🍜🍣Huge thanks to Tabelog for helping us shoot in so many spectacular locations! Discover Japan's top restaurants at: s.tabelog.com/en/?cid=inbound_promo_youtube_aij My god, this video should've been called "I ate 1,000,000 calories in a week". Still, you can't beat a fine meal in the company of good friends. Thanks to the amazing friends who joined us in this episode; Sharla, Connor, Pete, Natsuki, Alex and dare I say Ryotaro. But of the 12 restaurants which one do you want to try the most? Let us know down below!
Chris is always living the good life. Can't wait for your other wacky weekend soon with Connor. Hope you visit more areas in Western Japan to discover more underrated places with the others.
It's so weird seeing Connor actually happy eating something because he usually just complained. And I died when Chris asked Ryotaro to describe the taste and just answered "Yellow" 😂
This by far is my favorite type of abroad in Japan content, I absolutely love being able to get off work, sit down, relax and unwind to a long video before I hit the hay, absolutely fantastic video!
It is actually a good strategy to film during summer and to publish more in autumn/winter where people tend to be more inside. Depends on where his viewer come from of course.
This is legit better than most prime time TV content in the uk. The production values are through the roof and the fact that it's a whole hour is just crazy good.
Natsuki really lucked out with that chance encounter with Chris that night on the streets of Yamagata all those years ago. I recognize that his quirky personality is a major factor, but wow, could anyone predict that a random hairdresser in rural Honshu could ever become world famous?
By the same token, Chris really lucked out meeting Natsuki. Good friends can be hard to find, and without his friendship would Chris have achieved what he has?
@@euanmorse Chris mentioned in his Q&A that he was about to quit teaching and leave Japan due to depression caused by loneliness. Then he was approached by a stranger on the streets who wanted to talk about his passionate love for British Rock and Roll. So, Natsuki really is one of the biggest reasons AIJ exists today.
I really like the fact that the interviews with the chefs was included. It gives the whole video a nice mixture between documentary and less formal UA-cam restaurant visits.
I'm planning a trip (my second time) for next Spring and want to reserve a table at at least one high-end sushi place, and this video is making me STRONGLY consider Udatsu specifically.
@@AbroadinJapanHiya Chris. You said you don't like the word influencer. How about e-presenter? Like email. Includes all the positives without the negative connotations. This might not be the right place to say this, but I don't know how else to
The chefs and owners bowing before you introduce the restaurant and the dishes is a small touch, but it makes this video feel SO... cinematic. The details!
I came to Abroad in Japan for travel tips at first, but ended up staying for Chris, Connor, Ryotaro, Natsuki, and Pete. With Top Gear/Grand Tour in the rearview mirror, this is the only show I watch just to hang out w these lads.
Lmao totally! If they took over Top Gear it would so much better than what it became after, probably an unfair judgement to be fair just because I only watched one and then just couldn't... It all felt constructed to me compared to the chemistry between our original guys, they were Top Gear... That being said, for me Chris could even stand in alone and carry it, I'm a massive Chris fan, been watching him for probably almost 10 years, he could host burning down orphanages and I'd be like f*** yeah lmao
Pete’s reaction to the tonkatsu is priceless. As an Iowan, I hold his opinion of pork in high regard, and that visual bliss was literally exquisite. I appreciate so much that they take the sourcing/region/availability so seriously and present it to the customer! This episode has me drooling!
Abroad In Japan is probably one of the best channels on UA-cam in terms of TV like video production. Some people spend millions on content and don't even come close.
As someone who is incredibly unlikely to be able to visit Japan but loves the country, it is as always, a joy to live vicariously through your videos sir. Thank you ❤
Honestly, I didn’t even realize this video was an hour long until I started reading the comments (right when they went to eat sushi). That just shows you how good Chris is at creating entertaining long format content! Not to mention the top notch quality of his videos! Can‘t wait to hopefully try the food at at least one of these restaurants when I finally make it to Japan 🤞🏼
I've been using tabelog for the past 2 years on every trip and I can't recommend it enough. I got to eat in so many restos I never would've considered.
I came across your channel a few days ago as I'm travelling to Japan soon. The quality of your vidoes is so good that I've been binging your videos not just because they are about Japan persay, but because the humor, editing, and flow of your videos is some of the best I've ever seen in UA-cam. Looks like the best places being "3 star average" in Japan is a true thing! Definitely need to check these out next time I visit. Awesome recommendations Chris!
I love the way good Japanese restaurants specialise in just the one ingredient or technique and do it really well, rather than halfheartedly try to offer a wide range. I got a taste for zarusoba on my trips to Japan, it's something I hardly ever see in the UK. When I lived in Berlin my favourite restaurant was a fully authentic kushiage place, staffed by Japanese (their two other restaurants are in Japan) - absolutely fantastic food, much lighter than you'd think for fried food and not oily, just like tempura. I love decent tempura but so often in the west we get over-battered pieces that just aren't the same.
Some like to pair their wine and food to heighten the experience Mr Affable pairs his company to the food. Connor - Light, refined, juicy, filling Pete - Deep fried, tender loin, cabbage hair Natsuki - Smokey, meaty, go cook yourself No.4 - Eating alone, stewing in own juices Connor 2 - Thick noodle, big breast Sharla - International ingredients brought together in Japan Ryotaro - Exclusive, hidden, Pete 2 - Stamina, Fish in a snakes body Alex - Theatrical, simple elegance Sharla 2 - Crispy shell, soft centre No.11 - Conor 3 - Enjoy with eyes, highs and lows.
GOOD HEAVENSl Sir Chris Mr Affable Abroad in Japan, Sunday Times best seller, old mate of King Charles and the Emperor of Japan, and Daimyo of Ozu - is really spoiling us peasants recently! Another video just a few days after the previous, and an hour long one no less!
I just about completed this video in one sitting, pausing only to grab a coffee. Excellently crafted, mouth-watering dishes! Extra props to the editor Marcus , they were cooking alright!
this video is really well done, not only technically but also the way Chris found how to thread the story telling with each person making them coprotagonist in their one segments of the 12 (and someone even more than one)👍👏
Firstly, I love this episode. "Chris and friends of the channel eat amazing food" never fails to land for me as an episode. Secondly, it was great seeing you and Ryotaro meet up again. You two have such an amusing chemistry, especially back when he was lowkey trying to get you killed in strange travel stunts. And thirdly, I would 1000% watch an entire series of you and Ryotaro going across the nation, slowly making your way down the list of every yakitori place in order of rating. The chickens of Japan may come to see you as starving kaiju, but I think it would be absolutely worth it.
When I opened this I really thought this was going to be a compilation of Chris' favourite places from the last few years. But he wouldn't do us like that. Great content, nice relaxing video with all the best guests.
Absolutely keep doing the longer format for things. Many of us truly appreciate the amount of important detail it allows. You have a knack for pacing and flow; This didnt feel like an hour
I love these long-format 1-hours videos! I feel like it goes well with your type of content -- often, I'm left wanting for more with your more frequent shorter ones.
One of my favorite thing about Chris's videos is how nice the views and like Camera stuff is. I don't really know about cameras, but I always notice how beautiful everything is, and the camera angles and stuff and the scenery shots are so beautiful. I remember the first video I noticed it in and really thought about it, was maybe the one at the temple in the snow, I believe it was like, monks eating a certain kind of food and Chris tried it at a temple on a mountain and it was very snowy!
You know Chris, I must admit, your food video is one of my favourite content that you make. Although It may not have deep narrative like a documentary, it's still a comfort content for me. I always watch them fully, so I'm glad you made a 1 hour videos on foods alone :)
When it comes to Japan comfort food, gyusuuji nikomi is a must-try! 🍲✨ Tender beef tendons in savory broth are perfect for warming you up as we enter autumn and winter. A simple, satisfying hug for the soul! ❤
Thanks for one of the best videos highlighting the tastes of Japan. It is quite impressive watching the great care and precision of the chefs performing their dishes. Just outstanding!
Really excellent video, both very informative and enjoyable to watch. The different shots, image quality, and editing were truly a step above past uploads. Very much agree that Tabelog is a great resource that I had provided my uncle who recently moved to Tokyo as a pilot, meaning he understands zero Japanese and neither has the time to learn to explore much.

As much as I enjoyed this video, I will avoid watching this video on an empty stomach. I was very much salivating at each dish. 😂
with the pork place, and the pieces were on the metal mesh.. never have I ever seen a video where that's a thing. it shows they appreciate the temps and textures of what they're presenting so much, they won't allow it to over heat, or get soggy. as someone who loves pork, the idea of a specialized spot where you can try every variable.. fn amazing! I've never seen this with pork outside of US BBQ, and even still, it's not like that at all maybe my favorite of all Japanese restaurant bits, of any video I've watched over the years
The combination of typical abroad in japan humor and interaction with friends combined with the in depth interviews with the chefs/owners was a great mix.
Love this style of video! The interviews, to me, are what make the video. However, I can imagine it takes a lot of planning and communication to get the restaurants onboard. Gonna put this in the back pocket for the next time I visit! Thank you.
So I just went to the ramen place and had the ultimate beef special. It was amazin, I loved the charsiu and the roast beef but especially the simmered beef! Highly recommended. The owner asked if we visited because of your video. 😊 He was so friendly and welcoming!
My family discovered these great videos a few weeks ago as we began researching our trip to Japan next year. We now have a side mission to attempt and track down and get a selfie with Chris Broad. Thank you for the great videos, i have saved tablelog to my phone.
1 hour of good foods. I'm pausing it whenever I finished eating, and resuming it again when I eat my hyper delicious cup noodles with the same taste as what Chris has eaten.
There is simply nothing finer than witnessing benevolent britfarts indulging themselves with abandon for the span of an entire hour. In truth, such splendidly unrestrained entertainment might be the very pinnacle of delight this world has to offer! Thank you Chris.

Love this style of video! The interviews, to me, are what make the video. However, I can imagine it takes a lot of planning and communication to get the restaurants onboard. Gonna put this in the back pocket for the next time I visit! Thank you.
One of the best videos from Chris and friends ever. Thank you.
Watched the channel since 2013/14. Watched almost every single video since then. Today I ended up clicking subscribe.
So I just went to the ramen place and had the ultimate beef special. It was amazin, I loved the charsiu and the roast beef but especially the simmered beef! Highly recommended. The owner asked if we visited because of your video. 😊 He was so friendly and welcoming!
When you're happy, the chef has done his/her job correctly 6:30
Your and your wife’s interactions remind me a lot of my wife and I. Love seeing real people on UA-cam.
Not having curry on the list is a travesty, but otherwise a great list! I have some new dishes I need to try!
My family discovered these great videos a few weeks ago as we began researching our trip to Japan next year. We now have a side mission to attempt and track down and get a selfie with Chris Broad. Thank you for the great videos, i have saved tablelog to my phone.
I’m surprised Chris didn’t mention how much he loves lunchly in this video since I know that’s his absolute all time favourite lunch snack
I like the part when he said "Its Lunchlyn time!"
Yes and I'm so surprised that Logan Paul wasn't a guest since we all know how he admires him for his content! But at least he had Mr. Beast on :D
@@Blex_040 Sadly, no restaurants inside the forests and the Japanese staff don't take 10000-dollar-tips.
1 hour of good foods. I'm pausing it whenever I finished eating, and resuming it again when I eat my hyper delicious cup noodles with the same taste as what Chris has eaten.
Been following you for a while, love it!
This explains Chris's belly on the RV stream. All that amazing food. Another classic.
There is simply nothing finer than witnessing benevolent britfarts indulging themselves with abandon for the span of an entire hour. In truth, such splendidly unrestrained entertainment might be the very pinnacle of delight this world has to offer! Thank you Chris.
