I’ve had 3 different RM including the 5”, 7”, and the overdrive 7”. The magnetic mounts suck and the units constantly fall off the dash during rough roads conditions. I’ve had two windshield suction mounts break due to the gps units being to heavy. And they constantly freeze up and glitch.

The randmcnally tnd 730 and 720 is all ive ever used. Just recently bought the dezl 780. No EXACTLY what your talking about on the con side. The 730 had its act together.... running both gpses side by side pain in the but..... until im as comfortable with the 730 before solely relying on the dezl 780. But it is a good unit. You are correct in your review. The on the fly changes is easy on the 730 but had to wait to stop to find basic information on the dezl 780. Ive found the easiest way to enter a address in is using goole maps and share it to you dezl. Boom....done. quicker than typing in and searching on rhe 780. But thats me...still learning....only one day so far......lol
It was a nice review you're showing the little buttons on doing everything but all the reasons reviews on here that other people do as well they don't actually drive with it so you can see the performance of it
i have the 570 dezl its the best in my option. I drive LTL so it takes me to the back of plazas sometimes. I have had mine for 6 years now and works great.
Can you get it to show RV parks? Someone once said that this is better than the Garmin RV because it can offer better campground locations and does better at calculating routes with propane restrictions.
aycc-nbh72 fantastic question that I don’t have the answer for, I’m sorry. If you buy it at a Loves truck stop, you can use it for up to 30 days. If it doesn’t offer the things you want, they’ll allow you to return it no questions asked
I have a Garmin Dezl 770 and that actually did have the voice command hands-free feature for phones. This was removed from the 780, I believe because it wasn't compatible with their Android OS base. It's still present in the 580 unit -- you say "Voice command" then "phone" and then it will give you options such as history, dial number etc.
How did you get the Arrival Time to display? I just bought one and it does not have that. Has Time Direction Elevation... but not the others yours had. Did it come on when you updated it?
I honestly don’t remember. It’s been almost a year and a half since I used it. My buddy Bigginz Trucking did a review video of it too...maybe his video shows it??
Been using one 5k miles a week last two years. Love the “what’s coming up” screen. Real helpful. Like any GPS it ain’t perfect. Fueling one block of rte 80 it wanted us to go away from 80 on a rural road. No idea why it would do this ? It also is somewhat worthless in NYC. It’s all over the place. Wants us to exit 278 on random exits for no good reason. Love it other than that.
I just recently purchased the 780.. it works pretty good.. accurate map, alerts are really helpful like speed limit change, curves, speed camera etc.. my only complaint is, it doesnt alert me when im near weigh stations.. can it be fixed in the settings?
I loved my RM740 but the software kept locking up on me. It got to the point where I couldn't get it to reboot or do anything. And being after the warranty period I just threw it (and $400 or so bucks) away. I'm going to try the Garmin 780 and see what happens. Wish me luck!!!
Thanks for watching. I use the Rand McNally 740 now but the mounts are the same. I mount them at the bottom of my windshield where the unit is lightly resting on the dash to prevent that. I've been using it for 7 months now and the suction cup has only come off once. All I had to do was wet it and stick it back up and it's been fine
I have one and I set it just high enough above the dashboard that I can put a folded washcloth between it and the dashboard. This absorbs the vibration and shock from bum. It takes some tinkering to get it just right.
Nice video. Got a question...how to not let it use FOURSQUARE??? I have a new 780lmt-s and can't use till I can get it to use a next search engine and not FOURSQUARE???

@@duckmanemt I think you'll like it. Keep in mind NONE of them are perfect. Garmin has its quirks and so does the 740 but the 740 is the best overall in my opinion. Just verify your routes and don't blindly follow what it says (assuming you're a semi driver)
@@RushinTruckin I have always been a Garmin person due to where I used to live in FL. Did a lot of fishing and Garmin had the best equipment for charting. No alert for lane departure. It does have a speed warning that's set by the user (a certain speed or a certain amount over the speed limit) but it had nothing to do with curves, just the actual speed
Got 1.5yr out of it. Couldn’t use all the features with the app. It was hit or miss with my latest iPhone with Bluetooth connection. Updates take forever. Most recent update prompts you that it will delete older files to install the map and software updates. Thing is half way through it says download fail! Now I have a gps that can not find address and recalculated constantly without ever finalizing a route. Tried doing a factory reset and to reinstall update to no avail. Now I’m out a GPS and have to spend $400+ to buy a new one unexpectedly. Hated it
As far as that Country Road bug... I'm sure it will do it again. There are routes that the Rand takes me down Country roads every time! I have called in to tell them but you know Rand... they RARELY come out with updates. Overall, I would suggest new drivers to use Garmin, but just have common sense when following the routing to a T. Get a map book and check your route before departing.
Well...you can out your dimensions and weight in and it'll give you 2 options. If you know a different route you want to take then it will allow you to drag the route onto the road you want. Beyond that, I'm not sure
Thanks brotha, I do alot of oversize loads, this unit seems to better then the RM 740, I've had so many problems with it taking to roads that are closed etc.
Anytime. Keep in mind, this unit may do the same with the closed roads. They aren't updated often enough to show construction (if that's the kind of closed road you're talking about). For that, you're gunna have to cross reference your route with either Google maps or Waze cuz they're as close to real time as you can get
Joe mores in theory, yes, but in reality, no. No trucker gps is flawless so that’s why proper trip planning is essential using this or one like it, google maps, and your truck atlas. It will, however, put up a warning if you do end up on a restricted road but I’ve had it (as well as my daily use gps the Rand McNally 740) route me on restricted roads or over weight restricted bridges before
That's crazy... I once heard the Japanese owned 80% of Texas... But lost it after their financial crisis. But I've looked that up and couldn't find any truth to it.
+buffalo bill I agree, it's a good unit. I have review videos of a couple Rand Mcnallys coming very soon. Experiencing both platforms, I prefer RM overall.
Sir thank you so much for reply to me I just bought it new one last week but I have to update it I really don’t know how to do it if you can help me plz it’s my first time use it
Imamuddin Sikandari been a long time since I’ve used it but I think all you need to do is connect it to WiFi then go to settings and system update. If you don’t have WiFi then turn on your phones hotspot and connect it that way
I just ordered this with in an hour before seeing this. It’s a hard choice buying these things because a lot of people give really negative reviews and the other half say their good so I bought it anyway, just hope it help me because work it getting very hard recently by just using google maps
I traded that in and got the RM 8" tablet hahaha. Gunna trade this for the RM 740. Reviews on those are coming as well. I have 500 miles left. Getting my own truck this coming Friday the 14th!!! 😎
I have a problem. Navigator does not display true speed. When I drive at 60, it shows 57 miles. A month after the purchase everything worked fine. Who had a similar situation?
I've tried the Garmin 780, Rand McNally 8" Tablet, and the Rand McNally 740 and have settled on the RM 740. All of them have bugs but I like the 740 the best
Speed limits on both this unit and the RM are about 70% accurate. It's quite annoying actually. I don't rely on them at all! The unit I use on a daily basis is the RM 740 and I'm very happy with it. Yes, it has its quirks (it'll randomly crash but all you have to do is open the map back up and you're right back where you were), the wrong speed limits, and it will have me do u-turns even though I have them turned off in the settings (I just need to stay aware of that and avoid them myself) I REALLY wish Google, Garmin, Waze, and RM would get together and make a super navigation for truckers
I've also tried the Rand McNally 8" Tablet and RM 740. Truthfully, they all will do it. We, as truckers, need to have the common sense to read signs and know when it just doesn't feel right. Just the other day, my RM 740 tried having me turn on Main Street in the middle of this town. I rolled up to it slowly, took 1 look, and said there's NO FLIPPIN way I can make that turn!!! So I went past it and make 3 lefts to get into that road and all was good 😎😊👍🏻
Unfortunately, this happens time to time with all GPS units. 99% of the time, I can find it on Google maps then get the coordinates to the entrance then enter those coordinates into the GPS
Hi Scott. Curious. Who was your trainer? Have been talking to other new MTI drivers about good and bad trainers and was just curious. Are you regional or OTR? I'm opting for OTR... i'm a work-a-holic anyway.
Chris White was my trainer. He was excellent! I went OTR because I'm gunna be out 5+ weeks at a time. I live in central FL and have a 8.5 hr commute for true hometime so if I can be out 6 weeks then I get a week off.
Do you work on recaps so you can keep driving? Have been doing alot of research about HOS and working my clock to drive everyday. Glad you got a good trainer. I only hope that I do also... I have heard that I can request a particular trainer. That's pretty cool if it's true. You seeing any snow? LOL.
It was a special circumstance when I was with Chris in that his home situation required him to be home every weekend I was with him. Because of that, we got a 34 hr reset each week. I'm not sure what it's like running recaps. He explained it to me but I don't really learn something unless I DO it. With that said, the only way I know how to run at this point is hard...meaning 500+ mi per day. Doing that will most likely require a reset and I'm ok with that because after running that much, I'm ready for a break longer than 10 hrs. Yes, you can request a specific trainer. In fact, I hooked one of my subscribers up with Chris! They're hitting the road the 18th I think. I drove in a couple inches of snow and slush through Philly about a month ago but that was the only time so far. It'll come though! I'm not really looking forward to it but ya just gotta slow it down and if it gets too bad, with Millis, they let you shut down if you don't feel safe.
Cool... yea 500+ per day sounds good. Thanks for the heads up about feeling safe. I was going to ask the instructors about that exact thing. I was hoping that I wouldn't get penalized for stopping if the weather made me feel unsafe to drive. Great news. By the way are you familiar with a trainer named Duane?
Scott new subscriber here, I saw early you were from FL I’m also in FL and looking to come to Millis after I retire. Couple of questions, Does Millis have a rider policy? and being freight is limited for vans out of FL have they said how tough it is to get home time?
+HYOH 68 Thanks for the sub! Yes, my home is in southern Clermont. There are 3 options for hometime when coming out of Florida. 1) keep your personal vehicle at the Cartersville terminal and commute from there 2) keep your personal vehicle at the Albany terminal and come from there which is 4 hrs close OR 3) find a safe haven to park the rig at near your home. When you park the rig at any Millis terminal during hometime, it's considered safe and if anything would happen to it (batteries die, breaking and entering, etc) while you're away, Millis will cover it. If you choose to park it anywhere else during hometime (I.e. near your home) then the liability is on us unfortunately. We do have loads that go into Florida that you can be dispatched on to get you home but most likely they would have to dead head you up to Southern Georgia somewhere to get your next load (which is fine cuz we get paid for dead head as well as long as your dispatched).
It probably took you on that dirt road your first time out. I bet you didn't have correct city and state mine started out thinking I waz in Fl. and I'm in Clevelan. Most your reloads will be in the same State you delivered in😂
I believe so, yes, but I'm not an owner operator so I didn't dig into that feature. I do know you can input all fuel info such as price, location, tax included, etc. It can also be exported as a .csv file for reporting
It's what I've heard. I have no proof of it. My CDL school teacher told us that. I guess it's only $30 or do. I dunno cuz I never go that way around Chicago cuz I was told not to.
5 axle truck on the I-90 bridge in Chicago is $32.50 during peak times, and Off peak is $23.40 and it’s called the Skyway bridge. Not sure who told you the tolls are 4 figures but it must’ve been a trucker. Since they are usually just repeating shit that they have no actual first hand knowledge of.
I don't have that GPS anymore. I use the Rand McNally 740 which doesn't have that function. If I were you, I'd just call Garmin tech support cuz I don't work for them
Going to return my unit today and I just bought it yesterday, from pilot, its trash. After the updates it froze in a loop and did not want to reboot. It's way overpriced
I have the Garmin with the camera and disappointed at Garmin. I use my Google maps with this and see which one is BS. I did get for $294 with a discount through Garmin. One time on highway told me to get off exit then tells you to get back on highway. It does have its good points but disappointed. Camera is great, but you will have more problems.
All that and you did not put an address in I have one of these and cannot put a address in it don’t work it is the most complicated sat nav I have ever had
I’ve been driving 25 years + and been through and around Chicago so many times it’s impossible to put a number on it. And I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that there is no such bridge on I-90 in the Chicago area. There is a toll bridge on I-90 south of Chicago but it is nowhere close to 4 figures to crossover and I’m 99.9% sure that it’s not owned by the Japanese. I’m afraid you’ve been a victim of a truckers story. 🤣🤣🤣
I did like your video though. I’ve been using a Garmin 560 for 8-9 years and I’m thinking its time for an upgrade and that’s the unit I’m leaning towards. My company provides a Rand McNally TND 765 which also serves as our elog. And in my opinion is a POS I’m pretty sure TND=terrible navigation device. Anyway thanks for the video and safe travels. 👊🏻
RJD I appreciate that! My daily use gps is the RM 740. I’ve had pretty good luck with it so far (been a lil over a year). Whichever you choose, I suggest buying it at a Love’s because of their 30 day return/exchange policy at any of their locations

For that, you're gunna have to cross reference your route with either Google maps or Waze cuz they're as close to real time as you can get
Really great review!!!
Thank you!
Will this keep me off roads I shouldn't be on?
Joe mores in theory, yes, but in reality, no. No trucker gps is flawless so that’s why proper trip planning is essential using this or one like it, google maps, and your truck atlas.
It will, however, put up a warning if you do end up on a restricted road but I’ve had it (as well as my daily use gps the Rand McNally 740) route me on restricted roads or over weight restricted bridges before
@@RushinTruckin thanks for your feed back.
What bridge in America is owned by the Japanese? Never heard of that.
blogs.reuters.com/breakingviews/2015/11/16/new-chicago-skyway-owners-need-long-investing-view/
So I was told incorrect info...still not owned by America though
That's crazy... I once heard the Japanese owned 80% of Texas... But lost it after their financial crisis. But I've looked that up and couldn't find any truth to it.
Shi Sha Shu Bridge
Garmin is a pretty good gps. My brother drives a bus and still uses a Garmin truck gps.
+buffalo bill I agree, it's a good unit. I have review videos of a couple Rand Mcnallys coming very soon. Experiencing both platforms, I prefer RM overall.
What is different between 780 and 580 please?? If you explain me thanks
Imamuddin Sikandari just size. 580 is 5” diagonally and the 780 is 7” diagonally. I believe everything else is the same
Sir thank you so much for reply to me I just bought it new one last week but I have to update it I really don’t know how to do it if you can help me plz it’s my first time use it
Rushin' Truckin' sir thank you so much for reply me I bought on this week but I didn’t know to update it if can help me please
Keep me updated as to how you like it
So how you like it so far?
@@rotcataergeht don’t use it mate, google maps for the win.
Until you get ticketed for being on non truck roads, overweight, or have to back up miles around traffic cuz of a low bridge.
Does the GPS notify you when there is a upcoming road you can’t enter as a truck driver?
Yes
Rushin' Truckin' hey dude maybe u can help me, i have the 785 and it keeps saying searching for satellite
@@donsly375 have you done all the updates? If so, maybe you have a bad unit. Call their tech support
Rushin' Truckin' its busy updatin right now gonna check after
Rushin' Truckin' hey, just wanted to update u, it works!! Thanks
Cool you got your garmin . Did you finish up and get your own truck yet.
I traded that in and got the RM 8" tablet hahaha. Gunna trade this for the RM 740. Reviews on those are coming as well.
I have 500 miles left. Getting my own truck this coming Friday the 14th!!! 😎
@@RushinTruckin that's awesome cant wait to see what you get maybe a new one
Scott Rush congrats Scott!!
You have to set up smart notification from the app that you downloaded
I have a problem. Navigator does not display true speed. When I drive at 60, it shows 57 miles. A month after the purchase everything worked fine. Who had a similar situation?
Why does it keep shutting down?
Can this be used for bus driver's?
I don't see why not
It has a bus profile, it's visible in the video.
Blackdragon79 yes
RishinTruckin can you provide an update on this gps since you've used it for some time now? Pros, cons and it's precision please.
I traded this in for a Rand McNally 740 because I prefer the RM interface. This is still a good unit and I would recommend it.
No way! Rand mc nalley is like an android. Easy to use. Garmin on the other hand is too technical and it's slow
Are you still using this 780-??
Jared Dollen no, I use the Rand McNally 740 as my daily use
good video my friend I have a question the gps tells you if there is a scale forward?
Yes, it does. You can set the distance too up to 5 miles.
Scott Rush which one do you recommend buying?
I've tried the Garmin 780, Rand McNally 8" Tablet, and the Rand McNally 740 and have settled on the RM 740. All of them have bugs but I like the 740 the best
Scott Rush thank you very much I appreciate the time you take to answer
it would be good a video to make of this subject, gps comparisons
Does it tell you the MPH your current as your driving?
Yes, it does. It will glow red when you're over the shoes limit as well
Did you do a review on a headset I saw it in your intro? If yes which video?
Yes, I have recorded a review on the Plantronics Voyager 10 4 and will be posting it soon. I am also reviewing the Blue Parrot B450 😎
@@RushinTruckin thanks
I know this is a 3 month old video. Is it current on speed limits?
The RM is far from accurate which makes me concerned of other inaccuracies.
Speed limits on both this unit and the RM are about 70% accurate. It's quite annoying actually. I don't rely on them at all!
The unit I use on a daily basis is the RM 740 and I'm very happy with it. Yes, it has its quirks (it'll randomly crash but all you have to do is open the map back up and you're right back where you were), the wrong speed limits, and it will have me do u-turns even though I have them turned off in the settings (I just need to stay aware of that and avoid them myself)
I REALLY wish Google, Garmin, Waze, and RM would get together and make a super navigation for truckers
Looks great im going to invest in one of these very soon, but its abit of a worry that it tried taking you down that road.....
So I went past it and make 3 lefts to get into that road and all was good 😎😊👍🏻
I just bought one & my first delivery in colorado springs could not be found...so frustrated
Unfortunately, this happens time to time with all GPS units. 99% of the time, I can find it on Google maps then get the coordinates to the entrance then enter those coordinates into the GPS
Arlene hookup to wifi try updating your Garmin GPS that may be reason why you couldn't locate your drop address.
Hi Scott.
I don't know Duane
Very small World I'm also in Clermont😀 Do they have a rider policy? Thank you for the response be safe there.
Nice!
None of these GPS units are real accurate all have glitches . it work with iPhone also ?
Remember you by the GPS but it's factory system not the new update
Traffic in live?
ThePacokanada yeah
Great video I’m buy a garmin
I got the otr800 love it
i am, from chicago and that toll on I-90 coming from IN or going to cost 30$ u can go on I 80- 294 and go on I-90 that way u dont pay toll
I take 294 every time. I never go 90 unless I'm picking up or delivering in the city
You said ‘here’s on tree of paper!’ I laughed uncontrollably
whoops! HAHAHAHAHA
Good Review!
Thank you!
It probably took you on that dirt road your first time out. I bet you didn't have correct city and state mine started out thinking I waz in Fl. and I'm in Clevelan. Most your reloads will be in the same State you delivered in😂
Have a IFTA calculator?
I believe so, yes, but I'm not an owner operator so I didn't dig into that feature. I do know you can input all fuel info such as price, location, tax included, etc. It can also be exported as a .csv file for reporting
Rushin' Truckin' I bought myself the same gps dezl 780 and I do not have ifta
@@龙-g3q dunno what to tell ya @25:10 you can see this one does

david sutton works the same, just find it and click on it
Tell me more about this toll bridge owned by Japan that cost 4 figures?
It's what I've heard. I have no proof of it. My CDL school teacher told us that. I guess it's only $30 or do. I dunno cuz I never go that way around Chicago cuz I was told not to.
I think your referring to the skyway bridge, definitely not 4 figures.
Does It have satellite view? like if you wanna zoom in or see the entrance at a shipper
No
Yes Carson loop
5 axle truck on the I-90 bridge in Chicago is $32.50 during peak times, and Off peak is $23.40 and it’s called the Skyway bridge. Not sure who told you the tolls are 4 figures but it must’ve been a trucker. Since they are usually just repeating shit that they have no actual first hand knowledge of.
Kai Catori 🤣 yeah, I was told this in CDL school. I’ve since figured out that most truckers are full of $&@!
Do these units bring you to the loading docks?
They take you to the address or coordinates you enter...if that's to the docks, then yes.
But NEVER rely solely on these things!!! I use Google maps and common sense to supplement what these tell me
I can’t hear my phone calls come through on speaker... Help!!
Have you ever been able to? Your phone's connected via Bluetooth?
Rushin' Truckin' No, I just got it..
Rushin' Truckin' it’s connected, the speaker is real low... can you do a video talking on the gps speaker...
I don't have that GPS anymore. I use the Rand McNally 740 which doesn't have that function.
If I were you, I'd just call Garmin tech support cuz I don't work for them
Make sure the volume on your phone is turned all the way up as well
not badd their guy
Garmin is known as a GPS company for Trucks, cars, planes and boats. Rand McNally us no different they are known as exactly the same.
Going to return my unit today and I just bought it yesterday, from pilot, its trash. After the updates it froze in a loop and did not want to reboot. It's way overpriced
I use the Rand McNally 740 full time now and it does a great job for me
Thank you!! I'll be switching it out for one!! I really need one
Welcome! It DOES still have lil hiccups now and again but a quick restart has always cleared it up for me
Nope there was no bug out in that system it just that you did not update it
I downloaded all updates as soon as I turned it on
@@RushinTruckin but I thought you said you was not near a computer
I used the Hotspot on my phone

Nobody stopping you, but you. Get to it
I have the Garmin with the camera and disappointed at Garmin. I use my Google maps with this and see which one is BS. I did get for $294 with a discount through Garmin. One time on highway told me to get off exit then tells you to get back on highway. It does have its good points but disappointed. Camera is great, but you will have more problems.
Oh wow! They all have their quirks and bugs but I've never experienced something like that with RM. My daily use now is the RM 740 and I love it
All that and you did not put an address in I have one of these and cannot put a address in it don’t work it is the most complicated sat nav I have ever had
Where to > address > put address in > GO OR hit arrows to see multiple route suggestions
Rand mcnally 740, all day, everyday! Garmin looks good though!
RM 740 is what I use daily as well and I'm really happy with it
Wow 430$ for a fancy box with old google maps open-source software
Takes forever to update
I’ve been driving 25 years + and been through and around Chicago so many times it’s impossible to put a number on it. And I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that there is no such bridge on I-90 in the Chicago area. There is a toll bridge on I-90 south of Chicago but it is nowhere close to 4 figures to crossover and I’m 99.9% sure that it’s not owned by the Japanese. I’m afraid you’ve been a victim of a truckers story. 🤣🤣🤣
RJD 🤣🤣 so I’ve learned
I did like your video though. I’ve been using a Garmin 560 for 8-9 years and I’m thinking its time for an upgrade and that’s the unit I’m leaning towards. My company provides a Rand McNally TND 765 which also serves as our elog. And in my opinion is a POS I’m pretty sure TND=terrible navigation device. Anyway thanks for the video and safe travels. 👊🏻
RJD I appreciate that! My daily use gps is the RM 740. I’ve had pretty good luck with it so far (been a lil over a year). Whichever you choose, I suggest buying it at a Love’s because of their 30 day return/exchange policy at any of their locations
... I’ve got just ONE (“☝🏻”) comment to say about the GARMIN... :
“LOST SATELLITE CONNECTION❗️”
... sheesh!
Oh... that sucks
