My last 2 cars have been Fiesta so have ordered a Puma for a change. The bigger interior suits me more than a fiesta would. If I don’t like it then I can give it back after 2 years, but to be honest as soon as I sat in it I felt at home and the test drive only boosted that feeling.

Well done mate, it's clear to see a lot of effort went in to the production and you should be very pleased with the final outcome. You pulled no punches on the Puma, though, did you? 😉It may have been finished in Grey Matter, but it was black and blue after you battered it 😅Joking aside, it's good to see you're not afraid to say your mind, and there were of course some good points int there as well - I'd love to see what you'd make of the Puma ST.

Honesty is key and needs to be more of it in the world 👍🏼 I get the concept behind the Crossover SUV as it gives the end user, the appeal you get from a traditional SUV for far less money but when manufacturers are copying & pasting especially in Ford's case with the Ecosport, I honestly find it difficult to understand them 😂 In essence, it doesn't matter what I say; they will sell like hot cakes! Appreciate the kind words and the continued support mate!

his personal opinion is definitely valid but ive had a puma st line x for a little while now and its fun to drive, easy to use and definitely still a reasonably unique car in the uk right now. put anyone in the drivers seat of a puma right now and they will most likely all agree there isnt another car in the same side of the market that is as fun to be behind the wheel of.

  • @pkaps5799

My friend, you are talking about the firm ride but you don't mention or you may not know that the car in your review runs on the extra 19 inch wheels, not the 18 inch that are standard with the st line x. Then you keep comparing it with the Fiesta and talking about the 3 thousand difference like they are in the same segment. The Puma is wider, longer, taller than the fiesta and, even though not by much, there is more room inside the Puma than that of the Fiesta. Isn't that important in the small car market? Not counting the boot which is almost double the size of that of the Fiesta. All in all its more spacious than the Fiesta and regardless of your liking its better looking than the Fiesta. As for the hybrid function you should have done your homework prior saying over an over again of how worthless it is, as apart from providing extra torque or boost, from low revs, phasing out the turbo lag effect which is ever evident in other small engine turbo cars, it also provides seamless start stop function, in reality shutting down the engine and taking over when the car is rolling to a stop without the annoying start/stop jolt. Yes of course it is not like the Toyota hybrid but it was not meant to be, it does exactly what Ford wanted to do and pretty well. Don't also overlook the fact that even the basic Puma offers many more extras as standard than the basic Fiesta. Anyhow, the review should focus on the Puma alone and not to be a comparison to the Fiesta, unless the review title changed likewise, as they are in totally different segments. If any, comparisons should be directed to other competitors in the segment like the Juke, the T Cross, the Mokka, The 2008, the CHR etc..
    x

Not sure we are friends, but happy to answer your comment as it seems you have spent some time writing it
Before I start, I'd like to remind you, I'm not knocking the Puma, I've criticized the platform, marketing of the product and lack of practicality compared to traditional full SUV models; all valid personal questions/opinions that I'm allowed to comment on.
      1. The ST-Line uses a sport suspension setup to get the ride lower and stiffen up for better cornering, the ride comfort will be firm regardless of the alloy wheel size - I agree smaller alloys will help but as tested I'm basing it off the car I had at the time. So, not sure what you would have wanted me to do?
      2. £3,000 is a big price difference for any car, especially in cases where it is solely based on a cheaper platform.
      3. Dimensions between a Fiesta & Puma are different, correct. Never said it wasn't different but in reality, the size comparison is minimal
(100mm difference in width and height) and you've even admitted it's not that much! Just because it sits higher up doesn't automatically make it 10 ten times more practical #TheGreatIllusion
      4. The length granted is much larger compared to a Fiesta and translates to the boot, again never said the Boot was small or compared it to be similar to a Fiesta
      5. Boot is not double the size compared to a Fiesta, actually usable space is only 84 litres difference, you can't include the 80-litre Megabox that can only be used for smaller items (not luggage)
      6. Mild Hybrid systems full stop is pointless, don't need to do homework to figure that - Ecoboost turbos are designed to have minimal lag if no lag at all due to their small design, as Ford only sell the Puma as MHEV I can't work out the weight difference between a normal version and the hybrid version; from experience, the extra weight being carried around both as Crossover and the MHEV system, makes your claims a false economy.
.... All modern cars before the use of MHEV adopted stop/start technology without the need to lug extra weight around.
Carmakers should adopt lightweight constructions to make cars drive better, faster and be more economic; not add battery packs with combustion engines and electric motors in already heavy SUV platforms.
      7. What a car does on paper (claimed by the manufacturer) doesn't always translate the same in the real world.
      8. A Puma and a Fiesta have two different markets, the Puma was always designed to be the more expensive car from the start; as their configurator suggests, a Fiesta is designed to be a vehicle accessible to any age i.e., a young driver (Yes, first time drivers buy new cars) so if you're a 17-year-old buying a Fiesta you want the cheapest version as there not made of money unless they have generous parents.
      9. Could have added a more in-depth segment comparing against other rivals, but you can't say I have based certain elements on rivals because I have. At the same time, I can't pass judgement on other vehicles in Puma's class as I haven't driven them.
      10. The title suggests an open-ended question, is the Puma a good car or not? So, the title is correct and will remain.
So, to conclude on your comment, it seems I'm not allowed to pass on my personal experience on living both a Fiesta & Puma where I ask valid questions about its price point, the lack of difference in practicality and the fact it doesn't drive as well as Fiesta.
If you want a car for practicality, buy an estate or buy a proper sized SUV designed to offer space from inception!
Again, the Puma isn't a bad car, if anything it is the best in its class, a flawed class but one created nevertheless to clean up more money for a subpar product.
Considering I made this video over a year or so ago, I still stand by my thoughts especially as I have had the new Ford Kuga for a week
Apologies for the firm response, thanks for watching!

@@PocketRockets thanks for taking the time to reply, trust me there is a considerable difference between a 19 inch wheel and 18 inch wheel ride, under the same suspension setting, as is with a 18 to 17 etc since the tire wall is shorter in larger tire/wheel combinations with negative effect in absorbance the since the tire wall also acts as a suspension absorbent component. I drove both and I can assure you of that. I even drove the 17 inch st line version which was the most comfortable but not by much compared to the 18 inch version. Truth is that the Puma is best in its class, thus far that is, regardless of some minor shortfalls, i.e., rear passenger space, some interior material questionable quality but mind you its only a 4.18 m affordable crossover where priority is the combination engine/ride/handling and this combination does not come cheap if you want to excel without totally sacrificing space and especially boot which is tops by far and a very good incentive for a young family and couples or singles who occasionally also carry kids or friends, you just cannot ask more from a small crossover like the Puma. The 155 hp version also brings a smile to your face with its dynamics although on the louder side! Not to worry, I dont find your response firm, we are discussing after all not arguing. Keep it up, your video/review was well put together, regardless

    • @PocketRockets
      @PocketRockets  2 роки тому

No worries, thanks for the discussion and kind words to my work! It's hard to gauge a conversation virtually/over a keyboard 🙈
Regardless of the Puma or any other crossover, I find them flawed and pointless. An estate is far more practical, better handling, and provides good value for money as an allrounder; I find the argument of people wanting a crossover as a family car, a very backward approach as your paying the price for very small marginal differences
At least if you're someone who likes the Crossover market, you have some choice
      All the best 👍

Didn't say it was either good or bad 🤦🏻‍♂️ I can certainly see the appeal for SUVs but they drive nowhere near as good as an estate car (there is no argument to that statement) and in this case you're essentially driving a Fiesta with no practicality benefits (apart from a bigger boot) it makes no sense! Wish the video would be consumed in a logically/reasonable manner, not a 'I have this car its the best thing since sliced bread' attitude because it isn't
Technically the Puma isn't even an SUV, it's a crossover SUV so they can't even be compared to a traditional SUV platform, the main reason why I have said it is pointless

My current car is getting worn out interior wise with a child seat on one side and my walking frame on the rear of the rear seats. I need a large boot. I love my seat Leon TDI but need something to allow me to sit a bit higher. My car has done around 2000 miles on the clock and it is from 2010. I currently have been looking at the Ateca, arona, Grandland, focus st x, mg HS, Mokka, captur, austral, Tucson, etc. My worry is that if I have a mobility scheme car one day the scheme may vanish and I am left with no car at all. I can't decide on full hybrids or typical ice engines.

Motability will be based on a contract term, they can't just take a car away if they vanish/close down
You're best going to different dealerships in your local area and reviewing your options along with things you want from the car (boot space) to narrow down your options to then approach Motability that way

There is only one way to drive an SUV! cruise defensively, Suddenly changing lanes or clipping will get you upside down. Even though most UK SUVs are tiny little things they are still SUVs so they must be driven accordingly. Having a manual defeats the purpose of an SUV That is another UK first where people still buy manuals. The motorways here are awful and require a change of lanes constantly as there are only 3 lanes when 5 lanes are for cars and 1 for trucks in the developed world, changing lanes at 70 in an SUV will get you killed unless you smoothly and well in advance manavour, Sudden changes of direction your gonna loose stability! period. Also, so many people struggle to understand why we have crossovers, whilst forgetting how there’s over 600,000 disabled people on the Motability scheme alone. I would say around half of those are like me and unable to bend into a hatchback!!!! (Plus the thousands of people who aren’t on Motability but also struggle to bend) THAT IS WHY WE HAVE CROSSOVERS! THAT IS THE CONCEPT!!!!! - They are much, much easier to get into without having to have a great big SUV!

    • @PocketRockets
      @PocketRockets  3 роки тому +2

Wow, the tone and delivery of this comment is shocking, calm down!
I've put together an unbiased review of the Ford Puma both as a car enthusiast and someone with common sense to know the Crossover SUV is false economy/advertising
It seems I'm the only one that has courage on this platform to be honest and share 'MY' opinion, not yours
First of all, people signed up to the mobility scheme get a severe discount so they are more welcome to choose the Puma! My point is that they are overpriced and based solely on its smaller counterpart (the Fiesta), apart from a big more head room and boot space this is no better than a hatchback
So your statement of unable to bend into a hatchback makes zero sense as you'll be doing the same in the Puma!
Plus, the last time I checked Crossovers weren't made for the mobility market so not sure what you're implying
So the concept of a Crossover SUV is not easier, it is a compromise that costs more for no real gain
Thank you for watching, in future please respect other opinions even if you don't; I was taught if you have nothing nice to share keep it to yourself 👍🏼

What a negative reviewer this guy is. Ok I understand the points he makes but don’t necessarily agree with all of them. What he doesn’t seem to get is we all have our own personal reasons and individual parameters when it comes to what we might be looking for in a car. I currently own an original styled Citroen Cactus in an inky black purple colour! which I bought for a variety of reasons that suited my particular remit at the time. It’s a definite marmite type of car which perversely I kind of like, some people hate it and some people love it, and a hell of a lot of people just don’t get it or actually understand what Citroen was actually trying to do with it or why someone like me would actually buy it. Take the time to really understand the Citroen Cactus and it’s target customer and you will realise it’s quite a cleverly designed car and was cleverly thought out for its target audience and selling price point. Had I listened to people then I’d have stayed well clear of a Citroen because of people saying how bad they are etc, but the fact is it’s been no worse or better than any other make of car I’ve owned and I’ve had a few over the years, it has fitted my personal brief perfectly well with regards to purpose and looks and has styling which I still love by the way. In short this reviewer needs to stick to basic facts about the cars he is reviewing and keep his personal opinions out of it and just stick to a proper balanced review that provides the information we need because ultimately we all have different wants, desires, and needs when it comes to buying a car and most of us will usually go with our own decision and gut feeling when making a purchase even after watching or reading a review.

@@PocketRocketsWe are all entitled to an opinion and we are all allowed to express them given the right circumstance. Having said that you started your review on this Ford Puma right from the get go with so many strong negative opinions about it that a lot of viewers are just going to think, yeah well! this guy obviously doesn’t like this type of car etc so why should we give any time of the day to what he thinks about it? He’s already decided he doesn’t like this car before he has really turned a wheel in it. Car reviewers are supposed to give a fair and balanced review on the cars they are testing and reviewing and by all means can mention what they don’t like about it or whatever as a passing comment, but to make your negativity so obvious right from the start tells people ( Well me anyway ) that your really not the type of guy, ie not a fan of small SUV crossovers like this, to be giving us a totally unbiased and helpful info / opinion on this car that we might be looking to purchase. If I had read this type of review that you gave here on my Citroen Cactus and was the type of person who was easily influenced without ultimately a mind of my own then I wouldn’t have gone anywhere near it and would have missed out on what I personally think is a great car which ticked all my personal boxes when I first bought it despite what others might think about it. Another case in point, other reviews I have watched reviewing the Ford Puma have praised its fun and sporty handling to the hilt in the context of it being a small SUV cross over and NOT a Fiesta type of car. A Fiesta will obviously handle better than this Puma due to its smaller and lower size etc, other reviewers understand the difference and the type of market the Puma is aimed at so base their review whether positive or negative accordingly. If you can’t understand what I’m saying here then I give up. 🤷

In the meantime leave proper car reviewing to those who actually know what they are talking about when it comes to certain types of car. Because I really don’t want an argument with you I will wish you a good day. Here is a bit of constructive criticism, so dont get offended please.
This review is of course your own opinion, but this is the first generally negative review of the Puma that I have watched. You seem to be obsessed with Ford reusing the name more than anything, which is fairly trivial. The Puma was What Car car of the year 2020. It is an SUV and just because you like the Fiesta, it should not cloud your jugement. Its horses for courses. Also, try not to be so dour and sneer so much, wear some decent clothes and dont slouch.

Hi, I have just ordered one today. I think is is best small SUV for the money. Things I do not like are those stupid trim lines. For example the only one with 155hp is ST-Line X. When you go for it it only comes with cheap looking fake leather. No option to go for beige or even brighter interior - all black and depressing. I do agree hybrid is only a marketing trick - I does F**k all. It just adds cost, weight and complexity. Proper Plug-in hybrid with 10kwh battery would do magic.

      @PocketRockets  2 роки тому

Congrats on the order Wojciech! The black headlining does make it dull inside but if you opt for a sunroof/pano roof it will help
No matter if it's a mild or full hybrid, it's all a loophole that doesn't translate well in the real world; I've actually done a comprehensive range test with the new Kuga PHEV showing the entire process from 0 - 100% charge and doing a journey in full EV

You obviosly don't really understand mild hybrid technology and - yea - waffle a bit of nonsense. A good car review should mostley be objective and accurate .... yours is mostly - yea - purely opion based and an excuse to rubbish a car you happen not to like ...which incidentally, is regarded as one of the very best in its class by the majority of KNOWLEDGEABLE motoring jounalists. So - just my own opinion, but - yea - there are so many good car reviewers doing videos like this that - yea - I really think you should - yea - pack it in. You are - yea - as you descibe yourself - yea - a petrolhead, and I'm sure that - yea - you are being honest, as you say at the end of the video, but really - yea - what is the point ? I am a very happy Puma owner and having forced my way through your " review ", I convinced myself you were testing a completely different car. C. Absolutely delighted to hear that it is not the best presenting you could have done .... I hope ( genuinely) that you have improved.
      D. I first saw your video whilst doing research before buying my Puma some months ago. At the time, it stuck in my mind for it being so completely out of sync with nearly all the others I saw. Having now now driven and lived with it, I just felt compelled to revisit your video and leave my thoughts. You are of course, absolutely entitled to your own opinions, but it is very unhelpful when you express those opinions which are quite obviously about a car you don't like as a " review " that others may look at and take note of when looking to buy. A review should be factual, accurate and unbiased.
Yours is none of those. ( as an example, your remarks about the mild hybrid technology used by Ford are not only uninformed and inaccurate, but really very silly )
      E. Not an attempt to belittle you .... merely trying to demonstrate how utterly irritating your presentation really is. A bit tounge in cheek .... perhaps you need a boost to your self esteem.
      F. Strange comment about " Mk2 Puma Owner " .... I, like you, am a bit of a petrol head. I wanted a small SUV or Crossover type of car, and as the Puma is almost universally recognised as the best handling and most fun to drive in its class, I bought one. I am not dissapointed.
      Oh .... I am also a " BMW Z3 M Coupe Owner " .... how about a review of that ? ...... bet it would be hilarious.

I call it honest, fair and unbiased, just shows I'm not afraid to speak my opinion out loud and will continue to do so
Not a bad car, but certainly wouldn't remark it as a decent car, plenty more cars that cab do the job better
      Thanks for watching Joyce

@@PocketRockets very mature response. Doesn't make you look very professional and shows me why you have the small number of subs that you do. Your opinions may be honest from your perspective but almost every other car reviewer would tell you you're wrong.

@@crombosis Love how you come on MY video, be rude and disrespectful based on MY opinion that you have just admitted to, and then don't like it when you get the same treatment back!
Again as I have to repeat myself for the 10000th time, it's my opinion; if you don't agree or don't like it - either turn off or have a constructive debate on why you disagree
You have shown me you can't have a decent conversation, if you're not going to be nice to someone irrelevant of the situation, DON'T expect to be treated in the same way
