I'm a beginner to Cricut and have had an awful time sticking my designs to my wood projects. Your video saved my sanity and kept me from throwing my projects across the room. Lol. Thank you so much!
Oh m God 😳 you are so awesome. I watched around of 15 videos looking for this exact information and they said nothing to me. But you as an angel just came and give the tip in 3 min or less. THANK-YOU
Wow...THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was so frustrated with not being able to get the vinyl to stick. I eventually figured that it was the oils in the stain so I applied alcohol to the surface and that still didn't work. So again, thanks, gotta run out and get some polyacrylic!
Love the short, to-the-point video but I agree with others you should respond to commenter question especially since you are new and trying to build subscribership. Suggestion for future videos: show all products used on the project and or list/link the products in the description.
I'm new at making signs, but I've done woodwork and worked with stain and polyurethane many times. I was told to stick on the letters before sealing them. I didn't agree with what I was told because I know there's oil in so many wood stains. Thanks for making & sharing this quick video.
I was having the same problem and found out that I overstained my wood leaving a tacky residue on the top layer. The way to fix this is get some mineral spirits and a 220 grit sanding black and scrub off the top layer until the stain is no longer tacky. I wanted to try the seal first but didn't want to chance ruining my project. But I'm definitely glad I found this will work!
If you think you put too much and it's still drying, use painters tape to "peel" off the top layer so you don't have to sand as much later. Saves a bit of time in any case where you add to much or even see some orange peel
I'm building an outdoor table and want to decorate it with stickers. Per your tip, I will paint a layer of poly before I put the stickers in place. I want to seal the entire table after I apply the stickers. Should I seal the table and stickers with a water-based poly or is there another product I should use?
I used Mod Podge over my final design with vinyl. It worked great and sealed everything in place! However, I would have liked to have known to put the poly down first!
Good video! Would you recommend going over the vinyl decal with finish (e.g. polycrylic) to protect it? I'm worried about it peeling or bubbling over time.
If you have both a painted and varnished sections on a piece, would you need to seal the painted section of the wood as well before applying the permanent vinyl? Thanks
hi I have a wood pallet that I treated with the polycrylic, I can't get the self adhesive vinyl to stick to it. can I use the easy press over the transfer tape on the wood pallet to see if this helps stick the vinyl? also if once the vinyl is sticking to the wood pallet do you recommend giving it another coat of the polycrylic?
Hi I recently had a wall sign made and some of the letters are coming off. ( I know the person who made this sign used vinyl and she "sprayed it"?) what can I do to fix it ? Would this work? Thanks
I inherited some very cool vinyl-lettered wooden signs from a school fundraiser. However, there's a LOT of lettering, and in just a couple spots I can see the vinyl already lifting up a tad. What would you recommend to seal it? Is there some kind of recommended lacquer I could paint evenly over everything to get it to stay? I don't mind if the signs get shiny.
I want to try this but I wonder if you could tell me how long it will last before peeling off? I’m thinking of doing this instead of hand painting stencils on my wood projects. I suppose you could do a top coat of poly overtop of the vinyl to keep it from peeling. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I've understood that putting it on afterwards can yellow the vinyl if white. I understand using outdoor vinyl is the best to use if problem the items outdoors but I'm not really sure what qualifies as outdoor. I thought just permanent vinyl was but I guess there's something else that's more durable for outdoors.
Hi! I stained some wood, did 1 coat of polycrylic and waited 24 hours to apply vinyl. As I peeled up the transfer tape, some of the polycrylic came with it. How can I keep this from happening again?
Same thing happened to me..on my next project I try to put it on after..but my letters still want to lift..a friend told me to try a heat gun over it ..I think it works
Does it make any difference if using just a simple craft varnish vs POLYCRYLIC? this happened to me: I had a poplar board that seems like I sanded way too much that the surface was soooooo smooth, applied my stain (which by the way didn't stained that much but oh well) , then I applied two coats of craft varnish then I applied my vinyl 651, then I applied the craft varnish again "to seal the edges" ,I sanded it lightly and then applied my acrylic paint , when peeling it came almost all the paint off with my vinyl :(, question is.... Does it need to be POLYCRYLIC and not a craft varnish? Should I have used the 631, since the surface was pretty smooth? Did I need to be even rougher sanding on top of my stencil? I would really really appreciate somebody help meeeee sorry for being so meticulous with my question :( TIA
So… yes, this works… HOWEVER, after some time, they will still peel off. I’ve found that if I combine this process with using HTV instead of permanent, and then apply a touch of heat after I’ve applied it, it stays a LOT longer, especially for projects that ensure the outdoor weather.
I have tried this exact matte minwax polycrylic product, however it peels up off of the stained wood with the transfer tape, meaning the vinyl still won't stick. Anyone else having this issue or now how to solve it?
Seal your wood before applying vinyl so you don't run into issues keeping it on/applying it. That was the point of the video. Rewatch for comprehension

I spent all night weeding out an intricate design and had to throw the whole thing away!!! WIsh I had seen this first
I hope all your videos are like this,,, factual to the point and no fluff,,,, love love you did it all in under 3 mins! Thank you

Thank you so much for making a quick and straight forward video to help fix this issue!! Much appreciated! Xo
Thank you for this knowledge! You’ve saved me from having unsuccessful projects.
Thank you 🙏🏻 I was wondering if I should seal it before or after and you answered my question!

Great job! I new to Cricut-ing and primary am focusing on wooden projects. You have THE best tip ever! Thanks so much! 🙏 Be well….
This would’ve been great to watch before I applied my label. How can I keep it from lifting now?
I use mod podge to keep my designs down
Google on why my vinyl wont stick to wood...your video came up...thank you so much for making this video...makes sense now...tfs
Thank you so much for sharing this great information!
I didn't seal my blocks before putting my removable vinyl. Can I seal it now or would you just leave it? It's sticking with no problem....😬

What type of vinyl should be use on wood? Can polyacrylic be applied for both and outside decor?

Oh my gosh, this totally fixed my problem thank you so much
Thank you; this technique was a life savor. Cannot thank you enough!
I’m needing vinyl to stick to stained wood wedding gust book sign.
Will a paint marker work over poly?
Any suggestions for making my husband a wood cutting board that he can continually use n wash even with the vinyl design I want to put on it?
Quick ?. Did you sand the poly lightly after applying it? Or left as is and just applied your vinyl??
What type of Minwax polycrylic do you use? Gloss? Semi gloss? Matte? Thanks!
Adrianne Moore I need to know too
She said it in the video.....
@@Midgetfingerz When did she say it? I was wondering also.
She says at :58 that it has a matte finish, so assuming it's the matte. Wish she had shown the can itself.
Which is better satin, gloss, semi gloss or flat?
Is it ok to put laminated vinyl in wood floor that has been stained 2 days ago?
Hi I recently had a wall sign made and some of the letters are coming off. ( I know the person who made this sign used vinyl and she "sprayed it"?) what can I do to fix it ? Would this work? Thanks
Perfect! You’re awesome! Just what I needed! Thank you!
Just wondering after you applied the decal can you put another coat on top to seal the decal if it’s gonna be something that is outside?
This is a great tip! Love your channel!
Thank you sooo much Samantha!
That's awesome saved my project. thanks girl. New sub! Can't wait to see more.

Have you ever tried to use wall decals on painted wood and then seal with poly acrylic?
Michelle this my question now,lol by any chance did those wall decals apply to a painted surface
I appreciate the great video you did. Thank you
Good video, speaker easy to understand, i.e voice without language dialect, and direct to the project.
Thank for this great information!
Do you seal the vinyl after applying it
I wanna know that too
Exactly what kind of polycrylic are you using?
How do you get the vinyl to stay without peeling up the sealer!? Every-time I seal a wooden sign and try to apply a decal, the sealer peels up!!!
Thanks for the info. Do you think water based poly will stick durably on a oil based stain?

What if it's sanded wood? Will it stick without a sealant?
Great job on your video! Best of luck with your new channel!
Do you put a coat on afterwards
Straight to the point!. Thx!.
Can I buy vinyl printing paper for my laser jet printer?
Karen Melissa yes amazing
Will the same work with regular polyurethane?
Thanks!! This helps so much!
Can you paint over the vinyl with clear coat to seal in the design?
Thank you ... this was very informative .... you made my life so much easier....😁
Is the polycrylic gloss or satin?
do I need to seal after putting the vinyl if its going to be outside in the elements?
Do you have to stain wood 1st, or is it okay to just apply the 1 coat of the polycrylic?
You don't have to stain the wood if it isn't the look you are going for. I have done just a coat of poly on unstained wood and it was just fine, too.
Did you lightly sand it after it dried? Would that effect the vinyl sticking?
Can I use the same sealer for outdoor?
Does it make any difference if using just a simple craft varnish vs POLYCRYLIC?

Thanks for the tip.
Super tip and you have a subscriber in me as well. Very well done video Cat.
Can you epoxy over poly acrylic?
I just subscribed but where did you go?
thanks for
this tip sooooo needed it lol
Very useful..thank you. Liked and subscribed.x
Thank you!!!!! I tried to mod podge first and it still didn’t work.
Deanna Gallagher same here , so glad I found this video
did you use the cricut explore or a silhouette machine?
Did you use satin? Matte? Gloss?
she stated matte in the video. 0:58
Is it polyurethane like you said or polycrylic like the can says...
Oh I only heard her say polycrylic. Not sure if the other can be used.
How long do you wait after you use polyurethane to put on vinyl?
She said she waits 20 minutes but the product recommends waiting two hours to dry.

Helpful. Thank you
what type of vinyl?
🔥🔥🔥
Thank you SO MUCH
Thx for that advice
was the wood sanded flat or did it get grooves
Projects should be smooth when applying vinyl.
Semi gloss Matt or gloss
Helped me, thx
AWESOME!
Fabulous
Mahalo for the info 🤙🏼
What if wood is grainy, bumpy like
Didnt work for me 😭😭😭
Me either
Was the wood sanded smooth? What didn't work? I'm trying to learn myself. Would like the input.
I have tried this exact matte minwax polycrylic product, however it peels up off of the stained wood with the transfer tape, meaning the vinyl still won't stick. Anyone else having this issue or now how to solve it?
Jessica Gorey did you sand the wood first? Then seal?
Does not work! Don’t waste your time
Why do you say it does not work? I don't see why it wouldn't. As long as the wood is sanded smooth it should.
damn she cute

But poly comes in semi, glossy or Matt so which one.
