uprade my 12gb Superslim to an 500gb superslim with a harddrive are my old games and my saved things in gta story mode lost? Could it get deleted or somthin'? I m afraid i dont want to delete anything
As long as you have all your data saved on the 12gb flash storage on the PS3, it should move everything over to your new drive without any data loss. Just make sure you back everything up just in case.
+Matthew Luedecke and how to do that?
Matthew Luedecke hey quick question so earlier in January 2017 i bought a new superslim (500gb) because my old superslim which ive had since March 2014 (also 500gb) crapped out on me it always shuts down by its self after being on for a few minutes saying the system has become hot but i always inspect the system to make sure but it didnt feel hot to me (weird tho) lol anyways now that i have a new superslim is it possible to just remove my hardrive from my old superslim (it has all my saved game data, trophies, movies, music, photos, dlc games etc.) and insert it into the new game cosole so pls respond to my comment it would make my day anyways y'all have a blessed day happy New Years & stay safe :D
larry fiame no it doesn't
Copy everything to a usb. Or cloud storage if you have PS+.
Hey, I am using a used hard drive, so what should the format of the hard drive be - MS-DOS or something else.
Please Help
any 2.5" SATA will work.
@@Trainboy1EJR that's not what he asked
use fat32 or exfat、 ntfs or ms dos will not work
@@blulere When he said MS-DOS, I thought he was asking if a PATA hard drive would work, because the PS2 needed a PATA, but the PS3 needs a SATA.
@@Trainboy1EJR ms-dos and hard drives have no relation. ms dos doesn't support hard drives by default, mainly just floppys.
will inserting hdd void the warranty of console??
if you use a 12gb model of the ps3, inserting a new hard drive is expected and will not void warranty.
can we put any hard drive or only the ps3 hard drive
ABHISHEK ABJ hey did u get any answers
Same doubt
@Tiredofdumbfuks ssd's aren't advised keep that in mind
@Tiredofdumbfuks it's kind of a waste of money tbh (unless all you wanted was faster download speeds、 that's all it really does for a ps3) also、SSHD is no faster for the same reason. The ps4、 however 、does have an improvement when using these.
Can i use Toshiba 2.5 500gb hard disc(ps3 super slim 12 gb)????
*wat*
i feel like something is jumbled up here
Can i insert my old ps3(500gb) hard drive in my new ps3(12gb)?
Yes
I cannot thank you enough for your video, until seeing this I wasn't aware that I could fit an internal HDD into my old PS3 super slim.
I've been on eBay, purchased a 500gig drive for £28 and fitted it.
Thank you once again.
ua-cam.com/video/9V8mykq2ZhA/v-deo.html
is pc hardisk also used to upgrade space in ps3
pc sata drives will work, but you can find special sata drives for the ps3 which are more optimised and faster
what should be width of Hard disk
2.5 inch? plz replay i want to upgrade it
Yes 2.5inch Hard Drive or SSD. More commonly known as laptop hard drive
+Daksham Gosai tx pal and it should be fat32 formated then how can put videos, music, etc. and fat32 has capacity of 2GB only
+Hriday Gohel (Hr.G) It needs to be FAT32 and to use an internal FAT32 drive usb on a PC/Laptop you need to use a hard drive caddy. In FAT32 in a single individual file(say a movie mp4/mkv file) must not be more than 4GB in size but you can copy as many files sized less than 4GB as much your HDD has. Same is applicable to any storage media on FAT32.
+Daksham Gosai thank u vmuch
@@hridayawesomeheart9477 what do you mean 2gb only? fat32 goes up to 16tb in size and videos, music, etc. is automatically sorted
I think mine is an 8gb does it work the same?
Jennifer Bibi the lowest is 12
@Throw Away for me i have the 12GB but all games deleted and usable space is 8GB to 9GB
@@c4keizerg354 that's the boot partition, it makes the ps3 work
Guys what hard drive are we using
i need help
can the flash drive be aby model?
eg: (Toshiba,Segate) etc..
any 2.5" SATA hard drive will work.
as long as it fits、 it will work
@@Trainboy1EJR are you a bot?
@@blulere No, I'm just a guy who replaced my PS3's HDD with a 1TB SSHD drive for maximum performance! I'll probably switch to a 1.5tb HDD because I'm running out of space and a 1.5tb is the largest capacity drive a PS3 can take, actually 1.75tb is the largest, but you can't find them anymore. Some sort of software glitch prevents it from actually using a 2tb HDD.
@@Trainboy1EJR the size of your hard drive doesn't affect performance, the grade does, and that's not what i meant
you can also use backspace to erase the thing that you said about 1.5 t being the max capacity, and also the maximum capacity is actually 5 t
What type of hard drive r we supposed to buy
a 2.5 inch sata drive
If I back up my hard drive and upgrade it, Will I lose any games downloaded from my friends account?
As long as you back up your files on a flash drive or external hard drive, you should be able to move them back to your system after you've upgraded.
It depends on how you download them.
From the PS Store? Sign in and redownload.
From the console? Make a backup.
I can put a 80gb Fat ps3 hdd in an ultraslim??
Yes, but with the lower prices of hdds now, you might as well buy a much larger drive.
yes but it may be a tad bit slow
can you install a 3.5" hdd instead?
No
Nope
@John outdated means no longer supported.
the super slim never supported a 3.5" drive, please word your sentences correctly next time
thank you very much
Is it need to format hdd to fat32?
Fat32 or Ex-fat will work.
The drive will not be recognised if you use anything else.
You will need to format the drive if you haven't been online for about 4-5 years lol
@@blulereno exfat wont work
I bought an external 500gb hdd thinking that it would work... mistake were made :)
kan i used my laptop 120gb hard drive?????
as long as it is a 2.5 inch sata drive
When ever I put it in it freezes plz help
@Throw Away you cant
Don't u need to install memory stick
Shaukat Ali I'm assuming you're talking about ram? If so, then no, the PS3 has it's memory built in.
Nah ps3 has got that covered for ya (unless you break it)
THANK YOU.
Thanks very big..
thanks man
Hey I have a old har drive from laptop and it fit with bracket and my old hard drive have some information. So PS3 will earse it or keep it. Please help
Make sure to backup those data before inserting it otherwise will be formated without prompt
If you have a bracket, then you probably have a 90-120gb model. Yes, it will erase the PS3's boot data. You'll have to install it from the web (or if you have SATA wire) plug it into a computer and copypaste the files.
where u buy from
amazon us i think
my ps3 aint reading my 500gb wd blue laptop internal hdd
what is the format of the drive?
is this upgrading help to play high gb games??
Yeahp

Do u lose ur acounts if u replace it?

unless you have 90 or 120 gb model then you have to reinstall the boot files and re sign in to psn but other than that noep [s
TNX BRO
thank you and now I know and knowing is half the battle GI Joe
Can you just come do this for me .-.
it's not that hard
if this is a joke i know
You need a 1,2,4,8,16, or 32 gb USB drive and format it to FAT32
No you don't ;)
You dont need a USB drive with the 12gb Flash model because the storage is the built in 12gb memory card like an SD card, and for other systems you also dont need to wipe your USB drive either. All you need is the PS3 and UPDATE folders and your update file. You can use either Fat32 or Xfat.
is the ps3 12 gb lag and freeze in games or not
whats the diffrent between it (upgraded to 500GB) and super slim 500GB !!
Whats the gloves for ??
Don't want leave any finger-prints on that stolen PS3 Super Slim console ?.......Also after all that dirty hard work did the console work playing a game with that new HHD ???????????
Is this compatible?

that question lies within Google and not UA-cam... i know that Google owns UA-cam but one is a search engine and the other is a streaming platform
