This was my dad’s favourite song ever, always on in the car, on the radio, computer everywhere. It’s been a year and a half now since he passed and since listening to this song, but I’m so proud that he wanted this song to see him off, love you dad.
Every year on this day I listen to this song. It is the day my friend died from an overdose in 1997. This was the last song we heard together. The emotion that day will never be forgotten.

I spent my July 97. in England and in Manchester Virgin store I bought my first CD ever, Trainspotting soundtrack. I was 17. And now you ask me what I feel when I bump into this tune with 43 on my back? I feel like bursting into tears, that's what I feel. And when I try to explain to youngsters that 20s are the best yet shortest decade that will never return I see they just don't understand my language.
"The truth is that I'm a bad person. But, that's gonna change - I'm going to change. This is the last of that sort of thing. Now I'm cleaning up and I'm moving on, going straight and choosing life."
I’m going to jail for the first time. What advice do you give me. Had my friend tell me where a big guy eyed up his watch. Chris took it off, threw it on the ground stood on it. And said “there you have it”.

the best scene in T2 Trainspotting is when they are running on the streets, and Even McGergor(Renton) thinks back when they were teenagers, running exactly at the same part of the street, and then this song is being played...I literally got goosebumps at that scene...
Listening to this as I approach my 42 birthday tomorrow. My little brother overdosed on Sept 1, 37 years old, after 5 months of coming off of heroin and being clean. He thought he could handle fentanyl and he couldn’t. Please remember when you get clean - you can’t ever go back. Only forward.
Was at tribal gathering when CARL COX DROPPED THIS !!! and the whole place went MENTAL.... was like yesterday.... never forget that as long as im alive... EPIC !
"But Begbie, I couldn't give a shit about him. And Sick Boy, well, he'd have done the same to me if only he'd have thought of it first. And Spud, well, okay, I felt sorry for Spud -- he never hurt anybody."
If anybody watches trainspotting, the scene when begbie brings Renton down for a cig. This song kicks in as the smoke hits Rentons face. Brilliant film , direction n soundtrack. Say no more 👍
Why is it I cry every time I hear this? So many good memories of people, places and experiences...love it sooo much. Sounds like it was made yesterday.
I was at a festival in the uk last summer. We were right at the front for the previous set but were talking about leaving to get drinks soon when a 40-something-banker-type guy turns around and says in a gravelly voice “you’re not going to want to miss this one.” I had no idea how right he was until the first few chords of this song blast out into the crowd and we’re blinded by lazer beams. A tidal wave of memories hit me like a brick wall from when I was too young to be watching trainspotting and letting it envelop me and my life. It was a feeling that could not be replicated. Ever.
I'm in my 30's, hadn't watched this film since it came out in the 90's, I watched it again last night, what a fucking master piece! I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it for a while to give it a re-run, you won't regret it.
Brings me back to the 90's. Seattle to London and back a few times: cool girls, great music, and far too many drugs, but this was life for those of us drinking deeply in those days. This book and subsequent film managemed to capture that zeitgeist perfectly.
This is one of those tunes I can belt out of my speakers as loud as I can... fantastic. If you listen to all of the instruments it's absolute genius...and that drum beat at 1.38 sends shivers down me. Then the drum beat changes at 2.24 where there are about six or seven beats per second. Love it. Love and miss the 90s!
I can remember the time when I first heard that song in 1995. I was playing games on my pc (X-Wing, to be precise), and contrary to my habit to have the game sound on my stereo, I had tuned into some radio station instead. I can't remember why I did that, but it must've been a sign from the universe. Imagine this 14-years-old kiddie, playing some sim game with his joystick and listening to Born Slippy at around 11pm in the evening. It was a remarkable experience I'll never forget.
20 years ago today (it was father's day, mind you) my dad became no more. This song reminds me of a better time, watching great movies like this on the couch with my brother, mother, and of course him. Fuck I miss those times. Where the hell did 2 decades go? Blink of an eye. Miss you dad.
I cannot overstate just how awesome those last 2,5 minutes are, from when the strings fade in. The percussion is so wonderfully layered with all those little cymbals, hi-hats and claps. True classic techno jewel this track.
Underworld is my favourite Stand... in the entire series, full stop. It's one of those stands where you see it for a good chunk of time but it still feels like they barely even scratched the surface of everything that it's capable of.
Last year I watched Trainspotting 1 and 2 with my parents. I had never seen Trainspotting but they had both watched it back when it came out in the 90's, they were around 20 years old back then. A couple days after watching the first Trainspotting we went to watch T2 Trainspotting and as we watched it I realized that the movie was about aging and growing older. Knowing this while sitting there with my parents who were then in their late 40's, I don't know, I just get very emotional when I hear that melody at the start of this song.
Yep , I like your parents I’m am late 40s I Saw trainspotting when released as a young addict now 15 yrs clean so I to get emotional at the beginning of that track. Tar colin
the lyrics may not make sense but this song is absolutely beautiful. You can listen to it if you're sad, happy or absolutely bladdered. Will never ever get old.. thank you underworld for this masterpiece of a tune 🙌 ps. Choose Life always x
This is my tune to freedom. Walking away from the mess, the rot and chaos that my former life was. Heard this 10 years later and the feelings just came alive. Thank you ❤
Although I wasn’t born until 95, this song brings back nostalgia for me. My parents had me at the time this was filmed, split soon after and my mum passed away in 06. So I feel connected to their youth through this film and music. I never knew my dad until 2016 when I was 21 and a few months later we went to the cinema to watch Trainspotting as it is his favourite film (I’d never heard of it) and then a few days later T2 came out so we watched that as well. We haven’t spoken for a few years now sadly us being close was short lived but Trainspotting is now one of my favourite films and whenever I watch it I feel very emotional and nostalgic❤️

A child of the 90s and 2000s EDM scene and raves, I drenched myself in this stuff. Judge me all you want, but deep EDM is like classical music to me with a massive beat and meaning. My eye's looking like dinner plates (hmmm, guess why), deep philosophic and yet primal reaction to this insane music. I have never ever been in a group of people so gorgeous than those time with my EDM circle of friends some of whom were DJs and they were my dearest friends. Yeah ok, have a crack at me but you're never gonna take away from me those amazing moments, big name DJs, at least 16 mates on the town seeing the best DJs of the time and everyone is in such a great place. No violence, no crap, pure enjoyment with really smart music with a message and a shake your arse off attitude. Why not?
Thru all the comments on this vid ur's is the most special n heart warming one...bcuz I'm also a 90s n 2000s kid n edm, techno, house n dubstep was the only genre of music I really listened to.
as long as you dont mean the rubbish EDM crap like garrix & hardwell then im on your side haha 90s & possibly up to 2002-2003 was the best time ever for dance music until all hell broke lose & we had bieber fever

This track drives and there’s no bass! It’s a stripped back beast with pads that take you to another dimension. The vocals present a concept of a movie besides trainspotting. Absolutely class act, pure creativity here.
It’s not just a music it’s the whole life, your youth in 4 minutes. It’s not just your memories. It’s a masterpiece that makes you just happy wherever you are
I can clearly remember skipping class to buy beer for the very first time and sneak into a projection room to see Trainspotting, after we got drunk inside the school we went out and played basketball til the day turned to night. I felt like a small adult for the first time, the first time I actually choose life.
This song gives me such powerful flashbacks to the 90s. Just sad that no other decade I will see in my lifetime will even slightly compare to the 90s. I'm just glad I was there

I hate that I barely caught the extreme tail end of it. I went to my first rave in 2006 when I was 14 and I just had this feeling that it was an echo from a different time. When I was like 6 or 7 I had seen raves on TV and in movies, and heard stories from friends' older siblings and I was really looking forward to it. It was fun, but after the first one, the rest of the underground raves I went to got broken up by the cops within an hour or two. Sometimes they were there before people even got set up. I did get to experience the heyday of emo but that's not nearly as good as the 90s rave scene. There were bad vibes all around, lots of drama and abusers. I don't know if raves had the same problem but it wasn't remembered because the internet wasn't around, or if it was less of an issue because ravers were slightly older than emo kids or something.
@@hjibakkkihjibakkki6408 you're older than me. I missed out on goth too, especially pre-Columbine goth. Mall goth was played out by 2007. They're just trends though. The more important thing was that young people were spending more time online and playing video games. That and the 2008 recession closed a lot of meeting places, and then in the early 2010s those places were gentrified.
You are a genuine old-school electronica fan... you get into this stuff through Jean Michel Jarre and/or Kraftwerk? 😁 Solidarity my wrinkly raver brother! 👊

This song is such a pure adrenaline and I just want hit the dance floor and dance dance dance and forget all the rest, life is too short man let's just live and enjoy it while we can😊
Those first few notes hit my feels like a truck. Both good and bad memories flood my head as this song continues along the track it was set upon. This song just hits the right feels and it never gets old. The memories. The laughs. The pain. The love. The life I'm living and will continue to live.
Millennials, please don't get offended by people reminiscing and feeling nostalgic while listening to this. This movie captured the essence of a era and a generation. This was before social media and the directors understood that what they were filming, was timeless. This movie connects with so many people because it is about core relationships, and transitioning to adulthood. Life before... Facebook.

*CHOOSE LIFE* God I miss the 90s and being a teenager.. everything was so new and exciting. This song (and Trainspotting) bring me right back to those sweet and sorrowful days
I was a junkie back in the 90s and early 00's however 1 thing stuck in my mind whilst watching trainspotting, and that is choose life, so I did, I also shall never forget those immortal words from Francis begbies mouth when he said, no way would I poison myself with that shite!! Legendary words for Robert carlyle who played him, therefore I never ever did heroine, thank God almighty.
I would have to say that this movie single-handed prevented me from ever putting a needle into my arm. I did get addicted to prescription opiates, but that was a far cry from the hell on earth that would be heroin addiction. My heart goes out to anyone having to go through that, just know the only way out is through.

But let's face it, I ripped them off - my so called mates. But Begbie, I couldn't give a shit about him. And Sick Boy, well he'd done the same to me, if he'd only thought of it first. But, that's gonna change - I'm going to change. This is the last of that sort of thing. Now I'm cleaning up and I'm moving on, going straight and choosing life. I'm looking forward to it already. This song used to amp me up in my youth, but the sense of nostalgic melancholy that comes with it these days really hits home that I'm getting old. The wanton abandon of teenage years and early 20's now a distant memory, viewed only through rose tinted glasses.
@@Adultguj enjoy it. I'm 33 next month and spent too much of my 20's doing overtime. I skipped Ibiza in 2019 because of work, and obviously haven't been able to go since because of lockdown. It's a fleeting thing, but there have been moments I knew I was living the good days.

I’ll never forget my best friend’s wedding in the 1990s. He was marrying a girl I sorta kinda had a thing for in the ‘80s, and I was the driver of her limo. She asked me to put this song on to calm her nerves. So I cranked this one for as much as the limo stereo could take. It’s a moment I’ve never forgotten, and they’re still very happily married with three great kids. Still my best friends too
Garage in Glasgow...... Blue Monday.....Ian Smith.....80s and 90s were the best. I am green with envy of everyone who lived it in the UK. I was stuck here in the states.
A lot you youngsters have no idea how weird those days were. Everything was wild. You could buy a 3 bed house in London for just £100 000 or just squat in one. We thought Tony Blair was great and the ecstasy was pure. How I miss those days. Now people have their faces fixated on their phones wondering why they can't "connect" with others when the truth is they are surrounded by like minded people.
Jon your comment really hit me. I'm only 18 so I'm part of this new generation obsessed with technology. I was at a club last night and so many people just constantly taking photos like fkn hell what are you doing. Much less people just get lost in it and feels the vibe and connects with others. Best part about clubbing is speaking to new people spreading the vibe, no inhibitions just primal enjoyment. our obsession with technology takes us too far away from living in the immediate moment. X

the best scene in T2 Trainspotting is when they are running on the streets, and Even McGergor(Renton) thinks back when they were teenagers, running exactly at the same part of the street, and then this song is being played...I literally got goosebumps at that scene...

Ever.
Saw this live with my Dad in Detroit at movement 2023, so glad to be alive and off what almost consumed us. Was magic that night.

Jan 27th
That's why I decided to revisit the original, can't wait!
Saw Paul Van Dyk close a 3+ hour set with this at Guvernment in Toronto in Feb. 2001. Still the best set I've ever seen live.
This song feels like a punch to my gut. Something about it leaves me breathless. Makes me 21 again.
You know this is going back in the charts when T2 gets released.
The human race is so predictable.
And the same time.not...who would imagine someone you talk and smile everyday..,would kill them self after
Best thing that will be the charts for the last 17 years.

Why not?

No it will not. The mid/late 90s might as well have been 10 lifetimes ago. We're never going back.
@@RsRj-qd2cg uh our generation grew up with goth we literally have nothing to do with emo

Drive boy, dog boy
Dirty, numb angel boy
In the doorway, boy
She was a lipstick boy
She was a beautiful boy
And tears boy
And all in your innerspace, boy
You had
hand girls boy
and steel boy
You had chemicals, boy
I've grown so close to you, boy
And you just groan, boy
She said "comeover- comeover"
She smiled at you, boy
Drive boy, dog boy
Dirty, numb angel boy

Let your feelings slip, boy
But never your mask, boy
Random blonde bio, high density rhythm
Blonde boy, blonde country, blonde- high density
You are my drug, boy
You're real, boy
Speak to me and boy,
Dog, dirty, numb, cracking boy
You get wet, boy
Big- big time, boy
Acid bear boy
Babes and babes and babes and babes and babes
And remembering nothing, boy?
You like my tin horn boy? and get
Wet like an angel
Derail
You got a velvet mouth
You're so succulent and beautiful
Shimmering and dirty
Wonderful and hot times
On your telephone line
You've gotten everything
On your telephone
And in walked an angel
And look at me, your mom
Squatting, pissed in a tube-
hole at Tottenham Court Road
I just come out of the ship
Talking to the most

"Lager- lager- lager- lager"

I remember they said movie encouraged heroin use. I feel the opposite is more truthful!

This song used to amp me up in my youth, but the sense of nostalgic melancholy that comes with it these days really hits home that I'm getting old. The wanton abandon of teenage years and early 20's now a distant memory, viewed only through rose tinted glasses.
Well said
Makes me smile .. Makes me cry .. Turn It UP .. ♥️💔
I can relate. 28 right now, but soon I'll leave my twenties and with it the last bit of my youth.
@@squoblat very true. 35 myself. Rose colored glasses but we made the best of it, or did we? Cant be a tourist of my own past as Sick Boy said in T2!
must be one of the best 'soundtracks to a movie ever`..so Iconic!
Time flies was there now I choose life and its fukin ace
listening to this song after choosing life is so weird. makes me remember all the good memories and friends but also all the hurt and pain. it makes me think about my whole life in hindsight. i just hope my old mates were able live a better life and didnt keep going down the rabbit hole no where
This song reminds me of my fight to live life with optimism without falling again into a depressive state because I already went through that from my early childhood years, but I think I also will choose life. 😢
I highly recommend the movie SUNSHINE 2007. Underworld did the soundtracks. It's an existential movie
@ Thank you for the recommendation, I’ll watch it as well
Watched trainspotting 2 last night they done a great sequel to it .
Had a little tiny bit of this song in it to boy it takes you back to the good old days of fun and clubbing , gone but never forgotten
Thanks, Araki.
You're welcome
I knew I'd see at least one
@@cjc6645 The other videos of Underworld are infested of jojokes
Pucci
araki referencing a artist means that all there songs are infected lmao
One of the best and most powerful tracks of all time. ❤️🔥
28 years later in 2024 its still a f'ing banging tune
I’ll never forget my best friend’s wedding in the 1990s. He was marrying a girl I sorta kinda had a thing for in the ‘80s, and I was the driver of her limo.
She asked me to put this song on to calm her nerves. So I cranked this one for as much as the limo stereo could take. It’s a moment I’ve never forgotten, and they’re still very happily married with three great kids. Still my best friends too
What a great story. You sound a nice person.

All of a sudden I'm 19 again and it's 2:30 am in The Garage in Glasgow. Good times. Very long ago.
The ChaosEngine I do remember
Garage in Glasgow...... Blue Monday.....Ian Smith.....80s and 90s were the best. I am green with envy of everyone who lived it in the UK. I was stuck here in the states.
I'm 18 and I can confirm the teens of this decade still love this stuff
The ChaosEngine except you’re not
I loved the Attic! But none of my friends did, they were always in G2 so I’d go up for a wee while myself. Miss those days. LOVED the Garage.
So deeeeep
Jon your comment really hit me. I'm only 18 so I'm part of this new generation obsessed with technology. I was at a club last night and so many people just constantly taking photos like fkn hell what are you doing. Much less people just get lost in it and feels the vibe and connects with others. Best part about clubbing is speaking to new people spreading the vibe, no inhibitions just primal enjoyment. our obsession with technology takes us too far away from living in the immediate moment.

One of my pet peeves, something that really shites me is people on the phones seemingly all the time.
Aye. And I'm pumped for Trainspotting 2 to come out. So glad they decided to do it.
