Mixed feelings about this. I am a classic puma owner and what I loved was the space upgrade, fuel economy and having a very very similar sound to the classic puma. It’s supposed to feel the bumpers and the road, honestly is hard to explain but if you own a puma and you see and feel the puma suv you will spend all your money in the highest edition with all the accessories.
Being a racing driver and having driven the Puma I don't feel that the steering is numb at all . That engine in sport mode doesn't lag as you pointed and then zips you ahead. I don't think you really know how to drive a turbo car. They all have lag unless it's fitted with a compressor. I found your review a bit subjective but nice .
Never been a lover of underpowered, small cars. They just don't have the comfort level of larger vehicles, especially for those with bad backs. This will be good for people who don't care what they got the short straw of the new car world.
This is probably the most critical review I’ve seen if the puma. May be the transmission/engine config offered in Australia. Generally seems to review well.
Am currently looking at the puma and click on almost anything I see on UA-cam to find out more, I am in the UK so I suppose this car with your spec isnt here, but its surprising and interesting to see the different specs you have compared to uk, I suggest you have a look at some UA-cam vids from uk and you'll see what I mean. It's because your vid it's such an entertaining vid that I kept watching though, well done, I thoroughly enjoyed it 👍
That was a fun review to watch, but why would you rate the engine just based on that combination with the automatic transmition? If you don´t like it, then just get a manual transmition. I feel like this review is too biased towards AT drivers. 1.0 EcoBoost is a fabulous engine.
I think both share the same platform of the ford fiesta , the puma use a slightly newer version of that platform , i think the puma is a bit more spacious despite the fact that both considered to be in the same segment .
Dropped my Falcon off for a service this morning and the dealer gave me one of these as a loan car. As I accelerated from the Ford dealer I thought "WTF is wrong with the engine?" It is so noisy and rough at low revs like a bearing is faulty. And the car is brand new showing 20km on the odometer. It is no surprise the Ranger Car Company has problems selling anything but Rangers these days.
This is a raised Fiesta. Juke is a raised Micra. Toyota chr is a raised corolla. Different platform sizes. 1.0l in manual is par for the course in uk for a super mini and even 100hp version is peppy enough (in fiesta)
They said that these new cars don’t have an issue with the clutch but I call bs on that I felt it when test driving the vehicle too. They had been sued from clutch issues last time.
Only real review is owning one .. I’ve had my st-line x 155 in white for 6 months .. put 12k on it and I can genuinely say I love the thing … I’m still shocked how nippy it is for a 1.0L… had it to 136mph and the acceleration is great .. sounds great when you thrash it … I’ve literally driven this car hard every day from picking it up from the dealer and it’s never put a foot wrong and still makes me smile
Enjoyed your review. Amazing how the specs differ from market to market. Just ordered the STline X Vignale here in the UK with a 6 speed manual which has the same engine but 155bhp output. It also is mild hybrid which takes the lull away before the turbo kicks in. Looking forward to it. We only get 3 yr warranty too 😩
Just so you know a test in the US has found none of the vehicles equipped with AEB actually stopped in time to avoid a collision. They minimised the impact.
Should this vehicle be sold in North America, you can bet that Ford will manufacture it with lower quality components than the European version. Ford and GM always do that.
Still got nightmare from the power shift (powershit) dct and the woeful customer service and to think I never owned one but got put off by the horror stories
All early-adopters of dual clutch transmissions had problems and some (looking at you Ford and VW) handled it very poorly. Most of those issues have been resolved in the intervening years and this gearbox is very likely fine.
Not bad effort by Ford, by the segment is so competitive, so I don’t think it will be on top of the sales chart. But awesome review as always, Richard.
Joskj j The difference between a sedan/Hatchback etc and a crossover is that a crossover is a blend between SUV and car. It’s in the middle. So because this sits higher than a hatch/sedan and is SUVesque it’s a crossover because it’s neither an SUV or a hatch.
Should have used the 1.5t 3cyl end from the focus then it would have been a fun engaging car to drive would have sold a lot more .the way it is now I'll bet it will be a sales flop like the rest of fords vehicles apart from ranger and mustang
Or the 115kw 6-speed manual powertrain that the European market gets on this (it seems to also have better fuel economy?), but there is also a Puma ST coming with the Fiesta ST powertrain but not sure if that one is coming to Australia either.

That's fun to watch. Your reviews are significantly better
your style of presenting is gold, way better than those 2 dimensional reviewers with no character. Awesome vid!
The face of the entry level Puma looks better than the more expensive variants. Usually it's the other way round
the ST-Line same as the one reviewed is the best looking!

Ford duel clutch autos give me Vietnam war flashbacks
Can y’all please make a Richard Berry playlist on your channel...

I get the high roofs in SUV's but fail to see why they all ride so high? What's that for? Bounding over shopping trolleys at Wollies?
Base model Puma looks best
Which is more quirky, Ford Puma or the reviewer?
Great review, nonetheless, Richard.
The mid-range ST Line looks the best.
I wonder why Australia doesn't get the 6-speed manual mild hybrid engine variant like we do in Europe?
we are not a big market here so they just give us the rubish the famous ford DSG
Mark Sweet the powersh!t transmission?
@@marksweet8740 Completely different transmission.
Dude you legit are so cool and funny lol... awesome review.
review, i love this car en hopefully i got one in september ❤
It was fun and informative. Thanks.
Just got this as a rental car, can confirm the car gives me Tom Cruise vibes.
Also "Hang on, this one has a flat top" killed me xD

Review the Ford Escape 2020 or the Peugeot 2008 2020. They are both coming soon.
Can't beat CC's But what is the engine size is it 1.2 and 1.5? Because it has a diesel? It depends on Australia.
Ford needs to get the GHIA sporty trim instead of the unnecessary padded vigniale
In the UK we get all Manual gearboxes, No Auto option.
ST also coming soon with a 1.5 3 cylinder putting out 197bhp & 230nm
Peugeot 2008 will be the only small suv i consider buying
And you’d be the only one constantly taking back to the dealer for expensive repairs
Love your reviews ,thank you again
I bought a Puma ST Line X Hybrid a month ago. In Italy though. Much better than what's available in Australia. I can get 25 km/litre.
Super review. Easy to follow and honest.
Glad to see no plastic cladding on this one at least. Looks so much better without it.
Your reviewing style is always entertaining 👍🏼

Smaller than the Escape, we have the EcoSport in the US. Is this the European/ Oceanian alternative? Or is this smaller?

A 3 cylinder with a Ford DCT transmission. Sounds absolutely terrifying
This would be a buy.... if it was $5k cheaper and had a manual. Basically it's just a hatchback on high springs.
Love your way of presentation. Quirky and humorous. Just what we need in 2020 👍🏻🍸

😄😄love the review
Crackin' me up as always Mr Berry
I liked Richard's face expressions than the Puma itself.
I got my Puma yesterday. And yes, I do feel jerking when accelerating.☹️
They said that these new cars don’t have an issue with the clutch but I call bs on that I felt it when test driving the vehicle too. They had been sued from clutch issues last time.
Common to all DCT.

Your a great reviewer
👍❤👍Thanks mate.....
1 litre engine is too small for a suv. Even CHR updated it to a 1.8 hybrid
Considering this is being sold along with ecosport means they'll launch a new ecosport
Looks good..and different style...it attracts.
That being said it’s better than its rivals for driving
Can we get the Automatic in the UK?
If only #Ford had brought in its mHEV with 6-speed manual transmission varient as well.
IFF only...
0:53 What's wrong with it?

You could have extended to to 4 & 5 years within the first year of ownership...
Gear box is from Volkswagen DSG
The upcoming Toyota Yaris Cross and Corolla Cross come with Hybrids. It will be a bummer if they do not offer a hybrid option
Hey... Send a hello to Brazil...
This guy cracked me up
Just don't option it with the sunroof and rear head room would be ok for a 6ft tall person behind their own driving position.
The fuel economy is not bad, it’s nearly as good as my old 1984 Honda city which was a lot lighter with a 1.2 litre 4bcylinder engine.
Is that box squeezing?

WOWOWOW
Is it for lndia also.Agood appearance car.
Great review... which one is better nissan qashqai or for puma?thanks!
cx-3
Wi'll it come to india.
BUT INDIANS LOVE NISSAN CUBE
Most reviewers rate the Ford Puma much higher than he does.......must be a Holden fan!!!

These small suvs need to stop their hardly anymore practical then the hatch variant
A slightly lifted hatch lol
Armaan Tondon exactly only ones that seem proper is the Skoda Kamiq and new Peugeot 2008
@@marnuscoreyempanadaslooseb6760 Proper lol
This guy is great!
Or Skoda Kamiq that seems good
No manual transmission, and hybrid engines there? Damn, you missed the fun.
Why is he driving two cars?
A dual clutch Ford? No thanks!

Not bad Nice review
I’d call it a Crossover not an SUV really.
jerrymyahzcat is call it a hatchback really, doesn’t even have 4wd

we call " garbage "this kinda car in the Usa😅 our ford dealer don't even have this piece of junk
Give me a manual ford
Even the new Fiesta has more engine capacity than this...
A natureza é maravilhosa

Is it a puma? No. Is it cute? Yes. Is it Tom Cruise? Open for discussion.. Is Richard a puma at thumbnail? Controversial..
best review hilarious..
Definitely has a feline element to it!
5:45 That was close! I hope you were wearing your Puma Pants.
Folding yourself in to the bottom boot you look like a magician? First impression - Porche like but drives like a Ford.
[Pijhuma] ?
You want some feedback.. you took too long, you prattled, it’s was ‘drivelly’, something false about who you are.. ummm
Looks like a lil porsche suv 7.9/10 that's pretty good
You're so cute and funny 😂
It's B&o not Bang and Olufsen for christ sake
s d ummm, B&O is short for Bang @ Olufsen.
@@SpearmintCoolmint No, It isn't. B&O Play is the cheap offshoot of Bang and Olufsen. Look it up.
No it's B&O for Bang&Olufsen now because B&O Play does not exist anymore... ^^

It has very poor visibility like most new cars yuck
Aint no body watch this!
Applying science to your reviews 👍 ....applying Scientology? 👽
This car looks very nice but u are to tall for it hahaha
The back doesn't look that bad, shame about the nose.
The ford puma is probably the worst looking car you can buy in Australia at the moment
always a bit of a laugh with this guy...ta....
What's wrong with this commentator? If you are trying to be funny - stop it! You're not
Another tiny little car. -_- How tiresome. Great review as always Richard. 👍 But tiny cars are just... tiny. Each to their own.
Yaris Cross will be better
