Almost forgot to thank but Thank You. Today I just received my ps3 and then as soon as I couldn’t download ps2 games on it, I hastily checked to see the storage capacity and I was shocked to see that it was 12gb when I actually thought it was the same as my old one which was 500gb. Watch out for these sellers on ebay because they didn’t detail any of this. With your video my fears were resolved. I was actually shocked to see when opening the side panel there was nothing inside. So with your tutorial I took out the storage unit from my old ps3 and slid unto the new and PROBLEM RESOLVED.
I just got a used PS3 Super Slim. While it only has 12GB of flash storage, I heard Super Slims always use SATA III (not SATA II). Without searching online, what's the largest hard drive size this console recognizes? I've heard 1.5TB, but has anyone successfully used a bigger one? I can't find a clear answer anywhere. I'm looking for someone who has tried a really big drive.

First of all, very good video. I have a spare slim PS3 in addition to a super slim I have just bought second hand. Will the hard drive bracket that holds the HDD in the older, slim PS3 fit in the super slim PS3, or will I need to buy the bracket from Amazon to keep it in place?
Should fit for the slot fine, there. Like $3 so don't overpay lol

Thanks for this (yes I know it's now 2023). I've got an old 12gig PS3 sat on top of the PS4 in the sitting room, I had no idea all this time that it was only flash memory & just presumed that it had a smaller harddrive inside. Good video, to the point 👍
Same, when i found out it was just a flash memory i was confused but glad that there is a place for a hard drive upgrade otherwise i would have been sad.

@@mattsmedley.onehandedgamin9029 Nice! I already got an HDD 1 TB one that belong to my laptop but i have kept it in a drawer since i replaced it with an SSD for my laptop so i can just format it and buy a bracket for the PS3 easily.

@@ChrisG-xv2gi Once you insert it inside the ps3 it should be fine I still didn’t insert mine yet I ordered the caddy couple of days ago I will receive it at the start of July unfortunately plus bought an external hard drive for ps1 & ps3 games

So you are saying that if the capacity of storage in the ps3 super slim is any more than 12gb then it will have a hard drive installed? Well my local game store is selling a 16 GB model for 70$ and I really want to get it today. So that's cool.

Brought a PS3 super-slim from an eBay auction for £30 including £10 shipping, purely to run the play tv software for a cheap freeview recorder for my room with the media remote. The auction clearly stated 12GB PS3. So I thought okay it’s probably got no HDD in it and I’d put my own in. Some one on the market place on FB, had a spare compatible HDD that was 320GB that I was going to pick up as it was local. But when the PS3 arrived I took the side panel off and saw it had a HDD, so I removed the blue screw and to my amazement it was a 500GB drive. 😮 I’m guessing it’s a 12GB PS3 super slim, that had a 500GB drive put in at some point. How can I tell it was originally sold as 12GB?
Say the drive is in the wrong file format, will the PS3/4 format it correctly for you?

Is it need to format hdd to fat32?
Fat32 or Ex-fat will work. The drive will not be recognised if you use anything else. You will need to format the drive if you haven't been online for about 4-5 years lol

I think you can open it up from the bottom (which voids warranty). I am having the same problem too, I'm just not bother to unscrew anything because i'm not a mechanic, and it's kinda hard to do the unscrewing job.

Would it be a problem if a piece of paper is touching the circuit board on the hard drive
as long as it dont get wet. paper is an insulator, which means it deflects electricity. if water (conductive) touched paper (insulative) then the paper becomes conductive.

@Tiredofdumbfuks it's kind of a waste of money tbh (unless all you wanted was faster download speeds、 that's all it really does for a ps3) also、SSHD is no faster for the same reason. The ps4、 however 、does have an improvement when using these.

Samsung 830 SSD 128GB works without problems, so SSD is no problem.

You said that it'll just move the storage from the flash into the hardrive by itself, but I've watched other YT vids saying you need to backup your data and download an update to then out put on a USB from a computer to then plug back into the PS3? Don't know what to do aye
I think that applies for the ones that already came with a small Hardrive...but you've probably got a 16GB flash drive floating around so might as well backup regardless.
Mike David i chucked it in then all it did was asked me to move the flash storage into hardrive so I didn’t have to backup anything :D

Hey I have a old har drive from laptop and it fit with bracket and my old hard drive have some information. So PS3 will earse it or keep it. Please help
Make sure to backup those data before inserting it otherwise will be formated without prompt
If you have a bracket, then you probably have a 90-120gb model. Yes, it will erase the PS3's boot data. You'll have to install it from the web (or if you have SATA wire) plug it into a computer and copypaste the files.
