  • Batman the Brave and the Bold becomes Joker the vile and the Villainous as the script is flipped. The Joker must team up with the Weeper (a classic Fawcett era villain) to defeat Batman who has launched a device that will end all crime. In a nod to the Joker's first solo series this episode focuses on the Clown Prince of Crime's quest to stop the Dark Knight's reign of order. Does this episode work? Just who is the Weeper? Is Batman truly the villain? We discuss here on Casually Comics!

The Fisherman that confused me the most was from the relatively recent (2021) event *"Future State"* in which he was part of the "evil Justice League" aka _The Justice Squad_ (as Aquaman's evil counterpart), when they faced of against the Suicide Squad led by Peacemaker.
[that was a few months before Gunn's "The Justice League" came out, so the Peacemaker craze hadn't reached its maximum potential yet]
Anyway, he was apparently the real Fisherman, but was possessed by a Xenoform parasite (previously disguising itself as his distinctive helmet, as seen in "Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis") that really messed with his mind & body.
*"Future State"* was a mixed bag, but i did enjoy their short Suicide Squad run, that only lasted 2 issues, buuuut was directly followed by the 15 issues long "Infinite Frontier's *War for Earth-3* " Suicide Squad run in 2022, so I tend to consider them as one and the same.

The concept of Batman being seen from another person's perspective as a menacing, scary, oppressive figure was a common staple of the Shadow series. The stories were often told from the perspective of one of his "agents" ( who were loyal but also intimidated by him) or by the villain or by a victim. Everyone saw the Shadow as this mysterious, unyielding, uncompromising force for brutal justice. He made everyone nervous.

Bulletman is an interesting character to me. Ever since I saw him in that JLA/JSA/Earth-S crossover (or maybe in the Shazam 40's to 70's volume), I wanted to know more about him. He's one of the few Fawcett superheroes (not connected to Captain Marvel) that isn't just an ordinary person (like Mr. Scarlet, Pinky, Spy Smasher, and Minuteman). And the fact that he has a sidekick (Bulletgirl) and even a pet (Bulletdog) only made him more interesting to me. Plus, he always looks like he's one of those heroes that only has the power to fly, but there's so much more going on with him.
Not only does the gravity helmet let him fly, it has magnetic powers that attract bullets to the helmet, so he doesn't have to worry about getting shot. And naturally, if he wants to fly into something, the helmet will protect him as he flies like a bullet to this target. But oddly, there's even more to the character. He drank a serum that enhanced his intelligence and strength. So, he technically has superhuman strength, but he doesn't like to show that off too often.
So, with all this going for him, I couldn't wait to read his Golden Age adventures... but man, are they boring (to me at least). YMMV. He fights a lot of ordinary crooks with only the occasional bit of weirdness. I've been reading a lot of Golden Age comics lately and a lot of them are hard to get through, but I expected more from Bulletman since he was published by Fawcett comics whose Marvel Family comics were so incredibly fun.

This is one of my favorite episodes of BTBATB. Most of the comedy lands really well, like the incongruity of the Joker deciding that since the Weeper was able to steal candy from a baby, that means he's ready for Batman, or the Joker hoping saying that the bat probe might not work, only to be caught 2 seconds later. The scene where Batman announces his plan to the criminals on live television is also hilarious on a meta-level because of how many times Joker has taunted Batman through the television, such as "Christmas With the Joker" or "The Laughing Fish" in BTAS.

Not only is Dr. Poison the bartender (which is amusing) but the bouncer is the bouncer.
Also, in the 2008 movie “the Dark Knight” the Joker is portrayed to the audience the same way Batman would appear to criminals in Gotham in that movie and the previous movie (Batman begins).
They don’t know where Batman came from, where or how he’s able to get all of his gadgets, how he learned how to fight so well, how he’s thwarting their plans and knows where and when they’re about to do crimes and such, etc..
But the audience is along with Batman for the ride and gets to see where and how he’s getting his info, combat training, gadgets plans to foil the villains plans, etc..
The Joker in that movie to the audience is like Batman, you don’t know where he came from but there are multiple theories and rumors, how he makes his plans is never shown, where and how he’s acquiring his weapons and explosives and such is never shown, how he managed to plant the bombs in all the places he’s planted bombs in isn’t shown, etc..
This episode is kinda like that. But from the Jokers perspective instead of Batman’s.

That was a great episode. It's amazing how easy it is to make Batman look like the bad guy with just a slight shift in perspective (especially when he's pulling shady surveillance stuff like this).
The Eye gizmo in this episode reminds me of the Flying-Eye in "The 1001 Inventions of Batman" (Batman #109)...not sure if it's a direct refence. It might also be a reference to the morally questionable cellphone tracking system that Batman used in Nolan's "The Dark Knight" a couple of years earlier.
Looking forward to any and all videos about obscure Batman villains! The Spinner is a favorite of mine -- that original story features one of the cleverest super-villain plots I've ever seen (no spoilers, for those who haven't read it).

Bulletman is a really deep cut and there was even another non-DC Bulletman in the Old Tall GI Joe line. Plus, he eventually gained a Bulletgirl - because 1940's.

Don’t know if it’s just me, but in addition to the machine seeming to be inspired by brother eye, it also gives me Sauron vibes with the “all seeing eye” that pinpoints your location to catch you as well as the architecture of the machine. Could just be me though 🤣

I would like a video on Bulletman with special mention of Living Bullet, a character from the 'Dial M for Monkey' segments of Dexter's Laboratory. While he does have the bullet aesthetic of Bulletman, Living Bullet was more of an amalgamation parody of Iron Man, Quicksilver, and Flash.

Can you do an episode on Bulletman/Bulletgirl? They seem like some interesting heroes.
It reminds me of your story on Golden Age Sandman and I would like for you to do a story on his girlfriend. I find it fascinating that she used to be a thief and was more active in the hero business than most love interests at the time.
