The fact that this song is nearly 40 years old is frying my brain.
I bought it brand new, as a child.. and I feel so old. :P hope I will still dance to it, when i am 80.. (if I get to live that long) ..
Still timeless
Is there any song more ahead of its time than this?
I still shiver when I think about the fact that it was 1921 100 years ago
42 now 😮
This song was SO ahead of itS time!!!
Same thing. Fantastic video indeed.
Isn't this trance? 1981.
This is exactly what I was commenting with a friend. Sounds super Avant garde.
That sound is hypnotic
@manu ochenta the song is ahead of its time not the video
@@ajs41 Electro with a touch of acid
The fact that this song can still pack a dance floor anywhere in the world....40 years later!
Easily, one of the most important songs in pop history. What a carnival ride of raw emotion! This video is brilliant and should be placed in a museum collection at the MoMA if its not already. Thank you Marc, Dave, and Cindy!'
And, is that Stevo making a cameo in the video? So fun!
MOMA for MDMA
@@petems3283museums rock 🎉😊❤
The "Born slippy" of the 80s.
Only far better.
I used to blast this song in my car when I was 16. Oh so long ago..this song was way ahead for its time
16yo had you a driver licence ? or did you drive without like me ?😅
It's 2022, and if this song was released tomorrow, it would be seen as pushing at the edges. Soft Cell are somewhat special.
The moment when Cindy turns into Marc at the end of the rap is AMAZING! Also are they superimposing lines of coke over the Word Trade Center?
This song is all about the drug ecstacy not coke. They recorded their debut album in New York and were club hoping amongst the many gay clubs of the time when they were introduced to a woman who had the only supply of the new hit drug on the gay club scene. Medical grade MDMA (Mandy in the UK, Molly in the USA), still legal at the time, they got heavily into both the drug and the scene.
That's her rapping on this track and this is pretty much the first rave record...6 years before the acid house/warehouse rave scene would explode in the UK.
woooooo who else can feel the KRAFTWERK in this masterpiece???? !!!!!!
This feels more like a Pet Shop Boys song rather than Kraftwerk. Kraftwerk never had this much energy
It does remind me of Numbers.
I can feel the LSD they used to mix this album
Maybe something from trans Europe express as that was the only dancy beat type album they had. No its more like Giorgio moroders music for Donna summers I feel love.
This song has a very strange feeling, but I can't live without it
bought Non Stop in '82, and all their music has been a part of my life ever since... thank you guys!
I still love soft cell i'm 56 & they're still fabulous*
I first heard it in early 1983 on a Spanish radio station and I only had time to record an excerpt on a tape I still keep but I never knew the song name until yesterday night, almost 40 years later. Arguably their best song along with Frustration and Youth.
:) made me smile
Right on!!!!
I'm 27, had never seen this clip / music before and its scary how much I identified with it. The sound and footage.
As a lover of 80s synthpop this is by far their best song
Yeah but, Bedsitter, Say Hello Wave Goodbye, Sex Dwarf, Mug's Game, What... just sayin.
Such a tune! Can't help but adore Marc, he's adorably gorgeous with a naughtiness to him
That was music, That is music
THIS IS SOMETHING ELSE. SO INTENSE, COMPARED TO OTHER SONGS OF THEM. SO ENERGETIC SO VIBRANT. i needed this. i was looking for THIS kind of song thanks
OH YEAH!!
That's because of the fact that this song is made on ecstasy 😜
I freaking love this song! Love Cindy's typical rapping!
1981 ? Way ahead of its time, I hadn’t heard this version before.
This version was on their 1982 remix album Non-Stop Ecstatic Dancing.
Surely the earliest example of Techno? This version with the Cindy Ecstasy is by far the best!!
One of, donna summer I feel love 76 also
Synthpop!
The earliest example of Techno is Cybotron by Juan Atkins part of the Detroit 3 who invented Techno..
No, Kraftwerk foi pioneiro nisso, mas o soft não estava longe dos alemães, ao mesmo tempo que Depeche mode e New worder iniciavam seus passos na música eletrônica, em 81/82...

Finally this year lots of memorabilia available for us SC fans, spent a fortune this year 😛
As a lover of the 80s music listener, this is the best song! ❤
Bought that in 1982, was 15+ years old. Headphone, headphone. It's the reason why I need now hearing aids. Ok, I also blame Heaven 17, ABC and Public Enemy.
40+ years old and still amazing. One of my favourite tunes ever. Soft Cell have never ceased to be important to me. The soundtrack of my youth. Love that Stevo’s in this.......
One of the best songs of Marc Almonds genius
This is the perfect song to build your collection with, or build a museum 😉😜
Found out that nin actually just did a cover of memorabilia; so I decided to check the original out. This one is pretty good too!!
Just about my favourite song when I was out clubbing back in the day.
Played this on KFJC 89.7fm, Los Altos Hills, Cali when it came out (and Sex Dwarf).
Their "hit" was taboo, we left that for the commercial stations. Love the remix!
Bought the "Non Stop Ecstatic Dancing" cassette when it came out, because it had "Where did our love go", but was completely blown away by "Memorabilia" the first time I heard it, especially Cindys rap. This song cemented Soft Cell in my top 5 bands of all time. Will always cherish their contribution to the art.
This was AWESOME hearing live at darker waves !!
My fabulous discovery of when i was adolescent 🎄🌟💋💋💋🌙🇬🇧💗🌹
MINE TOO!!!(WOW)
Mine too, I mean now.
No wonder trent covered this
Because Marc and Trent are both really gay
Had only ever heard the Nine Inch Nails cover of this and it's something I listen to a lot. My first time hearing the original here and I love it. Just odd because I knew the song so damn well from another artist.
Same I hadn't even known it was a cover until I just read about it.
I guess its like the inverse of Hurt then?
@@Brokeninc There was a tradition of NIN doing covers on the B sides up until The Fragile
Sin: Get Down Make Love (Queen)
Broken EP track 98: Physical (Adam and the Ants), track 99 Suck (Pigface)
Closer: Memorabilia (Soft Cell)
Things falling apart: Metal (Gary Numan)
Happy explorations, Blu!
likewise. I think it was on the Closer single. I definitely prefer the Soft Cell version today
@@colinrussell2017Trent is credited as a composer of Suck. It was a collaboration with Pigface, not a NIN "cover".
Still sounds so fresh!!
Love the Cabaret Voltaire esq sounds in the back of the mix!!
industrial elements, very cool!
Wonderful Almond / Ball track
Something magical always happens when they write together . You can’t buy that 👍🏻❤️
...the first album I bought, with my own money.. age 8. I had one prior. To this date, after hearing a million dance and electronic songs, this one still does more for me than 99.999999% of the rest.. the others, are somehow equals.
I LOVE SOFT CELL, been in love for like 40 years!!

Work of art. 😘
Everything they do is!😍
Keychains and snowstorms 🖤
Rollercoaster clash of pure excess and brilliance.
Love it
The cat is really cute
Marc wasn't afraid this is what it is lobe it we've found ourselves through the account of music and art respectively
Classic Synthpop!
I remember my friend bringing home non stop erotic cabaret. I think that is what it was called from England. It was fantastic.
I used to love playing this just after dropping albeit the in 90s
Omg, I forgot how totally amazing this is
basically an unadulterated techno banger, still slaps
DJ Harvey playing this in LA to all the circuit queens . Nov 2021! Ballistic!
too ahead of its time
Love the cat 😊
just awesome !! Marc is such a great artist. Love you !
an obscure banger
I have never had you, had you, had you ❤️
I love it Tainted love of this music group I didn't know this song there it's really cool it was the future of house music. 🎶 🎧 💯 🇨🇵
If this song comes on and Your not At ls😊
Awesome... Love It...
Timeless
Ok help me out here. I owned this album back in 83, 82. It was on cassette. But my cassette had this song starting the album. Not Frustration. And my cassette said nothing about a video show. Or a special dance mix. But it was the best thing going back in the day. I loved that cassette. I have no clue whatever happened to it. I believe someone snagged it. Probably my ex, of the 80's. Still, have - the art of falling apart, and the next album after that. No one took those.
But I've been trying to find one like I had, anywhere.
But like here. When I pulled this up, it said it was the full album and yet it's one song. Granted it was the right version of the song, which this version is easily the best. Of the many versions, they seem to have here
But maybe I'm wrong about the title on the cassette. All I know is I'd really like to find this again
Thanks for listening. Today is July 12th, 2024 Friday.
Excellent
"Tow-how-howns that I pass through..." I always get a chuckle out of how Marc turns a single-syllable word into three here. 😁
12” extended version is a must listen
Reminder reminder.......
Perfect Soft Cell💯 eternal!!!!
awsome!!
I'm not a dancer, but man, this song could make me move
I wonder what happened to her
Here we go again...with passion.
this is like totally brilliant !! i have never understood why it wasn't released as a single in this version or the fact it didn't make it onto their first album along with a few other tracks like fun city total overload of songs and this cindy's rapping amazing ahead of its time for sure.
It's more like a spoken word poem but I feel ya.
@@boneappletea3858 thanks for the reply yeah you are right more spoken than hip hop or rap still cool all the same.
@@stevepettit2064 cool af
Probably because it wasn’t enough of a “pop” single.
@@RocStarr913 Maybe but some of their hits were not poppy compared to other artists and marc not your usual pin up pop star so i think this song would have made a great single.
Que vídeo excelente !
Um som totalmente hipnótico !

Die beste Version von dieser Nummer..toppt alles
I really felt I could relate to this tune, that was until I found out it is sung from the perspective of a serial killer !. Don't get me wrong, this is well up there for iconic 80's music . I love it
classic 😎👍
Fantásticos soft cell
The first techno song ever, from 1981.
Proto Acid house
@@alessandrodalbosco1408 It's interesting how this song is so much ignored by pop music historians.
@@ajs41 typically. Then becomes fashion. Soft cell was dark and some videos reminds me Nick Zedd's films. OK in 1981 there was fantastic albums too. I think this was very close to the Idiot of Iggy Pop. Decadence and romantic at the same time without electric guitars. And the saxophone trumpet in torch so n. y.
Fuck off historians
@@alessandrodalbosco1408 Sorry? I think history is important.
Wow this is incredible! I can't believe I hadn't heard this version before
That’s because it was set to the remix from the Non-Stop Ecstatic Dancing album. It was filmed as part of the Non-Stop Exotic Video Show video album that was released on home video formats. They likely felt using the remix would help promote the remix album as well as the original album.
It wason the actual album. I bought it in 1982 and still have it.
Ma jeunesse
He is really cute
BEAUTIFUL BABY
Please upload the original Tainted love Music Video from the 80s. I'd love to see it again 💖
Oh yes! Caligula, on the swing. I've got the VHS cassette, must do this
Holy SHIT that was good
A E S T H E T I C
I remember listening to this weird type of music back then
Got it can I send it to a few friends?

Doll, you still got it!❤
❤️🥰
Is any of that Marc Almond's 8mm footage?
This song sounds The best on Deezer I swear!
It sounds like Speak and Spell, the first Depeche Mode album... the Daniel Miller production is very clear in Memoriabilia
