Thank you. I was having a little trouble with that bolt at the bottom of the machine. Once I remove the cap which actually one of those plastic clips broke off. when I called Samsung they wanted $56 plus the shipping fee through FedEx cause that’s the only way they ship it which I thought was ridiculous for a plastic cap. Found it on Amazon for $11 now that you’ve showed me how to clean that dirty smell out of the washer. I appreciate it very much. I was quoted by Samsung a 250 to 350 to come out and work on it. I’m a do it yourself Guy and I really don’t like getting ripped off. Thanks again.
47 yr old mom of 2. I’m still paying off this washer and dryer. I can tell you that my machine kept forcing a cleaning cycle after washing blankets. I knew something wasn’t right. I followed these easy steps and now it’s working perfect. I use powder detergent that is supposedly safe for these machines and there was build up in there for sure. I did read I should use a cup of bleach and run the cleaning cycle. I wasn’t doing that but I will going forward. Good tip with the screw btw came up so easily unlike my last machine.
Omg I just washed 2 loads and my clean cycle popped up too lol. I’m cleaning it now but I need really clean it cause my friends sister has a dog that sheds like u would’ve believe so I’m sure his hair is ALL over inside there
Thank you for the video!! I've had residue appear on the clothes after the wash cycle and couldn't figure out how to clean it. I ran several self-clean cycles but that did not work, so I'll definitely try your technique.
Thank you very much for your tips on how to clean the washing machine inside mold build up easy to understand. Now I know how to remove the agitator too. You are awesome!!
Thank you for this great tip. I inherited this machine with the house I bought and one just doesn't know the maintenance history on appliances. Thanks again.
Excellent video, for the exact model of top-loading Samsung I own. My machine has been depositing black "spots" of slime on clean, light colored clothes coming out of the wash. When you go to scrape them off they smudge into the fabrics and make the staining WORSE! So the first clue is that these "clots" seem to be deposited on the clothes/sheets in the rinse cycle, and after all clothing is removed after the wash cycle ends, I find more of them all over the bottom of the tub. So obviously the drum is riddled with this sludge, and pieces of it break off into the wash/rinse water during the cycles, making clean clothes dirty. So I will be tackling this following your steps in taking it apart to get under the metal surfaces to scrub.
@@gennamalizia4997 Good luck, I could NOT loosen the bolt the holds the bttom pan down. When I try to turn it, the whole drum spins! And I can't get a solid hold of the smooth metal against the effort to turn the bolt counter-clockwise. INstead, I did three intensive citric-acid washes (with nothing in the wahser but hot water). I put the citric acid powder and a big scoop of oxi-clean in the drum, then run the self-clean cycle, and when it gets filled up, I PAUSE the washer, and fill another two gallons of boiling water. Then I use a huge spoon to swish the water throughout the drum, and let it sit for an hour, then I allow the washer to RESUME it's self-cleaning cycles. After the thrid time doing this, the slime deposits stopped appearing, so I guess I got rid of most of it. BUT, if it ever appears again I am committed to hiring a Samsung tech to come and remove the steel drum so that we can scrub the whole tub out. It's estimated to cost $350, but that's half of what a new washer costs.
I started trying to separate it and gave up…way too tedious. I bought a replacement that’s only the white assembly washplate lower without the stainless upper piece attached (name on Samsung parts site) for $125. Been using it about 6 months with no difference in performance. At least takes care of the mold that forms between these 2 pieces. I still have to take it off to clean the spider flange every few months. Ridiculous
I am getting ready to do this and was curious about that as well! Your video is wonderful and easy to follow. If you know of a way to separate the metal from the plastic in order to clean out the build-up, it would be so very appreciated! I'm going to try to do this on my own and don't want my husband to come home to a broken washer! 😊 Thanks again!
Did this yesterday, so easy! For a mom like me rhat likes to get in all the nooks and crannies I was relieved when I was able to do this and saw minimum build up. I keep the lid open although my husband hates it. Use minimum detergent and always use vinegar, baking soda and borax in my washes. I self clean with all 3 and add citric acid, I do this for my dishwasher too.
Im having this issue now, have tried baking soda, vinegar, bleach and cleaning tabs. I even got inside with toothbrush to clean around tub and pouring hot water thinking it would remove the dark flakes. Gonna try this method
Hey there, really love the video. You are the only person that has explained it and actually gave right information now I just got this exact washer. Used and clearly they did not clean this at all and I just found out from watching videos before I got to yours and then I got to yours and I was like oh my gosh this is the best one yet. Well, I’m having an issue with the first bolt to clean inside it’s not coming loose at all. I may be doing something wrong. I’m trying to clean this As I’m typing this comment. Thank you and hope to receive some feed back very soon
Yeah you're not wrong. There are several design flaws in these Samsung washer/dryers. Aside from mold, lint, they also have a problem with dissimilar metals under the wash basket and behind the dryer drum so they corrode. It'll be my last Samsung washer/dryer.
Excellent video. Thank you so much for being generous with your time and showing it. One other filter is important. The inlet valves behind the washer have a screen in them. Remove the water hoses and put a wet/dry vacuum hose up to each inlet valve to suck out and particles trapped by the screens. The machine will let you know that they are blocked by a code and your manual will explain that code. For a Dryer lint trap tip, remove the lint trap, attache a small hose to that wet-dry vac that will reach down into the trap cavity and suck out the lint that's stuck all over it. Now here is the best part but with a disclaimer. Do at your own risk. Caution needed so that your not injured with the drum turning, but you shouldn't be. Do not do this with children watching. With the door open, push in the door safety and secure it with tape etc. Get a strong air compressor with an air gun and that small hose that you used.earlier. With the door safety switch secured, turn on the dryer to "air only setting" and with the compressor running and using the air gun and small hose, blow down into the lint cavity towards the impeller fan all that clinging lint. This will clear all of the lint out of the lint cavity and thru the exhaust hose to the outside because it's being sucked out by the impeller fan. Keep that small hose away from the impellar fan as well as your fingers. Remember, DO AT YOUR OWN RISK! I have seen a video of a guy disconnecting the dryer vent hose from behind the dryer and using a leaf blower to blow out all the stuck lint that's in it to the outside. I have yet to try that, but it looks feasible. I would think that propping open the outside vent's louvers or cover will be more helpful.
My 7 year Maytag impeller was impossible to remove without destroying it. Yeah , all the brands mold and dirt in places you see. You have to clean them regularly. I found the Samsung impellers were the easiest to remove without getting fused to the drive shaft.
This was very good video. Thank you! My problem has been like sand and particles but it seems to be coming from the inner top around the rim. Do you know anything about that?
The mold doesn't entirely build up UNDER the agitator as mentioned at 7:00.... it's in between the silver/white portions of the agitator and is otherwise impossible to get out. Love that bacteria on my clothes! Very poor design.
you put your clothes away straight out of the washer lol? mold is fungi not bacteria btw but either way a 50 min cycle in a dryer on medium or high heat will kill it.
Yes. You’re correct. I just figured that out after cleaning it several times so I’m replacing the entire agitator. It’s almost impossible to pull it apart to clean
Man this is crazy. I've followed everyone's steps and mine refuse to come off. I took the bolt completely out and put back in just a bit. Nothing. Won't budge. Must be some serious buildup.
It has a self clean i find works well. I havent taken the bottom off but i add capful of white vinegar in the clean cycle or with my clothes. I wash the barrel
When I try to remove that 10mm center bolt, the entire tub rotates freely and I have no resistance to push against. How did yours com off so easily without the tub rotating? Is there a brake setting on the washer?
I just cleaned mine out. This only gets about 10% of gross mold stuff, you must take the drum out to see the other 90% and the total disgusting nature of the the samsung beast. It only takes another 15 minutes to disassemble, but a while to clean it to the bare bones. This is a quick maintenance though to at least get some of it.
I have put that bolt part way in and pulled. will not come out, just pulled the bolt out. Went in a little more and same thing. Ive tried to pry the thing from every angle and every tool I have and it it NOT coming out. I think its rusted to the shaft. guess I put up with the smell.
I did exactly what you said and still have the issue. I am thinking Is the clunk in between the aluminum agitator and the plastic attachment. 😭 I self cleaned and drop some bleach. Next wash will be heavy duty with bleach.
My pulsator is significantly stuck to the drive shaft!!! Can I use WD-40 or olive oil or similar to get it loose? I've tapped and pried... Obviously, I don't want to introduce clothes staining, but cannot get it out (without damaging the pulsator, I fear).
I’ve got a LG top loader and have had 2 massive dogs for years. I feel this thing just doesn’t wash well at all but outside of self cleaning etc I’ve never taken it apart. I’m worried now under the agitator is probably clogged with fur and disgusting mild. It drains with no issues and no error messages but i wonder if the net effect of the dirt is just the machine not cleaning… hmmmm

Man I have tried all the tips and tricks to try and get the agitator plate off my machine and it just wont budge! I have tried prying it off...and it just wont come! Any advice?!?
Are you sure this bolt has reverse threads? This would be the reason I can not get the bolt out. Seems like everyone else is saying the opposite. They are saying normal threads, Counter clockwise to loosen. Thoughts anyone? Anyone?
on my Samsung activewash vrt my bolt is NOT reverse thread. I’ve got it removed. I had to hold the drum in place to get the bolt loose. Once I got the bolt out, the agitator isn’t budging. I tried the tip of putting the bolt Ina couple threads and pulling it and also tried some light prying and the agitator isn’t coming out. I’m afraid to use too much muscle and prying and break something off
This is a DIY for all levels of knowledge. Lucky you have obviously had to take an appliance apart. Always has to be a negative person on every thread.
Hey I know this is an older video but maybe you’ll see this…. My center agitator is plastic and every time I try to turn the bolt the whole inside moves around with me. My model isn’t the steam one but otherwise looks just the same. Any tips? Thank you
On the model I have, the agitator has threads that the bolt screws into pretty freely, I think maybe you might have some corrosion in the threads portion of your agitator which is preventing you from cleanly threading the bolt, either that or the bolt is crossthreaded perhaps.. I'd say to unthread the bolt and try to thread it by hand while holding the agitator in place if that doesn't work, something is wrong with the bolt or the agitator.
@@zerializing thank you! I was able to finally get it stable enough to turn. Appreciate the quick response and the video made me confident enough to do it myself.
@@bryanvasquez7971 not particularly.. It's excessive water, I'd check that the washer is level, the drain hose isn't kinked or clogged and that the drain pump is working effectively.. I have replaced this washer dryer set with a different make and model but before that, the drain pump impellar broke off in the pump.
Much like your car there's a little book in there that's called the instructions, suggest reading them and it tells you all about cleaning your Samsung washer, there is a cleaning cycle that it has to go through every 20 washes and you can run bleach in there during this time, just saying.....
Cool, where is the setting in the instuction book that removes water that stands under the pulsator? Much like a car that is subject to recalls and technical service bulletins, the engineers can oft overlook certain things or design within what they deem to be 'acceptable'. While I do run the 'cleaning' cycle, it is not enough to keep up with the prolonged use and design flaws inherant of this unit and similar units. This post is meant to be supplemental to a very common report if you look into it. While I appreciate your feedback, I'd also challenge you that if you have this same unit, check under the pulsator and post a video comparing the condition within the same period of ownership. Which for me is now nearing 3-4 years.
I have the same if not similar model of washer machine and honestly the manual was trash, it was not helpful at all. Heading: Cleaning the interior Description: Clean the interior of your washer periodically to remove any dirt, soil, odor, mold, mildew, or bacterial residue that may remain in your washer as a result of washing clothes. Failure to follow these instructions may result in unpleasant conditions, including odors and/or permanent stains in your washer or laundry. Hard water deposits may be removed as needed. Use cleaners labeled “Washer safe”. Ummmm, it doesn’t say know HOW or WHERE to clean out the mold and such. My spouse and I took the whole drum out of the machine after watching a few videos of how to clean the machine. We cleaned off the gunk and even after, still, there was residue found on our clothes. I’ve resorted to adding vinegar to the loads to combat the mildew smell but so far no luck on the issue of gunk found on our clothes.
You got it. Poorly designed machine. Clean cycle does not get the bulk of the mold out of this thing. And really, who wants to be pulling the drum out of it as regular maintenance?
When the manual tells you to "Clean the magic filter" and mine doesn't have one... That doesn't help. The next issue, it ours has yet to complete a cleaning cycle without error near the end... even after manually cleaning it.
I don't trust this cleaning. There has to be more. I have dogs in the country & zero hair in mine. Where is the hair? My front loader has a filter and it's always full of crap!

Man I have tried all the tips and tricks to try and get the agitator plate off my machine and it just wont budge! I have tried prying it off...and it just wont come! Any advice?!?
You did what I did at 6:30?
It's reserved thread. Set your electric screw driver as if you were tightening a bolt. Or turn it clockwise if you are manually doing it.
I'm with you, mine doesn't come out that way either
I’m afraid to use too much muscle and prying and break something off
What is a little cap called over the agitator
Samsung lists it as the pulsator cap.
Can’t seem to lift it even with the bolt half way in 😢
Good video but just 2 easy steps dragged over 13 minutes
My drum spins when trying to get the bolt out. Any tips?

It is not reverse thread. Just hold the drum with one hand while you turn the bolt counterclockwise with the other hand.
Thank you
I am a 67year old woman who find it hard to follow and clean my lint trap on my Samsung top loader washing machine don't even know where it is 😢
Help
Will try this today
is it normal, the water stuck inside?
@@bryanvasquez7971 not particularly.. It's excessive water, I'd check that the washer is level, the drain hose isn't kinked or clogged and that the drain pump is working effectively.. I have replaced this washer dryer set with a different make and model but before that, the drain pump impellar broke off in the pump.
It's different to turn the screw. I failed.
Thanks it worked!
After taking the screw out I couldn’t get the lid off
Much like your car there's a little book in there that's called the instructions, suggest reading them and it tells you all about cleaning your Samsung washer, there is a cleaning cycle that it has to go through every 20 washes and you can run bleach in there during this time, just saying.....
Heading: Cleaning the interior
Description: Clean the interior of your washer periodically to remove any dirt, soil, odor, mold, mildew, or bacterial residue that may remain in your washer as a result of washing clothes.
The manual doesn’t help at all
My husband and I did this today. Omg!!! So disgusting. Wish there was a way to clean between the plastic and metal agitators.
I want to do this but I can't reach the bottom I'm 5'0" 😅
Help
I don't spin my washer please
It's a dame lay it don't just come off tried your way
Don’t use liquid fabric softener it doesn’t break down and will build & cake up under the agitator..use sheets in the dryer instead …Trust Me
Good video.
Not a very good design.
You're not wrong 😂
Didn’t know this… had it for 7 years… wish me luck 😷 🤢
You just talked a lot just show us how to clean the machine
I don't trust this cleaning. There has to be more. I have dogs in the country & zero hair in mine. Where is the hair? My front loader has a filter and it's always full of crap!
Do you know how to turn off that annoying ice cream music😂😂😂
Talking way too much..get to the info
Is it possible to still use the washing machine with a big hole in the plate? I left a knife in my pants and it broke it while it was cleaning
Technically speaking, I don't see why not. The agitator already has a bunch of holes in it lol.
My drum spins when trying to get the bolt out. Any tips?
I held it down while I worked on removing the bolt
