I'm 66 years old and this song has been around almost all my life, I've never heard anybody call this a happy song or a fun song or dance to it like if it was your birthday like Diane was dancing.. I'm glad she enjoyed it and it is a very cool song.
It is up tempo. Reminds me of Help by the Beatles in that way. John is crying for help but with an upbeat tempo it was a pop song.
@@StanSwan Wow, I never connected the two, But damn...You're RIGHT! (Never gonna hear "Help" in the same way now ..LOL)
@@jamesslick4790 I am sure you won't.
How Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards are still alive is just mind boggling 🤯 x
Alcohol has preservative properties after all!
Cheers
They're pickled 😂
They're just still so high they don't realise they're dead yet.😂
In the words of Dennis Leary commenting on Keith Richards telling kids to not do drugs: “Keith, we can’t do anymore drugs because you already effing did em all!! We have to wait until you die and smoke your ashes!!”
A classic song for all Viet-Nam Veterans, most of them break in tears when their hear that song, others just want to get drunk to forget the shadows of the past that haunt them since their first tour of duty, but all of them will never forget that song which has become a synonym of war and destruction. Peace to all Viet Veterans, on either side!
I found it kind of funny that you were bouncing up and down and shouting "This is fun, this is a fun song!" while he sang of devastation over the death of his girlfriend. 😂 I do enjoy your video reactions! 💗
I totally agree with you. I think it's her age.
"I think the singer..." lol I'm guessing she's very young and her parents kept her sheltered. Perhaps she cried "Gimme Shelter!" butta boom!
@@sirslice7531 These kids who react on You Tube want clicks so they watch well known stuff that dominated before they were born. They know the "older" generation loves and craves acceptance of the music because we know what it means, and what it meant to us. To the reaction crowd, it's just a lure to draw thousands of likes and 82K views! My god I don't think 82,000 people saw the most recent Indiana Jones movie.
To be fair, it is a great beat and can distract you. A lot of people hear songs before they listen to them. It's harder to recognize a deep and sad story when presented in a peppy fun groove, lol.
@@garysmith3037 What you said.
Such a sad song with such a uplifting beat.
5:08 “I want to see your face!” And Diane obliges. Your unbridled joy makes my day! 🥳
Aww thank you, Martin!
Glad you like the Stones....and you are amazing!😀😀😀
Diane really brought her A game today with the top notch chair dance moves!
😄 she's awesome!
Yeah, I'm even more in love now than I used to be.
I realize I listen to music differently than most. I hear the lyrics and messages. Most seem to listen to the beat and nothing else. A song about a love loss and everything is dark. A heart devastated and you're happy about it.
My favorite Rolling Stones song is Paint it Black. I just wanted to share that. I always enjoyed this song when it was on the radio.
"Paint It Black" was also the theme song for the US TV show about the US/Vietnam War "Tour of Duty", which is probably where a lot of my fellow late-GenXers first heard it. Fun karaoke number too.
Not first heard it, but there are just certain songs that I associate with films about Nam. More "Gimme Shelter" and CCR's "Have you ever seen the rain?"
I first heard it in a music video show about roller coasters hosted by Matt Dillon. The video had a phantom of the opera vibe.
At least two very different covers of this song also featured prominently on the HBO series, "Westworld."
You also forget the ending of Kubrick's movie "Full Metal Jacket".
On a sad note: It was released in May 1966 first as a 45-rpm single. A friend who was to be KIA in Vietnam, in Mar. '67, liked it on the juke box of our local diner in late '66. He left a fiance to mourn. Sorry to be the downer. It was a funeral, but it was Vietnam as well.
"Paint It Black" is my favorite Rolling Stones song. One thing you can say about Mick and the Boys is no matter what song of theirs is playing, you can instantly recognize it is them...even their country song, "The Girl with the Far Away Eyes."
I’ve listened to their entire catalogue but I don’t think I’ve ever heard that one before. Could you tell me which album it’s on?
@@brandonlamb9067 I think it's on Some Girls.
@@brandonlamb9067 The album is "Some Girls" (1978). And apologies from me as the title is actually "Far Away Eyes." The "girl with the far away eyes" is actually the lyric in the chorus.
@@no2all Ahh, yes. Now I remember. Thanks for clearing that up
They fo a number of great country songs. They've been called Britain's greatest country band. I get a kick out of "Country Honk".
This brings me back to 1966 as a HS senior. My buddy opened his car windows and blasted this bad boy. So memorable.
"Paint It Black" is absolutely one of the greatest songs of all time. I'm not a big follower of The Rolling Stones but they do have songs I like and Paint It Black is about my favorite. You need to hear their song called "Wild Horses" 'cause it is so beautiful and amazing. Even if you don't react, just hear it. Just my thoughts.
Agreed Wild Horses is a great song. I've heard the Stones referred to as one of the best Country bands ever.
I was thinking she should try Wild Horses if she likes this one. Personally, I'm just not a fan, but hey, you can't win em all.
Paint and Wild Horses might be my two favorite Stones songs. Saw them at least 3 times. TBH, after the 3rd time, they kinda ran together, so I'm not sure if there was another show. First time was 1981, and my friend and I decided we should go, "because honestly, how many more chances will we have?"
Oops.
😁
@@bkm2797 I'd like to hear what do you think of Ruby Tuesday by the Stones? Would love to know your thoughts. Would mean a lot. It would help me in deciding what I should listen to. Have you every heard Star F***ker by the Stones?
It's a song with lyrics about depression but the tempo of the 🎶 song is very upbeat. Nice to see you dancing .
It sounds to me like the depression is caused by the death of a girlfriend.
@@almostfm you are correct@, he depressed, or upset, about the death of a girl. So it's more like a song about his reaction to her death.
The juxtaposition between the music and lyrics is brilliant
@@almostfm I see a line of cars and they´re all painted black ........ ( is a funeral )
Great video Diane! A classic song to check out! And the Rolling Stones have many! Love your videos my dear! Keep up the wonderful work!
One of the greatest songs of arguably the greatest rock and roll band of all time. Love the reaction Diane. A much needed lift on a bad day.
I saw those guys live at Soldier Field in Chicago on the Voodoo Lounge tour when I was in college in 94. I wanted to see them live before Keith Richards died. He's still alive.
My favourite Rolling Stones song and my second favourite songs of all time. Love your reaction Diane Rolling Stones are legends
Early Stones..we did this song back in 1968 in our band, :Deep River Rock Band in Indiana. Rock on!
Oh, I commented on one of your later videos to react to this, love it!
Always fun to see you Rocking out Diane!
Always
Watching Diane rocking out on "Painted Black." Priceless!😁
It's so great to see you enjoying music... and an absolute classic like this song. I also love the lyric video - never saw that before. Pretty cool. I love it when it's maybe a sad song lyrically but the music is upbeat and fun or visa versa. Anyway, loved your reaction and can't wait to see you react to more music. There's a lot of great music out there, so it's a long road but a fin one!! Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it! What a lovely, uplifting comment🎉
@@DianeJennings Mick is 80 years old this year and The Group are doing 2 Continental Tours.
The video of this, around 2006, really showed their energy Live:)
Always delightful Diane. 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the song. The Rolling Stones are my favorite band ever.
So good! It’s great to be able to connect the music with the names of the bands
I'm a 69 year old 60's leftover and ya would have loved being one of us back then. Jim
I was born in late 57 and nine never heard of The Rolling Stones until I joined the army in 77, so well that was watching the movie Apocalypse Now when Surfer boy was well surfing to the tune of I Can't Get No Satisfaction , in the middle of Vietnam.
Love the music reactions! Keep ‘em comin!
Gimme Shelter, and Sympathy for the Devil are good ones too.
I’m glad you’re enjoying these music reviews. It looks like you are having so much fun!
I like seeing you smile and bopping around!
I must check those out bill!
@@DianeJennings I'd recommend for the best experience with the Stones, listen to these entire albums all in a row: "Beggar's Banquet," "Let it Bleed," "Sticky Fingers," and "Exile on Main St." They are four of the greatest rock albums ever created, and they were all released, one after another. "Let it Bleed" is a personal favorite, and I think the best Stones album, but that's definitely arguable. The kind of rock music made in the mid-60's to late-70's was really meant to be listened to as an entire album. Of course, singles were released in that time as they were before then, but this really was the era of "Album-Oriented Rock," or "AOR," where the experience of taking in music was much more holistic.
@@DianeJennings Definitely check out "Sympathy for the Devil " (1968) My favorite Rolling Stones song!
@@MattLovesVinyl "Beggar's Banquet" IMHO, is Not only the 'Stones best album, but is in the top 20 albums of the Rock Era!
@@jamesslick4790 Let It Bleed is top-5 all time. Up there with Sgt. Peppers, Nevermind, Led Zeppelin IV, and Appetite for Destruction
Great video Diane, as always! (PS it’s my favourite Rolling Stones song)
This is my favorite Stones song!! Great reaction vid 😎
It is a great song
Thank you!! 😁
One of my favorite songs by them.
Thanks for reacting to it Diane!
My pleasure!!
Old geezer here... this was a staple for my garage band days. All things Stones were de rigueur in high school.
Diane, stay on this awesome journey!
I love your react videos. I’ve heard this song used for many tv shows and movies about Vietnam. I don’t know much about The Rolling Stones either but truly love this song since the first time I heard it
How are you doing?
That’s so great to hear Heather! It’s a really uplifting song
Happy Friday! I really love this video. Have a very weekend.
Thank you! You too!
Classic Rolling Stones ❤
I always enjoy watching you react to things. You seem like you would fit in with my friends, except that we are almost all much older.
Great tune. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for listening
One of my favorite songs by the Stones, I could listen to it all day but I never got around to looking at the meaning behind the lyrics. Thank you Irish girl from the internet.
I looked it up a while back then forgot the meaning
It’s supposed to be about the death of a loved one. But it’s been heavily associated with the Vietnam war
I’m so glad I brought something to the table!
@@DianeJennings " I want to see the sun blotted out from the sky. "
They played this and most of their other big hits when I saw them I concert in November 2021
Diane , you would have made a great 60s “Flower Child”. My favorite music era. Would love to see you react to 70s era “Fleetwood Mac” who capitalized on making music about the relationship failings amongst each other. They stayed a group despite their romantic fails and cranked out some masterpieces to move to!
Fleetwood Mac coming out to you next week
@@terrymockler 👍👍oh yea!!! Most people don’t know that They did “Black Magic Woman” before Carlos.
@@terrymockler indeed I was just talking today about how I don’t care for the album version of “Sympathy…” but I Love the Get your Ya Yas version where Mick Taylor rips opposite Keith’s solo.
@@terrymockler The one and only to me. Jim
@@DianeJennings Please check out early Fleetwood Mac before they went commercial. Then Play On is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Peter Green and Danny Kirwan on guitars.
Keith Richards is only 208 years old, wille nelson is only 197
Soooo today, Diane entered the world of The Rolling Stones
She's heard of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Brian Jones
She selected Paint It Black for the music reaction
It was picked over Give Me Shelter and Satisfaction
I'm happy with any song choice, including Get Off of My Cloud
As long as there was chair dancing and she turned it up loud
Excellent work from our Poet Laureate.
Heehee!!!! Again again!!
And Charlie Watts! I think Bill Wyman was the only one not mentioned, but I could be wrong.
there used to be a great show on tv back in the early 90s called tour of duty. paint it black was the shows theme song played during intros. i love this song.
I remember seeing them doing this song on the Ed Sullivan show (Live TV show) back in the 60's. I was hooked immediately. Great song.
I love your dancing! Seriously, you look like you are having a good time listening to the song.
This is my all time favorite song.
My favourite song of all time.
nice dance moves Diane awesome video.
You need to do Sympathy for the Devil next! Absolutely wicked!
Yes it is
Paint It Black is my favorite Rolling Stones song.
First time I heard Paint It Black the song, it was used as the intro to the tv show Tour Of Duty. In the shows into.. one of the soldiers pulled back the charging handle to his M16, then the drums to the song started and it was go time.
It really is a good psych up song!
Watched that show all the time with my Dad!
I'm a Stones fan for sure. As a Helicopter Pilot who used to work in New York, I used to fly a lot of celebrities. Some of them were, how to say this nicely, Un-friendly. Some though, were cool. I had the pleasure to fly Mick Jagger once back in the 80's and can say that Mr. Jagger definitely falls into the Cool category. Great video as always. You definitely should go through their greatest hits albums when you have the time.
This is my favorite Rolling Stones tune. I dig the more bluesy stuff. Yay! \o/.
One of my favorite songs.
Great to see you dancing! Velvet looked at me, like, "what are you listening to?" lol.
😁 good girl Velvet!
"Paint It Black" in movies
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
The Devil's Advocate (1997)
Stir of Echoes (1999)
The Mummy (2017)
Black Adam (2022)
and probably 20 more I forgetting
It was also the theme song to the show Tour of Duty (1987)
Ooooh! I think I remember it from full metal jacket. Now you say it
Looks like is was also used in the new Wednesday Netflex show.
Her take is from a parallel universe. Paint it Black - Fun!!! Wish I could hear it the way she does lol
Older *Rolling Stones* songs, like _Paint it Black, Ruby Tuesday, You Can't Always Get What You Want,_ are my preferred Stones' tunes. Plus one surprisingly great late 90's song called _Saint of Me._
Happy Friday Diane! Sorry I missed you in the FHC, but we had Severe Weather Coverage forEver! This is one of my favorite songs by them it and Gimme Shelter. Have a great weekend!
Still loving this content!
A favorite of mine. Great song.🎼🎶👍🤭
I love your reaction to this . Iwent to Mic Jagger's house in ocho rios, Jamaica. It just this huuge glass thi g on a hill overlooking the bay!
My dad used to cover this in his band. I love your choices in music to react to. Its the music my parents plaey for me growing up. And like you said I can remember those days, when it wasn't just background music, anymore, i remember singing this onstage with my dad when I was like 7at some huge party. I just wandered out on atage and starting singing, and everyone thought it was so cute Bkers and drunk tough guys gave a standing ovation.
The humming portion is what has gone through my head in every fistfight I have ever been in. (Soldier from '88-92 and raised in a rural area where fighting was norm)
This song is about 55 years old. The 60's were amazing!
Great song for a reaction, definitely one of those sound track of life songs that we didn’t know we’ve heard. I’ve been hooked on this ditty since it was used for the credits in “Devil’s Advocate”
Which is interesting, because you know, you'd think it would've been, "Sympathy for the Devil," but "Paint it Black" works well there. Underrated flick, but a terrible Keanu accent.
The best use of one of their songs for creepy nurse was in Fallen when "time is on my side" appeared throughout the film
@@MattLovesVinyl I thought the same about sympathy for the Devil, but this song DOES capture the vibe & idea of wanting to corrupt the world
@@LindaC616 I just googled that film, don’t know how I missed it, looks like it’s going on “the list”
I love how Mick's singing about his black heart, and Diane's just having a grand time.
The best of the best of the best. It just can't get any better
Great reaction, the Rolling Stones are one of Rock's oldest intact bands that still tours, with the drummer Charlie Watts passing in 2021, most of their music is well known, a track that is also very good is Sympathy for the Devil. Another American band you may like is Metallica, their songs - Nothing else matters, and Enter Sandman is very popular.
Metallica are on my shortlist. Great suggestion!
The into for the tv show Tour of Duty and the ending credits to the film Full Metal Jacket. It’s a dark song with nice a beat!
I actually really enjoyed the contrast between the meaning and the tone
@@DianeJennings One of those songs that’s gotten better with age, in my opinion.
Rolling stone gathers no moss.
Paint It Black has been used in numerous movies, TV shows and video games. Recently, you may have heard it in the series Wednesday, where Wednesday Addams plays it on a cello. The Stones have a huge catalog of songs, and you've likely heard several without paying much attention to them over the years. A particular favorite of mine is Gimme Shelter, that includes possibly the greatest performance ever by a backup singer. Merry Clayton put everything into her singing and positively steals the show from Mick Jagger. I was able to see the Rolling Stones play live twice during their most recent US tour, In Las Vegas on November 6th, 2021 and then in Detroit on November 15th, 2021. They still put on a great show.
Thinking China Beach was one of them ? Not sure
Oh yeeeeeeah! You’re totally right
Actually China Beach was Relections; Painted Black was Tour of Duty my bád.
I'm still stunned that you haven't listened to so many of these classic and influential artists. I guess I'm older than I thought.
Same
Jumpin' Jack Flash and Brown Sugar are my 2 favourite Rolling Stones songs
Well, it's such a happy song. About a funeral. Well that sounds more like an Editor Diane thing, but Diane rocks out to it.

Great song with a haunting melody. Written in a minor Key with a fabulous guitar line, vocals & absolutely great drumming by Charlie Watts.
Yeah, Charlie was an amazing drummer. He made The Rolling Stones sound as much as Mick and Keith did.

This is my personal favorite Rolling Stones song!
The Rolling Stones, I saw them in the early 80's in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. Jagger fathered a couple of children with Jerry Hall, who was from Mesquite, TX, a suburb of Dallas!
You are good this. Glad I found you. Yes, as said below, "Gimme Shelter" also from this "Hot Rocks" greatest hits album. Actually, most songs on this (greatest hits) album are good to do. I hope you keep doing this.
This song was in many different movies, and the one that always comes to mind when I hear the song, is Full Metal Jacket.
A fantastic classic rock hit from 1966, the Beatles were playing middle eastern and Indian influenced music so the stones followed suit with this hit, Brian Jones played the sitar which is prominent throughout this song, the stones will live forever with their music, upstate new york
it's nice how you noticed this song from a movie. It's in the end credits of 'Full Metal Jacket'.
I was a teenager when it came out so I have real memories of this. Given how old this is, does it feel old to younger listeners.
I do so love it when somebody young enough to be my grandchild reacts favorably to music I remember when it was new and I was young and innocent(-ish).😎
great song and group,
This was used as the theme song for CHINA BEACH series.. loved that show!
This song reminds me of the TV show Tour of Duty, as it was the theme song for it back in 1987.
I'm 71, so imagine being a teenager 15 in 1966, and you have been forced to listen to post-WWII music, about, 'little lambs eating ivy, (which I loved by the way) to this! It (the English invasion), hit our parents like WWIII.
Your a goddess. Great to see your getting into classic tunes. No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not foresee this thing happening to you
I hre up listening to the Stones My mom was a huge fan
Wow you're adorable 😍
You could charm the stars and hypnotize the moon.
Always think of Vietnam when I hear that song.🤔
YES THIS SONG WAS IN MANY MOVIES ABOUT THE VIETNAM WAR, THE SERIES TOUR OF DUTY BACK IN THE LATE 80'S HAD PAINT IT BLACK AS THE MAIN THEME SONG AS THE HUEY CHOPPERS FLY SOLDIERS TO THE BATTLEFIELD. AS A SOUTH AFRICAN AT THE TIME I SOON WENT TO MY OWN VIETNAM AS A SOLDIER FOR 32 BATTALION IN THE ANGOLAN WAR SO THIS MUSIC HELPED A LOT. BUT M FAV WHICH WE SANG A LOT JUST LIKE THOSE US SOLDIERS IN VIETNAM WAS "WE'VE GOTTA GET OUTTA THIS PLACE" BY THE ANIMALS
