I just took a girl out of that V shape the other day. She is in her 20s, I'm old enough to be her Hmm Hmmm. I was like "ahhh don't you wanna up dat that shape?" She was super happy when I finished.
is why for years i cut my own hair - yesterday after 20 years I decided to get a long bob cut and decided to go to the hairdresser and again I had to show them picture after picture- classic bob no wired cuts thank you - took a while but we got the results we wanted :)
This is exactly what I want. I have very thick, wavy and frizzy hair and I love my hair straight so I have been getting layers and v-cuts for a while, but found that it made my natural hair unwearable. Sometimes I don't have the time to straighten my hair and the layers add so much extra volume and craziness. I really want to try this because it is mostly one length, but has the shorter pieces in the front. That is the exact front look that I love. This haircut is beautiful. I took screenshots of the front and back (lol the back was hard because you never stopped moving the hair) and hopefully the hairdresser tomorrow can replicate it. I actually made the appointment because I tried cutting my own hair and now it is a mess so I probably won't have this exact cut, but I want her to keep this in mind as a goal.
Update: Got my haircut and she did such an amazing job. I brought 2 screenshots printed on a piece of paper of this haircut front and back and she nailed it! Find yourself a hairdresser who pays attention to the little details!
Cant thank you enough for these videos. I’m about to graduate cosmetology school and I’ve learned more from your videos than i have my entire time in school. Also thank you for explaining precisely WHEN and WHY we use elevation and overdirection! For personal reference: face framing starts at 1:32 !
Just want to say thank you, my wife asked me to cut her hair and she says I did a very good job, but I just followed this video (never cut her hair before) thank you!!!!
Me too!!!! Each time i try to explain what i want i end up with many short layers that take from the density of my fine hair! And it is a struggle to grow it back. Why dont they get it!
Thank you! I watched this last night and decided to try it this morning after my shower and it worked!! I love it! I haven't had my haircut professionally for about 8 years. I'm a natural blonde (although time is catching up to me and its more like a 'dirty blonde' as the called it back in the day) it's to my waist in the back, on a deep angle to a point in the middle, I guess you would call it... and the face framing I've been cutting with the scissors 1/2 open and sliding it down to get the angle, but never really liked it... when I curled it, it hid the mistakes pretty good, lol. I cut my bangs where I pull it to just the top of the tip of my nose and cut, it falls on an angle, which I like. I just got so tired of getting so much chopped off or it all looked choppy and I had to tied it up. My hair is very straight.... so maybe that was hard to cut, I dunno. Anyhoot, try this if you want, just take a tiny bit and see how it looks. You can always cut more, but ya can't cut less. Just sayin! Have a great day and stay healthy and take your vitamin D! Jan 25, 2022
Hi! I agree on vit d and I catch your drift… however I don’t know the correlation with 1/25/12… can you try to specify? I can try to read in between the lines ;)
I really want Matt to break down the anatomy of the head shape because the way he describes it and the way my cosmetology book describes it. Two different ways for sure.
Such a simple pretty cut and yet every stylist I go to still can never get it right! my hair is officially ruined from thinning shears. They love to use those! Next time I am going to take this video, thankyou.
This is what I wanted but for some reason my hairstylist cut it short in the back length and longer in the front? I'm fixing it when it grows out more.
Im a beginner in hairstyling and I find it challenging to cut blunt without using a comb or fingers as a guide to ensure a straight edge. Can you show a tutorial using a comb for blunt cuts?
Love this cut … it’s exactly what I’m after. No salons around where I live actually do as I show them. I’m such a nervous person when getting my hair cut anyway 😬 do you think I can create this look myself?
Could you please demo this with a slightly rounded baseline and an asymmetrical parting? Would also be interesting to see how it looks if you continue with the technique you used in the front all the way to the back.
So I was told in beauty school that if you have your client keep her head tilted forward for the whole back part of the cut (when cutting square) the shape of her head will cause the shape to round when she lifts her head naturally. True or false?
Beverly Tenhagen in this case it doesn't becasue he pulled everything to the back which technically makes the front longer. Typically you would have the clients head up straight while you cut the sides using your guide from the back. If you then pull all the hair behind the shoulders it will look rounded.
I love how you cut a blunt line without tension but as a new (junior) stylist I think I'll struggle justifying cutting hair like this to my boss until after I come back from some courses she's sending me on :/
I think this is the haircut I have been wanting but instead of straight line, I want a u-shape. Can you make a video on how to cut your own hair in a u-shape?
Burcu E this cut is actually impossible to do on yourself because of over direction. If you could contort your arms completely backwards then you could but just show this video to your stylist. I do this cut all the time on my clients.
I want to go to my stylist and tell them I want this but how would I ask for this cut? I mean what is the cut called? How would I explain it to her? I love this cut. My hair is a little bit shorter than hers though. I used to get layers but it didn't grow right so I made it all one length even the face but after I saw hers I want mine like that. Beautiful.
iluvcolin&ewan tell your stylist that you want a one length long haircut with long facial framing. Tell them to cut it blunt and only layer the front not the back. Hope this helps 👍🏻 or buy a ticket to Washington state and I’ll do this cut for you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀😀 (I’m a hairstylist who loves to do long haircuts))
Hi Matt... My client requested me a few layers at the botton, I did but the end result was so choppy, I tried again and again to conect it but it was imposible, her hair is too straight. I am thinking now maybe she wanted this haircut and I did'nt figured it out at the consultation. Can you please make a video for layers at the botton with too straight hair. Thanks.
I love face framing layers, this haircut coz you get layers in the front plus length is not lost as you mentioned!😍 i cut face framing layers at home by just watching a tutorial!
You explained this video so well thank you for creating it 👍you are awesome and I think you help a lot of people to be better with their own hair LOL 👍👍
"She doesn't want to lose a lot of length" so I'm gonna cut 5 inches off!..at least it turned out GORGEOUS and I really like this guys channel. It's very helpful.
This is exactly what i wanted my whole life and stylist always give me a shaggy or vshape cut! Thanks for making this video

That's my favourite cut!! I'm a hairdresser too 🤗. And it's so beautiful.
Julee Ann Garcia right 😂👍🏽😩what is happening in the world 😭😭😭

Omg me too.And they always try to convince me that the v shape is better for my hair because it's very fine and at the end it's way worse😔😠

Fantastic tutorial for all of us quarantined at home "attempting" to cut hair! This guy is fantastic!
I love it. I just blunt cut my hair removing 6". Now I am going to use your technique to cut the face frame.
Exactly what i like but stylists get it wrong. I will be bringing this video with me.
De's Edit so true
It's a shame I am retired I can cut any long hair style cut off when done it look longer why can't these hair stylist want 2 learn

Great job done and without making the hair too short still long some hairdressers are cut happy.!

This cut is perfect! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Can you make another video with this cut? But slower? Thank you!!!!
Wow 😯 Looks sooo beautiful 💇♀️
Best tutorial I’ve seen..and I’ve seen LOTS!!
I love this cut. I'm going to grow out my layers and try to achieve this look. Matt should I trim my bottom layer regularly?
Such a simple pretty cut and yet every stylist I go to still can never get it right! my hair is officially ruined from thinning shears. They love to use those! Next time I am going to take this video, thankyou.
Man, I watched like 8 tutorials on Face Framing Layers, and I wish I saw this first
This is what I wanted but for some reason my hairstylist cut it short in the back length and longer in the front? I'm fixing it when it grows out more.

Can u come to my house and give me this hair cut 🤣🤣🤣
It's exactly what I want and no one ever does it right!
This is exactly how I want my next haircut to be like after quarantine !!!!!
same
Could you please demo this with a slightly rounded baseline and an asymmetrical parting? Would also be interesting to see how it looks if you continue with the technique you used in the front all the way to the back.
Bringing all the hair behind, won't create longer hair in the front?
It may look easy but my experience is that this cut needs experienced hands!! Bravo, well done!
such a good cut
I love watching this guy, he is simply the best, very hands on. Would love having him home :)
Love this, thanks for sharing this!!!! Made face framing so much easier to do!
If you overdirect everything to the back, I'm surprised it's not slightly A-line.
Beautiful!! I went to the salon with beautiful long hair asked for something like that but nope, no one knows how to cut now says.
Great to see a hairdresser that doesn’t thin out the hair
Very nice haircut! How far do you pull to the diagonal angle?
Could you make an updated video on how to blow dry with a round brush on different lengths on hair?
What's more beautiful guys, layered haircut or this one? I can't decide...
Watching this again 10/2022, I guess Matt was ahead of his time, this is like the " butterfly cut "
So I was told in beauty school that if you have your client keep her head tilted forward for the whole back part of the cut (when cutting square) the shape of her head will cause the shape to round when she lifts her head naturally. True or false?

He over direct the hair so nope! If u cut from side u tilt head to shoulder which over corrects as well..
I didn't understand can you please tell me which hair spray you using?? Please reply me 🙏

Say u want a blunt cut, with face frame shortest layer just below shoulders..
Love it!
The first piece you cut to fram the face was that your guideline?
Would you be able to cut this into a shorter bob haircut? I like the face framing layers alot.
This is what I need love your haircuts 💇 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Do you cut everything when shes looking down??

This is exactly what I've been asking for. But...I cut too much off the temple area....I'm kinda bummed
Add a few pieces until it grows back
