I shared a taxi with Marc Almond back in the 80s. Wardour street to Hammersmith Palais about 20 minutes if I remember correctly. When we got there Marc got out first there were 100s of fans.
Soft cell were fantastic, but having Mari wilson in this video makes the track so camp and sensational 👌 well done Marc Almond and The Queen of Nesden Soul
God i love this song! Brings back memories when i was a new romantic in love with an english girl, me being asian, was hard and difficult. I hop you `Sandra Marie Barnes` found love and happiness..xxx
Dave & Marc have been quite dismissive of this recording - 'pop fluff' or words to that effect but it remains a great piece of work. The marriage between Dave's electronics and Marc's soaring vocals is perfect. It's one of those songs whose endings could go on forever. I recommend the 12" for the beautiful intro and well, you simply get more of a great song.
So true. I could listen to the ending forever. There is a wonderful description of this video in Michael Bracewell’s book Souvenir, a recollection of early 80s London - presented as something seminal, true pop art, the blending of 60s and 80s and a very special moment in time. Came back to watch the video for this very reason. Mari Wilson is wonderful too!
Do you want me to Get down on my knees Beg you baby, please Cry a million tears Do you want me to Call you on the phone Beg you to come home Think of all the years When I once lived in paradise When the love light shone in your eyes Oh baby What can I do when I still love you What can I say when I still want you What can I do What can I say You'll never know this way Do you want me to Follow you around Everywhere in town Do you want a clown Why do you Treat me mean and cruel Breaking every rule Can I be your fool We can make this a happy home So come back where you belong Oh baby What can I do when I still love you What can I say when I still want you What can I do What can I say You'll never know this way Please forgive me, come back, and then We can fall in love Over and over and over and over again Oh baby What can I do when I still love you What can I say when I still want you Won't you come back Oh baby, what can I say I said, what can I do Oh baby, what can I say I said, won't you come back I said, won't you come back I said, what can I do I said, what can I say I said, won't you come back I said, won't you come back Won't you come back Oh baby, won't you come back Oh baby, what can I say I said, what, what, what... can I say Won't you come back Won't you come back Won't you Won't you come back What can I say What can I say What can I do What can I do What can I say What can I say Won't you come back Won't you come back What can I do, do, do, do What can I do What, what, what...
I used to have an incredible vhs of soft cell videis i got inWHSmith in a sale, and we watched it repeatedly at boarding school. Only the one gay man amonst us, but we all adored Marc.
I was far too Punk to even give this kind of vacuous fluff the time of day, when it was first released. But looking back on it, 40 years later, I have to admit, it's not quite as terrible as I first imagined.
Stephen Clarke from Loughborough and garry whiting from Leicester we are now ever so very true match gay partners forever together and we both all 80s music and same music together and proper stuff too very true now forever and we both brought at the same time period music
Yeah, word has it that Soft Cell hated doing this song, but the record company wanted a pop-ish tune to follow the mega-hit Tainted Love. Ashamed that Soft Cell didn't just roll w the punches and promote it. I think it's a fun song. But hey, they had integrity and followed up their hit album with a very dark, subversive LP, which was really good but I don't think the record co worked v hard to promote it much.
Was a great synth cover of Judy Streets marvelous Northern Soul track love both versions having been on the northern scene for over 40 years.
Probably my favourite group of the eighties
Soft Cell had some great tunes in the 80s! Very distinctive synth pop! Love it!

Brilliant! Did he talk to you?
Mari Wilson guesting on the video. Loved the remake of the Northern Soul Classic. Anyone watch The Proms Northern Soul night recently?
It was great
Soft cell were fantastic, but having Mari wilson in this video makes the track so camp and sensational 👌 well done Marc Almond and The Queen of Nesden Soul
This tune gives me shivers down my spine. So much nostalgia, damn., Love the B-side too So...
I absolutely love Marc Almond, just look at him, wouldn't you just cuddle him, he's so lush.
God i love this song! Brings back memories when i was a new romantic in love with an english girl, me being asian, was hard and difficult. I hop you `Sandra Marie Barnes` found love and happiness..xxx
Soft cell are such an underrated band
They only made like 2 or 3 decent songs?!

I'm surprised at that. It's a forgotten gem.

(01:41) That's Mari Wilson on the sofa. She had a couple of hits in '82/83: Just What I Always Wanted and Cry Me A River.
Michelle Collins out of East Enders and Corrie in this vid too
That's what she always wanted.
She was so fabulous - those were amazing times
A nonplussed Mari Wilson. Hilarious! :)

northern soul classic .
Great video with Mari Wilson.
One of the greatest Northern Soul covers.
@@kasarabian3274 Actually, Judy's northern soul version is a cover too.
Soft Cell always reminded of an Art House Caberet Act so a head of their time
been a northern soul person he has covered
some song brilliant and me i love
KTF
It will always be a classic and a great Judy street tribute
Her version was a cover as well. Melinda Marx originally sang this 3 years before she did, and H B Barnum wrote it. He owns the song.
What can i do when i still love this song
what a fantastic little pop song. such lovely lyrics
Cheery, especially the last chorus in the higher key.
The wanker ruined a Northern Soul classic
@@replicas11 he did his best haha.......keep the faith from a Wiganer.
I still prefer the original, a fellow Wiganner.

Do you want me to
Get down on my knees
Beg you baby, please
Cry a million tears
Do you want me to
Call you on the phone
Beg you to come home
Think of all the years
When I once lived in paradise
When the love light shone in your eyes
Oh baby
What can I do when I still love you
What can I say when I still want you
What can I do
What can I say
You'll never know this way
Do you want me to
Follow you around
Everywhere in town
Do you want a clown
Why do you
Treat me mean and cruel
Breaking every rule
Can I be your fool
We can make this a happy home
So come back where you belong
Oh baby
What can I do when I still love you
What can I say when I still want you
What can I do
What can I say
You'll never know this way
Please forgive me, come back, and then
We can fall in love
Over and over and over and over again
Oh baby
What can I do when I still love you
What can I say when I still want you
Won't you come back
Oh baby, what can I say
I said, what can I do
Oh baby, what can I say
I said, won't you come back
I said, won't you come back
I said, what can I do
I said, what can I say
I said, won't you come back
I said, won't you come back
Won't you come back
Oh baby, won't you come back
Oh baby, what can I say
I said, what, what, what... can I say
Won't you come back
Won't you come back
Won't you
Won't you come back
What can I say
What can I say
What can I do
What can I do
What can I say
What can I say
Won't you come back
Won't you come back
What can I do, do, do, do
What can I do
What, what, what...

Why is the sound quality that bad in this post? Great song and video anyway.
The Marilyn Monroe looks like she's having a ball 😄👍🏻
