My question for anyone who knows
Is fruit also bad for my health?
Can fructose from fruit cause diabetes
Other than fruit, I believe food I eat is healthy.
      Things I avoid
Alcohol, bread, noodles, pasta, candy, sugar, processed foods
I do eat plain Greek yogurt with no sugar
I eat eggs-boiled, canned sardines in olive oil, peanut butter made with just peanuts and salt
      Raw mushrooms, raw jalapeño peppers
When I go out to eat, I’ll get a steak or pork ribs cooked with no sauces
      Also sometimes I’ll eat avocados
I just hope fruit is not going to give me diabetes
Maybe I should get the blood test you recommend
      Thanks!

@@davidhughes4785 Hi David, you do need fruits in your diet. Just eat fruits in small amounts and with a low glycemic index. If people have diabetes already perhaps they would need to avoid fruits. I know of three doctos here on UA-cam that mention how important it is not to cut fruits out of your diet; if you want I can let you know thier names. Hope this helps.

I thank you all, Mike, Liza, and Vanessa
Looks like a diet that is mostly Keto, with only a small amount of relatively low sugar fruits and vegetables included
As one doctor here on UA-cam said, “The poison is in the dose”
The way I see his statement, is a small amount of fruit might be less harmful to health, a large amount of fruit or “dose” can be poisonous-leading to diabetes and heart disease.
Maybe I’m a fruit sugar junky
Maybe so, still I must watch my portion sizes of these types of foods!
      Thank you all!

It is astonishing how many doctors today treat their patients like a script or robot like. In my case, I recently had my blood work done with my former doctor. My cholesterol came out to be 215 and Ldl was 150. He immediately wanted to put me on a statin drug. He did not ask anything about my diet or what has been going on. I have been doing a high fat, high protein diet (ketovore). I then ask him about doing an Apo B lipoprotein test. He said he has never heard of this in his life. I will also assume he does not know about the triglyceride-hdl ratio either. That was enough for me to decide to switch to another doctor.

Some perspective may help. Physician practices are shaped by reality. The reality is, 95% of patients already have heard and read about the lifestyle factors contributing to high cholesterol, obesity, insulin resistance (i.e. diabetes risk), etc. Where could someone be raised in the USA for the past 35 years without hearing about it 1000 times before the age of 40, a strict Amish community? In remote Alaskan wilderness or bayous of Louisiana? The vast majority of people aren't going to change their dietary and nutritional practices. They are given the info by doctors and they just don't do it. So that leaves.....???

Thank you for your comment. Some people actually still love reading and actively look for long comments which are very often even more informative than the actual content that inspired the comment.
I actually believe that this is one of the most critical ways of discovering new information in our time: people are more lonely and socially disconnected from friends, family and community than ever before but we do mostly have access to the internet and social media in virtually 'real time', so this does still allow the exchange of belief systems, ideas, rumours and unfortunately propaganda to be dispersed.
Once upon a time, we had clan or village, or tribe meetings, or a town crier, a village square, an agora, a speak easy, or a simple wooden crate to stand upon and have the ability to share our thoughts with our local community but this has sadly virtually all but disappeared in modern society. Are we all better off for this? I don't think so. there is an epidemic of loneliness and a general lack of cohesion within communities.
What is the solution? We can all attempt to use social media systems to encourage others to share information, to share ideas and most importantly to create genuine face to face community groups to rebuild many healthy, happy people one at a time and then to connect these individuals with other genuine individuals.

I won't go to doctors in the USA anymore unless I am on deaths doorway.

You are correct Dr. Dhand, no one knew what I was talking about when I appeared at my GP clinic to discuss this blood test. I was told I didn't need it and couldn't seem to get my GP or anyone else to do a test that 1. They never heard of it. 2 Their lab didn't know of it. When I eventually did get to a hospital blood draw ( from sheer perseverance,) I had to wait over a week for the result because Quest Diagnostics was doing the lab work and the blood work had to be sent out from the hospital to their facility, wherever that was. They either lost the blood sample or never received it. That was experience with the HOMA-IR. All this took place in January and February 2023. LOVE. PEACE. God Bless

I have now had this the fasting insulin test done several times. The most recent was at a Quest labs location because my clinic does not do it on site. So I asked the quest tech why and was told that the blood sample for the insulin test has to be kept frozen or refrigerated until it gets to the lab doing the analysis (The Quest blood draw station I went to had to cold-pack the sample and send it to their lab hundreds of miles away for processing.) . Quest provides the special cool-pack kits if such a clinic wants to do the blood draw on site but they have to have a refrigerator or freezer to keep it cool until Quest picks the sample up.
As soon as I can arrange it, I will be confronting the medical director and my PCP regarding this because of their lack of knowledge on insulin resistance and testing and will strongly suggest they get the needed fridge/freezer so they can start providing competent healthcare. Once I learned of this test and was able to get it done, I was able to monitor my insulin resistance with my fasting insulin level dropping from 15 to as low as 2.6, well under the 6 suggested by Benjamin Bikman in his book "Why We Get Sick"

As well as removing processed food from diet, fasting or time-restricted eating can help improve insulin resistance. Note that you have to fix the diet first though, very difficult to fast when you are still eating junk food, because of the extreme hunger that causes. That was my experience anyway.

Please be careful about fasting. I know it's sold as a good thing to do but it can seriously aggravate your gallbladder and cause gallstones. 1 out of 3 women have gallstones up to three times the rate of men. Gallbladder issues can eventually lead to liver and pancreatic problems, it can cause night sweats, stomach upsets, fatigue, bloating, referred pain, vomiting and reflux Having your gallbladder removed puts you on a permanent low fat, little and often diet which then effects the absorption of some vitamins notably vit D. Please stay healthy and make wise choices 🙏

      @LTPottenger Рік тому +6

Very true, fasting gave me amazing results when my blood pressure was uncontrollable on three medicines! Some of the many benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fibrosis/scarring is reversed over time.
      Fasting increases nitric oxide release.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.
Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers, but some patients may need continued acid reducation medication while fasting.
Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' that is not supposed to be there.
Reflexes and short term memory are increased.
Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release!
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles as much as 1/3 of all immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire immune system.
Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer.
Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting.
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast, though if the amount is tiny you will go back into ketosis very quickly. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS.
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No, except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose.
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, which destroys them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer.
Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
In fact, the biochemical regulator of BDNF production is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

My doctor had not heard of a HOMA-IR when I asked her, but she did agree to the fasting insulin and fasting glucose test. I then did the calculation on my own. This was about a year after going whole food ketogenic along with some intermittent daily fasting.
A couple of years later I asked her what kind of tests she runs when she suspects one of her patients may be insulin resistant. She said probably HbA1c, maybe fasting glucose. I suggested she should maybe consider fasting insulin along with the fasting glucose as it will indicate heading towards insulin resistance and diabetes years or maybe even decades earlier. She looked at me and I could tell a light turned on in her brain and she said, of course, with the fasting glucose you are only seeing half of the equation. I was very proud of her at that moment. I told her to look into the Kraft Test as well, although I have a feeling its not available here in Canada.

    • @vnevala
      @vnevala Рік тому +3

The Kraft test, or 4-hour glucose tolerance w/insulin also drawn each time, is probably "available" but you might have to pay on your own. Doctors are trained to serve the $$ system these days, not the patients. They balk at ordering anything outside the system protocol only because of that training, but are likely to say okay as long as you assure them you'll self-pay for it.

    • @sebastienbolduc5654
      @sebastienbolduc5654 Рік тому +5

Canadian here. Here in Canada we no longer practice preventative medicine. Our system is so overrun that they cannot afford or have time for it. So what do they do as a reaction, they rewrite the medical books. They did the same with the pandemic, remember? 😂Annual checkups, aka preventative healthcare, are no longer in existence in Canada. That's the recommendation of the health ministry btw! The truth is because the system is overrun. We now have a Sick-care system. You see the doctor when you get sick, not before. So is it all about making $$$? Not for us! We pay taxes like an SOB but our healthcare services have massively declined. Have our taxes been declining? Nope, eventually they'll be going higher!
I like Suneel btw, but be careful and take what he says with a grain of salt. He is generalizing metabolic health. He refuses to mention nor acknowledge the genetic factors of it. For example, there are more than 2 types of diabetes. We generalize them as type 1 and 2 but it's more complex. You may have a healthy lifestyle but if you have a genetic predisposition for it you are at risk no matter what you do. If other members of your family had it, it's important that you are routinely tested for it annually. Other forms of diabetes are MODY, LADA, etc. It's not all caused by lifestyle and food. I know that there are a lot of internet gurus, even within medicine, who like to sell the, "Diet trend will solve all our problems." Next we'll be hearing that diet will cure amputees'. 😂 Like I said, he's generalizing. Don't throw away what he is saying either btw because he does give good advice, but... It's like an auto mechanic telling you that routine oil changes will prevent engine problems. It's true, but only to an extent. It's a partial truth but not the whole truth.
As for GPs, most only have an entry level med school education in it. Yes, believe it or not. Here in Canada GPs are not education in sleep disorders in medical school too btw. I know, I have a neurological disease called narcolepsy. Every GP I see, even if they know about the disease which is caused by an autoimmune response, know nothing about the med science behind it. And in some cases they have never heard of the disease either. You have to drill it into your head that a GP is exactly that, general. In other words, they're not specialist. They have "just" a general education in medicine. Don't expect much from them, especially the ones we presently have here in Canada. Like present day auto mechanics who only change auto parts, they don't know how to fix the parts or know how those parts function. A lot of healthcare professionals nowadays don't know how to stay in their lane of expertise.

It's sad but true that we live in a clown world, and poison food and 'medicine' is the most lethal part of it. Thankfully, some fasting can help undo much of the damage. The many benefits of occasional extended fasting and lowering dietary carbs:
Your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies in a 72h fast, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps with autoimmune disease, cancers and cytokine storm.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion growths pathogens and plaques by macrophages and other immune cells. This will remove spikes quicker, whether natural or unnatural in origin!
Fasting quickly lowers blood pressure levels.
Clots and plaques are removed over time due to accelerated phagocytosis.
Fasting reduces cortisol over time and improves your circadian rhythm.
Fibrosis aka scarring is reversed over time, including in the heart, lungs and clots.
When insulin is high, vit D stays locked in the blood cells but fasting quickly lowers it. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy.
Fasting restores NAD+ and increases nitric oxide release to open blood vessels.
Reflexes and short term memory are increased.
Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release!.
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered when fasting, reducing inflammation and allowing the immune bodies to move freely through the body.
T cells and T reg cells are vital in fighting cancer, autoimmune disease and infections. With age, the thymus stops making as many of them but fasting releases stem cells, which then can become new T cells. It also releases growth hormone, which regenerates the thymus itself!
Fasting increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors and increases average telomere length in stem cell pools.
Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures.
What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast but most teas and herbs are OK. Supplements and meds often break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting.
Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building.
Fasting activates autophagy (literally self eating), which causes cells to recycle damaged proteins and foreign matter such as viruses.
Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body.
Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue!
The obese will lose loose skin while fasting, but the frail will have increased growth hormone release, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness.
Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility for some women.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitochondrial DNA. Good mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention!
24h of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half! This reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function.
Over time fasting normalizes stomach acid levels and during the fast acid levels go down to allow for the healing of ulcers.
Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system, just like the effect of CBD oil
Your brain prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal measure to glucose. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids.
Fasting increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood. This stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, which can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with.
Fasting stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer.
A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. They also help with dementia and many other issues even if you take them while not fasting!
Glycine and trimethylglycine can also be useful supplements while fasting that won't break ketosis and have many benefits.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors that excrete insulin or certain rare forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all or only with doctor supervision. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis and done under doctor supervision. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast with a low carb meal.

The whole focus of monitoring and treatment was around glucose measurement as the holy grail for diabetes. Talk about missing the root cause🤪 Sure it's an important indicator but insulin levels also a major indicator. Physiology lessons were equally off the mark by reinforcing blood glucose but never really highlighting the importance of insulin levels! Hence all the problems today and the explosion of diabetes type 2.......because we have a 'pill to fix this', carry on with your bad eating habits and choices, we'll make another pill to fix any other problems that materialize. Great money maker for the food and pharma industry.

@@jodyjackson5475 Chiropractor - not a doctor of medicine! I'm sorry to have to say that, because many delusional people believe the mumbo jumbo of "chiropractic" has some validity. Not that I believe medical practitioners are the full answer either - that's what this video is about. Not to say that Ekberg does not strike a few chords but he is not a "doctor" (Dr.).🙂

Question please, will a fasting insulin number not also highlight the same warning signs ? Thanks.

My dad was a Type 2 Diabetic, and as I’m getting older I decided to purchase a blood-glucose meter to monitor my own glucose level.
I downloaded a monitor brand’s coupon and headed to my local pharmacy, who treated me very kindly and sympathetically….until they found out I was NOT diabetic, and therefore would not be offloading hundreds of dollars into their business on a regular basis. This scenario was repeated multiple times until I found a pharmacist who would discuss the different meters with me.
On another note, I recently saw an article stating the new ceiling for insulin resistance had been raised to 11! (Where I live, normal BG is around 4.3-5, 7 is the warning shot over the bow, and 11 is heading into deep water, 14 is high.) I feel it’s an indicator of how many people are turning insulin resistant, for them to raise the “shot over the bow” to 11.
Thanks for informing us about this blood test. Makes me wish I had a good doctor that would listen to my request to get it done. 🤷‍♀️

That's kind of like what the women's fashion industry calls "vanity sizing.". It is where they cut and make everything larger at each given size so that you feel better wearing a smaller number size. So a size 6 person might wear a size 2 in that vanity sized brand

Just had an insulin resistance panel done this morning. Can’t recall the initials attached to it, but my doctor orders this about twice a year because I am a type 1 diabetic. Well controlled, with 5.2 A1C, but still get all the associated testing due to diagnostic code(s) attached to the diabetes. My doctor is functional. Also have the Cleveland Clinic heart panel done twice yearly - really comprehensive and according to the number of vials of blood taken, it should be.
I think functional medicine doctors are more on top of preventative testing. Interesting point here - one of my total cholesterol tests came back at 205, atypical for me, and my doctor goes into this ‘talk’ and I hold my hand up as if to stop talking and he smiles. Told him I didn’t want to hear it, my results were far from ever considering a statin drug, and I also do my own research on all of this. Basically, as a doctor who takes Medicare payments, he is obliged to give this talk. I personally find this manipulative and disingenuous coming from insurance companies. Really really wish I wasn’t in the system!!!!

After 14 years of T2D not one of many doctors ordered it. I found out about the test and had my doctor order it. Had just gone on keto and my test results were so good I dropped ALL meds. Numbers already exploded. When I was a teen noone in my high school was fat. Now more than half are overweight.

Definitely similar to Washington state, maybe someone in Oregon has images as well. The clouds are often malformed. Notice pure white larger jets flying.

I fixed my insulin resistance by using the Ketogenic Diet at the recommendation of my very good physician. I lost 75 pounds in about a year (5 pounds more than me goal) just from changing my diet and everything is better. (just suggesting ...)
If you like to read The Ketogenic Bible is the best resource I found. It provides all the science and history behind the diet. As far as I can tell, the Keto Diet is the only fully scientifically researched diet out there.
If you like videos check out KenBerryMD - he has an entire course on his channel.
Might not work for everyone but if you have not tried it, please check it out.
I threw out or gave away away everything in my cupboard which had any sugar or carbs in it. Everything. I mean .... Everything.
Once in a while I falter but the inflammation and feeling of being poisoned from any kind of carb or sugar or processed food is a strong reminder to get back on track.
I hope I have not been presumptuous - just sharing what worked for me.
Best of luck and best wishes in embarking on a new life. Cheers!

Recently found your platform. Love the contrarian thinking. As someone who has "mistrusts the medical system" in the chart of one of my doctors it's hard to find a doctor open to alternatives. I spend time reading learned studies on various medical issues and it is amusing to me how many doctors bristle when you ask them a question from their own medical literature. Keep up the good work. I'd guess you feel like the lone voice sometimes but it is encouraging to know that there is someone for whom standards of practice are not the Bible.
