    Wow. What a beautiful chassis/frame set-up. It's art work for sure. I have a couple of observations: you used white grease on some of the soft bushings for lube. I always used silicon based grease for that. It was always recommended to use this type of grease as it is warned that the petroleum based white grease is not good for the soft parts. Also on the nuts that are mounted on the rear of the calipers, you did not use red lock-tite. You also did not lube the caliper slide with high temp brake lube to make the pads slide freely. Most of us gear-heads would kill for that set-up. Must cost a small fortune. Great work.

    I was taught by the airplane builders and mechanics that you always put bolts in a front to back and top to down then install the rest of the hardware. And just quick little note the conventional way a shock is installed is with the body on the suspension member and the shaft up to the body side of the chassis it was racers, I think Carerra that started producing the "upside down" shocks to cut down on unsprung weight which allows a lighter shock valving to increase bite in the car.

    When you torque fasteners, you should always torque the nut if possible. Applying torque to the bolt will cause an under torque condition. This is because of the additional friction acting on the bolt surfaces.

    Very nice, BUT oem used steering stops built into the lower control arms. I don't see any so your rack assembly is the steering stops.
    Oems never did it that way, steering travel was limited at the steering knuckles so the steering box was never at it's max travel.
    At this quality and cost level I would expect the upper control arm to be the type ( few do it this way) that you lengthen or shorten the upper arm length for front end adjustments.
    Using shims, eccentric cams, etc, that move the fixed length arm in or out potentially induces bumpsteer. Your rear end on the video does it right with him joints for adjustments ( provided the eccentric cam reference paint marks have the pivot points in line and final adjustments with the threaded sleeves).
    The typical ills I see on most of these systems are no steering stops, maybe missing compression/extension rubber bump stops, eccentric cams, shims, etc, a rack and pinion system using a fixed length intermediate shaft that connects column to rack.
    Oems never did a fixed length intermediate shaft it's always collapsible in case of a front end collision. I sure wouldn't want the steering wheel being pushed into my face in a head on collision.
    I guess these manufacturers have enough liability insurance to cover their unsafe assemblies they are selling to the general public.

    10:05 what if the shims do not fit after powder coating? How critical is it that they all go in and back in same order?

    • @tombrenes2411
      @tombrenes2411 Рік тому

      When it comes to shims at high speeds you get, uneven tire wear, uneven heat on the tires and when the frame is in torsion it doesn’t feel tight.
      Parts get worn un even.
