One of my favorite songs by the Stones, I could listen to it all day but I never got around to looking at the meaning behind the lyrics. Thank you Irish girl from the internet.
Older *Rolling Stones* songs, like _Paint it Black, Ruby Tuesday, You Can't Always Get What You Want,_ are my preferred Stones' tunes. Plus one surprisingly great late 90's song called _Saint of Me._
Paint It Black is my favorite Rolling Stones song. First time I heard Paint It Black the song, it was used as the intro to the tv show Tour Of Duty. In the shows into.. one of the soldiers pulled back the charging handle to his M16, then the drums to the song started and it was go time.
It’s great see you get so much out of a classic rock song. The Rolling Stones are the best. Short list of essential Stones: 1. Satisfaction 2. Jumpin’ Jack Flash 3. You Can’t Always Get What You Want 4. Gimme Shelter
You are right that verse is: I wanna see it painted Painted black Black as night Black as coal I wanna see the sun Blotted out from the sky I wanna see it painted, painted, painted Painted black, yeah The video probably used a "bot" to generate the displayed lyrics, It's weird, because it's from a STONES channel, Not some kids basement.
The humming portion is what has gone through my head in every fistfight I have ever been in. (Soldier from '88-92 and raised in a rural area where fighting was norm)
Paint It Black has been used in numerous movies, TV shows and video games. Recently, you may have heard it in the series Wednesday, where Wednesday Addams plays it on a cello. The Stones have a huge catalog of songs, and you've likely heard several without paying much attention to them over the years. A particular favorite of mine is Gimme Shelter, that includes possibly the greatest performance ever by a backup singer. Merry Clayton put everything into her singing and positively steals the show from Mick Jagger. I was able to see the Rolling Stones play live twice during their most recent US tour, In Las Vegas on November 6th, 2021 and then in Detroit on November 15th, 2021. They still put on a great show.
Great reaction, the Rolling Stones are one of Rock's oldest intact bands that still tours, with the drummer Charlie Watts passing in 2021, most of their music is well known, a track that is also very good is Sympathy for the Devil. Another American band you may like is Metallica, their songs - Nothing else matters, and Enter Sandman is very popular.
Paint It Black is my favorite song of theirs, it came out when I was a teenager and a drummer in a rock band. The drums are featured in the beginning and it is a powerful, driving song but we never did it as a band.
I'm a Stones fan for sure. As a Helicopter Pilot who used to work in New York, I used to fly a lot of celebrities. Some of them were, how to say this nicely, Un-friendly. Some though, were cool. I had the pleasure to fly Mick Jagger once back in the 80's and can say that Mr. Jagger definitely falls into the Cool category. Great video as always. You definitely should go through their greatest hits albums when you have the time.
A fantastic classic rock hit from 1966, the Beatles were playing middle eastern and Indian influenced music so the stones followed suit with this hit, Brian Jones played the sitar which is prominent throughout this song, the stones will live forever with their music, upstate new york
"Paint It Black" in movies Full Metal Jacket (1987) The Devil's Advocate (1997) Stir of Echoes (1999) The Mummy (2017) Black Adam (2022) and probably 20 more I forgetting

Song Review Suggestion/Recommendation: “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” by the Dropkick Murphys… . I’m curious if you’ve ever considered doing a Video about Irish references from “Family Guy” (as I’m sure there are plenty) and, if you already have, whether you could direct my attention to the Video(s)…Much of my family and many of relatives live near Boston, Massachusetts; plus my Dad has practically the exact same Accent as Peter Griffin! This contributes to why I enjoy watching “Family Guy” so much! I’m not Irish, but I often hear that Boston is a very Irish town…What I’ve learned from having friends who were either born deaf or who had lost their hearing at very young ages is that Accents are mainly a “Hearing World” thing and it’s most likely that someone with hearing difficulties (or inabilities) will probably fail to realize when an Accent is, in fact, present…With AI/Auto-Generated Captioning having gotten so accurate at this point that it now understands Accents a lot better, AI/Auto-Captioning now moreso conceals any potential Accents & Dialects from deaf persons who are relying on the Captioning to figure out what people are saying in their Videos…The far-better AI/Auto-Generated Captioning places more emphasis on how outspoken people are (in their Videos) about where they’re from or their Accents as being any deaf person’s means of determining whether or not someone in a Video might (or might not) have an Accent…While you’re very outspoken about being Irish, lots of people are quite discrete about where they’re from; while I’m able to hear (and, therefore, would notice an Accent of a person in a Video), somebody who’s deaf would likely be left guessing and wondering where the person in the Video is from, if he/she is very discrete about where he/she is from…Otherwise, local slang words might also be another tool a deaf person could use to determine whether a possible Accent is present…Or if even the people Commenting on their LiveStreams and/or Videos point out their Accents or the person in the Video mentions their Accent…Or figure if a person is from Ireland, it’s probably safe to assume that he/she likely speaks with an Irish Accent; although, the strength of his/her Accent is left entirely up to the imagination of the deaf person(s) reading through their Closed-Captioning…Yet, people who were born deaf (and, thus, don’t even know what Speech sounds like, much less Accents) probably won’t be wondering about who might (or might not) have an Accent…In my personal experiences, it’s always been those of my friends who went deaf at young ages who have been asking me-via Text Messages-about whether or not this or that UA-camr has an Accent of any kind…Because I don’t know any Sign Language and my friends don’t speak and can’t understand speech either, I always need to communicate with friends by Text Messages all the time…My friends can’t watch your LiveStreams until they’re later saved to your Channel as regular Videos, thus (hopefully) gaining Auto-Captioning (usually, a day or two afterwards)…My friends turn on the “CC” (so they can figure out what’s being said in Videos) and they hand me the remote so I can, meanwhile, turn on the Sound and I just ignore the Captions and listen to what’s being said in Videos…
I was a little taken aback to see Diane merrily bopping along to a song about the rage and pain of loss! It never would have occurred to me to describe "Paint It Black" as _happy_ or _cheerful_ - the song's energy always felt more _angry_ (or at the very least _driven)_ to me. Anyway. After watching this reaction, I think Diane would also enjoy Led Zeppelin's "The Lemon Song." Not even to react to, necessarily - I just think she might enjoy listening to it.
What a delightful young woman, and the reaction to The Rolling Stones, hearing "Paint It Black" was great. Now take the leap from late 60's Stones about 35 years to 2003 and listen to The Rolling Stones - Midnight Rambler (Live) Official, Madison Square Gardens. Brian Jones is long dead, Mick Taylor has moved on, Bill Wyman has retired, But Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts along with Darryl Jones on bass and Chuck Leavell on keyboards will leave you stunned.
there used to be a great show on tv back in the early 90s called tour of duty. paint it black was the shows theme song played during intros. i love this song.
The Rolling Stones, I saw them in the early 80's in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. Jagger fathered a couple of children with Jerry Hall, who was from Mesquite, TX, a suburb of Dallas!
Great song for a reaction, definitely one of those sound track of life songs that we didn’t know we’ve heard. I’ve been hooked on this ditty since it was used for the credits in “Devil’s Advocate”
Which is interesting, because you know, you'd think it would've been, "Sympathy for the Devil," but "Paint it Black" works well there. Underrated flick, but a terrible Keanu accent.
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil (Official Lyric Video) Want to know a secret?? Shh . Come closer .. The Rolling Stones is the best country/blues band ever. The way it is tuned and setup on the instruments. They could turn up the volume but knew where their bread was buttered. The depth of this is amazing. Love ya and thanks for your inviting us on your trip ..
I always favored the Beatles, but have to admit that the Stones wrote tons of memorable songs. Their whole body of work is unmatched, and may never be equaled. To think, we had a period of time when the Beatles, Stones, Who, Deep Purple, and Zeppelin all roamed the earth at the same time.

Thanks for the info! It’s always interesting to find out how bonds get their names. It’s usually a real nothing moment and then they’re stuck with that forever.😂
Also yes, this song has been in EVERYTHING. It's one of those songs. Like Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower & Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son being an a Vietnam War film.
Gimme Shelter, Sympathy For the Devil and Jumpin' Jack Flash are quintessential Stones songs you may have heard in movies as well. Highly recommend listening to Bert Janch's version of Blackwaterside if you haven't already. It's a traditional folk song likely originating in Northern Ireland that's influenced a lot of 60's and 70's (and beyond) artists.
Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones (28 February 1942 - 3 July 1969) was an English multi-instrumentalist and singer best known as the founder, rhythm/lead guitarist of the Rolling Stones. His death was referenced in songs by many other pop bands, and Pete Townshend (The Who) and Jim Morrison (The Doors) wrote poems about it. In 1989, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Rolling Stones. Jim Morrison of the Doors published a poem titled "Ode to L.A. While Thinking of Brian Jones, Deceased". Coincidentally, Jimi Hendrix and Morrison both died within the following two years, with Morrison's death falling on the same date as Jones's. All three died at the age of 27, therefore all in "The 27 club".

Im so glad that new generations are getting to experience their music.
It fades out, you could say it fades to black… Perhaps the Best of the Rolling Stone’s hits! I can’t help wondering how much this song eventually influenced/inspired the goth movement.
If you listen to the lyrics, rather than just bopping to the tune, you would realize the song is about a man who just lost a woman he loves very much, and he is in deep mourning as a result. But, hey! I'm glad you had so much fun with it...
Now that you mentioned Rolling Stone Magazine, check out Dr Hook and the Medicine Show and their song, The Cover of the Rolling Stone. How are you and Lord Chewey enjoying your time in sunny Spain?
Good choice to react to. I'm not a big Rolling Stones fan, but even I dig this song. It should also make the rude commenters happy. You don't talk much and look adorable doing your in place dancing.
The Rolling Stones are definitely OGs of rock, and they were producing hits straight through from the 60s into the 80s. The late 60s had some of the greatest creativity. If you haven't listened much to that era, it's when teeny bopper music branched out and became more mature and experimental. "Gimme Shelter," "Love Reign O'er Me," "White Rabbit," "Me and Bobby McGee," "Layla," "Roundabout," "Frankenstein," just about anything from The Doors (Crystal Ship, LA Woman, Peace Frog, Riders on the Storm, etc.), "Kashmir," and just on and on. Gary Brooker singing his heart out on "A Whiter Shade of Pale." So many wonderfully artistic songs. "Evening: Nights in White Satin, plus Late Lament." "God Only Knows." And of course the Beatles should be in there somewhere. Pink Floyd. Nilsson. And what I consider to be the first modern rock song, "Like A Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan, when he switched from acoustic guitar and folk to electric guitar and rock. Simon & Garfunkel.

It was picked over Give Me Shelter and Satisfaction
I'm happy with any song choice, including Get Off of My Cloud
As long as there was chair dancing and she turned it up loud
Excellent work from our Poet Laureate.
Heehee!!!! Again again!!
And Charlie Watts! I think Bill Wyman was the only one not mentioned, but I could be wrong.
My favourite Rolling Stones song and my second favourite songs of all time. Love your reaction Diane Rolling Stones are legends
Always delightful Diane. 😊 I'm glad you enjoyed the song. The Rolling Stones are my favorite band ever.
So good! It’s great to be able to connect the music with the names of the bands
One of my favorite songs by the Stones, I could listen to it all day but I never got around to looking at the meaning behind the lyrics. Thank you Irish girl from the internet.
I looked it up a while back then forgot the meaning
It’s supposed to be about the death of a loved one. But it’s been heavily associated with the Vietnam war
I’m so glad I brought something to the table!
@@DianeJennings " I want to see the sun blotted out from the sky. "
It really is a good psych up song!
Watched that show all the time with my Dad!
It’s great see you get so much out of a classic rock song. The Rolling Stones are the best. Short list of essential Stones:
1. Satisfaction
2. Jumpin’ Jack Flash
3. You Can’t Always Get What You Want
4. Gimme Shelter
I could have sworn the lyric went "I want to see the sun, blotted out from the sky" instead of flying high in the sky.
You are right that verse is:
I wanna see it painted
Painted black
Black as night
Black as coal
I wanna see the sun
Blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted
Painted black, yeah
The video probably used a "bot" to generate the displayed lyrics, It's weird, because it's from a STONES channel, Not some kids basement.
They played this and most of their other big hits when I saw them I concert in November 2021
Thinking China Beach was one of them ? Not sure
Oh yeeeeeeah! You’re totally right
Actually China Beach was Relections; Painted Black was Tour of Duty my bád.
Always fun to see you Rocking out Diane!
Always
Great reaction, the Rolling Stones are one of Rock's oldest intact bands that still tours, with the drummer Charlie Watts passing in 2021, most of their music is well known, a track that is also very good is Sympathy for the Devil. Another American band you may like is Metallica, their songs - Nothing else matters, and Enter Sandman is very popular.
Metallica are on my shortlist. Great suggestion!
Paint It Black is my favorite song of theirs, it came out when I was a teenager and a drummer in a rock band. The drums are featured in the beginning and it is a powerful, driving song but we never did it as a band.
Check out their song JUMPIN' JACK FLASH. ❤
You need to do Sympathy for the Devil next! Absolutely wicked!
Yes it is
I'm a Stones fan for sure.
The into for the tv show Tour of Duty and the ending credits to the film Full Metal Jacket. It’s a dark song with nice a beat!
I actually really enjoyed the contrast between the meaning and the tone
@@DianeJennings One of those songs that’s gotten better with age, in my opinion.
One of my favorite songs by them.
This is my favorite Stones song!! Great reaction vid 😎
It is a great song
Thank you!! 😁
Well, it's such a happy song. About a funeral. Well that sounds more like an Editor Diane thing, but Diane rocks out to it.
🤘🏻
"Paint It Black" in movies
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
The Devil's Advocate (1997)
Stir of Echoes (1999)
The Mummy (2017)
Black Adam (2022)
and probably 20 more I forgetting
It was also the theme song to the show Tour of Duty (1987)
Ooooh! I think I remember it from full metal jacket. Now you say it
Looks like is was also used in the new Wednesday Netflex show.
I love your react videos. I’ve heard this song used for many tv shows and movies about Vietnam. I don’t know much about The Rolling Stones either but truly love this song since the first time I heard it
How are you doing?
That’s so great to hear Heather! It’s a really uplifting song
I always enjoy watching you react to things. You seem like you would fit in with my friends, except that we are almost all much older.
Song Review Suggestion/Recommendation: “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” by the Dropkick Murphys…
.
I'm still stunned that you haven't listened to so many of these classic and influential artists. I guess I'm older than I thought.
Same
Classic Rolling Stones ❤
Great song with a haunting melody. Written in a minor Key with a fabulous guitar line, vocals & absolutely great drumming by Charlie Watts.
Yeah, Charlie was an amazing drummer. He made The Rolling Stones sound as much as Mick and Keith did.
I remember seeing them doing this song on the Ed Sullivan show (Live TV show) back in the 60's. I was hooked immediately. Great song.
there used to be a great show on tv back in the early 90s called tour of duty. paint it black was the shows theme song played during intros. i love this song.
The Rolling Stones, I saw them in the early 80's in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. Jagger fathered a couple of children with Jerry Hall, who was from Mesquite, TX, a suburb of Dallas!
This song is about 55 years old. The 60's were amazing!
The best use of one of their songs for creepy nurse was in Fallen when "time is on my side" appeared throughout the film
@@MattLovesVinyl I thought the same about sympathy for the Devil, but this song DOES capture the vibe & idea of wanting to corrupt the world
@@LindaC616 I just googled that film, don’t know how I missed it, looks like it’s going on “the list”
Thanks for reacting to it Diane!
My pleasure!!
I love how Mick's singing about his black heart, and Diane's just having a grand time.
Old geezer here... this was a staple for my garage band days. All things Stones were de rigueur in high school.
Great video Diane! A classic song to check out! And the Rolling Stones have many! Love your videos my dear! Keep up the wonderful work!
In Sympathy For the Devil is one of the best guitar solos ever and so much restrain you'd never know. Sometimes the best of a song is where you have that moment of silence. A rest ..
This is my all time favorite song.
Oh, I commented on one of your later videos to react to this, love it!
Rock On, Irish Girl!! Paint It Black is one of my favorite Rolling Stones tunes! Chewie is Twerkin' while Diane does The Frug! So glad I now get to use all these awesome DJ emojis now!!!
I must say, Dan! You are absolutely using them to full affect. Actually, I think you win.
I’m 72 yo. Grew up with The Rolling Stones…saw them in person in Toronto in the ‘70’s. That’s exactly how I reacted the first time I heard them. You are awesome!
Rolling stone gathers no moss.
Diane, stay on this awesome journey!
Great to see you dancing! Velvet looked at me, like, "what are you listening to?" lol.
😁 good girl Velvet!
YES THIS SONG WAS IN MANY MOVIES ABOUT THE VIETNAM WAR, THE SERIES TOUR OF DUTY BACK IN THE LATE 80'S HAD PAINT IT BLACK AS THE MAIN THEME SONG AS THE HUEY CHOPPERS FLY SOLDIERS TO THE BATTLEFIELD. AS A SOUTH AFRICAN AT THE TIME I SOON WENT TO MY OWN VIETNAM AS A SOLDIER FOR 32 BATTALION IN THE ANGOLAN WAR SO THIS MUSIC HELPED A LOT. BUT M FAV WHICH WE SANG A LOT JUST LIKE THOSE US SOLDIERS IN VIETNAM WAS "WE'VE GOTTA GET OUTTA THIS PLACE" BY THE ANIMALS
Jumpin' Jack Flash and Brown Sugar are my 2 favourite Rolling Stones songs
Great tune. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for listening
Mick Jagger had a part in the 1991 film Freejack. He was there during the failed 1969 Altamont Free Concert in California.
Andrew Oldham recorded an instrumental version of The Last Time.
It's a great song! The Stones took their name from a lyric in a blues song. Very much enjoy seeing you groovin' to their music. 😊
It was Rolling Stone by Muddy Waters.
@@Jeff_Lichtman Yep! Was pretty sure Diane wouldn't know Muddy. 😊
Thanks for the info! It’s always interesting to find out how bonds get their names. It’s usually a real nothing moment and then they’re stuck with that forever.😂
My favourite song of all time.
it's nice how you noticed this song from a movie. It's in the end credits of 'Full Metal Jacket'.
Her take is from a parallel universe. Paint it Black - Fun!!! Wish I could hear it the way she does lol
Worldwide #1 Hit in 1966….57 years ago.
Still rocking today and are in the studio making an album now.
Jagger is the Greatest Rock Star in history
The best of the best of the best. It just can't get any better
This song was in many different movies, and the one that always comes to mind when I hear the song, is Full Metal Jacket.
I'm 71, so imagine being a teenager 15 in 1966, and you have been forced to listen to post-WWII music, about, 'little lambs eating ivy, (which I loved by the way) to this! It (the English invasion), hit our parents like WWIII.
you are in the right era of their career to begin your Stones journey... 1965 to 1967.... try Ruby Tuesday, Mother's Little Helper, Get Off My Cloud, Let's Spend the Night Together, Heart of Stone, and 19th Nervous Breakdown.... and of course the break-through monster hit that made them a world wide sensation...Satisfaction
You need to see their live performances 1966 Lady Jane and the Paint it Black.. pull up 1972 GIMME SHELTER LIVE performance. Pull up 1971 MIDNIGHT GAMBLER live at the Marqee Club. YOU CANT ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT,DOO DOO DOO DOO HEARTBREAKER, OFF OF MY CLOUD, PLAY WITH FIRE. SOME GREAT ROCK BALLADS ARE WILD HORSES, RUBY TUESDAY AND ANGIE. THE FIRST TIME IVHEARD RHE STONES WAS ON THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW IN 1964. I SAW THE BEATLES IN 1965 at the ATLANTA STADIUM. They were Great. I never got to go to a Stones Concert even though they were my favorite. They didnt come to Geogia but a few times in the 60s and9 70s. Im so glad that new generations are getting to experience their music.
Great video~ The Stones used the sitar in Paint It Black shortly after the Beatles used it in Norwegian Wood. Both are great songs.
This song was in the soundtrack for "Apocalypse Now"
It fades out, you could say it fades to black…
Perhaps the Best of the Rolling Stone’s hits!
This is my favorite Rolling Stones tune. I dig the more bluesy stuff. Yay! \o/.
Haha fair! They all get copyright claimed, so might as well play them through
Don't know if anyone has said yet! But was the theme in band of brothers
