These are the groups that want war with China. China has become intolerable to these groups that only a war to humiliate or even annihilate China is necessary. These western groups want China and other perceived enemy countries to "know their place" and to become "obedient" and "subservient"

Physicist lady is so insightful. She speaks truth when she highlighted the farcical nature of technonationalism. Everything we use on a daily basis is built of components and knowledge from around the globe. Scientists are out to make people come together while politicians and religious leaders do the opposite. I think humanity can be better off if being led by scientists.

@@stefanw6665 Mengele is an outlier, so too are Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Check out UA-cam videos enough, compare the speeches done by scientists vs that of politicians and religious leaders, you will find that the former always emphasize humanity and discoveries while the latter always about divisive us vs them rhetoric. Mengele is a scientist in service of politics. Most scientists would rather focus on discovery of new knowledge and keep a distance from politics. But times are changing, more and more scientists are using their skills in logic and analysis to contribute to better political discourse.

The cost will be paid by the US. Because by restricting its own tech companies to do business with China, it gives all the incentives for China to innovate and develop its own. For example, since the US ban on Huawei, the company has become world's number 1 phone seller and SMIC(Chinese semiconductor foundry) got the largest client possible so now it will have the money necessary to catch up with the TSMC's node advantage in the coming years. China also start producing its own Sunway TaihuLight microprocessors for their supercomputers after the Obama ban on Intel to supply the Chinese supercomputers. China also finished its BeiDou's Navigation Satellite System, started building its own Tiangong Space Station since the US banned it from participating in the ISS, produced a new, homemade third-generation nuclear reactor technology etc. etc. etc. The list is basically endless. The more pressure the US puts on China's tech development, the stronger, more agile and innovative China's homegrown tech is becoming.

If there is not a defined anti-China geopolitical message, media orgs like Canada's CBC are not interested. Geopolitical propaganda has now usurped legitimate journalism on any international topic. I seek to achieve some sort of balance by watching CGTN & BBC (both being "state broadcasters") but this CNA series is serious and balanced on its own. Excellent.

The ShenZhen feature part of the video is amazing enough already. Often times we hear Silicon Valley is no longer what it used to be, corrupted and profit driven. Not the worst part, the worst is that people are rushing to develop the next big app. Which is why we're seeing more inventors flocking to SZ instead as it supplies the demand for physical parts.

The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210-209 BCE and whose purpose was to protect the emperor in his afterlife.
The figures, dating from approximately the late third century BCE,[1] were discovered in 1974 by local farmers in Lintong District, Xi'an, People's Republic of China, Shaanxi province. The figures vary in height according to their roles, with the tallest being the generals. The figures include warriors, chariots and horses. Estimates from 2007 were that the three pits containing the Terracotta Army held more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which remained buried in the pits nearby Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.[2] Other terracotta non-military figures were found in other pits, including officials, acrobats, strongmen and musicians.

Yes, I know stuff like React Native exists, but that's created exactly to deal with the "have to develop twice" issue. I still remember when Apple natively restricts its UI styling so cross-platform apps have a completely different look on iOS vs Android. Yes, having two sets of standards is bad for efficiency, but we're already living in that reality to some extent.

I really like the fact that CNA is focusing most of its emphasis on the financial and economic aspects of U.S./China realtions rather than harping on military, political, and/or ideological comparisons. After all, it is economics that are foundational to all aspects of geopolitical affairs if you think about it.
Moreover, this documentary has done a fantastic job of maintaining a nuanced view instead of leveraging on side or the other. It keeps matters objective, which is becoming increasingly rare in all of media today.

The difference is simple, because unlike Microsoft and Apple, Google/Facebook refused to abide by the Chinese local law regarding censorship and data storage. You can say whatever you like about whether you agree with Chinese laws or not, but do not act like those companies are specifically targeted. You come to China. You play by Chinese laws. The law is the same to all foreign companies unlike the Huawei case which is a total political move without any founded evidence.

"So whether it's the Chinese government or the US government, or other governments in Europe and this and that.
They all adopt a very similar techno-nationalistic rhetoric in saying that science is a tool of national greatness and we want talent recruitment to boost our national prestige and prosperity, blah blah blah,
The important question that we need to ask is not how many scientists are in the US, how many scientists are in China, because that is still an attempt of drawing a border around a piece of knowledge and claiming it as being in ownership of a state.
I think what the coronavirus pandemic should be teaching us is that nations and human bodies are all porous entities.
So no country can enclave itself in a bubble and keeps its citizens safe.
We really need to be able to stop clinging to these old ideas of citizenship and creed, using these concepts of scarcity to justify our bigotry, to really be able to see and think about community beyond the confines of a state.
We inhabit the same planet, we share the same cosmological history and we are bound by the same fundamental laws of the universe.
And our fates are connected on the surface of this planet that is shifting because of climate change.
And if we do not have that kind of radical transformation, with regards to how we organise our society, we are literally running out of time."
Cheng Yang Yang - Particle Physicist
So much truth spoken by a scientist who views the current situation of our world from a scientific lens, not influenced by her nationality, but as a citizen of the Earth.
Drawn up borders, nationalistic ownership, or a show of might & strength, etc, it is just a superficial farce for superpowers in wanting to assert dominance over one another. And who suffers? The respective country's citizens and the other citizens of the Earth.
