Can I just say thank you Emily for always trying out the drugstore stuff! Not everyone can afford the high end stuff that UA-cam beauty gurus seem to only be reviewing these days! And also thank you for this video in particular because the only videos I can find on self tanners are all sponsored videos from Sun Labs! I feel like I can trust what you say, unlike some other UA-camrs who review things simply for the money & free stuff!
I love that I can actually trust you about the Faux. Any other guru would just pick it because it is expensive, but I know for a FACT that you would not tell your viewers it was a great product if you didn't really think it was a great product. Thank you so much for everything you do!!
i absolutely love your videos, emily. i am a broke college student that goes to ohio state right now and i really appreciate the way you don't make videos ONLY geared towards people who are able to afford high end products. thanks so much and keep up with your awesome tutorials!! :)
May I just say that you look very beautiful, young, and fresh in this video. Your skin looks great and the light, neutral makeup is just really flattering on you. So pretty Emily!
U do the BEST reviews on everything! I love your videos. They are always very informative. Down to the smallest details. I like how you added some things to read on the screen that you may have forgotten to talk about. Really shows how thorough you are. I live you as a person. You sound so sweet and your beautiful! Thank you :)
the sublime bronze in the tube is AWESOME! i'm not sure if the sprayer is a different formula but the sublime in the tube is all i use. gets you nice and dark very quickly without an orange look.
finally! you're the first guru i've seen that has mentioned faux tan. i've been using it for awhile now, and i find it works best if you mix it with some lotion.
Hey Emily! I'm so glad you mentioned the Dr. Dennis Gross pads. I have always been across of trying self tanner on my face but this one was really amazing! You really need to give Lorac self tantalizer a try. It's a bit pricy but well worth it. Plus it smells amazing!
i cant believe people are talking about your voice..your vids are so professional and you speak clearly and precise so we can understand!!! thats why i love your videos. :)
you know why your my FAVORITE guru ever because i know i can trust you and you tell us about drugstore items too because i'm 13 and my parents don't buy me stuff unless it's a holiday or my b-day so i have to buy everything myself so i just CANNOT afford high-end products and other guru's have actually taken the time to talk about drugstore products but I can tell it's just cuz they were payed to because i've bought their "recomended" products and they are absolutely terrible but not with you ♥
OMG, SOOO grateful that I watched this video, I was about to buy that L'oreal sunless tanner the other day but now I know to stay away from it! Thank you so much for yet another awesome video, you're so honest and I really trust every review that you do.
I normally don't comment on stuff, but I have to say, you, by far, are my favorite guru. I love your reviews and tutorials! Thanks so much for making high-quality videos without seeming fake or whoring companies that are sponsoring you. That's hard to find on youtube these days. Keep the vids coming! :]
I absolutely love the Banana Boat tanner. It helps maintain my tan, fix tan lines, and it seriously shows up within an hour and a half to two hours. Insane! And its unbelievably affordable!
She was so right about the Banana Boat product it is the best one I have seen so far, really will put a pigment to your skin. The problems are tho the fade is not great if you really make it dark and the streaking, and light hand issue but as far as the drug store it is the best. Thanks Emily for the videos.
I love how your cute tank is from dollar general - I need to go out and get me some! And, personally, one of the reasons I initially subscribed to your channel is because I was tired of listening to squeaky gurus. Your content is awesome too and I appreciate that you cover more drugstore level products, but I think that the fact that your voice is professional sounding is a plus for most of us here in youtube land.
I agree with you on the faux tan, people might think its pricey, which it is, but you get a Big Bang for your buck! it works the best out of all the tanners and last 2 summers for me, if not more. I bought it when Leslie first came out with it! You can't go wrong Ladies.
Oh my you sold me on your number 1 pick! I don't really need it for my face or arms but I do need it for my legs. For whatever reason my legs just refuse to grab any kind of color! Thanks for taking the time to use and review all of these items.
ohmygosh haha i m actually pretty surprised about your blog post with getting haters with ur voice... one of the main reasons i got hooked on to your videos is because of your voice! It s so soothing and clear. I never have trouble of what you pronounce and generally it's just nice to hear your voice... kinda hard to describe... anyway, love you emily
Emily!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bare Minerals self tanner! And I got the same deal you found on QVC with that awesome brush. I was on a desperate search since they stopped making my self tanner a year ago and found Faux Tan to work THE BEST! Last the longest too! FYI, when I use my finger to apply, I just use one of those small square disposable Buf-Puf pads and it scrubs my fingers clean!
the Jergens natural glow for the face works sooo well and looks so natural! u just hav to stick w it for a week and apply it twice a day. it makes my skin so dewy! u need to giv it another shot, stay w it a little bit and ul be glad u did! it also doesn't fade horribly at all! i hope u'l try it again!!
Thank you so much for doing this- I try to stay out of the sun as much as possible because I have really pale skin and a family history of skin cancer, but you often can't even see my face in flash photography! I'm going to try the faux tan.
i'm naturally tan so i never feel the need to go tanning, but i love this vid because my skin tone is uneven like my chest area is a little lighter than my arms (no matter how much sun block i put on my arms) so i think i'll try the tanners you mentioned. thanks!!!
@googleflex Social stigma and pressure might be the motivating factors for some people to wear makeup, do their hair, tan, etc... but I don't think that's what drives everyone. Some people (including myself) enjoy the creative process of applying makeup, and just the added self-esteem boost that fixing yourself up can give. I think people need to make sure they're doing these things for themselves, not to meet someone else's standards. Thanks for the deep question- I like it! :)
OMG I thought you had a natural tan at the beginning of the video. You look great. i think I will purchase this product. I hate that orange look that a lot of faux tanners create when you over use them. Thanks for the review.
Hi Emily! thanks for all the reviews! If you havent tried Xen Tan yet--try it! i love it! it is a little pricey but it gives an olive toned tan (im extremely pale so thats really important for me) AND it doesnt have that sunless tanner smell. ITS AWESOME! I buy the spray which dries really fast.
I love faux tan! I've been using it about 3 years ago but stopped because I always exfoliate my skin and I felt like I was just taking off the tan every night, and I had to clean my tub constantly because it gets dirty from the self tanner. I might start using it again, it really is the best self tanner!
I've never favorited other gurus videos as much as i do yours, you have such great ideas for videos and i always have a list of products that i want to check out by the end of each video!
I read some of the comments mentioning you wanted to put tanner on your face. My advice is go with a gradual tanner on the face--meaning don't put the Banana Boat or Faux Tan on your face. My recommendation on gradual would be 360 Glow by Ocean Potion. I shave my head and I use it on my neck and melon, and I like the results, but then, I am slightly olive-y (part N. American) anyway, so the end color works with what I already have.
BEST. SELF-TAN. EVER.... Quick Tan by Body Drench. It is ideal for Fall-Winter-Spring. This is because in the summer you typically go to the beach or go swimming, and Quick Tan in a temporary tan that washes away with heavy amounts of moisture- (bathing). I use it day-to-day and get compliments all the time. I have even been asked if I recently went to the beach. IT IS WONDERFUL. Only issue- it only lasts until you bathe again. But it smells wonderful and applies so evenly. LOVE IT.
Emily, I have 2 questions about your experience with self tanners. 1. In HOT weather will the products melt off or transfer onto your clothes? 2. How do you avoid having "too much tanner" in places you don't want it to be... such as your hands, face, knees, elbows, ankles etc...
Not gonna lie: Your voice often times lulls me to sleep at night when I'm lying in bed watching videos! Not because you're videos are boring (not at all!), but your voice is so soothing and relaxing! :D I didn't mean to sound like a complete creeper there....but...ignore the haters! We love your voice and videos!
I have always wondered about the Bare Escentuals one because the only foundation I always go back to is their mineral foundation. I'm glad to see them branching out and getting other products like skincare and tanning right as well.
I was so pleased to see this video in my sub box!!! I was just writing a list of beauty products to purchase at the store tomorrow and I was looking for a good self tanner.
i use the jergens body and face tanning lotion. ANd yes the face one doesn't do much. I have no complains about the body one overall, just make sure you apply it evenly on your body. I think i might give the qvc one a try, Thanks Emily!!!! Another great video. PS) wet and wild just came out with the bronze eyeshadow palette and its so cute. Havn't tried it yet though....
Hey Emily, I've got a couple of questions for you. 1) How do you self-tan your back? I have bad shoulders with no flexibility and so it's extremely difficult for me to put lotion on my back, let alone attempt to buff in a self-tan. Does your husband help you? 2) How long does an application of 1-2 layers last? 3) Does the tan come off when you sweat/exfoliate/shave? I've had lots of problems with faux tanners in the past where they come off when I shave my legs or workout really hard. Thanks!
@pgskittyqueen apply it whenever you have the most time to let it dry before putting clothes on. Keep in mind that shaving tends to exfoliate the skin, so you may want to shoot for doing it after your shower.
LANCOME FLASH BRONZER IN DEEP (OR DARK) - just a-m-a-z-i-n-g...I've been using it for over 10 years now. Never streaks, fades evenly, lasts on me a full 7 days before I need to apply again, super natural looking and buildable too if you want to go darker still. My HG self tanner. Just moisturise hands, elbows, knees and heels beforehand to avoid over processing on dryer skin areas. Totally recommend it :D
@browndogzr4ever147 they're sunless tanners. So once you put them on and they activate (some take a few hours, some only a few minutes) you have a tan. They're safe, no sun required
@LivingInAFantasy16 don't worry what anyone thinks about it- we're all entitled to our own preferences for ourselves. Another reason why sunless tanner helps me so much-- it makes me look much less washed out when I'm doing the newscast under really bright lights. So we all have our reasons :)
@DiamondDaiquiri I'm not sure how it changes depending on individual use/body size etc but BE's website claims the tanner lasts about 3 months. Not too bad given the price. Makes it more affordable IMO. Great video Emily! Love your colouring and I cannot wait to try the Faux Tanner.
Jergens face tanning lotion- wow, i thought it was just me that it didnt work for ! i used it last year and again i started to use it like 2 weeks ago- and still no color difference! great video- great product review and reccomendation!
For the drugstore tanners, there are mitts you can buy for the application! I know that St. Tropez has one at Sephora for about six dollars or so. It makes a difference.
@emilynoel83 You have a great voice, you always speak clearly and explain everything very well. I think it's part of what makes your videos so great to watch.
@PhoebeBabey I'd go for Jergens- and it comes in a couple of different shade options, so get the lightest one available. Also, if you don't want foam, you can get it in lotion form.
St. Tropez self tanner with the mitt is also great! It sells on QVC with the mitt for slightly less than the Faux Tan. They use St. Tropez on "Dancing With The Stars". Haven't tried Faux Tan yet...some people on QVC web site say it came off on their sheets which scared me off. May try it now though! Thanks for the video!
@StasiaLove1 there is a lighter shade available that you might want to try... you won't be SUPER dark after one application of the shade I showed though
Thanks for the reviews on the less expensive drug store self tanners. I was in a "heads up/down" situation over getting the Banana Boat or the L'Oreal. I'm glad I went with the Banana Boat!
I am definitely going to have to try the first self tanner you mentioned... I am very pale and I hate going in the sun because I have to burn first before I tan so I use tanner... BUT I hate looking like an orange so I am always afraid to use self tanner... I am definitely going to have to try it!
@smileygirlnat i haven't- but keep in mind that price on the faux tan is a really big size plus the brush- so you can probably get it cheaper in a smaller size if u wanted to :) I have heard good things about st. tropez though
You look amazing Emily with your faux tan!! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on these. The Bare Minerals one sounds amazing but I may have to just go with the Banana Boat due to cost. I'd love to try the brush method though, I think I have a flat top dense brush, not as large but it may work too.
I had purchased the BE faux tanner from QVC and just love it....its the most natural looking tan....when I ordered got on the auto delivery so I won't be ever be out.....I still might order and try the Sun Labs one just to compare with the BE but with the looks of both they look the same.....
@AnimalLuver996 I'd go for a gradual tanner, and choose the lightest option you can find (usually there are 2, maybe 3 choices for most brands). You might want to look into the Jergens foam in a light option- it builds so gradually, you aren't going to get super dark
I just bought the jergens face tanner, i dont see any color but i love it just as a everyday moisturizer, it makes my skin feel so soft and doesn't feel oily or wet like the olay one i had been using for years.
Cut it with a regular moisturizer--say on a 2:1 ratio...2 pumps regular moisturizer to 1 pump SUN Labs. Bear in mind that the color guide will come off on your clothes, but after you shower, it doesn't rub off much. The regular moisturizer will help with the application process (Remember the latex gloves or nitrile if allergic to latex), and do not apply much of this to your face.
I know this video is 10 years old but I have to say I still love my bareMinerals Faux Tan. The smell is sweet almonds and the color you get from this self tanner is just amazing! It is so sad the ever since Leslie Blodgett sold bareMinerals Bare Escentuals to Shiseido they have fallen out of the lime light. I still love my bareMinerals products and I certainly love the Faux Tan. This is an oldie but a goodie!!
Emily, you have a GREAT voice... don't let all the haters get to you. Perhaps those who have criticized your voice are not as educated as you are. :) Love your videos!!!
You really do your research and I've noticed that in all your videos :) The Jergens face tanner did work for my skin type but not everyone likes it or for that matter the smell!!
I'm definitely going to have to try Faux Tan. My current favorite self-tanners are Sun Labs Ultra Dark and St. Tropez Original Mousse. Sun labs is finicky at times and I need to mix it with a small pump of lotion to make it smooth on my skin flawlessly, but that doesn't bother me much. Considering I can get a huge 32 oz. bottle for $45, I can handle a little lotion mixing to help it apply evenly. St. Tropez will always be my favorite but it is much less affordable; $45 for 8 oz. ._.
@greciangoddesslaura ok just ran to the bathroom & checked- this is not a very scientific way of figuring this out, but the tanner has gone down about an inch... so there is still a whole lot left. And pretty much every time I've put it on, I've used it all over my body. I'm also shorter than the average bear- about 5'0", so keep that in mind :)
I think your probably the MOST Honest 'Bigger' Guru on UA-cam. I like how you don't obsess over MAC and a bunch of other high-end makeup, it makes you seem so much more real & honest!
Six years since this video and she is still just the same! Sweet, genuine, trustworthy. Love ya Emily!
The thing i love the most is that you always get to the point emily. Ive never ever heard you ramble. and unlike other gurus on yt the WHOLE video is about what your talking about. not half is you talking and i have to sort through random babble to get to what its supposed to be about.
Can I just say thank you Emily for always trying out the drugstore stuff! Not everyone can afford the high end stuff that UA-cam beauty gurus seem to only be reviewing these days! I feel like I can trust what you say, unlike some other UA-camrs who review things simply for the money & free stuff!
you should definitely do a updated drugstore self tanner!
I agree, I would love to see that!!
I could use this now.
I honestly listen and believe everything she says and recommends. She is like the ultimate beauty guru !
You sound so sweet and your beautiful! the sublime bronze in the tube is AWESOME! i'm not sure if the sprayer is a different formula but the sublime in the tube is all i use. gets you nice and dark very quickly without an orange look.
finally! you're the first guru i've seen that has mentioned faux tan. i've been using it for awhile now, and i find it works best if you mix it with some lotion.
Hey Emily! I'm so glad you mentioned the Dr. Dennis Gross pads. I have always been across of trying self tanner on my face but this one was really amazing! You really need to give Lorac self tantalizer a try. It's a bit pricy but well worth it. Plus it smells amazing!

Emily I'd love to see you do an updated best and worst of self tanners, even going into the winter it would be super helpful.
Emily!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bare Minerals self tanner! And I got the same deal you found on QVC with that awesome brush. I was on a desperate search since they stopped making my self tanner a year ago and found Faux Tan to work THE BEST! Last the longest too! FYI, when I use my finger to apply, I just use one of those small square disposable Buf-Puf pads and it scrubs my fingers clean!

your my BEAUTYYY MOMMY!!!!!!!! you teach me so much and i love you for it! thanks for so many amazing videos!

I love that you did this video!!! I was the one who asked you about your fav self tanner when you did the blog tv the other night! :)
Jergens face tanning lotion- wow, i thought it was just me that it didnt work for !
i used it last year and again i started to use it like 2 weeks ago- and still no color difference!
great video- great product review and reccomendation!
YAYAYAYAYAYAAAAAYY!! I have been patiently waiting for this video. Thank you, as always, for giving me the best information around!
For the drugstore tanners, there are mitts you can buy for the application! I know that St. Tropez has one at Sephora for about six dollars or so. It makes a difference.
The one from from QVC is the best out there use it every year. I am happy to see the brush.
@emilynoel83 You have a great voice, you always speak clearly and explain everything very well. I think it's part of what makes your videos so great to watch.
Hey Emily! I would love to see an updated video on this subject! I loved watching an old school Emily video though in your old room!
@kristys411 It's two! :D Revlon Pink Chiffon (the lighter shade) and Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Shrimply Divine (brighter shade)
I love your voice Ms. Noel! Don't mind the other people! You are awesome for real! (The Golden Rose 100% Honesty).
I'm from Romania and I understand her perfectly ! She has an amazing voice
I found another option that is just as good as the brush she mentioned is the beauty blender or a sponge makeup applicator :)
Your skin looks absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for the tips. You're always so helpful! XO
Thank You! Im so fair that any help with the sunless tanners is a definet help.
@baby5968 it's MAC blush in Dollymix- it's kind of a bright pink shade
yeah, banana boat is also my fav tanner. I've ordered my second tube. For my face,i love Clarins self tanner instant tan. Its fantastic.
I have been using BE Faux tanner for years now...it is an amazing product. I also have a brush, but it is an older design. It is an amazing color.
I just bought the jergens face tanner, i dont see any color but i love it just as a everyday moisturizer, it makes my skin feel so soft and doesn't feel oily or wet like the olay one i had been using for years.
that color looks AMAZING on you!
You look glowing in this video!
This is an oldie but a goodie!!
thank you for making this video!!! i need a sunless tanner for my legs because they don't get tan as fast as my arms do!
awesome vid!! i love banana boat summer color! the lotion is tinted and i love the airbrush one! and SUN LABS is amazing!
I have olive-y skin, yellow undertones...and I never tan like that! That tan is gorgeous, better than any tan I could ever get naturally. :)
I love the Jergens natural glow!
Thank you SO MUCH!!!!!! You always have so much information! Boy, you really do your Homework, and We appreciate it!! You're the Best!!!!
Tanning mitts are the best for getting no streaks in my opinion :) and they cover a large area at a time . Thanks for this :) x
Clinique makes an awesome tanner for your face, you should def give it a try!
Your body has a lovely sunkissed tan, looks lovely!
Picking up some St. Tropez this week...keeping fingers crossed that it is as amazing as people say!
St. Tropez will always be my favorite but it is much less affordable; $45 for 8 oz. ._.
I used to use Faux Tan until I tried St. Tropez, also on QVC, my new favorite! You out to give it a try!
@88Hotty88 i have had no clothes staining problems!
i have loreal gel the pump & it works great! but not jergens. And i think your voice is great!
St. Tropez bronzing mousse is my all time favorite. Kandee Johnson reccommended it and I absloutely love it!
I have that bag that's hanging in your door, love it!! Also this was very helpful thanks!!
