  • Post-Stroke Rehabilitation or Post-CVA (Cerebral Vascular Accident )Rehabilitation
This film has been made to explain the various post-CVA rehabilitation therapy and activities to both patients and their families.
Post-CVA rehabilitation therapy in meant to stimulate recovery, to help the patient adapt to the sometimes inevitable sequelae or lasting effects, and to foresee complications.
An entire team of healthcare professionals work with the patient: doctor, nurse and nurse’s aide, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech-language pathologist, neuropsychologist, social worker, dietician and a physical education teacher.
Although this film presents a specific patient, each case is different.
A multidisciplinary team defines the stroke rehabilitation programme’s goals in the first week following the patient’s arrival.

I had a stroke in September 2021. I'm 62 years old.. The stroke affected mobility (50%) in my left leg and weakness in my left arm as well as tingling and numbness in my face and hands. I tried hard, I began walking 1km - 2km - 5km - 10km per day. Today (20/12/21) I walked 6km and cycled 20km. Get up, get moving. It works.

My mother had a stroke the 13 September 2022, she spent a whole month in the hospital they did no therapy for her as they complained about her dead weight in the left side of her body. She was speaking clearly and hearing very well a week afterwards by the 13 October she had all her mind back. She stopped having weird dreams and was still having her brain telling her to move her leg and left arm today she can stand up but cannot walk. She cannot use her left arm still. Doctor told her to stop the therapy of moving her arms and legs as they where swelling in the leg why I don't know. However I am concerned of irregular use of her leg and arm. She is 79. She eating going to the toilet as she had issues with this and even swallowing her meals. But now she can eat and go to the toilet ok

I am not a medical doctor but I think this is a question you may have to ask your team of doctors, I myself had dvt and was placed on blood thinners but the unfortunate thing was that I wasn't told how long I would be on the blood thinner,Xarelto precisely and I took the medication for about 8 months and stopped since I couldn't afford it anymore and the result was devastating as I am now suffering from stroke and another unfortunate thing I am still placed on the same blood thinners so I would advise you talk to your team of doctors before stopping any medications for any reason
