Around 1972/73 my oldest brother rolled his ‘70 beetle and smashed in the top. He drove it that way for about a year until he found another body then he and my brothers swapped out the bodies in the side yard of our parents house. I haven’t seen a bare rolling VW pan since then! This is a great project!
I’m also a VW lover , me , I would redo the whole bug like it was brand new . And drive it daily… but that’s just me . Good to see that this one is making it to life …❤
I always found building the chassis is the most rewarding part of the restoration. I think you're finding it that way as well. Keep up the ecellent work and videos,
I've seen you disassemble a couple cars... But this build is the best!!! Back in 1978 I my 1st car was a 65 Beetle, Beige with a sliding metal sunroof. I loved it. But when they broke down, they were just finished...my car had a solid floor pan, after 2 motor jobs, I found a 67 beetle... best of luck!!
Me and Dad like the beetle. He has a 1983 with a 1.6 liter engine in black. We are VW and FIAT enthusiasts. We live in the south of Brazil in the city of Florianópolis. Good job! Hugs!
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video! Brings back memories! I had a 1960 Bug, a 1970 Bug and a Bug chassis and a fiberglass body with a Corvair turbocharged engine in my youth!
I love these chassis vids for the wide open and well photographed view of the engineering, structure and mechanics the Beetle. It taught me a lot and instantly answered questions I was curious about. Its a great video guide. Thanks.
I agree with you that it is looking better. A little trick I learned on you seam sealer is to put masking tape down on both side of the seam gives you a good clean line of sealer.
I love it. A '66 Beetle was bought new by me as my first car after high school graduation. As a kid I unfortunately drove it into the ground prematurely. I'd love to have another to treat much better this time.
Looking great. It's such a good feeling when you start out with scrap and it ends up looking and being new! Taking an angled reading on the spring plate whilst it's on the stops won't tell you anything. You need to set the angle whilst the plates are not rested on the stop.
Right on on the spring plate readings; if they’re on the stops you cannot measure anything; they’ll be in the same place all the time. The point of that is to measure the resistance or stiffness of the torsion bars.
C.T., I've learned a lot from your videos. I like your attention to each detail as you work. Kudos to you for always wearing your safety gear even if it is uncomfortable. Thank you for sharing your acquired knowledge with us.
Excellent job, I refurbished a 1956 Chevy Stepside pick-up truck in South Africa recently taking 16 years to complete as all the work was meticulously refurbished just as you have done here. The only exception was that I used a copper based anti-siege grease on all chassis and body nuts and bolts. I sadly sold it last year as I returned to the UK. Keep up the good work
You have demonstrated good housekeeping and safety methods. Very instructive methods on thus far. Looking forward to your next episode of this rebuilding project.👍
WOW!!!!! I need to get a 65 N O W!!! Your inspiration & dedication, not to mention the tear down & the build up, complete with part tear down, step by step rebuilding (G O D , you make the process EASY! Like making your F A V O R I T E cake and someone else has already premixed the ingredients & pre-heated the oven❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video and very instructive even without dialogue. I've watched many VW restos and done my own too. One thing I wish you could help us all with, even though it might be hard to do, would be to talk about part costs as you go through the process. No one ever tells how much it costs to do these. Since you are doing the whole thing, it might help others know what they might expect to dole out. I keep a log, but hearing it at points along the way would be great.
Good job! You are an excellent mechanic, service of someone who knows the mechanics of the Volkswagen Beetle. Good job! You are an excellent mechanic, service of someone who knows the mechanics of the Volkswagen Beetle.
Keep going with your projects, it's so Nice to watch. I'm rebuilting an old Volkswagen type 3 here in Brazil on my house, is a huge Challenge to me, but never surrender!
Excellent video. Best I have ever watched on UA-cam restoring an automobile professionally. My sincere congratulations. Excellent job!! I really enjoy it. You are the best!!!
I like the way you guys work and get things done with more work and less talk, I enjoy watching you, and no drinking on the job keep it up, I can't wait to see the bug complete with a 2.4 Subaru motor in it.
back in the mid 80s i had an old man that owned a salvage yard talk me into spending my hard earned money on a VW he had out back. i been working for the old man about 18 months. long story short, that lil 67 Bug turned out to be one of the quickest lil cars I've ever had. i can still hear them 2bll Webber carbs singing. embarrassed a lot of V8s, specially 5.0s. IMA FAN BRO, love it. air cooled all day.
So satisfying to watch. Got me motivated to go in my garage and finish my 60 bug. The only thing holding me back right now is my air compressor went out.
Good job, I'm using the same tires from ''Petlas'' manufactured in Turkey on my Citroen C 3 I'm very satisfied with them. they are quite durable, comfortable, and very affordable tires.
I watched the entire video and my heart sank at the end when he said, "We're going to keep the original patina." Surely people don't think adding a coat of gloss over rust looks good, ugh.
I agree. Weird infatuation with patina. It looks terrible. I know people with have done it to a restored Road Runner and an old Defender. Shiny rust sitting in pristine undercarriage. It’s dumb.
Surely there are other tastes than your own 😂 I personally love kept patina, especially on a fresh and prestine undercarriage/frame. For me over the top, nuts and bolts-restorations dont do it, since it removes the soul of a old machine. But each to his own. Great video - thanks!
The sweet smell of progress. A power Rusty beat up parts some paint effort lot of work. Little rusty starting to come together little bit at a time. 💪🏼🙂😎💯❤️

Been following your work, very happy to see it pay off! Keep on cranking!
After you rebuild with new seal gasket kit to the Beetle steering gear box. That you may have to add about half-way fill up with gear oil. Before when you took it apart the gear box, the oil did spill. Thanks for doing good in restoring foul up Beetle car that is rust.
Thank you CT … I just got my 65’ in my name here in cali.. I didn’t want to start the same project until I had a pink slip for it.. Due to my age I’m going to just put it together and get it running it looks and is just as worn out as your’s was .. I just got some rims for it and a later 1776 alternator engine with the dog house oil cooler.. yesterday I picked up a 66’ front hood and looking for some windwing doors… it has a couple California window doors in it now.. need to find front and rear seats and then I’ll have most of the body stuff except for front and rear bumpers.. hopefully by August I’ll be able to take a cruise with another friend that has a 65’.. thank you for such an awesome series of videos.. I’ll be doing my own but it won’t be as awesome as yours.. it’ll be a quick and dirty put put around towner… too many projects and not enough thyme.. like you, I’m more interested in the mechanical, side sticking with original patina as well.. maybe.. or just grey primer..
Great job,,best I've seen yet,,it's a credit to em the way that he has shown all of us how much work an time really goes into the likes of a project like that,,,he would definitely be the first person I'd have on my payroll if I wanted a job done,,,he seems like a nice chap aswell,, by far the best that i've seen,,what I really like about em is that even with small bolts he cleans em up not like some guys buying new ones,,,,yep first class,, best of luck from èire Ireland,,🇮🇪💯
Dear Reader, The Roman Senator Cato always seems to have ended his speeches in the Roman senat with the sentence: "By the way, I'm of the opinion that Carthago have to be destroyed". This is an important and possitive step in the reconstruction of the VW Beetle, very well executed by Mr. CT. Well, done, Sir. By the way, I'm of the opinion that the VW Ghia has to be restored after this project. Once, the Roman Senat decided that they indeed would destroy Carthago. So perhaps my remark will help to restore the VW Ghia in the near future. I do hope so. Michel F. van den Brun Viewer, started to watch the chanel of Mr. CT, at the moment he reconstructed the Ghia.
