    Solid review, I have had the same model for about a year now. You showed features that I never thought to use. It also has a "car" mode that I use when I'm on home time. Keep cranking them vids out, doing a damn good job.

    I just picked up this same model Garmin last week for an excellent price. Money well spent, user friendly, simple, alot of good features. Great video spot on. The dash cam included, excellent quality. I'm glad I finally bought this model, I also researched a couple before settling with this model.

      How is it doing so far? Any issues. I have just ordered it on eBay after many many days of comparing it to other branded sat navs. Though it has mix reviews but more positive than negative.

      I have this unit... I drive in California and drive a K T-680... I can't get it to keep a GPS signal to save my life... And now my company supplied Dēzl 500 won't hold a signal either... IDK if it's a Garmin problem or if somehow kenworth's frame somehow interferes with the GPS signal.

    u should not have to edit your route for a detour(if there is an incident) this is the purpose of the traffic function(when it works) also what I have found is if/when you do a detour it will USUALLY take you on roads/streets that are not meant for trucks, so be careful especially when dark, TRUST ME!!! it WILL make you mad and wanna throw it out the window at times..... good review

    I have both. The Garmin and rand McNally. Garmin is far more accurate and trustworthy to me. The rand McNally looses its bearing a lot. Thinks it’s on a side road. Some features are better. RailsToRoad does the TND 85 keep its location accurate? I’ve asked many people and no one says it does. The Garmin is spot on. That is why in my opinion the Garmin is better. I don’t need a gps that is recalculating as often as the rand McNally does.

    I have the 580 and a otr 700 ... Both are good but the otr700 is better and has a faster processor because it is newer. The 580 is the same as the 780 just smaller, otr700 was on sale at Amazon for 299 , the only difference besides speed I can tell between the 580 and the otr700 is the popular truck route feature which is cool when you get off the highway. If the price is similar go with the otr series now since it is 2022 .. Good review

    Avoid ANY Rand McNally GPS's (I had the Over Dryver 7).
    1) They are unreliable in navigation
    2) Post false restrictions on a TON of routes when route planning
    3) Most times the GPS will lose signal on wide open highways/roads and in many cases I had to solve that by turning the gps off then on again
    4) You can pluck the GPS off the magnet mount
    5) Not so sturdy and can damage it easy if the mount keeps failing
    P.S.: don't let the addition of Sirius XM rope you into buying the Rand McNally. Because if your housing mount breaks, you will no longer be able to connect to your XM radio feature.
    Heard the Garmin and TomTom's are the best GPS's to stick with.

      @@bigginztrucking4698 Awesome breakdown on the video, driver!
      I don't understand the people who are over hyping the RM brand (probably new owners) but my Rand McNally I had for close to two years, somehow. I had to hold the GPS to the mount with mini bungies and the worst is if you aren't paying attention the GPS freezes a lot. So 15 miles/50 miles/130 miles down the road and the screen is locked up, your turn-off is ahead... you're screwed. Never again will I buy Rand McNally ANYTHING.

      Thank you sir. The 785 is riddled with glitches, especially surrounding the camera software. Plus it’s a fixed camera so you would have to have your GPS mounted perfectly to get a decent shot. Ironically enough Garmin makes a fantastic dash cam (Garmin 55 or 65W) that seems to get the job done quite well. The 770 and 780 in my opinion is “ol faithful”.

      Hey Jack! Thanks for watching. A “hidden” feature in the software that nobody really uses is the “Trip Planner” app that you can find when you hit the “ Where to” on the Home Screen. You will find it listed somewhere around recents, saved, address etc. With that you can plan A to B points on specific trips and edit how you want that route to run. It takes some playing with to get used to it but I had an entire 5 day week set up including my favorite places to park and fuel when I ran my north east dedicated run a couple years ago. You can make the trips accordingly so all you have to do once you’ve done the work of programming it is select it from the list and drive on driver.

I have had an issue here and there with my 780 losing satellite signal but not enough for me to change it out. I really like how rugged the 780 is because if I ever need to carry it in a bag or something like that I don’t have to really treat it like a tablet. The new ones seem to be built softer in my opinion.

    Does your unit have voice command phone dialling? I bought a 780 in the UK when it came out and this feature, despite having been in the 770 (their previous 7in truck sat-nav), was mysteriously missing and enquiries to Garmin revealed that it had been removed intentionally. I sent it back and bought a 580 which still has this feature. I believe that it was somehow not compatible with their new Android operating system base which isn't on the 580. The Amazon listing for this unit still claims it has voice dialling though.

      I would say the 780. Performance is the same but depending on the location of your GPS it could be more difficult to see on the 5” model (580). I’d say the 7” (780) is the best way to go. However, there are some that say it takes up too much room compared to the 580. I disagree.

      There is a micro USB port on the side that seemingly can be used to charge it, when I plugged into it to test it to answer your question it did indicate that it was in fact charging. As far as inputing the route, Garmin makes it very easy, on the Home Screen select the “Where to” tab and then select address. It’s that easy.

    • @bigginztrucking4698
      @bigginztrucking4698  4 роки тому +1

      Very little in my opinion. Possibly some internal specs that I don’t bother with. But the main difference is the 780 has a magnetic base and the 770 has a regular ball joint style base. I love anything that will hold with a magnet so it was a no brainer for me. But, during training we used the 770 and it worked pretty much exactly as the 780. The 780 can also access weather and traffic if you are subscribed with the app and I don’t think the 770 can do that.

      @bigginztrucking4698  3 роки тому

      You are correct on all counts. That was a recommendation I got from long time Garmin users. Putting the true length seems to confuse the unit sometimes and it will send you around routes that you actually could have taken. Of course with the Garmin being one of many tools for route planning I have found this to be helpful along the way. However, I did not mention it in the video because results may vary.

      Plug your addresses into Google Earth. Zoom in on the address. Find the truck entrance. Place a pushpin in the truck entrance. Right click the pushpin and select properties from the context menu. Then input the GPS coordinates into your Garmin. Your Garmin will then route and guide you directly to that truck entrance. Personally, I never enter addresses. I always enter GPS coordinates as I just explained above because it is always 100 percent accurate. Good luck.
