Hi Dr. Wright! Thanks for doing these videos for us and for your dedication to researching this disease! I am a newly diagnosed person with type 2 lipedema in my arms and legs. I am almost 58 and just had a hysterectomy in May with my ovaries removed. I am having hot flashes and more with my menopause and next week am meeting with my gynecologist to discuss going on some hormone replacement therapy. Quesiton, is there any data or any advice about hrt and lipedema? I saw one video of the lady who put estrogen cream and progesterone cream on the back of one of her thighs and her lipedema got worse on that leg where she rubbed in those creams. I am leaning towards asking for a low dose of testosterone to help with libido and hot flashes and just vaginal estrogen cream to help with vaginal dryness and atrophy. Any thoughts? If lipedema is estrogen influenced and gets worse at puberty, pregnancy, and menopause....would it be better or worse to take estrogen? Or better to take it with a patch on the back instead of a cream on the leg? Thanks for any advice you can give me!

      I meant I have stage 2 lipedema...not type 2.

The research is unclear on what effect hormones and HRT play in lipedema. Although you are not my patient and I recoomend you consult with your personal physician,. I counsel my patients to be cautious with HRT but it can be helpful for some. I always recommend unsing the lowest dose possible and following closely.
